God I'd have flaked out if I hadn't eaten on demand every two hours.

tmc14 · 08/08/2020 19:27

I had my GD test about 6 weeks ago now... But mine was just the first part too. So couldn't eat breakfast, went to the clinic, they took my blood at just after 8am, then I was free to go (straight to the next door M&S for a pastry Grin ) So it wasn't too bad. I think it's still quite variable as to where you are I guess? I was soooooo grumpy because they were 15 minutes late... I don't do skipping breakfast.

Avocuddles · 09/08/2020 09:15

Intrigued to hear how criteria for GD tests are so different over the country. I'm over 35 but haven't had one, I think in my area they only give you one if you have a family history of diabetes, had a bmi over 30 at the start of pregnancy or are measuring significantly ahead which I guess must be the same in @TunnocksTcake's area.
My diet has been incredibly carb heavy during pregnancy (far higher biscuit and cake consumption than usual) but haven't been checked at all other than the standard bloods.
I hope your test goes well @TunnocksTcake and the hunger isn't too bad!

Packed my hospital bag yesterday - I imagine I'll amend / rearrange it a million times before the due date but feels good to have done it. DH built our bedside cot which is now hiding away in the spare room so the only major job remaining is to tackle the car seat base - one for another weekend I think.

Off to the hospital tomorrow for my next growth scan and bloods then I'm actually going into work (eeek!) for a quick meeting - figured as the hospital is close to my office it was the ideal time to do it, everyone else started doing a couple of days a week on site last week but fortunately they're taking a relaxed approach with me. I'm not particularly nervous about it from a health perspective, but think it will be strange after such a long time. Hopefully the COVID risk is pretty low now and lower for me than most - I had a private antibody test last week and it came back positive in spite of the fact that almost five months have passed since I was sick! I'm hoping it means that the baby may have also acquired some antibodies / will acquire some through breastmilk - would be nice to think a small positive came out of being so ill......

Time for another weeks update.....

@avocuddles Yes it's strange you are not being given a test. Mine seems to have been solely based on fact I'm 35 rather than BMI or any family history of diabetes. Maternity approach really does vary from hospital to hospital. I'm here since 8.30 this morning 🙈

Good luck with the return to the office. I won't be going back in at all until after maternity leave. Other than to potentially clear my desk at some stage, but I might do that on a weekend. Now that I'm heading into 3rd trimester I am even less inclined to want to travel into the city on London underground and am lucky in that the nature of my work is far more suited to working from home than in an open plan office.

Shefliesonherownwings · 09/08/2020 10:25

I'm really surprised by all the different approaches to GD testing too. I have to have it due to family history and and last year I had to do the whole fasting, have a blood test, drink a glucose drink, wait two hours (wasn't allowed to leave the hospital) and then another blood test after two hours. This time I don't need to do any of that, they've said they'll just test my blood at my 28 week appointment when I get my other bloods done. No need to fast or drink anything sugary and wait around. Apparently they're doing it this way because of Covid. Strange everywhere is so different.

Hope all goes well on Monday @Avocuddles at the hospital and work. Same as @AnxiousLady1 I won't be going back in before September. I don't think our office is actually opening until at least December but even if it was I'd also be nervous about traveling on public transport into London. I am certainly not missing the 1 hour and a half each way commute into work right now!

Knotemma · 09/08/2020 11:00

Yeah the GD thing here is definitely very different depending on trust. I don't have any risk factors, so don't have to do the test. However they dip my urine at every in person appointment and use those multi-purpose strips that show about 15 things, so I always assumed that would show if there was glucose in my urine? Who knows 😂

TunnocksTcake · 09/08/2020 11:31

@Avocuddles that's good you have the antibodies, I imagine that's quite reassuring and as you say hopefully baby will get some from you. Have a good day at work tomorrow!

This is all very interesting re gd testing! The only reason I'm having it is due to the jump in fundal height measurements, I've had the urine test strips at all appts too and had no other signs for it, was a low BMI before pregnancy so my size now is the only 'risk factor' I have.
We shall see, I'm guessing it's just protocol and I've recently had a scan so they are just covering all bases 🤷🏻‍♀️
I wish I had the single blood test though!!

Rachael321 · 09/08/2020 12:30

Its crazy how we are all (pretty much) under nhs care and it can vary so much! Youd think they followed the same or at least similar guidelines.

I had GD test due to my BMI, was supposed to be the fasting-sugary drink-2hr wait test but I just got fasting overnight and then blood sugars test, out in 5 mins!

Re dip test @Knotemma mines the same and I got "told off" as there was a trace of sugar in my wee at an appointment... turns out that was because i had frosties for breakfast. Oops 😂 been fine otherwise

On another note... met someone i know while out shoping this morning who asked when I was due. It hit me then that I can now say I'm due next week 😲😲

JuniperAndRose · 10/08/2020 10:45

For the ladies who are having leg cramps - a friend of mine had this when she was pregnant and it was so bad she ended up going to A&E! She was recommended to drink carbonated water before bed and swore that it helped to reduce the cramps.

Avocuddles · 10/08/2020 11:11

@JuniperAndRose my husband's nan was recommending carbonated water to me the other day as she says it really helps with her legs!

Just had 33 week growth scan and all looking good, baby estimated to weigh 4lb 10 at the moment so has almost doubled in size since the previous one five weeks ago and nicely following the growth curve. Have a call with my consultant on Friday to discuss my blood results then probably only one more hospital appointment before 'the day'.... it's all getting real!

@Rachael321 so exciting that you're due next week, hoping the baby doesn't keep you waiting too long!

TunnocksTcake · 10/08/2020 11:49

@Avocuddles that's great news about your scan. I know what you mean about the shrinking number of appointments, it's going to come around so fast I bet!

@Rachael321 1 week?! How exciting!

Gtt all done, didn't actually feel as weird as I thought I would til I got home but sat eating a huge lunch and will treat myself to something afterwards 😋 the nurse said I have tiny veins which makes them hard to find and more painful for me, great! 🙄 had the finger prick test first thing as well which was 4.1 and she said they want it below 7 so that's good. Got to wait a couple of days for results now.

AnxiousLady1 · 10/08/2020 12:43

Happy Monday ladies!

@Avocuddles Great news on your growth scan!
@TunnocksTcake Just waiting on my results from the GD test now too. Fingers crossed for both of us!

I am struggling massively with this heat. Its making me more miserable than any pregnancy symptom has thus far. I think its the lethary that comes with it. I am really struggling to do anything remotely productive. Checking the weather constantly praying it updates and will come back down before Thursday. Otherwise its a week of circa 34 degrees. Don't know how anyone in further stages of pregnancy are coping at all.

tmc14 · 10/08/2020 19:01

Argh ladies I need to vent... so had appointment this afternoon to discuss placenta praevia... clinic was running 2 hours behind, sat in a baking hot waiting room in a mask, finally get to see Dr, couldn’t load my scan images (computer issue), couldn’t scan me there and then as scan clinic was also running over, refused to book an extra scan, refused to admit one of my scans must be wrong even though placenta doesn’t move down, said I had to just spend 3 weeks until next appointment behaving as if it was complete praevia, so no lifting/exercise/being far from hospital/can’t do any of the movements to encourage transverse baby to move head down, just in case. He then had the audacity to take my blood pressure and say it was a little high and I should get it checked weekly! Wonder why it was high?! Feel like I wasted the afternoon, have no extra info and feeling stressed and rubbish. Booked a private scan next week to get a definitive check on current placenta position. My hospital are usually good, but this was just something else.
Ok, dinner almost ready, hope you’re all doing OK in this heat, I’m struggling, as is DS so we’re all fairly grumpy!!

Knotemma · 10/08/2020 20:28

@tmc14 that sounds like a crappy day. Someone somewhere has made a mistake, probably an honest one, but in this day and age no one wants to admit it in case they get into trouble. Hopefully the private scan clears things up. Can't imagine that it's been a fun day in the heat though x

tmc14 · 10/08/2020 20:37

Thanks @Knotemma I'm really fine with a mistake, it's not a problem. Although I also understand that they don't know if I'm the type of person to kick up a fuss or not! But to be told I have to act as if I might have a massive bleed at any moment and it's all a bit precarious, when there might be no need at all because it's just a scanning error is just very frustrating. Just have to try and put it to the back of my mind now until next weeks scan. Easier said than done! Really lucky to have the private scan option, as it saves me two weeks of stressing.

AnxiousLady1 · 10/08/2020 21:12

@tmc14 I actually find that outrageous! How can they simply tell you to assume the worst until they can fit you in for a scan?!

Knotemma · 10/08/2020 22:03

Yeah being told to assume the worst is awful. I can understand not being able to get you in today, but 3 weeks is ridiculous. Especially when that means total pelvic rest etc.

I've had a very emotional night, my aunt has saved baby clothes not only from when my cousin's were born (they're 24 & 26) but also stuff from when I was a baby, including the outfit I came home in, which both her girls wore. She also has one of the last cardigans my gran managed the knit before her eyesight went, which she's been keeping for me for years. We lost gran last year, so every time I'm looked at the cardi (or the bag it's in) I've just burst into tears. It's really special to have something from her for the baby, she would have been so excited to be a great grandma

TunnocksTcake · 11/08/2020 11:33

Eugh this HEAT! I am dying! I thought we were supposed to have a storm here last night but no such luck. I hope you are all doing ok.

@tmc14 that sounds incredibly frustrating, sorry they are being so difficult. Glad you have managed to get a private scan next week to get a difinitive answer. Seems ridiculous they couldn't get you back in sooner than 3 weeks 🙄

Rachael321 · 11/08/2020 13:48

Saw consultant today... induction booked for next Tuesday when il be 39+5!!
Also had a sweep today, cervix is soft but closed, head partially engaged. So things are moving along as they should be.

Crazy stuff!!
Bump pic 38+5!! Its dropped!

AnxiousLady1 · 11/08/2020 14:49

@Rachael321 Aaah!! That's so exciting!! Can't believe we will have the first graduate on this group next Tuesday. Be sure to pop us an update when you can. Looking forward to seeing some happy baby news. 😁

Whiffle77 · 11/08/2020 15:21

Oh my goodness @Rachael321 that is so exciting!! Can't wait to see your news. How are you feeling, are you coping in the heat? I am sweeeaaatttyyyy!!!

Rachael321 · 11/08/2020 18:00

Thanks @AnxiousLady1 and @Whiffle77
I'm in Scotland so not as hot as most places but I'm still struggling!! Hate clothes!!!

footprintsintheslow · 11/08/2020 18:42

@Knotemma I've just tested up hearing about the little cardi from your nan and your going home outfit. How wonderful to have it.

footprintsintheslow · 11/08/2020 18:44

It's been 36 degrees here in South Wales, it's still 26 here now. I've also had the oven on baking gingerbread men with the toddler and the dehydrator going all day as I found a bag of near dead onions. It's been hell here in the heat.
