@Zaalfruit, like most of these things it really depends. I didnt have a period while expressing (I expressed for 3 months), and it probably came back a month or 2 after I stopped. My sister bf for a year and her periods can back about 6 weeks after she gave birth.

FourPlasticRings · 07/08/2020 07:40

@BntTowers cinnamon can help lower your blood sugar and increase your sensitivity to insulin. I have half a teaspoon in my morning porridge every day as a preventive measure. Might be worth a go?

Quiffy · 07/08/2020 09:25

@BntTowers don’t be hard on yourself, GD can happen to anyone in pregnancy and isn’t a reflection of you ❤️ How is work? When do you finish? Sounds like you could do with a few weeks to relax before baby gets here

@MrsD1990 yay on new house, less on kitty, hope they’re settling in more now. Master bedroom is a good idea as baby won’t need nursery for awhile anyway so you can all enjoy your bedroom.

@Zaalfruit if coke is helping with nausea then go for it, it’s good enough for Kate Middleton. It’s not like you’re smoking 20 cigarettes a day or shotting tequila, just a bit of sugar

@MrsK89 I saw lots of recommendations for big maternity pads so I went with them. Bought 6 packs which might be a tad excessive 🤪

Is it mad that I’m looking to periods in comparison to pregnancy? Feel like I’ve been ill for 7 months so I’ll take 3 weeks of okay and one of hell 😹 I’m sure I’ll change my mind when they appear though.

I got a humidifier yesterday and it might be a placebo but I slept soooo much better last night. I get really bad pregnancy rinitus at night and wake up either gasping for breath as my mouth is closed and my nose is blocked or I wake up with super dry mouth from the fan and breathing through my mouth. Had neither last night whoop. The cats also love it too 😹

BntTowers · 07/08/2020 10:04

@quiffy work is stressful and I'm really struggling to concentrate on it as I just want to research and figure what I can eat. I'm due to finish 22nd September, I'm tempted to ask if I can move everything forward a week to finish on the 15th so I should have time to relax a bit. I'll think about it over the weekend and approach it next week. I've not told work yet as my appointment is on my day off next week.

Quiffy · 07/08/2020 11:37

@BntTowers definitely go for it, you’ve got enough to think about without work so that week will make a big difference. I’m not an expert on GD but I know for diabetes low carb can be good, so more meats, cheese and green veg over fruits and chocolate. Hopefully being borderline means it will be easier to control 🤞

HerondaleDucks · 07/08/2020 17:37

Oh @BntTowers I really get how you're feeling. I'm now on tenterhooks waiting for the results of my bloods from this morning. I won't find out until Monday.
My mum said to just take each day as it comes, as I said before look into low GI foods which help reduce insulin resistance.
I think you've done marvellously well to make it so far and be on the edge of it. I'm sure diet and exercise will make a difference.
Please be kind to yourself, pregnancy is tough on the body. I support others saying maybe look into earlier maternity to give yourself a well deserved break before baby arrives.

BntTowers · 07/08/2020 18:27

@HerondaleDucks I hope you get a negative result on Monday. I though as it had been nearly a week I was all clear. I have found a really good website with lots of meal suggestions and recipes on, just need to make a meal plan and shopping list for that now.
I think I've decided to bring my mat leave and holidays a week forward so I would be finishing 15th sept, just need to ask my manager if it's possible now but waiting until Monday to do so. I started typing out an email today.

What has everyone got planned for the weekend?
We are seeing a friend tomorrow and going for a short walk on Sunday to a near by river. It will be nice to do something a little different.

NWnature · 07/08/2020 18:31

OH MY goodness it is BOILING. I’m melting. Can’t get comfortable and tonight is going to be horrendous! Hope everyone else is coping better than me🥵

@BntTowers and @HerondaleDucks I hope you guys can finish early and get some extra R&R before the babies come. I don’t know much about GD but as others have said, pregnancy is absolutely mad what is expected of our bodies and the weird things they go through. ❤️

HerondaleDucks · 07/08/2020 18:34

@NWnature I'm melting. Sat here in shorts and a bra!
Why didn't anyone tell us what a nuts idea it was to get pregnant in January and have to cope with being really pregnant in the heat?!

Treaclepie19 · 07/08/2020 18:57

I haven't moved from in front of the fan all day. Have just sat like a big whale in front of it.

@HerondaleDucks the funny thing is I knew. My ds1 was due September 19th and that summer was awful. Now I'm doing it again 😂 Eccept with an almost 5yo to entertain.

OP posts:
CharlieBalf · 07/08/2020 19:55

@nwnature I am NOT coping 😂 Kicked hubby out and swapped the summer duvet for just a sheet.

@HerondaleDucks I've been wearing my slip all day no regrets! Constant cold water by my side and complaining about the heat tonthe dogs at least once every half hour 😊

Baby was a little quiet today, still squirming about but a little less than usual I think. I'm putting it down the heat but will keep an eye out tomorrow too. Anyone else find this happens when it's hot?

Treacle81 · 07/08/2020 20:25

Sorry to hear you are all struggling, or weather changed last minute so it's been raining mostly but still clammy, meant to be warm tomorrow. Thankful that the predication was off xx

otterbaby · 07/08/2020 20:27

@BntTowers that's a bummer 😕 hopefully it can be diet controlled. It's so strange how different bodies react differently, please don't feel like a failure!

@HerondaleDucks fingers crossed for your result on Monday!

@NWnature it's pretty horrible here too and every time I open the back door for a breeze, flying ants come in! Ick. Last night I got 4 cold washcloths and laid them across my feet, stomach, chest and forehead when I was trying to drift off. It really helped!

@CharlieBalf I've noticed that too. I do find if I drink waaaay more water than I normally would, that seems to help keep her moving.

Had my growth scan yesterday and all is fine - weighing 4lbs 1oz which is 49th percentile. They said she's in optimal position for labour - head burrowed right down and facing the right way. My midwife also told me a few weeks ago that because my body has already been through a labour for my TFMR, that my body will treat this as a second baby, meaning I might not go as far overdue and my labour will be much quicker. That and her positioning are making me worry that she might make an earlier appearance than 40 weeks!

Treaclepie19 · 07/08/2020 21:04

Ooh @otterbaby that's interesting. Considering I've been having those cramps and feelings of early labour its been on my mind. Guessing that means with ds1 and ds2 (tfmr) my body might think baby 3 and go super fast?

I'd agree with drinking lots of water. If i notice she's slowed down I drink plenty and she carries on going wild. Always ring if you're not sure though ladies ❤

OP posts:
otterbaby · 07/08/2020 21:18

@Treaclepie19 yep it's very possible! I was surprised when she told me, but essentially it's still an induced labour so although our babies weren't full-term, our bodies went through the same process.

Treaclepie19 · 07/08/2020 21:21

@otterbaby That makes sense. Thanks for letting me know :)
I did wonder about it. I mean, it was Labour and not exactly short so I don't know why it wouldn't count.

Eek ❤

NWnature · 07/08/2020 21:40

@otterbaby so pleased the scan went well!

I’ve just done the cool flannels trick and it’s great! Draped one on the bump and it made the baby wiggle 😆

Zaalfruit · 08/08/2020 04:53

@HerondaleDucks I asked my mum the same question why didn’t she tell me about summer pregnancy- she said she planned all her babies to be born in June and July.

@CharlieBalf been feeling reduced movement but placing it down to heat - will try and drink way more water today and I hope that helps - also will
Keep an eye out today and just try and have a moment to kick count.

Are we allowed to place ice packs on ourselves I know we can’t place hot water bottles .

Treacle81 · 08/08/2020 06:56

@Zaalfruit cant see there being an issue with it, strange though as no matter how hot I get, bump also feels cool. That was definitely the worst sleep yet. Had like 4 hours, just could not get comfy on either side due to baby movement till around 2am! Longest amount of time he's been active! I went on my ball when his positioning was hurting and it did help move him, twice so I'll keep that in mind xx

Quiffy · 08/08/2020 09:14

Hope everyone is surviving the heat. It rained all day here yesterday and was only 20 degrees but still felt like a volcano so those down south must be really suffering.

@otterbaby yay on your scan that's really good ❤️

I have a mile of tasks on my to do list but no energy to do anything 😅 although my new hospital bag is arriving today so I might start on that as that sounds more fun that cleaning out the cleaning cupboard or painting the bathroom door 😹

LexiM · 08/08/2020 10:10

Well last night was hell! Usually when it's been hot I'm actually ok in bed with the window open. I just couldn't cool down and was awake on and off until 5am. My husband said I was breathing so loudly he couldn't sleep either 😂

I have no idea what to do today. As soon as I move I'm gonna be hot. I would love some rain... never thought I would say that.

@Quiffy new hospital bag sounds much more interesting! I have lots of jobs I should be doing too, but definitely not happening today.

@otterbaby glad the growth scan went well. Fingers crossed for an on time baby!

Buzz22 · 08/08/2020 10:37

@otterbaby yay great news about the growth scan. Did they tell you what position baby is in? Did you have a long labour with your TFMR? Mine was over 16 hours.

I dont know if this rains on anyones parade but I am my mothers 3rd child. 2 weeks overdue. Induced, with her longest labour out of the 3 of us siblings! My older brother was nearly born in the ambulance en route to hospital. They just made it in time!

The weather down here on the south coast was unbearable last night. I dont think I slept more than a few hours. The fan just felt like it was blowing hot air at me. I relocated to the sofa which was mildly cooler but couldn't get comfy. And the dog decided to join me and shes like a little radiator!

HerondaleDucks · 08/08/2020 10:38

Walked the dog this morning at 9. I regret every minute of it. I am still leaking now

LexiM · 08/08/2020 11:01

@Buzz22 my brother was my mums 3rd child out of three too. We were all 2 weeks late but she was induced with him at 2 weeks... that being said once he was on his way he was her quickest born. I really just think everyone is different and they come in their own time.

I still haven't move yet! 😂

Treaclepie19 · 08/08/2020 11:42

I'm ignoring that haha. This birth is going to be quick and easy!
With ds1 my waters broke at 3am and he was born at 3.42 am the next day.
With ds2 (TFMR) I had the pessary to start induction at 5pm and he was born at 9.42am the next day.

Just been for a walk and had to get changed when I got home. Its too bloody hot.
