Hey @Sussexbysea it was exactly the dates I thought so that's good 😊. Last pregnancy I got scanned at 7w4 and saw a HB before I MC a few days later so I was really trying to wait until later so odds were more in my favour, but anxiety got the best of me so this weekend, so called up yesterday to move my appt forward 🙈

Sussexbysea · 02/08/2020 16:25

@SmileyT that’s brilliant. So many people go in and are a week or so earlier than expected. Last time I was 2 weeks later!!

@Kw35

Hi all!

I hope I’m ok to join the convo :) I’m 9 wks + 1 and it’s my first pregnancy. Had brown spotting for a week now and I’ve been referred to the Early Pregnancy Unit. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Feeling super anxious!

Hi @Kw35, congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Spotting can be quite common in early pregnancy and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong, but always good to get checked out by EPU. Also, I’ve known ladies who have experienced heavier bleeding and their babies were fine. It’s understandable that you are anxious but try to keep calm and hopefully the EPU can give you some reassurance. Do you have an appointment with them soon and have they offered you a scan? xxx

Kw35 · 02/08/2020 17:14

Thanks for your kind words. They will call me tomorrow to arrange an appointment. The blood has turned pinker now so I’m worried, but trying to stay calm....nothing I can do after all 😕

Mrs1989 · 02/08/2020 17:38

@Kw35 that’s good and hopefully they will offer you a scan as you are certainly far enough along for that.

Its really hard that it is a case of waiting but hold onto the fact that it is common and there are often good outcomes xxx

Clara9 · 02/08/2020 19:19

@Kw35 hope you’re ok. Good you’re being referred and hope you get some answers soon.

Oldermum80 · 02/08/2020 19:29

If I wasn’t already anxious enough after two miscarriages, I’ve just read that you shouldn’t take multivitamins. I’ve been having them for months as I’m a vegetarian and thought at least I’d be getting everything I need but turns out vitamin a is dangerous. Something else for me to stress over.

aureliacecilia · 02/08/2020 19:56

@Oldermum80 I'm taking supermarket own brand pregnancy vitamins which don't have any Vitamin A in them. What type have you been taking? I don't think there's any need to pay out for Pregnacare ones - the generic supermarket, pregnancy-specific ones are fine. There's no point in worrying about what's happened in the past as you can't change it; the baby has been so tiny and so protected that hopefully it's nothing to worry about. I suspect the advice to avoid Vitamin A supplements comes from a very cautious place. I'm very sorry for your losses too.

Oldermum80 · 02/08/2020 20:02

@aureliacecilia I’ve got Asda own brand but I knew nothing about vitamin A and just happened to come across it and checked my own which contain 100% of the daily allowance. Things change so often and my children are 18 and 15 so I’m a long time out of practice.
I just thought given my diet, it would be better if I took a supplement. I’ll have to get a specific one and hope everything is ok. Thank you for replying.

aureliacecilia · 02/08/2020 20:07

Can you speak to your midwife about it if you're worried @Oldermum80? The pregnancy multivitamins are good as they contain folic acid too so no need to take a separate tablet. I'm likely to forget if I've got more than one to worry about! I know what you mean about things changing - my son is only coming up to four but I'm sure lots will have changed since he was born!

Porcupette · 02/08/2020 20:14

Fingers crossed for you @Kw35

@Oldermum80 a quick google search seems to suggest that the WHO recommend you stick to below 10000 micrograms a day, and the usual RDA is 900 micrograms. You still need some vitamin a (lack of vitamin a is a leading cause of blindness in some parts of the world) you just aren’t supposed to have an excess of it. As food sources are things like pate which obviously you aren’t eating as a vegetarian so hopefully you’re still under the recommended limits. I’d stop taking them just in case but hope that might reassure you a tiny bit!

How’s everyone doing today? I’m 7+0 today (going from an early ultrasound) or 9+0 going from LMP (can you tell the whole dating thing confuses me?!) And the nausea is hitting me hard. Just had a big bag of onion ring crisps for dinner Blush - not the healthiest but I’m feeling so much better for managing some food and it’s all I fancied!

Oldermum80 · 02/08/2020 20:21

Thank you @Porcupette

Dreamcatcher007 · 02/08/2020 21:40

For those of you who had an early scan at EPU, did they do your blood test at the same time? Otherwise your first blood test is at the same time as your 12-week dating scan, correct?

Maggi85 · 02/08/2020 22:45

@Dreamcatcher007 they didn’t do my bloods at my early scan at EPU - I had my bloods taken as part of my midwife booking appointment - if they are doing this remote in your area then it’ll probably be part of your dating scan xx

Dreamcatcher007 · 02/08/2020 22:53

Thanks Maggi85! Yes my midwife appointment will be remote, so I was wondering if I need to request a blood test from my GP in the meantime. I’ve been taking Pregnacare, but I’ve just been feeling so tired and so dizzy every time I stand up that I’m wondering if might be low on iron or vitamin D or whatever else needs checking... 🤷‍♀️

Babafarmer · 02/08/2020 23:06

@Dreamcatcher007 I've got my booking appointment on Wednesday at 8+ 3 and they are talking my bloods after the phone consultation. A lot of people on here are saying that they are getting theirs done at 12 week scan. So I think it depends which trust you are in.

@Sussexbysea I haven't got my dating scan yet but I presume it'll be around 12 weeks. I have a private scan booked for 9+6 as I would like my husband with me. In my area they still can't come to Nhs scans so I'd rather know at 10 weeks everything is ok or not with him than wait to 12 weeks and be on my own. I know things can change but from that point there is hopefully less chance xx

Dreamcatcher007 · 02/08/2020 23:21

Thanks @Babafarmer!

Sussexbysea · 03/08/2020 06:42

@Babafarmer I thought from 1st August all partners can come to the 12 week scan? This could well be just my trust though.

In regards to bloods @Dreamcatcher007 bloods taken at your booking in appointment are to check your levels and check for diabetes.

The bloods taken at dating scan are to check for the various syndromes x

SmileyT · 03/08/2020 08:03

@Dreamcatcher007 in my trust they book in the bloods for a few days after the booking appt, i'd definitely speak to your Dr as they may offer bloods earlier for you. Also have you tried working out how much iron you get in your diet? Are you eating loads of leafy greens and red meat (or lentils and beans if veggie) to try and help naturally with increasing iron levels and might give you some more energy. I've booked in another scan for 9w6 as still no partners allowed at our dating scans either ☹️

aureliacecilia · 03/08/2020 08:08

In my area partners can attend scans at the moment. The booking appointment is done over the phone and I believe they take blood and do all the other tests as part of the 12 week scan appointment to limit the number of times you need to go to a healthcare setting. I've sent my booking form off over the weekend so I'm waiting for a midwife to contact me to make an appointment. I'm not booking any private scans as I don't think I could cope with the uncertainty of my dates being out. I'm taking the "burying my head in the sand" approach to pregnancy!

Babafarmer · 03/08/2020 08:10

@Sussexbysea no it's each individual trusts decision. I'm a nurse and work within mine. They have issued a statement saying that despite neighbouring trusts relaxing their policies, they are continuing to have no
Patient visitors within the hospital including partners to appointments and scans xx

c24680 · 03/08/2020 09:08

Last time I had bloods taken a week or so before the scan and straight after the scan.

I'm 9 weeks today, feeling okay, just tired, nausea hasn't retuned, don't know if I should be thankful or not!

One of my 'mum friends' has just announced she's due in January 2021, I'm so excited for her and us as we will be on mat leave together again if all goes well fingers crossed!

bumblingalonghappily · 03/08/2020 09:19

Hi @Kw35 I went to the EPU last Monday for pink spotting at 5+6. I was measuring further behind than I should have been so they couldn't see a fetal pole yet, just the yolk sac- luckily I had already booked in for a private scan today at lunchtime so I'll hopefully see a little fetal pole today, and the EPU is rescanning next next Monday. The spotting is scary but I've been reassured by so many people that it can be normal- I still very much empathise with your worry though!

Have they given you any idea of when your appointment might be?

KO2018 · 03/08/2020 09:20

Morning Ladies - hope we are all doing well.

I am really suffering with my nausea. Its going on all day and waking me in the night too, and seems to be getting worse each day. I can’t contemplate going in to work as I’m just crawling from bed to bathroom.

Starting to panic a little! Is this normal for most people? I’ve only been sick once but the nausea has been so agonising I almost wish I would throw up! The only thing that helps is eating every hour - even munching crackers in the night now Confused

NewMumToBe2021 · 03/08/2020 09:35

The GP has put me on Promethazine for my nausea. Like you it’s not actually going to be sick it’s the huge waves of debilitating nausea.
I’m also not able to go to the toilet so that’s making me feel even more unwell.
I really didn’t realise it could feed this bad.
Here’s hoping we soldier through it and the second trimester is a breeze for us ones that suffer now 🙏 x
