Congrats @Avocuddles, that is a great milestone to reach. It's hard when you unfortunately end up knowing far more than you wanted to know about loss at any stage, but there is no reason for you not to bring your baby home. When I feel the doubts overwhelm me, I try and tell myself that and that today everything is ok, I am pregnant and there is no reason to think things won't work out. Doesn't always work but it sometimes it helps. I know a few of us here are looking at induction/c section, is that something in your plans?

I ended up going into hospital yesterday for reduced movements. First ever with either pregnancy. I'd felt baby move but nowhere near as much or as strongly so I took my consultants advice not to sit at home worrying but to go straight in. The midwives were amazing, very reassuring and found the heartbeat straight away. Of course I then cried my eyes out and made the midwife cry too but it was such a relief to hear it. It was lovely to then have a nice half an hour on the monitor listening to his heartbeat and his movements. Typically as soon as the monitor went on he started kicking loads. They were very happy with the movements and i've been in today for a scan to check fluid, placenta and blood flow and all look fine.

I feel like I can update my weeks now too. Last month at work and because I have a c section booked in for 38 weeks, we are in single figure countdown now.

Well I'm officially full term! I've had a word with the goblin and let them know they are allowed out whenever they're ready! I don't think it will be for a while yet though if I'm honest, I suspect I'll be one of those who goes over my due date. Getting well and truly into my hypnobirthing now and feeling reasonably prepared.

@Littlegoth I can't believe you'll be preparing to meet you baby this time next week, it's so exciting!

@Sammilous2312 best of luck for tomorrow! It's hard to believe that at one point we were virtually due date twins!

SammiLou2312 · 02/09/2020 10:25

@Knotemma congrats on reaching full term and thanks for the good luck. We are hoping she might make an appearance of her own accord at this point...started with mild contractions in the early hours of yesterday morning. Had a midwife appointment yesterday afternoon and she confirmed that I was already 1cm dilated so she did a stretch and sweep to try encourage natural labour. Been having the odd pain since but nothing regular but you never know. Getting a tad nervous now but so excited to finally meet my baby girl 🥰

Hope you are all doing well xx

MOGMOGMOG85 · 02/09/2020 10:49

@Littlegoth @Knotemma @Avocuddles @Shefliesonherownwings so close now, it's amazing! Understandable avo that you are feeling nerves but agree with sheflies on the positive visualisation! However fully realise it's so easy to give that advice and so hard not to worry xx

@Knotemma do you have a plan for if you go past your due date? I have been thinking about this lately. My official due date means I ovulated and conceived on day 6 of my cycle and I know for a fact i didnt have sex until day 12. its also unusual for me to ov on day 12 it would usually be day 13 so I feel like their dates could be a week out and I worry about being pushed to have an induction when I don't even feel I'm overdue yet... I've been reading up about the effects of induction, breaking the waters etc etc and I would really really really really prefer to have a natural(ish - not induced i mean!) birth and trust my baby to come when he needs to. As far as I understand it the risk of still birth post term is "double" but also still very low, like 2% instead of 1% or something... I would be fully willing to have an induction etc should my baby or myself be in any danger or struggling, but if it's just about statistics I'd prefer to wait. But I feel nervous making this choice and am not sure if I'm properly informed! Thought I'd ask your plan :) I know you're scared of epidural the same as me and I just want to let my body do the work if possible. I also have this (potentially irrational) worry that I will go overdue because my body held onto my previous dead embryo for so so long! Embryo stopped developing at 6 weeks but I didn't start bleeding until 10 and a half, which just makes me think maybe my body "holds on". However I wasn't in pain when I miscarried and although there was a disturbing amount of blood loss, it all completed naturally and without the need for intervention in the end. I've had friends who have had medical management and had awful experiences with infections and things dragging on and on - it just doesn't seem good to force your body when it's not ready....

MOGMOGMOG85 · 02/09/2020 10:51

Ooh @SammiLou2312 I just saw your update! How exciting!!!! Congrats and good luck!!! xxx

Anon20something · 02/09/2020 10:53

Absolutely past myself now!! Diabetic midwife rang today and as I had 2 high results (0.1 over!) they’ve diagnosed GD, prescribed tablets and pulled my induction date from the 16th to the 12th!! Oh and went through all the risks including the big one so I cried 😭 so much for smooth sailing.....

MOGMOGMOG85 · 02/09/2020 11:06

Had a really bad day at work yesterday and have taken the day off today... my boss stopped me taking my breaks and wanted me to mow all day, and I was just exhausted. I also tried to start a heavy machine (not under direct instruction but under pressure and again without a risk assessment in place) which caused contractions (not sure how to describe but pain which differentiates from braxton hicks... not bad pain though, like period cramps, but still disturbing), dizziness and wooziness for over an hour afterwards. I was so worried and so pissed that I again did something stupid at work and put my baby at risk. I told my boss and he said nothing. I said I didn't feel able to complete all the mowing in one day and he said "well it has to be done" to which I replied that I refuse to feel pressured when I'm heavily pregnant and if I say I can't do it I can't do it. He then said "you're misinterpreting me, I said it'll have to get done - I didn't specify that you had to do it". But what would you think if your boss said "it has to get done" after you said you were unable to complete something? It's very heavily implied that I would have to do it?! He didn't offer any help! Anyway I couldn't sleep last night worrying and then had a nose bleed and so my sleep was over. Since I have an hours drive into work and have to wake at 5.30 I decided I didn't feel safe to drive in on no sleep and was too stressed. So I took the day off. The nosebleed is a pregnancy thing I have but it is also exacerbated by stress.

I've realised I really do need a risk assessment in place, despite drawing up my own one and having certain tasks agreed above that can be suspended until one is done. It's absolutely absurd that I still don't have a risk assessment 20 weeks after informing them and after practically doing one myself. I am trying my best to protect my baby but if I am under constant pressure and constantly being asked to do heavy lifting (yesterday he asked me to barrow a load of soil up a hill for about half a mile! Incredibly heavy work which I struggle to do when not pregnant! I did say no.) I end up compromising myself through stress and feeling guilty for having to say "no" over and over and over again so that sometimes I just don't quite say it. I have phoned the doctor this morning and hoping to get a telephone appointment where I will ask to be signed off any machinery use. I wouldn't mind using the push mower a couple of hours but the fact is my boss is constantly pushing the boundaries, making me do it all day, and trying to get me to use other machinery like the heavy hedge-trimmer, and so I just feel at this point I need a blanket ban on machinery which is simple for me to stick to. If I have a drs note he can't go against that. If he hadn't been such a for so long it might not have come to this. On the other hand I don't think its massively unreasonable to not want to use machinery at all in your last trimester. I'm also pretty sure I'm being deliberately sabotaged at work, alienated, blanked, and talked about behind my back by my all male team, but this is hard to prove. All I know is that the attitude towards me has totally changed since I became pregnant and I'm being treated like I'm lazy (like when he threatened to sack me for not hedge trimming). I have only had positive feedback from my work before falling pregnant and I am usually very ruthless and hardworking - I've been described before as a work horse (which I do take as a compliment!). I just don't think my boss understands that I shouldn't be expected to work in the same heavy manual way now. I think it's a fundamental tension of such a manual job that you do become (realistically) probably half as useful or less when you are pregnant, certainly heavily pregnant. I do recognise it puts pressure on the team but it's unfair that I be ostracised for it. These men have wives with children of their own I doubt they expected them to use heavy machinery and I doubt they would have wanted their own wives to be penalised at work. It's pure thoughtlessness and I'm so fed up.

I'm also trying to contact maternity action/pregnant then screwed for advice, although their helpline is always busy - not a good sign that I'm sure a lot of women go through so much crap at work! I finally got my antenatal appointments and annual leave sorted but this risk assessment thing, and the fact I've had painful cramps/sickness etc twice now at work directly caused by machinery is just so wrong...

Updating my weeks a couple days early because I'm basically in the last trimester now :)

Also @Whiffle77 hope you're doing ok? xx

MOGMOGMOG85 · 02/09/2020 11:15

@Anon20something I've just seen your update, I'm so sorry! I think there was at least one other on here with GD but I can't remember who - hopefully could give some advice? Is it the 12th Sep that you're being induced now (I can't see you on the list so can't remember exactly how far along you are)? That's so soon!

I'm so sorry for all the stress, but we are all praying (or secular wishing) for you and I'm sure those statistics and risks they give you sound far far worse than they are... I know this is slim comfort to you. I know a couple of mums irl who had GD and baby was absolutely fine.. the shock of having that news must be horrible though. Take some time to digest it and seek out info from others who have experienced similar - perhaps some positive stories will help balance out your worries a little? Not trying to dismiss your fears at all bc we all understand how your brain goes to the worst case scenario when you've experienced it xxxx

Anon20something · 02/09/2020 11:25

@MOGMOGMOG85 thank you! Yes I’m 36+4 today so I’ll be right on 38! Just feels like such a stress after having such a good consultant appt last week, I hate how disjointed the care is. I trust the consultant I saw last week who didn’t seem concerned at all as he’s only measuring slightly big, fluid is higher end of normal range and the bloods have only been slightly over - so I’m thinking it’s probably nothing to much to worry about but more of a ticky box exercise of well I’ve had two high results so this is what we just have to do. I suppose 4 days less stress? If I’m looking for silver linings? 😬 I just feel like at the minute I always go to worst case scenario, the closer I get the more scared I get of losing him. It’s so tough!

Littlegoth · 02/09/2020 11:41

@MOGMOGMOG85 this isn’t right. It goes against health & safety advice and they HAVE to make reasonable adjustments for you. If they can’t do that then they need to suspend you on full pay. If you have an HR or employee relations team my advice is to put in writing what is happening as they are putting you and your baby at risk. At the very least they should be making sure you have extra breaks and you should complain about being pressured to not take any. Forcing you to continue as if you weren’t pregnant is unlawful. Threatening to sack you was direct discrimination. If this situation landed on my work desk I’d be escalating as high as possible as it’s a tribunal waiting to happen. Honestly I’m so frustrated and mad on your behalf.

Littlegoth · 02/09/2020 11:48

@MOGMOGMOG85 I have GD too. I’ve got pretty much everything I think, winning pregnancy symptom bingo 😂

Littlegoth · 02/09/2020 11:49

Oops meant last one for @Anon20something

Knotemma · 02/09/2020 11:53

@Anon20something sorry that you're having a such a stressy time over this. A whole 0.1 over the guidelines!!! What were you thinking??? I have to say, I think they're probably just trying to be extra safe with you, given your history, but the way they're doing it and the disjointed care must be so frustrating. However 38 weeks is nicely cooked and your little one is doing great. Sending you all the positive thoughts x

@MOGMOGMOG85 I'm planning to go over and be monitored up to 42 weeks unless there's a solid medical reason not to. The average FTM (which I consider myself to be from a birth perspective) has their baby at 41+3. I found it really interesting that 40 weeks is pretty much just an arbitrary figure. In France they use 41 and in some countries 42 🤷‍♀️. I've been told I'll be offered a sweep at 39 weeks and induction from 41, but honestly I'd rather that the goblin comes in their own time (I might not be saying that if I'm still pregnant in October though!!). I'm doing lots of bouncing on my yoga ball, eating dates as they apparently help with the hormones and drinking a cup of raspberry leaf tea every day, to hopefully progress things on their own. The more research I do the less I think an induction is the right course of action for me, with my personal circumstances and history 🤷‍♀️.

I'm sorry that you're having such a tough time with your boss again, you definitely need to push hard for an appropriate risk assessment. I'd so hoped that after you'd taken things higher things would improve. As for him saying you're misinterpreting him, clearly he needs too communicate better, so he's not leaving himself open to being misinterpreted, especially when he's basically being discriminatory in the things he's saying. Take good care of yourself x

MOGMOGMOG85 · 02/09/2020 13:36

Aw @Anon20something you're doing so well though, and you're so almost there now! Good to see it as four days less worry :) only 10 days to go! How are you going to keep yourself sane in the mean time, do you have a plan? As @Knotemma says 38 weeks is nicely cooked, and it's great that he's a bit bigger too in that respect? :)

Thanks @Littlegoth - wish my situation would land on your desk haha ;) I actually think I had the nosebleed last night out of sheer anger at my boss. Prob not good to be so emotional about it... Spoke to maternity action today and they were horrified. Have taken advice and realise now that putting something in writing has to happen, and soon. My boss always discourages me from emailing him (surprise surprise he says he prefers informal chats) and I didn't really take on board before how important it is to get things in writing. I do think it's a bit more intimidating to ask for things in writing when you're a manual worker too, as it seems a bit odd and comes out of the blue, where as office workers communicate this way as standard which probably means everyone behaves themselves a lot better (well a bit better at least, I'm sure there's a whole array of twerps sat behind desks too!). Anyway I'm gonna do it now, copy in him, his boss, and the sort-of HR woman, as I'm pretty sure none of them know what's gone on between me and him, or me and his boss - likely NOTHING has been written down! HR lady has sorted out issues in the past like him trying to force me to give up my annual leave entitlement etc and hopefully if I put something strong in writing she will be motivated to get on the case of my risk assessment asap. Also waiting for a call back from GP for advice and hoping to get a note to take with me. I feel like such a sap that this issue has been dragging on and on and I've failed to deal with it! Hopefully this is the nail in the coffin now. Also been advised I can def take up a grievance and/or discriminatory lawsuit but I really don't want to do that unless I have to. In a way I would LOVE to nail them, but for myself I just want a nice easy life for the next 3 months (only 8 1/2 weeks at work) now until baby arrives (I wish I had a good nickname like @Knotemma has goblin!!). Sorry you got the full jackpot of pregnancy issues! What else have you landed up with and how are you coping?

@Knotemma so you would go for induction at 42 weeks if baby still not here? I'm sure we're over-worrying and hopefully both of ours would arrive by then! That's interesting about the average FTM gestation and makes me think mine will def be over! I might even be tempted to wait over 42 weeks with lots and lots of monitoring but who knows how I'd feel at the time. Do the stats change after that then?I wonder what they'll say about my assertion of when we dtd - I 100% KNOW that we only had sex 3 times that month because I thought "what a waste I'm sure we won't conceive" - day 12, 14 and 16... so I can't have conceived on day 6! But they do say their early scan is a much better date so who knows - maybe if he somehow got a head start their date is more reliable. I had heard about raspberry leaf tea! Sounds yummy! Will def get myself some when I'm getting further on (is it from 36 weeks?). Dates sounds good too - tasty as well and helps with... ummmm.... going to the loo! I'm so sick of prunes!

Updating my weeks. Reached the BIG 3-0, which for some reason I saw as another milestone. Very much on the countdown to finishing work. 5 weeks to go. To say I'v become a little disengaged would be an understatment!

@SammiLou2312 - I had your induction date in my head and was planning to come on to wish you luck for tomorrow. Exciting to see things might be progressing of their own accord! Do keep us posted if you can. x

@knotemma - Brilliant to have reached that full term date. Have you any leaning in your mind toward what the gobline might be? Boy or Girl? I binged the Hypnobirthing pack I have over the last couple of days. I think I started to panic he might decide to come early and I was really not prepared at all. Like you, I'm hoping to avoid intervention if I can. At this point I'm still classed as low risk so unless I'm told otherwise I'll be doing what I can to get him to come out of his own accord.

@MOGMOGMOG85 - Your work scenario sounds like an absolute nightmare. I am also frustrated on your behalf. I oversee operation in my company (including HR), and your boss is definitely an employment tribunal/lawsuit waiting to happen. Definitely get as much in writing as you can, and perhaps keep a note of times/dates these questionable conversations have been happening. On the induction question - I think the rule of thumb is they won't leave you go over 42 weeks. From what I've read this is due to the placenta not being as efficient from about 40 weeks. But this is why you can request frequent monitoring from 40 weeks if you would like.

@Anon20something Sorry to hear about the GD. I know SammiLou had it and managed okay. On the plus side, if they ask you to make any dietary changes or otherwise it will only be for 10 days. But appreciate that any news like that will further heighten your anxietis at this time. Sending you lots of positive vibes. Your boy will be here soon. xxx

SammiLou2312 · 02/09/2020 14:46

@Anon20something I've been on meds for GD since 1st July...it scared me at first but has been manageable. Did the docs tell you what the plan is? I would be surprised if they don't try manage it with diet only at first. If you need to talk at all, happy to try and help. Try not to stress about it too much and remember that it is nothing you have done to cause it, GD just happens sometimes x

@AnxiousLady1 thank you for the good luck wishes, will try to update everyone once I have news x

Knotemma · 02/09/2020 14:48

@MOGMOGMOG85 if I got to 42 I'd go for induction, there's only so much a body can take and at that point the placenta can be less efficient. For name it's just about challenging whether there's a medical need 🤷‍♀️. My due date was put back 2 or 3 days at my 12 weeks scan, but not enough to be significant I don't think. I'm pretty certain we could conceived new year's eve or new year's Day, it's amazing what a little bit of booze and a short holiday can do! Goblin come from the pointy "ears" on the early private scan we had, in combination with how sick I was at the beginning!

@AnxiousLady1 I've got no clue what we might be getting, no dreams, no little thoughts of boy or girl🤷‍♀️. Honestly as long as I get a baby in the next few weeks or so I couldn't care less.

I've just had the slightly surreal experience of having an interview at 37 weeks pregnant. I feel like it went really well, like it's a team I would like to work with and we laughed and joked about my pregnancy and the life changes that are coming my way, so that felt really good. So i might find out in the next few days if I have a new job with my current employer...life can be weird sometimes!

Anon20something · 02/09/2020 15:48

Thank you so much everyone whose replied to my little flap this morning about GD! Really helpful hearing from the ladies who have it too! They’ve prescribed me the metaformin to take straight away, and pulled my induction date forward. I just feel like hearing all the risks and them saying about a difficult birth (which I know is rare and worst case!) really freaked me out and caused so much anxiety! Feeling much calmer now though and I suppose at least they’ve been decisive with a plan! Hopefully he’ll be just fine and 38 weeks is a good gestation for him! Given my previous birth experience too, hopefully all goes just as straight forward and this time I get to bring him straight home! X

Ah I have missed so much... have read the updates but probably everyone has moved on with stuff by now...

@MOGMOGMOG85 Oh my god, I really want to punch your boss in the face. What an absolute s*head. Thinking he's so clever by making it out as if he didn't mean you finishing it. And not checking with you what was suitable in the first place! I have no professional skills like @LittleGoth but definitely go with that advice, get it in writing, complain to whoever the hell will listen and get him into as much trouble as possible.

I had my scan and consultant appointment today. My placenta is out of the way of my cervix. It was double checked, both sonographers did an internal and external scan, and they are happy that it is definitely out of the way, so I'm good to wait until 40 weeks. They had no explanation for all my scans listing it in a different location. Baby is also already measuring at 6.5 lbs, so she's going to be a big one like her brother. I feel like I really psyched myself up for an early section, and now it's not happening, which is a good thing, but I now need to work on getting my head into another place. For those discussing induction, (@knotemma @MOGMOGMOG85 can't remember who else, sorry), I can definitely recommend the AIMS book on induction choices and evidence. I found it really invaluable when talking to the Dr. Because of my first birth (third degree tear), and the fact that she's measuring big, they are happy for me to switch to a section at any point. I'm allowed an outpatient pessary induction to start with for less time in hospital, and I want to be quite closely monitored, so that if it seems there's no progression I can switch to a section if I want. Plus, because of my age they wanted her out by 40 weeks, but are happy to let me go until 40+3 for the induction. So I feel like I am really being listened to, but they are still playing it safe (which I like) and I actually feel like I have a say at every point and I won't get stuck in the 'cascade of intervention'. I still have lots of questions for my next appointment, and I will never get my lovely MLU water birth/home birth, but I feel like its all ok. It's really unlikely I will go into labour naturally before 40+3, but I think I'm happy with the timings, given the extra risks of being 40. Oh, I should also say that with my first, because I was 'only' 37, they were happy for me to go to 42 weeks (I went into labour a couple of days before but it was slow) as everything was looking/measuring fine. It does seem to be a balance of risk, so I'd just say what your ideal timing is, and then discuss the risks and work to a place you are all comfortable with.

late updating my weeks... but doing it anyway as don't want to wait until Sunday and jump a week.

TunnocksTcake · 03/09/2020 09:44

Morning ladies, hope everyone is ok. I've been suffering with tiredness and been very emotional and a bit down in the dumps the last week so just been wallowing on the sofa and watching Disney films and now feel much better. I had to go to work for what I thought was going to be 'goodbyes' after being made redundant but it was very anticlimactic and disappointing. Not one proper thanks or goodbye was said, my boss continued to work while I and the other admin girls sat in the corner chatting between ourselves and then she asked us to empty our desks and sent us on our way... I was expecting at least a little bit of a goodbye after over 2 years but I suspect she is finding the whole situation too hard and apparently thinks everyone will be back next year but that's not her decision... it has left me feeling really dissatisfied with how I have left the company. If it weren't for Covid there would have been a party and a card and a buffet, it's just another disappointment of this year I suppose!

@MOGMOGMOG85 I am disgusted by your boss' behaviour, definitely keep everything in writing and keep sending over reports of any less than satisfactory 'chats' with him. A paper trail is so important with things like this and if you are anything like me if you wait to report it you will forget crucial details 😂

I am also one that ovulated late - pos opk on cd 23- and have had my dates moved forward at my scan. I think by ovulation dates I would be over a week behind where I am now, and while I hope she's here by the end of September I would rather wait, be monitored and let her come in her own time even if she is bigger (I am 6ft and fairly wide hipped myself so not too concerned about her size!) I am yet to talk to my midwife about this but will probably do so at appt on Monday. From my scan at 30weeks I also know that most of her size is from long limbs!

Updating ahead of Saturday, full term in 2 days time! Can't believe it! 😱

Updating my weeks!
Things are a bit manic here with yesterday being our sons birthday and his first day of reception.
Tomorrow I have a growth scan because of going in for reduced movements.
Feels like I have a million things on my to do list and my body is worn out just from the school run 🙈

Shall catch up properly now and read back ❤
