We frequently refer to the baby as his name. Its only online i refer to him as baby.

Treaclepie19 · 29/07/2020 10:54

Same. We call her by her name at home. Well, her shortened name because ds has taken to it.

@lexiM half the time we call him blasto, half the time by his name but we're also terrified it'll slip out in conversation and a bit worried we'll change our minds. Feels really weird saying his name out loud, like oh wow, we're committed to that now! 😳

BntTowers · 29/07/2020 11:25

I think with the tonic water it's the quinine that's in it that helps, but you would have to drink a LOT for it to be bad for baby, I also have doubts if it would actually work but people have said that a glass a day can help so who knows.
Quinine is the same thing that they say repels mosquitos, but again for it to have any actual scientific affect you would need to drink way more than possible.

Alana1984 · 29/07/2020 11:27

@MummyBearBoo and @buzz22 I think it's the quinine in tonic water - it was going to be my gin substitute before I realised how big the no no list is...

MummyBearBoo · 29/07/2020 11:42

That's it @Alana1984 - I knew there was a no-no ingredient in tonic water it's a shame!!

I don't call baby by name as we've made a shortlist but will pick out the name when we see what she looks like!

Obviously there's a name I prefer but we had some friends who named their boy but after a couple of weeks switched his first and middle name coz he just didn't look like the name they originally gave him -the name he has now suits him so much more!! Xx

Buzz22 · 29/07/2020 12:14

Yes it's quinine in tonic water. All I know is my friend swore by it for leg cramps in her pregnancy and she had a very healthy baby boy!
I think you have to drink a huge amount for it to be a problem.
Another friend claimed bananas helped her leg cramps?

We have a name for baby and DP refers to her by the shortened version of the name at home. I havent told anyone as I'm too scared of slipping up and saying it to someone!
Also dont want to tell people a name then change our minds once baby is here!

MrsD1990 · 29/07/2020 12:40

Thanks everyone for telling me your plans with family and holding the baby - I can totally see everyone's point of view so I'm going to just decide closer to the time, depending on the infection rate. We wanted at least 3 weeks on our own as a family before people started visiting anyway so that buys us some more time!!

@lexim On names, we call the baby by his name to each other but not told anyone his name. Husband accidentally slipped up and said the name on the phone to his mum a few weeks ago but luckily she didn't hear it! I let out a gasp when he did it 😂

@alana1984 omg I didn't know we weren't allowed tonic water!! I haven't drank it since the first trimester but it's what I used to get in the pub/at parties while I was still pretending to drink because no one knew I was pregnant yet!

Spark27 · 29/07/2020 12:52

@LexiM we dont call baby by her name at all, but that's cos I'm worried that either a) we will accidentally blurt it out to other people, or b) DD will tell other people what it is. Shes such a chatter box. She told all the nursery staff and my parents that I was pregnant before we told anyone or even properly told her! And when we picked her up from nursery yesterday they actually said 'there are no secrets in your house with her around', so I dread to think what she says Blush

LexiM · 29/07/2020 13:31

Good to see everyone's comments, I guess some people are better than others at keeping quiet!! I still think I will try his name out a bit but generally not because I just worry all the time about accidentally saying it. It was all I thought about when talking about him to someone. Whilst we only really have one name, I still want to see if it feels right when he's here and therefore could change our mind.

NWnature · 29/07/2020 13:35

Haha @Spark27 bless your DD!

We are still reallllly struggling with names. Doesn’t help we are not finding out the sex so have to have a short list for both! Definitely not settled on anything yet. We had Lana on the girl list then I read a thread on here about what it spells backwards!!!!

Alana1984 · 29/07/2020 13:41

@buzz22 @mrsd1990 and @bnttowers I'm sure I've seen quinine on the no list BUT like bnttowers says, I expect you'd have to drink a lot to see a negative impact. I'm no scientist and it wasn't in my "expecting better" book (written by anthropologist based on data not NHS guidelines) but if you're worried, bananas and a good stretch might help - it's the potassium. Likewise, lucozade or something similar for electrolytes/salts...

BntTowers · 29/07/2020 13:45

@Alana1984 @Buzz22 @MrsD1990 it's something which I think you have to do your own research on and decide if it's safe, or maybe ask your mw about? I only briefly looked at it so by no means know enough to say yes have some or no don't!

Treaclepie19 · 29/07/2020 13:53

We've not kept her name a secret. Some people have reacted badly but meh, up to them.

Oh no @NWnature! Lana is a lovely name too.

Hi girls providing you with the scan update. Wriggles is doing OK, she is growing normally, the fluid has not increased or spread, her organs are developing as they should and she is putting weight on. 😊😊😊😊 I am also made up to say that she is passed the stage I lost her older sister. I am now 27 weeks 6 days and have got the hospital to agree to do scans twice a week so back again Friday. And hopefully I will be able to give birth between 32 and 34 weeks instead of waiting until 37. Fingers crossed but she is a little fighter. Hope ur all okay

BettyBotter1 · 29/07/2020 15:26

@Treacle81 are those blankets? Very cute!
We have been calling the baby by the shortened firm of her name to make sure we like it and now feels like it's definitely going to be her name. We're not telling anyone until she's born so we can change our minds if she doesn't look like it and because we don't want the opinions. I am worried one of us will let it slip though. That's a shame about Lana, it's a really nice name!
I think the magnesium flakes I bought for the bath have helped my RLS and cramp, but it could be in my head. I've been enjoying the odd sipsmith non alcoholic gin with tonic, hope I don't have to give it up 🤔

BettyBotter1 · 29/07/2020 15:52

@babymama09 that's fantastic news!

BntTowers · 29/07/2020 15:55

@babymama09 that amazing news! Sounds like she is doing so well.

BecLJ · 29/07/2020 16:06

Amazing news @babymama09!

Zaalfruit · 29/07/2020 16:44

@babymama09 fantastic news !!!

@Treacle81 so cute !! Liking these blankets a lot Grin .

Spark27 · 29/07/2020 17:32

That's great news @Babymama09. Pleased to hear she is doing ok. Is there a good plan in place for once shes here?

Haha, @NWnature,that made me laugh out loud. I hadn't even thought of that. Fortunately our name is ok. Our surname is pretty bad (damn DH) so that restricts us a bit on names.

CharlieBalf · 29/07/2020 17:52

@nwnature I like Lana despite the backwards spelling-- I would have never realised if you haven't said anything!

@babymama09 glad all is OK and going to plan.

Name wise, well we don't know the sex yet but we have a few possibles for each. Mostly traditional names like Roberta or Bertrand 😊

babymama09 · 29/07/2020 17:56

@Spark27 they are doing a c sec whether emergency or planned depends on how soon I go in to labour she will be resuscitated if needs be and given oxygen if needed, they will then try and drain the fluid from her body and lungs (this is as far as I kno) by the looks of it she will be in Nicu for a while depending on how her lungs have developed etc x

blankiesandunicorns · 29/07/2020 23:36

That's brilliant news @babymama09 that she is doing well!

We have 1 name we both like, but I feel like I want maybe 2 or 3 names we both like to pick from. Don't think that's happening we can't seem to agree on anything apart from this one name!
