Thanks ladies. I'm just going to ignore it, I'd much rather have to deal with a shirty midwife than risk the baby being unwell!

@BecLJ that's awful! I can't believe they've left it so long - to the point where you might need a transfusion! Did they give a reason for it not being brought up? I've always been told if there's something up with my bloods, I'll get a call the following day.

LostinAusten2 · 14/08/2020 15:04

@Treacle81 - just sending you best wishes, must be so stressful, hope you’re doing okay 💐

@Buzz22 - I’ve also heard lots of examples of the mw measurements and the ultrasound being inaccurate, have fingers crossed for your growth scan.

@otterbaby - 100% agree with the folk above, there advice is v v v clear that we should go in if movements reduce, so you’re definitely in the right and sorry you got a grump mw

And just to second that TFIF - what a flaming week!

MrsD1990 · 14/08/2020 22:23

@otterbaby you did the right thing, shame on that midwife making you feel bad!

@beclj annoying they told you about the iron so late!! Really unhelpful of them!

I've just had another NCT session. They're so long! But I enjoyed that one a lot more and definitely felt like I learned more than in the previous session. Also I got asked to make a towel baby too 😂😂 mine looks so creepy! Was hilarious me and husband trying to make it - took us about half an hour using a 5 min YouTube tutorial!!

blankiesandunicorns · 14/08/2020 23:06

@otterbaby you are not only doing what's best for your baby and your piece of mind but also going by guidelines, you've done the right thing!

How many people have a name? We still don't and can't only agree on one we both like. I feel like we should have a few to choose from!

HerondaleDucks · 14/08/2020 23:31

@otterbaby I think you did the right thing. Ignore the grumpy midwife. Glad baby is OK!

@Treacle81 I hope you're ok! @Buzz22 I hope the growth scan goes OK. Hope you don't worry too much over the weekend. Lots of R and R in order I think.

@blankiesandunicorns
Oh we are dead set on a name. Have been for a long time, since 20 weeks I think. Our boy is going to be Ennis Simon Rex. I know 2 middle names is a bit pretentious but I really like the name Rex and Simon is my DH recently passed brother's name so it needed to be a middle name for sure.

blankiesandunicorns · 15/08/2020 08:04

@HerondaleDucks you're so good having a name and sticking with it. We are having a girl and both like Maeve but no where near agreed on a middle name yet and there's others I love that he doesn't like!

Buzz22 · 15/08/2020 08:31

@otterbaby You are doing exactly as they advise. I have been in twice for reduced movements and they always say they would rather see you than you ignore it.
I think you probably had a grumpy midwife or caught her on an off day. Sorry you were made to feel crappy though. Its not fair. Main thing is baby is fine.

@blankiesandunicorns we have a name! Unless she comes out and it really doesnt suit her....in which case we have no back up name! We are unsure of a middle name as we both tend to have family names as middle names. So it's just figuring out the right one!
I think we are in the minority that found boys names much easier. We had loads that we liked but we are expecting a girl which has made it a lot harder for us!

Quiffy · 15/08/2020 09:10

@Buzz22 hope you’re feeling okay, your scan will show everything s okay ❤️

@otterbaby it’s so annoying when you get lots of midwives telling you that you must come in for reduced movements as it’s so important and then you get attitude like that. You did the right thing, the person is taking a bad day out on you which is horrible.

@BecLJ that’s awful, can’t believe they didn’t check . Hopefully you can get levels up without needing transfusion

@blankiesandunicorns full name chosen here, we were going to have a list but one has stuck and can’t imagine anything else now. You might need to wait and see how you feel when she comes out. Maeve is lovely!

@HerondaleDucks love the name too!

@Treacle81 hope you’re okay ❤️

BettyBotter1 · 15/08/2020 09:11

@HerondaleDucks ah that's so exciting you have you're name!! Lovely sentiment with your DH's brother. We're going with 2 middle names too, which I also would avoid as can seem pretentious, but we also have good reasons for both names so we thought let's just have them both 🤷‍♀️
Anyone know anything about group b strep? My what to expect when you're expecting app (american) tells me it's an important routine test at about 36 weeks but the nhs don't test for it?

Treaclepie19 · 15/08/2020 09:11

We have a name 😊 I'm such a planner I needed to sort it early on.
I'm really counting down to her arrival now. I've woken up in such a lot of pain this morning.

OP posts:
Treaclepie19 · 15/08/2020 09:12

@BettyBotter1 yeah the nhs doesn't test for it. You can get private tests from what I hear.

OP posts:
otterbaby · 15/08/2020 09:20

@BettyBotter1 I asked my midwife about it and she said that if I remind her at 36 weeks, she'll do a quick test for it...so it might be worth just mentioning it and seeing if they'll do it for you!

Love the names so far! Ennis and Maeve are adorable. We have a name but also have a backup in case it doesn't suit her. We're not buying anything personalised yet either just in case we change our minds when she's here!

Buzz22 · 15/08/2020 09:29

@BettyBotter1 it isnt routinely tested for in the UK unless you had it in a previous pregnancy.
My friend got a home test that you send off. From what she told me it's a bit umm...invasive...a vaginal swab and another up the bum!
This is the link ahe sent me for the home testing kit

Spark27 · 15/08/2020 09:41

Morning. We've got a name picked too. Had it picked from pretty early on so were pleased when we found out she was definitely a girl! Found it harder to pick a name second time as you want names that go, but aren't too similar to the other childs. Haven't told anyone, and we dont really say it to each other incase we let it slip (or DD does).
FB tells me 3yrs ago I was 32w pregnant, now I'm almost 34w. In 3yrs time I plan on being drunk!

Treaclepie19 · 15/08/2020 09:54

@Spark27 I had a similar one. My Facebook told me 5 years ago I was 35 weeks pregnant and time hoping said 2 years ago I was about 6 weeks pregnant.

Last pregnancy for us! Being drunk in 3 years sounds good 😂

@blankiesandunicorns we have a name. If we were having a girl Maeve was our number one, we loved it! Similarly to @Buzz22 we only have one for our baby boy but are waiting to see if it suits him. Not really sure what else we would choose though if we did change our mind. @HerondaleDucks we are thinking of having two middle names too, because the first name is quite short and the family name we want as a middle name is too, so we may also include one we like just because we can!! I don't think it matters as nobody uses them regularly.

@BettyBotter1 I have read about group b strep and was tempted to get a private test done but then I read it can develop over a really short amount of time so even if I had a test say 36 weeks that was negative by the time baby is born in could have changed so I'm not sure now.

@BecLJ I hope they can improve your iron levels asap. That's so frustrating that they didnt act earlier.

Amazingly I slept through the whole night without needing to pee and then woke up for a bit and went back to sleep from 9-11.30am. You would think i would be full of energy to get jobs done now, nope!

Treacle81 · 15/08/2020 13:49

Hi girls, thanks for all the love! just been such a stressful time since yest morning. Had to get tested for Covid but just got results back, negative which I wasn't suprised at. Breathing better but just told to rest so no plans this wknd, I'm back home though which is great. Those names chosen are beautiful, we have a few but think will prob wait till he's born and see what he suits most. Baby measuring what should be for 32 weeks and heartbeat was fine, so all good with little guy xx

HerondaleDucks · 15/08/2020 17:24

I relate to this.

MrsK89 · 15/08/2020 18:20

@Treacle81 ahh good I'm glad. Have a nice rest x

Treaclepie19 · 15/08/2020 18:41

Glad all is okay @Treacle81

@HerondaleDucks totally!

OP posts:
BettyBotter1 · 15/08/2020 20:24

@HerondaleDucks 🤣🤣🤣 ah so much! Especially today, I feel wrecked. Think baby's growing again and I overdid it with the decorating yesterday. @treacle81 hope you can have a good rest, glad all is ok
Thanks all for the info on strep b, I will ask my MW when I next see her and take it from there.

MrsD1990 · 15/08/2020 20:39

@BettyBotter1 I had the test on the NHS - came back negative but like others have said it could come back anytime before birth (I've had it before, years ago) so they're still probably going to give me antibiotics in labour.

Guys I am shattered! We've had so much zoom NCT this week. Had it twice in the work week and then roughly 5 hours today and 2 hours tomorrow! We walked to the pub today once NCT finished and had dinner there just to try to enjoy the weekend. Found today's mammoth NCT class sooo useful though and I learned loads that I didn't know - just wanted to mention that since I was a bit of a Debbie downer about the first session.

HerondaleDucks · 15/08/2020 20:41

Best take it easy @BettyBotter1 I've been watching my dh and neighbour decorate for me today. I highly recommend it!

Also @BntTowers I found this sugar free biscuits by Gullon. My mum is diabetic and she got me some cookies. She said she gets them from home bargains, but you can get them on amazon as well. They are not as good as normal biscuits but I think they will work for our remaining 7 weeks! I had 4 with a cuppa today and it was almost as good as a proper biscuit.

LexiM · 15/08/2020 21:23

@Treacle81 glad baby is ok and hope you're having a restful weekend.

@MrsD1990 glad you found the NCT classes helpful, I can imagine 5 hours would be overwhelming. I would find it hard to sit still that long and pay attention, I'm so bad now!

@BettyBotter1 it's so hard not to overdo it with decorating isn't it. I've still got some to do and just keep putting it off. @HerondaleDucks definitely has the right idea!

I managed to get a baby bjorn bouncer for £35 off Facebook market place today. It's in really good condition and I could never find one on ebay near me. Any on ebay that offered postage were going for £80-£100 for decent quality one, they really seem to keep their value. I really wanted to find a cheaper alternative to the bouncer but everyone seems to rave about them so really happy to get one for less.

My husband did a surprise order to Mama Shack, I love their patterns. He ordered a changing mat which we had agreed we needed to get but then he also got a blanket and splash mat, they weren't on our to get list but look great! I'm just happy hes interested in picking some things.

I feel like in terms of items we are pretty ready now except for the odd thing like a baby bath, however we still have lots to do in terms of sorting the house out, admin etc. All the things I no longer have the energy for and should have done earlier! I guess some will get done and others maybe wont before baby gets here. I have the urge to get the house in shape but still not quite nesting as I dont have the motivation to actually do it...haha so lazy!!
