How’s everyone doing with toddlers/ kids already? Son not back to preschool until mid sept and I’m knackered. We are still out everyday but in feeling like an old lady who creeks. Have anaemia too so guess that doesn’t help!

SamK93 · 25/08/2020 12:31

@1990shopefulftm totally agree with what you said about daily mail they love taking things out of context. They've done a lot of that during covid. They love their ridiculous stories, next week it will say drinking coffee helps deliver babies quicker 😂 The comments made me laugh, one woman did say well all we did in the 60s/70s was drink coffee and smoke and we bought up a brilliant generation not a snow flake one.

@KitKatKit I'm okay, I have been really down about things the last few days. I've had no motivation to do anything or speak to anybody. There's just been so much going on, I'm thankful for my kids though otherwise I'd find it very hard to get out of bed in the mornings.

@DressingGown87 I hope your scan went well today and your mind has been put at ease about movements x

SamK93 · 25/08/2020 12:34

@60sPony I totally understand you! Mine have been home since March and are back next week. It's actually my sons first year at school as he was in a private nursery before this and he's starting reception, I never thought he'd have to experience school like this though with so many rules and restrictions that will be put into place. My iron and calcium levels are really low too and it doesn't help when you have children to run after and so many errands to run. Stay strong x

I just want to say thank you to all you ladies on this thread, wouldn't be able to get where I am now without you all!

1990shopefulftm · 25/08/2020 12:42

@krissy12 I've got my 31-week appointment tomorrow and if they bring it up I just want to be politely assertive and say I've made my decision. I can go into the reasons if absolutely necessary to get them to stop, I'm hoping it doesn't come to that as I'd hate to come across as rude to them.

You make the decision that you feel is best for you and your family, don't let her pressure you either way if you aren't sure yet.

@SamK93 Yeah, it ll be have a couple of cans of coke and your labour will be over in half an hour. Sorry that you're feeling down.

60sPony · 25/08/2020 14:12

@SamK93 Sorry your feeling a bit low. Think this lull before the school goes back with all this rain has got a lot of people feeling blah. Not helped by being pregnant and having some of the other things you’ve been going through going on.

roarfeckingroarr · 25/08/2020 14:34

@KitKatKit haha an oracle because of my own lack of planning and insight into my cycle that I had literally zero idea of when I would be due Grinbut I'll sit here and rub my huge belly like a Buddha and take that as a compliment. I'm doing well thank you after a bit of an emotional couple of weeks. I'm having Braxton Hicks regularly and DP is a bit concerned that they're real but I'm not yet. We have our last antenatal class this evening! How about you, how are you feeling?

roarfeckingroarr · 25/08/2020 14:36

Do you guys have any scans to come? My last scan was at 20 weeks with none on the horizon - standard at this hospital - but some women in my antenatal group have another around 30+ weeks.

SamK93 · 25/08/2020 14:47

@roarfeckingroarr the standard scans on the NHS are the 12 week dating scan and 20 week anomaly scan if it's just a normal low risk pregnancy. Any other scans are usually if a pregnancy is high risk, or growth scans etc or any other complications in pregnancy.

roarfeckingroarr · 25/08/2020 14:54

Aha that makes sense, thanks

LadyB90 · 25/08/2020 16:25

@roarfeckingroarr
I think it may depend on area as I'm in Oxfordshire and here they do a routine scan at 36 weeks. But my mum friends from other areas didn't have this so not sure why they do it here as routine. Apparently it's to check the baby's position before labour.

SJR86 · 25/08/2020 16:45

I have a growth scan tomorrow and will have another one at 36weeks.

We start our online NCT class tonight, I'm 32 weeks and it's suddenly starting to feel very real/close!! 16 working days left!

No discussion of how I'm planning to feed the baby with the midwife yet. The health visitor has booked to come and see us in a couple of weeks though.

DressingGown87 · 25/08/2020 17:24

My scan was fine. She is engaged and just sat waiting 🙈 blood dipped again but not to a critical level.

@roarfeckingroarr there is a scan pathway from 28weeks if your high risk. Think standard pregnancies are 12/20 only. Ooo you secretly hoping for the real thing?

@1990shopefulftm not sure which appointment, my MW went through it at 28weeks, but if was a pointless conversation “do you want to BF?” “No” “that’s fine you can’t anyway due to your meds”. My HV appointment is this Thursday, so assume she discusses it too. Don’t worry about formula feeding, hopefully they just accept your response.

@SamK93 sorry to hear your still feeling low, hopefully you start feeling better soon. Has the increase on iron tablets helped?

Daily mail just likes attracting shares with stupid stories! I wouldn’t survive without my morning coffee.

This weather is horrific!

OP posts:
1990shopefulftm · 25/08/2020 18:32

@DressingGown87 I haven't heard from a HV yet but as it ll just be a phone appointment I haven't bothered chasing them on it.
My reasons not to BF include health reasons however since it's to do with being dyspraxic that I haven't mentioned to them previously, I m just really hoping they take no as a no and don't push me on it.

krissy12 · 25/08/2020 19:21

@DressingGown87 glad your scan was ok

I have a scan next week to check placenta position as it was a bit low at my 20 week scan. does anyone know if they check the baby aswell at this scan or just the placenta ?

DressingGown87 · 25/08/2020 20:50

@krissy12 on my placenta scans they’ve checked her too and give me a picture / showed me on the screen. So hopefully they will check baby out for you too.

@1990shopefulftm hopefully they won’t push you, and you don’t have to justify your decision.

OP posts:
WaveStreet · 25/08/2020 22:33

@roarfeckingroarr our trust also do a scan at 36 weeks, to check position I think.

Had a stressful couple of weeks and a silly trip to a&e (all non-baby related thankfully), think i just need to start taking things a little bit easier from here on.

How is everyone getting on with names? I think we are there with both first name and middle name now - hope he comes out looking like his name as we don't have any backup options!

DressingGown87 · 25/08/2020 22:49

@WaveStreet aww hope all is ok, and you manage to rest and take it easy over the next couple of weeks.

I’ve had a first and middle name from quite early. I would have struggled with a boys name more. Like you though hoping she suits her name! My sisters, sister in law is due to give birth and I know the name I have picked is on her short list. So holding my breath that she doesn’t use it / or it’s a boy. As I don’t think I could give my nieces a cousin with the same name!

GhostWorld · 26/08/2020 09:22

@1990shopefulftm I really hope they don't push you on it, I'm going to attempt to breastfeed but I'm not going to put too much pressure on it and when I've spoken to the midwives about it they've seemed really relaxed, but perhaps that's because I've said I'll BF! I think its awful if they pressure you!

We've got a first and middle name, out of interest are you using the name for your bumps? Or just in general life like "When name arrives we will.." etc? I really want to get some back up names but DP is pretty settled on those, I'm worried we'll look at him and realise he definitely is NOT that name ha.

TMI apologies but I am so windy at the moment, I had an awful nights sleep with trapped wind. I'm one of those that doesn't really do it in front of my partner but with us both working from home hes heard some horrible noises Blush

Applesandlemons · 26/08/2020 09:25

@1990shopefulftm The Health Visitor is the main person who has asked me about my feeding plans and she did go on a very long ramble about breastfeeding. I am planning to breastfeed if I can (cost saving!) but for me it’s not the be all and end all. It drives me crazy how much pressure they seem to put on to make the “right choice.” They need to listen to women more.

@roarfeckingroarr I’ve had scans at 28 weeks and now one approaching at 32 weeks due to my thyroid. Just to reassure you - you’re not missing much. These are a lot shorter it’s just a measurement scan so they look at the placenta and briefly measure the baby. With the deceasing space in there there isn’t as much to see! I do think 20 weeks - 40 weeks is a long time though, I think they should just pop a routine one in for everyone. My boy is feet first so seriously hoping he flips around soon but I have a feeling he may be a stubborn one already.

1990shopefulftm · 26/08/2020 09:38

@GhostWorld DH has been reassuring and said he won't let them lecture me just after birth on it and that he ll grab a bottle and feed baby before they have a chance to say anything to us if it comes to it.
Yes, I use his name when he kicks me or when we talk about him generally, we don't have a back up name option.

@Applesandlemons I haven't heard from a health visitor yet so I haven't rung them to chase them up as I d rather avoid them coming into my house and making me feel bad about my feeding choice although I believe it's just phone appointments at the moment.
I was FF but my sister was BF, there's a big age difference between us so I can remember the pressure my mum put herself under to do it for so long and I wished I could give my sister a bottle to give her a break but she wasn't able to get her to take expressed milk or that a health professional would have said to her that they could see how difficult it was her not having a break at all for months and that it was okay to stop or combination feed her.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 26/08/2020 09:49

I still haven't heard from a consultant to discuss my options regarding birth. I was referred at 12 weeks but radio silence so far!

Background is that I had a fast labour with my first which resulted in me getting to 10cm at home without any painrelief, pushing in the car on the way to the hospital. During delivery, I tore and had a haemorrage which required an injection, pessary and then bimanual compression of the uterus (that, my friends, in laymens terms means punching it (no lie) until it contracts). Normally something that is carried out in theatre. Lucky Me.

Because of all the above, and I'm yet to hear anything from the consultant, I'm going to request an elective section today at my midwife appointment. I'm weirdly a bit nervous but I think given the reasons above and the fact I've been referred, they should give me the okay for this. i'm incredibly anxious about giving birth naturally again so a section seems like a good choice for me (both mentally and phsically!)

With regards to breastfeeding, I BF my first for about 6 weeks and then introduced a bottle. I put myself through hell with BFing. It was so hard and I was quite sore towards week 5/6 and I should really have given a bottle sooner. I will live and learn this time around and do what's best for me, not only baby. Don't give yourselves a hard time over feeding and remember 'fed is best.

1990shopefulftm · 26/08/2020 10:01

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt sounds like the right decision for you given the circumstances last time, it's awful that you still haven't heard from a consultant after this long.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 26/08/2020 10:30

@1990shopefulftm they keep telling me they're busy (aren't they always?) but anyway, hopefully I'll get to talk to someone soon about it!

Mc3209 · 26/08/2020 10:33

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt Perhaps they do birth option discussions a bit later in the process and that's why you haven't heard from them yet? I haven't had the birth process conversation nor feeding conversation yet. Bring it up at your appointment and see what they say.

Does anyone know how to 'unbookmark' posts on here? I've got sausage fingers, poked few buttons I did not intend to poke and now stuck with bookmarked messages..

1990shopefulftm · 26/08/2020 10:48

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt i think some trusts run all elective section requests by a consultant so perhaps speaking to your midwife will push them to call you.
