@Spark27 yes I thought the mw visited then, it's more the fact they just turn up no set time but probably by then with baby here I wont care or find it useful!

Hi @Beeali7 our trust has changed some rules over the past couple of weeks, I'm hoping it will change to two partners by the time I'm due because I would love my mum there too and think my husband would as well! When it comes to encouraging bits I've learnt from positive birth company I just think my mum would be more likely to encourage me to focus on breathing etc. Where as my husband will probably ask me what to do haha.
@Quiffy when did yours change to two partners? That's great for you.

@Treacle81 glad your migraine has gone. I am really affected by weather like that too. Cooler here today but so humid, we are still waiting for the storm! I hope its decent enough to clear the weather. Hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

Quiffy · 13/08/2020 14:45

@Treacle81 sorry on your migraine, that sounds hellish :(

@LexiM I think it was last month they changed (time is a blur right now) and partners can go to appointments and scans now. Just keeping my eye on it atm as the cases are rising here again so who knows what September/October/November will bring. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Beeali7 · 13/08/2020 15:02

Where are you based. I cannot have my partner in the scans or appointments

HerondaleDucks · 13/08/2020 15:40

How are you @BntTowers did it go OK at your appointment?

I got upset at myself this morning for a 8.0 2 hours after breakfast but my last one after lunch was 5.6 so I was happy with that.

Yes I am upset that I can't have my mum there too. I really wanted to have both of them with me. But she said its OK she will be at my house waiting for us when it's all over.

It's getting so real now. I'm looking forward to finishing work in 3 weeks and then I can start scrubbing the house.

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 13/08/2020 15:41

@Quiffy @LexiM I have lots to do decorating wise before baby here and a few other little baby bits but I'm honestly so tired just feel floored every day I'm at the point where I've kind of relaxed and thought if decorating not in time well it's not the end of the world. Hoping I'll get a big spurt of energy though still to just do it.

@Beeali7 welcome to the group! Only one birth partner allowed here too, we are in the area where the local lockdown is so I doubt they will change the rules where I am anytime soon. I wanted my
Mum there too but she actually didn't seem too keen said she might find it hard and stressful seeing me in pain 🙈

@otterbaby yes I'm also feeling off balance. Keep bumping into things forgetting how sticky out I am now.

@Treacle81 glad you're feeling better now

@LexiM I feel the same with my dp I keep having to tell him what he needs to do from the positive birth but how much he is taking in and remembering I have no idea 😂 he hasn't watched any of it with me I just tell him as and when there's anything to tell him.

Beeali7 · 13/08/2020 15:47

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy thank you.
Yeah I’d love my mum there. I’m in chatham and they won’t allow it midwife she doesn’t see it changing xx

Quiffy · 13/08/2020 15:50

@Beeali7 I'm Scotland, he's only been allowed at one scan which was a growth so he's missed every other appointment or scan where I went alone. I'm one of the lucky ones, lots of the ladies on this thread havent been allowed at all, which will hopefully change soon.

@HerondaleDucks Your mum sounds lovely saying she'll be there for you at home - that's exactly the way to look at it. My mum is doing the same, she knows there's a good chance she'll not be able to but says the house will be ready and baby has to come out regardless - there's all the time afterwards to enjoy.

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy Definitely not the end of the world if it doesnt get done. I keep thinking up new things I'd like done and DH is like but you're meant to be resting and you're too tired. Probably worried he'll end up in charge of doing it hehe.

BntTowers · 13/08/2020 15:58

@HerondaleDucks yeah it went well. I saw so many people though and I feel like all the information just went straight over my head. Baby is measuring spot on average from the scan which is good.
I was told if I don't go into labour before my due date they will induce on the due date, but obviously that could change.
Just sticking with diet and exercise for now and will see how it goes. My first at lunch was a little high but the dietitian said not to worry about it for a few days. It took me about 5 attempts to get enough blood for the test at first... Going to take some getting use to I think.
I'm still feeling a bit overwhelmed with it all but I just have to try and remember that it's only for another 9 weeks maximum. I think I'm going to buy the membership from the gestational diabetes website because someone said there's whole days of meals plans and I'm struggling with choosing recipes at the moment.

@otterbaby me too, I managed to open the car door onto my bump this afternoon.

@Beeali7 it's just one birth partner in our trust at the moment too. We did a little drive round the hospital today before my appointment to figure out where the parking and entrance for the maternity ward is which made us both feel a bit better I think.

@Treacle81 glad your migraine has gone it must have been awful with all the heat.

HerondaleDucks · 13/08/2020 16:07

@BntTowers I had that problem too! My tip is to prick the finger first, then squeeze it from all sides until a little drop appears, then turn on the machine and pop the blood on the strip bit. Otherwise I get all stressed at it flashing at me and try with not enough blood.
You will get the hang of it I promise!
I think that's a good shout, I've just been replacing big carbs with vegetables. So last night we had meatballs and instead of having pasta with it I had a mixed veg medley and some Greek yoghurt with sweetener for dessert. And I felt full and ok.

Tonight we have a chilli I've done from scratch so its low fat. Planning on having a very small amount of rice and broccoli with it. That way I can still feed the troops all their carbs or they would get cross at me.
The diabetic nurse I spoke to said if in doubt replace a carb with protein. Looks like eggs are gonna be our new best friends.

Also no sugar jelly cold from the fridge is really satisfying too.

@Quiffy Yeah my mum is trying to be as supportive as possible without getting too involved. So its gonna be really reassuring to have her around when I will need her the most. Like others... can see my DH being like a deer in the headlights through labour and afterwards!

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 13/08/2020 16:17

@BntTowers sorry you're feeling a bit overwhelmed with it all.

Anyone who has been prescribed iron tablets? How are you all feeling now? I think it's 3 weeks tomo for me and I just feel as tired as ever. X

Treacle81 · 13/08/2020 16:18

Thanks girls! @Beeali7 welcome, I'm due a boy on 5th Oct like @Quiffy and also in Scotland. We have had a few cases of covid in schools highlighted and they only returned yesterday, with an area been in lock down so imagine things could change again although at the minute two allowed. My partner missed my scans though as only recently changed. Just need to wait n see and pray no second spike. I'm struggling with lower back and hip pain just now which is new. Might be due to my walk yesterday.Tried sitting on my ball for a bit whilst working but just hurt my bum lol. Be better when I can bounce on it from next week. Going to speak to mw about raspberry tea as intrigued. Might be due to my walk yesterday. Temperature seems to be creeping up again, back to just pants and crop top 🥵xx

Spark27 · 13/08/2020 16:34

Welcome @Beeali7, I hope you're pregnancy has been going well. And I hope the restrictions open up near you for your labour. I'm in Cambridgeshire, DH managed to get in for my 12w scan (but I think ours was on the last day they allowed it), and then hasn't been able to come to anything else. He missed them all with DD as he was deployed, so I'm pleased he managed one. From this week my hospital relaxed the policy so you can have 1 visitor for up to 3hrs a day whilst on maternity ward (needs to be same visitor), still only 1 birthing partner and I'm not sure how long they're allowed in before/after. DH will be coming with me, but I only had him last time too. When I told my mum I didnt want her there she told me she didnt want to be there when she was giving birth, let alone when anyone else is 🙈 (not to scare you though, I didnt find it too bad, but I was so drugged up I couldn't feel anything!)

BntTowers · 13/08/2020 16:38

@HerondaleDucks at least I into have DH to sort the extra carbs out for! I think im just too tired today to think about it too much. I'm going to make some breakfast cup omelettes so I have something to snack on and take with me on a day out on Saturday and figure the rest out at the weekend. I have green Thai curry leftovers (homemade) for tea tonight, I'm just going to have a small amount of rice and pile on the extra veg and maybe a boiled egg. All I'm thinking about at the moment is how hungry I am!

I'll have to get some sugar free jelly as that seems nice and easy. I made some ice Lolly's from sugar free lemonade with a few frozen berries in which were very welcome yesterday.

I've had my rucksack returned from getting the tag removed today so I can pack baby's hospital bag at the weekend and feel kinda organised...

Beeali7 · 13/08/2020 16:39

@Spark27 I’m going to try not to have the drugs but not experienced it so don’t know how long that will last lol.

Yeah we had a private scan so he came to that but that was it.
They only allowed in here when you’re 4cm dilated and then they have to leave when you go back on the ward. So it’s really sad and if you have to stay in they can’t visit :(

Buzz22 · 13/08/2020 16:48

Hi ladies, just been catching up on everyone's news.

@babymama09 I'm so pleased to hear some positive news from you and baby girl xxx

@Beeali7 welcome! I'm due a baby girl on the 9th of October.
Where I live its currently still only 1 partner in established labour. They have said partners can now attend scans and antenatal appointments with the obstetrician if you have them. Still not allowed at midwife appointments.
There are also allowing a 1 hour visiting slot each day for partners on antenatal wards if you have to stay in. I'm not actually sure about post natal wards, I assume the same.

My god the weather this week has been horrendous down here on the south coast. I cant cope with summer at the best of times. We finally had a rain shower this afternoon but no storms like the forecast said and it's still so unbearably humid and muggy.

Sorry to hear so may of you are struggling with various things. I guess it's the joys of the 3rd trimester. I seem to so far be getting off very lightly in comparison to most people.
I have my midwife appointment tomorrow morning so looking forward to seeing if my bump measurement has caught up. I was 29 weeks measuring 26 at last appointment. I'm clearly growing so not too worried. Especially after our private growth scan where baby looked perfectly happy albeit uncooperative as usual!

I'm waiting for my birthing ball to arrive today. Apparently baby was not head down yet so I guess I'm going to have to start bouncing!

BettyBotter1 · 13/08/2020 18:30

@BntTowers and @HerondaleDucks sounds like you're both doing really well with coping with it all.
Welcome @Beeali7 I'm due a girl on Oct 2nd. In our area things have relaxed a lot - partners can attend appointments, be there for labour and then visit afterwards. Only one person still though. My DH will be working abroad and we're planning for him to come back 1 week before due date, so I'm gambling she will stay put til then. Hopefully she will come close to due date else DH won't get so much time with us. It's impossible to judge! Midwife has offered to induce me any time from due date if I want, but I'm cautious to be induced if I don't need to be from PBC.
I am also fed up with the heat, we had some rain but no storm and it's 95% humidity 😓 I am useless and not sleeping.

MrsK89 · 13/08/2020 19:36

I'm worried about that, as it only took me a couple of mins from 4cm to birth, when I had my youngest 😑

Spark27 · 13/08/2020 19:40

@MrsK89 I'd have DH stood just outside the doors to the labour ward the whole time, waiting for them to run out for him (if it was me, knowing my DH, he'd be on the toilet 🤣)

MrsK89 · 13/08/2020 19:44

@Spark27 is that an option? Can partners wait outside the ward, that would be better than nothing haha. When I had my second, I gave birth on the trolley while they were wheeling me into the room and DH missed it all, so I hope the midwives take this into account!
Hoping for better luck this time haha

ChickenDipper28 · 13/08/2020 20:02

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy
I feel slightly better, but still absolutely exhausted! I've been taking them for about a week and a half now 😩 Are you on 210mg twice a day? The waiting two hours between taking them and having Gaviscon is killing me!

BntTowers · 13/08/2020 21:10

@MrsK89 we have a friend who gave birth in May and her partner (along with several other fathers) were sat in their cars waiting outside for their partners to get to 4cm. I'm going to put a sleeping bag in the car ready for DH for colder weather in October.

@BettyBotter1 I was feeling the same about being induced after doing PBC, but I've also seen loads of positive stories on PBC where they have been induced and it's not as scary any more.

Spark27 · 13/08/2020 21:50

@MrsK89, yeah I heard of dads waiting out in the car so they're on hand. I think if they have masks on theres more chance they can loiter around. Maybe not for a long time, but maybe long enough for you 😅

I'm going to make sure my DH has a bag of supplies, blanket, charger etc in the car for him just in case. I'm hoping to stay at home as long as possible, but as I was induced last time I have no idea what it feels like to go into labour naturally, so might panic at any twinge and head straight there!

Treaclepie19 · 13/08/2020 21:53

With ds1 I was 5cm when I was checked on arrival so it wouldn't have been an issue but dh doesn't drive so not sure how we will navigate it. I guess we'll wait and see!
So much to think about with all the rules isn't there.

OP posts:
AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 13/08/2020 23:10

@ChickenDipper28 I'm on something like 340 twice a day. I've also made a real effort to include as much iron into as many of my meals a day. Hopefully we will feel better soon. I'm wondering if I've always been a bit low on iron as I've always been a bit tired ever since I got to the age of like 22ish so maybe this is a new thing for me to just always up my iron!!

@BettyBotter1 yes she did also put me off inductions too on pbc! But I didn't even really know what one was until she explained. Tbh since I finished the whole course earlier on today I've been pretty terrified. It's funny it seemed to work for me in the beginning but actually knowing too much is starting to scare me now, almost like ignorance was bliss for me. I might start again and just listen to the nice relaxing bits to calm me again. X

MrsK89 · 13/08/2020 23:13

Oh dear. I know if I left DH in the car, there is no waking him up haha. I'll have to leave him with some lucozade to make sure he doesn't fall asleep!
I am dreading it though 😬
