I spoke to the midwife about the partners being present thing a while ago don't know if it will help anyone else.. but at the hospital
I'm going to she said they won't admit you until your 4cm anyway and partners are allowed in from 4cm so you won't be doing it alone, obviously induction is different.. having been induced before I'll hang out and try to avoid that!
Also very happy the rules have changed and partners are now allowed to stay on the unit for 24 hours afterwards providing masks are worn outside of your room.
Fingers crossed that the rules keep relaxing Grin

Quiffy · 14/08/2020 09:40

Mine is still no partners until active labour I believe, they have to stay outside of the hospital. Induction seems really rubbish, you go alone and one visitor for 30 minutes a day until active. What's the point in that? The 30 minute visit time is for after birth too so hoping to get out asap if possible.

Happy Friday everyone, cannot wait to get finished work and have a rest. We have to clear the nursery/home office entirely tomorrow ready for getting decorated on Monday. Excited for it to be done but stressed about the process wah.

MrsD1990 · 14/08/2020 09:47

Our hospital's current rules are partners are allowed from active labour and then a few hours after birth. Unfortunately no visitors post-birth so if I need to stay overnight me and baby will be alone 😞 I almost changed hospitals when I found out but I've decided to stay because I feel safe there and it's familiar. Hopefully they'll change the rules by the time I give birth or I won't need to stay overnight. If I do have to stay overnight alone I've spoken to a few women now who had the same experience during the pandemic and they've really reassured me that it's totally fine and you're so in love/in awe of your new baby and it lets your husband rest up and prepare everything for when you're home. So it's really shitty for my husband if this does happen but he has said we should stick with our hospital too, since I feel safe there and that's what's best for labour. Had to give it a lot of thought though!!

BntTowers · 14/08/2020 09:50

I think at mine it's still not until active labour at 4cm. I'm trying to get my head round possibly being in there by myself for a while if I do get induced (better this way than being distrught about it if it actually happens as it's a possibility) then it's an hour's stay after birth and two hours of visit every day after. I don't think they've stated if they are able to stay when being induced but I would hope it might be the same 2 hour limit as post birth visits. The doctor already said that they will need to monitor baby's blood sugar for 24 hours after birth so thinking I'll be in for at least a day after.

@Quiffy that's exciting, I hope it all goes well. I've got approval from manager for early mat leave and holidays, just need to wait for hr now! I feel a bit better knowing that a month today will be my last working day and there's only 18 of them left between now and then!

@HerondaleDucks how are your blood sugar's going, mine are coming out really high at times I'm trying not to worry until I find out what I can tolerate and not. I guess it's just trial and error for a while.

Treaclepie19 · 14/08/2020 09:52

You will honestly be fine @MrsD1990.
My hospital don't let partners stay after 9pm anyway so when I had ds1 I was by myself and not even with a baby because he was in NICU. You'll be so focussed on getting some rest or looking after baby.

Is anyone else a little nervous about things reopening? I was doing OK but now soft plays are reopening I'm panicking that my ds will be going back to school a month before my due date. I'm so nervous about if he gets ill or we do and how that will affect labour.

HerondaleDucks · 14/08/2020 10:00

@BntTowers they seem OK... I think. I mean I've been trying to ice out the bulk of my carbs. I was high yesterday morning because I had an oats so simple porridge sachet and it was flavoured so high in sugar and I didn't think about it.

I'm sort of finding it a bit like calorie counting and it's making me all paranoid about what I eat all the time. So I'm finding that stressful.

The readings are so tight, like under 5.8 for before food and under 7.8 for after.

I hope you find a pattern that works for you and you don't get too stressed about it. 1st week is trial and error!

They have relaxed the rules at my hospital so that partner is allowed in the whole time BUT once they are in, they can't leave. So have to be prepared with overnight bag and food etc.

Again like BntTowers I'm worrying about being induced so I don't know if it counts for that but I hope so. I don't want to do this alone.

Quiffy · 14/08/2020 10:18

@BntTowers That's so good! Definitely need to get away from the stress of that place and relax a bit

Treacle81 · 14/08/2020 10:53

Morning girls, straight to hospital from mw appointment at 9am as she's not happy with my breathing. Never had time for a shower as hardly slept, so stayed in bed later, planned on getting one when got back. Not had breakfast, so hungry 😩 Supposed to visit mum today and drop partner off at friends and he's now stuck waiting in car for god knows how long 😢😢😢xx

HerondaleDucks · 14/08/2020 10:58

Hope you're ok @Treacle81 sounds scary.
Don't worry about DP, your health is more important than him being stuck in a car!

Treaclepie19 · 14/08/2020 11:01

How stressful for you @Treacle81 Flowers I hope all is okay.

OP posts:
BntTowers · 14/08/2020 11:03

@HerondaleDucks yours are looking good. I'm giving it until Monday then I'll call and ask what else I can do.

@Treacle81 I hope you get sorted quickly don't worry about everyone else it can all wait until you've got the all clear.

@Quiffy I think I would still opt for the induction at first. Abdominal surgery is a big thing to recover from and I want to avoid it if possible, but that's just my preference.

Quiffy · 14/08/2020 11:23

@Treacle81 oh no! Hope everything is okay!

MrsK89 · 14/08/2020 11:35

@Treacle81 hope you are feeling better soon x

@Treaclepie19 yes me. I am worried about everything opening back up again and the kids start school within a couple of weeks. All 3 have different start times during the first few weeks so I'm kind of panicking that all the running around will kick start my labour on the school run 😬
Pram is arriving today so looking forward to having a look and I'm sure the little ones will try and have a go 😂

NWnature · 14/08/2020 11:48

@Treacle81 Hope you are ok!

@BntTowers and @HerondaleDucks you guys are absolute champs for embracing the GD stuff, just so much to think about on top of everything. Definitely agree it will take a while for a routine to embed, but sounds like you guys are taking it in your stride and smashing it

Buzz22 · 14/08/2020 12:32

@Treacle81 Hope you are ok. Fingers crossed you can get home soon 🤞💐

I've just got home from my midwife appointment. I'm 32 weeks but bump is measuring 28 which means I've now dropped below the 10th centile line and have to go for a growth scan. Heartbeat was normal and she tried to feel the position of baby but said my stomach muscles were strong so she couldn't tell. I'm hoping baby is ok in there. So paranoid about small bump after losing last baby to no fluid.

otterbaby · 14/08/2020 12:41

@Treacle81 hopefully it doesn't take too long to be seen!

@Buzz22 if it makes you feel any better, I was about 32 weeks measuring 29 so had to go for a growth scan. Went the next day and the scan took about 5 mins and bumped me back up to just above the 50th percentile. The sonographer said it happens all the time, especially with taller women. Do you have to wait long for your scan?

Buzz22 · 14/08/2020 12:50

@otterbaby ah yeah I remember you saying you had to have one. I have to wait till Tuesday because of the weekend.
I did tell her we had a private one 2 weeks ago and baby was 33rd centile so a smaller baby, but within average. But they obviously have to follow NHS protocol and send me for one with them. Especially as the bump measurement has dropped below the 10the centile on the chart.
And yes a fellow tall person! I think its probably a combination of things like height, stomach muscles and I had a retroverted uterus till after 20 weeks which is late for it to come forward. Just a worrier anyway I guess!

MrsD1990 · 14/08/2020 13:11

@Treaclepie19 thank you for the reassurance ♥️♥️ I'm sure you're right.

@quiffy it really is! Husband commented that because he's not been at appointments and won't be allowed to visit if I'm on the postnatal ward it's like I've done pregnancy without him and that did make me sad 😞 but then we reminded ourselves that we have each other once we're home and then we can raise baby together ♥️♥️

@treacle81 I hope everything goes ok!! Am sure it is!!

MrsD1990 · 14/08/2020 13:13

@Buzz22 sorry I missed your message, hope all goes ok for you too! These growth measurements aren't very accurate so I'm sure when you have the scan it'll show everything's fine, like your private scan did!

otterbaby · 14/08/2020 13:38

Has anyone gone in for reduced movements? I've just been in for the third time since I was 22 weeks, which I didn't think was that often really...normally they're absolutely fine but the midwife this time was really judgemental and I felt like I was getting scolded because today was my third time. They go on and on about any change in movements so I don't know what they expect me to do 😞 baby has been fine every time - it's like she knows she's being watched and kicks up a storm, so I can't help but feel embarrassed.

Treaclepie19 · 14/08/2020 13:48

@otterbaby you've done nothing wrong. Some staff will be like this, they shouldn't be but I'm sure all of us will encounter one at some point. I know I have.
You did the right thing getting checked and I'm glad all is okay Flowers

OP posts:
Treaclepie19 · 14/08/2020 13:49

Posted too soon.
@Buzz22 hope all is well at your scan, measuring is always a tricky one so I think it's quite common.

OP posts:
BettyBotter1 · 14/08/2020 13:57

@otterbaby that's really bad they made you feel that way, you're right, they go on and on about it and how you shouldn't hesitate to call them. Try not to let it bother you, you're just looking after baby by following through.
@Buzz22 like @otterbaby I was measuring 29 at 32+4 earlier this week, putting me on 10th centile. Midwife wasnt concerned at all (though she did plot it inaccurately making me look higher on the chart 🤔). I'm just average height and have nothing in the way of stomach muscles 😂. I feel like I'm huge though and shes squirming about and I'm definitely getting bigger so I'm not worried. I can understand why you would be though so it's good they're sending you for a scan, hopefully it will reassure you all is fine.
@treacle81 I hope all goes well for you at the hospital

Spark27 · 14/08/2020 14:37

@otterbaby just try and ignore them. It's probably just a mw having a bad day. I went in 3 times with my last pregnancy, but haven't been in at all with this one (so far), just goes to show all pregnancies and babies are different. You should go in every time you think you need to x

@Buzz22, tried not to be too worried. I was measuring 10th centile at my 28w appt but when I went for my private scan at 32w baby was measuring around the 50th. Fundal measurements are notoriously bad. x

@Treacle 81, hope everything goes well at the hospital x

BecLJ · 14/08/2020 14:44

@otterbaby sorry to hear the midwife made you feel like that. I have been in once (at 23 weeks) and every time I speak to my midwife she always reiterates to go in if at all worried.

I've just had a midwife appointment and found out that I am quite severely anaemic. This is from bloods taken a month ago and the results hadn't been checked until today!! So I've been like this for at least a month. They say I might have to have an iron transfusion and it could put me into the high risk category as could be very dangerous during labour. Has anyone else experienced this? Really worried now and a bit annoyed it wasnt checked sooner.
