@otterbaby that is such a beautiful nursery ❤️xx

CouscousEvaporator · 03/08/2020 12:55

@otterbaby beautiful nursery!

Yes I agree re PBC. I’m comfortable with the word contraction. I can imagine the midwives slipping up as well if you ask them not to say it!

AutumnBabyWinterMummy · 03/08/2020 13:00

@otterbaby love the nursery, all looks brand new the carpets and paintwork. ❤️ We are the same we want something for the wall with baby's name on but won't order until she's here as we haven't even chosen yet!
How nice of your husband 😂
I'm not too fussed about a baby shower either but we do have one arranged for sept. I think I would regret not having one so may as well just be grateful my mum is planning one! I'm a bit worried if will take place because where I live in the north we are under the new lockdown rules.
Also I'm the same with the positive birth videos one bit I know I won't stick to the "keeper of the cave" I understand the theory behind it but I just think me and dp would just feel really rude and a bit entitled if we tried to do that! And that would stress me
more so I've decided to ignore that bit.

NWnature · 03/08/2020 13:10

@Quiffy I will be buying all that !! Anything to help!!

@AutumnBabyWinterMummy I haven’t asked my mw about the Anibal, my SIL is a midwife too- her friend used one and had an amazing home birth but it could just be all fluke and in a way better to keep things simple as you say? I might give the massage a go and see how I feel!

Eeeek your description of SPD is exactly how it’s felt last few days, heaviness down there and then tingling/ pins and needles in hips when lying on side in bed and uncomfy when turning over. I’ll mention it at my next appointment. I’ve also got back on the ball for the full work day today so hopefully that will help a bit.

NWnature · 03/08/2020 13:12

@otterbaby ahh the nursery looks lovely!

Agree with everyone re the word contraction. I think PBC has been great so far for a clueless FTM in terms of some of the science and general process of birth. I’m Luke warm on the affirmations and more woo bits but will be trying to keep as calm as poss and do the breathing.

CouscousEvaporator · 03/08/2020 13:15

I agree @NWnature. There is one affirmation that says “birthing my baby will be easy as I am soooo relaxed” and it just gives me the rage 😂

Spark27 · 03/08/2020 13:19

Your nursery is beautiful @otterbaby. Love the colours together.

My biggest fear last time was the possibility of pooing myself during labour. DH said that if I did, he'd do the same in the corner of the room to take the embarrassment away from me! How thoughtful! Fortunately he didnt need to Grin The embarrassment happened when they had to take me into theater and gave DH some trousers to change into. They were WAY too tight and you could see everything. He walked into the room and we all burst into laughter. He said he knew they were tight but didnt want to be 'that guy' at a stressful time Grin

CouscousEvaporator · 03/08/2020 13:22

OMG @spark27 😂

NWnature · 03/08/2020 13:35

@Spark27 hahahah what a man!! 😆 love the solidarity

God @CouscousEvaporator I know exactly the one! Soooooooo relaxed I’m sure 🙄

BntTowers · 03/08/2020 14:01

You are all making me so jealous, I'm not 30 weeks until Thursday. Always feels like I'm weeks behind! Happy 30+ weeks, can't believe it's all getting so close now.

I'm hoping for a water birth, I love getting a Beth and had one the other night which really helped with the back pain. I think I'll be wearing my crop top bralette thing that I have (3 pack from Primark) or I have ordered a couple of the button down nighties from boohoo if I can't have a water birth/ for after.

I'm still working my way through PBC videos, I find she repeats herself a fair bit. Not had a look at the affirmations yet, it seems slightly too much for me to be honest. I will be doing perineum massage I think from 35 weeks, the NCT person mentioned it last time.

I'm not having a baby shower, it's my 30th birthday at the end of this month and I'm not sure if we are doing anything for it. People keep asking me what I want but all I can think about is stuff for baby or the house.

I'm all by myself today as DH has had to go into the office to set up a new starter, it does mean I had a really productive morning but now I'm finding it difficult to move back into the study to carry on working. But the good news is this is the last 5 day week for me, after this 4 day weeks only. Rather conveniently the internet has just gone down...

@otterbaby you're so organise the nursery looks great. Ours is no where near finished!

@treacle81 that sounds far too painful on top of bf!

bluemoon2468 · 03/08/2020 15:04

Re: PBC affirmations, there are some I find really helpful and supportive like 'my baby will come when my baby is ready' and 'my body is perfectly designed to birth my baby', and there are others I find quite cringy and can't cope with 😬 @couscousevaporator I also find the 'soooo relaxed' one really annoying 😆 I guess like with everything you need to take from the course what you want to and there'll be some bits that don't work for you and that's fine! All in all I've found it really helpful. I do think asking midwives not to say contractions is a bit much! I can imagine them having a right laugh on their break about it 🙈

CouscousEvaporator · 03/08/2020 15:45

@bluemoon2468 @NWnature glad it’s not just me!

The breathing and face relaxation has been brilliant, I’m not knocking the course at all, it’s just certain phrases grate on me 😆

It’s also been interesting reading about people refusing examinations and going over 42 weeks. I didn’t even realise you could refuse! Knowledge is power and all that!

LexiM · 03/08/2020 18:55

@MrsD1990 hope the move went well.

I'm also hoping to involve the birthing pool in my labour but theres only 2 rooms with them so I wont get set on anything until I'm in the hospital. My friend that had one said the midwives kept it really clean and were discreet about it too. I think more people use them generally during labour than actually give birth in them. I will probably try the massage but not sure how easy it will be.

I can totally relate to those of you who are uncomfortable right now. I was awake 1.30am, 4am, 5.30am etc - baby is moving so much I cant get comfortable. Also I thought I had wet myself so work up at 1.30 but I hadn't and must have just dreamt it but then I couldn't get to sleep very well because I was worrying about doing it! So weird haha. I reckon its thanks to my husband joking about me peeing myself all the time, I'm traumatised 😂

@otterbaby lovely nursery, so exciting when all done! I really need to organise mine as its a mess again. Trying to find space for all these lovely gifts the baby has generously been given!

@BntTowers I am 30 weeks on Wednesday so I also feel behind everyone here and will be so jealous when babies start arriving! That being said I still think the weeks go fast for me when not comparing to others.

I agree about PBC and think you have to take the bits you like. I did find her videos quite repetitive but I have also learnt quite a bit. I think I will find the breathing bits really helpful and just understanding the science behind how the body works. I totally agree about the word contractions, I am using that word and I notice most people in their birth reports do too!

@Indigogirl88 I did the same with primark, because you cant try it on I estimated way bigger than I am and my PJ set is massive!

Indigogirl88 · 03/08/2020 19:31

@BntTowers glad im not the only one with the nursery not yet painted 😅 but it looks lovely @otterbaby

Yep got to change all the XL things

Having one of those days where everything is annoying me. I did however order last few bits just need a ball now

Re birthing, I'm thinking a pool as well and just going to use one of the primark sports bra in the pool then put on something if i get out, if I'm bothered!

Zaalfruit · 03/08/2020 19:56

@otterbaby lovely nursery !!!

Loving the splash of colour :)

I brought some size 14 maternity dresses but they are huge on me - hate doing online returns . On Friday my dress just ripped on me - I was mortified - as I ate more during the day my stomach starting bloating our .

( I also find some of the Phrases really cringy for hypnobirthing )

Anyone have any scans coming up - I have a random one in the first week of September- just got a letter through the post - I thought it was week 12 and week 20 only . The letter indicates nothing but a scan and a time 🥴

Spark27 · 03/08/2020 20:03

That's a bit random @Zaalfruit, although I feel like I've read something saying some places were doing an extra scan at 36w. Cant really remember though.
Guessing you've not got a low placenta or gestational diabetes, or anything that might give a clue as to why?

I've got a private scan booked for tomorrow. Not a 4d one, just a health check to get an idea of current size, how shes lying, etc, and an opportunity for DH to get to come and see her again

Buzz22 · 03/08/2020 20:12

@otterbaby beautiful nursery. I cant wait to get this flat sold and into a new house and do up a nursery!

@Spark27 we also have a private scan booked tomorrow. Ours is a growth scan but also with 4d. I was anxious about my small bump and DP really wanted to come for and see her. Hoping we didnt leave it too late for the 4d as I'm nearly 31 weeks and they say you get the best images between 27 and 29 weeks.

Did someone on here recommend the honest midwife antenatal classes? We booked the first free zoom session today for next monday eve. If it's any good we will probably continue with the zoom classes which I think are £10 for 2 hours.

otterbaby · 03/08/2020 20:27

Thanks for all the love everyone! ❤️

@Zaalfruit I have 32 and 36 week growth scans as still technically consultant led. Like spark said, I've heard that a lot of trusts have started introducing 36 week scans as standard. I don't really need the ones I'm getting but I'm just keeping my mouth shut and hoping they don't click on and cancel them 😂

CharlieBalf · 03/08/2020 22:00

@Zaalfruit I also have growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks due to low lying placenta... I'm not complaining I get pretty anxious about everything being OK and wo t be able to relax until baby is in my arms 😊

Zaalfruit · 03/08/2020 23:41

Was meant to be consultant led - but they just forgot that I have an under active thyroid .

Not sure got a midwife appointment this Thursday will Ask about the scan . Might be 36 week scan :/

I can’t fall asleep - just feel so uneasy and large . Feel like crying just feel
So uncomfortable in bed - the pillow , the wedge nothing is helping me .

MsSian93 · 04/08/2020 08:05

Hi ladies,

Glad to see everyone is doing well as we reach towards the end! I had my 32 week scan yesterday and little man is weighing 4lbs 12oz and is growing perfectly. That was so reassuring considering i'm now on insulin to control the diabetes but theyre so happy with his growth they're happy for me to go to 39 weeks and be induced then unless i go naturally before then! I can't believe how close it's all getting now. Not looking forward to the heat wave again this week!

BntTowers · 04/08/2020 09:26

@LexiM we will be waiting together, I think I'll be very impatient when all the babies start arriving.

I've had a quiet baby the past few days, every time I start to think I should call I get a wiggle or a kick. I think baby has just moved towards my back for a bit.

It's our second wedding anniversary today, we are both WFH today but going to order tapas to be delivered tonight and I brought a little chocolate cake for pudding. It's felt like it creeped up on us both, in my head we are still in May/June not August already!

Quiffy · 04/08/2020 09:30

@otterbaby nursery is gorgeous ❤️ Ours is getting painted in 2 weeks, so exciting

@Spark27 that is amazing, definitely the kind of dh you want, total solidarity 😹

@LexiM with you on tired too, I wake up thinking I’m going to pee myself 2-3 times a night and gave to rush (well waddle) to the loo. Then baby wants to have a party. He won’t let me sleep on my left side either, which is comfier. He just pushes against mattress until I move 🤪 diva already

@Zaalfruit I have a scan booked for 37 weeks with my consultant. The letter just gives me a time and date but she told me at the first appointment it was a scan then a final (or second as she discharged me)meeting with her so could be because of your thyroid?

@MsSian93 yay on your scan ❤️ I’m really looking forward to my 32 week at the weekend. Agree on the heat wave 😭 bring on winter

Quiffy · 04/08/2020 09:31

@BntTowers happy wedding anniversary! Sounds like a tasty plan for dinner

Treaclepie19 · 04/08/2020 09:31

@BntTowers I said the same the other day! Our anniversary is next week and I had no clue. It hadn't really registered we were in August already.
Enjoy your meal :) Happy anniversary!
