@bluemoon2468 I thought they said not to count movements anymore and just focus on the regular pattern? I wouldnt get 10 movements in an hour often. That might be anterior placenta maybe but she definitely is active

OMG, it's too hot already. Supposed to be getting up to 34c here today. I may melt into a puddle. DD is giving me no let up either. I think I'm going to have to rely on cold drinks, the fan, and collapsing on the sofa as much as possible.

Wrt snacks I am all about the sweet and sugary stuff. Fortunately the online shopping means I can see the cost and try and limit stuff. And when DH goes top up shopping hes not as good at getting sweet snacks. And I really have to be careful what I eat with DD around as she wants it all too. Means I only really get 2 days where I can snack in the day.

I find it really difficult to concentrate on movements when DD is around. Fortunately I've not had any real concerns about it or needed to go in. I think by this time in my last pregnancy I'd been in twice for reduced movements. Definitely go in if you have any issues or concerns xx

Treacle81 · 31/07/2020 11:23

Awww girls my partners friend just had a little girl, she was due on 29th,induced yesterday due to bleeding and had her at 4am. Quinn Rose 🌹 8 pounds 9 and the mother is only like 5 foot and a size 6 😳xx

FourPlasticRings · 31/07/2020 11:37

Feel your pain @Spark27. Took DD out this morning to try and burn off some energy before it really hots up. I felt so ill by the end! Going to spend the rest of the day lying under the ceiling fan.

bluemoon2468 · 31/07/2020 12:25

@Treaclepie19 you shouldn't count movements in general, but if you're concerned about reduced movements compared to your usual pattern then you can. It's 10 movements in 2 hours, not an hour, if that makes any difference. And only counts if you're lying still on your left side and focusing 100% on movements. My midwife stressed that I shouldn't be counting movements all the time, but if I'm unsure of whether to go in or not then this is quite a good tool, because if you get 10 movements in 2 hours then the baby is likely to be absolutely fine (that's not to say any less than that means there's something wrong, but might warrant going in).

Treaclepie19 · 31/07/2020 12:34

I just do it over the day so I record when she has a period of movement and remember whether it was strong or lighter then go by that.
No clue how they're expecting you to be able to focus on movements for that long in one go 🙈

I'm feeling rubbish today. This heat is horrendous.

@Treaclepie19 I do the same - I have one of the kick counter bracelets which is super helpful. Can't imagine if everyone wasn't working from home/furloughed it would be easy to find somewhere to lay down for 2 hours! Especially those of you with other children Confused

bluemoon2468 · 31/07/2020 12:41

This is taken from the current NICE guidelines for reduced fetal movements if it helps anyone 😊

So found out today the little piece that appeared in the Salisbury Journal online has actually been published in the paper.
It was about how the rules at Salisbury District hospital had been relaxed so partners can be present for whole labour instead of just active labour. I just sent in my thoughts in an email and they turned it into a little article.

I've just seen that the post natal visiting rules have been updated in my hospital from 10th Aug. You can have 1 visitor, who can visit for one of the 2 allocated times (9am - 1pm or 4pm to 7pm). Needs to be the same visitor for the duration of your stay. I pleased with that and that it's starting to relax a bit. Hopefully it continues. I ended up in for 4 days last time due to a random issue with DD. Hoping it wont be anywhere near as long this time and they'll be keen to get people out quicker. Star

FourPlasticRings · 31/07/2020 13:54

Ooh, well done @HerondaleDucks! One for the scrapbook.

Treaclepie19 · 31/07/2020 14:58

Well done @HerondaleDucks!

Yeah our rules are relaxed now too. Partner with you in labour and 3 hours visiting a day.
I'm going to just want to escape ASAP. Really hoping to not have baby go to NICU this time.

HerondaleDucks · 31/07/2020 15:18

I'm so relieved I don't have to do it alone. There were stories about men waiting in their cars outside for hours and hours, one bloke 12 hours!
Fingers crossed this whole second wave thing doesn't leave us back in square one by due dates.

Indigogirl88 · 31/07/2020 16:15

Hi girls, I braved primark today for hospital bag and was pretty successful but omg my feet have ballooned! I also got a linen dress which I am loving in this heat Grin

Nearly nearly done now!

HerondaleDucks · 31/07/2020 16:51

Well done! How was it with a mask on in this heat? @Indigogirl88

Quiffy · 31/07/2020 17:00

@Alana1984 yes! Yarn solves everything 😻 it’s my go to thing to buy when dh has been unreasonable 😹 your boss sounds awful, at least the countdown is on now

@HerondaleDucks ahhh that’s awesome!

That’s us home from my parents 😭 sobbed silly at leaving. Was absolutely knackering driving home, esp with all the psychos out driving cause it’s sunny. Home safe though and onto final baby tasks!

Hope everyone is surviving this horrific heat

FourPlasticRings · 31/07/2020 17:19

I agree, focussing on counting movements can be reassuring. I tend not to notice them if I'm busy and then end up paranoid that there haven't been any. Once I concentrate for a few minutes I generally feel them more.

I feel like you're all far more prepared than I am! Haven't started on the nursery (baby won't be sleeping there for the first six months/year, obviously, but if I don't get it done pre-baby, I know it'll never happen!), haven't done anything at all in terms of a hospital bag, haven't even ordered the tens machine... Anyone else this disorganised?

Buzz22 · 31/07/2020 18:43

@FourPlasticRings I have nothing sorted! Except the pram. No hospital bag. Nothing to go in it! No bedside crib! Just the pram and few clothes!
Feeling very under prepared but we are also in the process of selling our flat so trying not to clutter it up with viewings going on.
Have stored the pram and clothes at my parents house for now. Just want an offer before baby arrives then we can start filling the place with baby bits and planning a move with a newborn 😭

NWnature · 31/07/2020 19:11

@Buzz22 don’t worry I’m in the same position! No hospital bag. My bedside crib came today but I have no pram yet 😂

@FourPlasticRings Same! I think we still have lots of time and as it’s my first I just don’t want loads of unnecessary stuff so I guess parents/ partner can always dash out for stuff we find we need once the baby is here? I do want a TENS machine though- will probs get closer to the time. Maybe amazon?

@Alana1984 your boss sounds just a peach!! Ugh! Best of luck with new venture post mat leave. So irritating to have to deal with all that on top of being pregnant.

LexiM · 31/07/2020 19:12

@Buzz22 I can see why you wouldnt want to get everything too soon, i hope your flat sells nice and quickly for you.

@HerondaleDucks I did see you on the journal online, definitely a nice piece for the baby book! I too am relieved that the rules are slightly more flexible, although we live quite close so husband wouldnt need to sit outside for long anyway! I'm hoping to stay at home as late as possible.

I am definitely not controlled with my snacks and sugary things! I have something sweet nearly every day at least once.. I definitely wouldnt last having it once a week. I am surprised the weight isn't going on quicker but I feel like I'm just eating less at meals but snacking more so it balances a bit and some days I dont eat much until the evening.

Went to Aldi this morning and got some bits from their baby event like milk storage bags, steriliser bags, muslins and cot sheets. Some more things ticked off the list and first time I've got baby things in ages. I'm seeing my friend tomorrow, the one that is giving us lots of baby clothes and she keeps texting asking if we want extra things, so I expect shes got quite a lot to give us and we are so grateful. Once we have seen the clothes we can then see if we are missing anything, weve barely bought any at all though as people have been so generous. I wrote a list today of final bits we need to pick up, most of it isn't urgent but I should get the bedside crib mattress ordered otherwise if baby was early he wont have anywhere to sleep! You never know but in my head I think he's going to keep us waiting.

I find the monitoring movements so stressful if I over think it. My midwife said they do see an increase in women going in when the weather is hotter although luckily mine has been a wriggly bean today. Usually fizzy drinks and ice help him along if I think he's been quiet, although sometimes I think I'm just not aware it he's moved much if I've been busy.

FourPlasticRings · 31/07/2020 19:30

@Buzz22 Glad it's not just me feeling unprepared! I keep trying to remind myself how little babies actually need in the early days to make myself feel better. Congratulations on the impending move! I bet it's quite difficult to have everything up in the air until then, but it'll be easier to move when the baby is tiny than it would be when they're mobile, I reckon. The older they get, the more stuff they accumulate!

FourPlasticRings · 31/07/2020 19:37

@NWnature I think you're right, we've still got time. I'm sure I didn't have my bag packed at this stage last time either, but I definitely had more stuff ready to go into it. Last time I rented a tens machine from boots but I've had a quick look this time and they only have the cheaper version with fewer functions for rent and the better version to buy is only about £10 more expensive, which is a shame in a way because I'd rather not end up with a TENS machine I have no use for after the labour. Might end up just biting the bullet on that though. Definitely a good idea to buy what you need after the baby arrives, I think, rather than guessing at what you'll need now. Last time we ended up with so much stuff that never got used.

MrsD1990 · 31/07/2020 20:15

I'm the same as a lot of you guys, I've got quite a bit more to buy but I've been waiting until we move house because our current flat is far too small to fit everything in. Doing the big move on Monday so need to spend this weekend packing our entire flat 😅

Aquablue1123 · 01/08/2020 06:31

Hey ladies,

You all sound so prepared, I need to get a move on now, I still have a few main things to buy like the baby monitor (any recommendations) and bouncer chair thing, I was looking at the tiny love 3in1 so I don't have to get a Moses basket, not sure how good it is.

So my morning sickness is back for the 3rd tri! 😫Anyone else suffering too?

My doctor has told me to monitor my diet closely now as she doesn't want me putting any more weight on for a few more weeks. There is still excess fluid around him so I need to work on my sugars etc see if that helps. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hope you are all doing well ❤️

Xx

Quiffy · 01/08/2020 07:04

@Aquablue1123 a monitor is what I'm struggling with too, no idea where to start! Still morning sickness here too (although nausea as I've not been sick in 2 weeks) could be worth taking heartburn things as I've found it helps despite not thinking I had heartburn as no other symptoms.

@FourPlasticRings that's rubbish on the TENs machine. Should be easy to sell on afterwards and get some money back though, esp with other people in same boat.

@Buzz22 @MrsD1990 exciting on the moving! Will be all worth it when you're both in your new homes ❤️

Still loads of time left to get things - esp when many of the things on our list they won't need for a few months. I have most baby things but house still needs a good few tasks done - nursery is currently full of charity bags as struggling to find anywhere accepting donations so don't feel as prepared as I should be. Does anyone have any recommendations on a type of roll away rug or playmat for babies? I have laminate flooring throughout home and I was thinking the living room could do with a nice mat for extra cushioning when on his gym or in the future with toys. I don't really want to get a proper rug as our cats love to be sick on rugs so thinking something wipeable I can put away.
