@tmc14 so glad everything is ok! You must be so relieved - and tired! That's great that your placenta is working well, and very strange that they missed the placenta previa!!! I'll cross fingers for you that it moves up, as far as I've heard they really can do that! I understand how you feel about a section, I'm terrified too. The only experience of surgery I have is a very very minor one for a mole removal, however when that happened literally everything that could go wrong did go wrong. At first I bled way more than expected and they had to send someone out rushing around looking for a cauteriser whilst I lay on the bed and they kept asking "do you feel faint". Then the wound became infected and partially re-opened and it took me like 3 months to heal properly, it was a total nightmare! It makes me worry that I'm a crappy, slow healer who is prone to infection... I am having additional scans for a *** fibroid which is low down and may mean the same - elective section. I'll pray for both of us that we get a vaginal birth! Thank you so much for your kind words. I did go in in the end and I feel much better. Baby Errol's heartbeat was strong as always and the midwife was so kind and told me what you were saying - that some babies are just very chilled out and they are all different. It made me feel better to think that my little boy is so chilled unlike his mother!

@AnxiousLady1 thank you for your reassurance also - I do know these things but it's really good to hear them. This transition time, after the 20 week scan and before regular movements develop - is a nightmare!

MOGMOGMOG85 · 03/08/2020 19:58

Thanks @Whiffle77, I guess I better get on that form soon. I swear this forum is so vital to me I have literally no idea what I'm doing, feel like I'm flying by the seat of my pants!!! xxx

tmc14 · 03/08/2020 20:36

@whiffle77 @MOGMOGMOG85 Thank you. I had this overwhelming, unfounded feeling that I would have a placenta issue. I think the combination of a slightly high reading at my 20 week scan, a smaller bump and less movements than with my son just got me quite paranoid about it. So pleased I was completely wrong. Shows what a bast**d anxiety can be in making you think bad things will happen.

@MOGMOGMOG85 That sounds awful! For what should have been such a minor procedure. I think I'm the same, I've just never had another operation (I've been very lucky) apart from my first birth, so I'm just really scared of it. But what will happen will happen. My worst case (presuming me and baby are ok) I think would still be a failed induction followed by section, so this new situation isn't actually that bad, as at least it would be planned. But yes, keeping everything crossed for us both that we get a vaginal birth.

Brave enough to update my weeks now...

@MOGMOGMOG85 also really pleased you went to hear the heartbeat! Lovely. So worth doing, like you all told me yesterday!! Haha.

Knotemma · 03/08/2020 21:28

@MOGMOGMOG85 glad you got checked out and got to hear the heartbeat, movement, especially earlier on is so difficult to work out. We've got from big obvious kicks down low when Goblin was still transverse, to just weird light movements and a lot of pressure on my ribs at the right side because of my high anterior placenta. I still feel lots of movement, but it's way more muffled now ( can't think of a better way to describe it) I had to ring the midwife to ask for my MATB1 and exemption certificate because they forgot to give them to me at my appointment, so it's probably worth giving the non emergency number a call to chase it! Especially with your employer being so supportive 😠

SunStruck · 04/08/2020 06:30

Hi ladies,

How are we all today? 32 weeks today, can officially say "I'm 8 weeks pregnant" when people ask how far along I am! 😳 a year ago I wouldn't have dreamed I would be here one year later (after 2 losses at the age of 36), so all you new ladies just hang in there ☺️ it is an anxious time but I think I can see the final stretch!

@Whiffle77 hey how are you doing? 😄 ive been busy with work do dipping in and out, unfortunately the thread is moving too fast for me sometimes! Sorry if I've missed anything! Hope you're feeling fine ❤️

@Avocuddles how's my near due date twin? I feel quite breathless at times and can't eat as much as before as there's no space (get sooo uncomfortable if I eat a big meal). It's difficult for me to l break the pattern of eating a normal sized meal (I love eating) though so I constantly feel full 😅

When are you ladies going on mat leave? I have asked to work until I pop basically (working from home). I live abroad and our mat leave is only 3 months' paid for so I need to save as much as I can. I'm taking 2 months unpaid leave and then using all my saved annual leave so I'll be on mat leave for 6 months (which is really long here). What about you guys?

Oh and a bump pic update as I haven't done it for a while... it is getting increasingly harder to tie my own shoelaces 😅

SunStruck · 04/08/2020 06:32

Sorry baby brain, I meant "8 months pregnant" of course 🙄

SammiLou2312 · 04/08/2020 07:34

@SunStruck beautiful bump pic! I am technically on 2 weeks holiday at the moment (started yesterday) before I go on maternity leave but I have a really good maternity offering through work so will be off for about 10-12 months. Feels so strange being off work though lol. Keep wanting to do loads around the house but have zero energy to do anything.

@tmc14 and @MOGMOGMOG85 glad you both got some reassurance 😊

I'm also struggling to sleep properly (not helped by the heat). Feels like even when I am sleeping I'm on high alert so slightest sound wakes me up. Guess it's my bodies way if getting ready for baby to be here. Think my biggest issue ATM though (tmi warning in advance) is blooming constipation made worse by iron tablets I've had to be put on...only been able to go to loo once every 3/4 days is torture! Going to speak to midwife tomorrow about it to see if there is anything I can do to ease it as a lot of my go to solutions are no good with diabetes 😔 other than that everything is great though, baby girl feels like she is trying to break out through side of my belly last couple of days as her movements are so strong 🥰 hope you are all doing well x

Knotemma · 04/08/2020 07:35

@SunStruck you look fab! Look at you in the gym... I struggled to hobble round our usual walk last night with my parents! I've given up on shoes, I just live in walking sandals now, velcro has definitely made my life easier 😂. I totally get you on the big meals thing... But I also still want to eat all the food!

SunStruck · 04/08/2020 08:39

@Knotemma @SammiLou2312 thanks ladies!! I have to go to the gym because I'm working from home and it's 45c where we live so can't go out for walks! My lower back is killing me as I'm just sitting down all day so need to do something 😅

@SammiLou2312 I feel for you about constipation, I've got the same and the Dr prescribed me probiotic pills. Really helps! I would ask for that as it's natural and good for you. I'm also on iron tablets 😴 Amazing being off work already! I'm also really tired, I usually need an afternoon nap.. thank god for WFH ☺️

Knotemma · 04/08/2020 08:54

@SammiLou2312 have you tried fibogel? It's just ispagula husk with a flavour in so I would imagine it's safe from the gd perspective. I find one on a night if I've been a bit inconsistent helps a lot. I have IBS and find that it's gentle enough to get things moving without causing me a problem 😂.

@SunStruck I can't imagine being in 45 degrees right now...I've been too hot since February 😂. I definitely don't blame you for taking advantage of the gym Aircon while you exercise!

I got an email the other day letting me know that my aerial classes are restating, however with 7 weeks left to go I think that it would be a mistake to go back, as much as I'd love to!

Quick update to let you know my cousin had her little girl yesterday morning after 3 long days in labor bless her! Both are doing really well though, River was 6lb 13 which is a very respectable weight for 37 weeks!

Shefliesonherownwings · 04/08/2020 09:48

Hi all, hope everyone is ok today. I am roasting already and it's set to hit the 30s later this week Confused.

@MOGMOGMOG85 when I was pregnant with Isla last year, i had an anterior placenta and it was ages before I felt 'proper' movements. I rememeber going to my 25 week appointment and the midwife asking about movements and I had to say I wasn't sure if I was feeling anything or it was gas. She said that was all quite normal and by 28 weeks I was definitely feeling her. I also got my MATB1 form at that 25 week appointment so you will probably get yours then but ring up and check if you're not sure.

Speaking of 25 week appointments I was meant to go for mine on Friday except nobody told me so I had a missed call from the midwife on Friday asking if I was ok because I hadn't turned up! The hospital care we've gotten has been excellent by my god their admin side are terrible. I've either had no letters or the same letters sent through about three times. Anyway i'm going in tomorrow for that appointment. It will be my first actual in person midwife appointment as all the others have been over the phone.

@SammiLou2312 if you are struggling with constipation I second Fibogel, I used it after I gave birth last year as I ended up very constipated. DH also made me smoothies with loads of berries, almond milk and a ton of prunes which helped. I also used Lactulose in the early weeks of pregnancy last time as it's safe to use and that definitely, ahem, got me going. I'm sure you already are, but try really ramping up the fibre in your food. Lots of fruit (berries and apples), vegetables, wholegrains, lentils, dried fruit as well. Chia seeds are good, I add them to my porridge or cereal.

SammiLou2312 · 04/08/2020 10:02

@SunStruck, @Knotemma and @Shefliesonherownwings thanks for the advice. I will speak to midwife tomorrow to see if any are options I can try. Smoothies aren't really an option unfortunately due to the gestational diabetes...I have been eating a few pears every day but have to be careful with how much fruit I have due to the diabetes too lol! I will speak to midwife about fibrogel / lactulose - I have used both in the past when I've been on meds that have caused it but was worried about the sugar content...fingers crossed she can suggest something...worst case, it should only be for the next 6 weeks or so at least x

JuniperAndRose · 04/08/2020 10:26

@tmc14 @MOGMOGMOG85 glad you both got seen and were reassured! It's so easy to worry about being a nuisance but it's always worth checking.

@SunStruck that's a lovely bump picture :-)

I have had a week of ups and downs. The ups - the scan last Monday was really nice! DH had to wait outside, but I saw a consultant who knows my history and was very kind. We made a video for DH and found out the sex (a girl!). I'm sure my cat knows something is up because when I was lying on the bed the morning of the scan he came and sat on my knee and put his paws around my bump like a hug and purred really loudly!

Then after the big high of a positive scan I think I just had an emotional crash. We told our parents, which sort of makes it feel more real (and more scary). DH's parents are really lovely and supportive, but mine have struggled to be supportive after our losses of both of our daughters. After dd2's 12 week scan (where it was clear that she was very sick) they both behaved appallingly (came over to our house uninvited, my mum told me she didn't need to ask how I was feeling, and my dad yelled at me to shut up), and I told them that I did not want to see them until they changed their behaviour and were more supportive. They haven't changed anything and seem determined to just carry on as normal. I think that their ideal would be to make polite chit chat over a cup of tea, talk about the weather, and never mention either of my DDs ever again. Now that we have told them I am pregnant they have both sent polite messages saying how happy they are, but haven't asked anything about how we are doing. My MIL has been great, she was super delighted, and has sent me a message saying that she is here for anything that I want to talk about. I just feel that it wouldn't take much for my parents to do the same.

I've also dug out some maternity clothes and ordered some new ones in anticipation of more warm weather at the weekend! Every time I do something pregnancy or baby related I just feel like I am tempting fate in some way. I know it's ridiculous.

Sorry for the essay! I hope you are all doing ok in the heat x

Knotemma · 04/08/2020 11:13

@JuniperAndRose the telling people part is so difficult, especially when you know the reaction is going to be a hard one.
My MIL (who is awesome) gets very excited every time we tell her we're pregnant, which has been hard in the past but she means well. My parents are very much in the keep calm and follow my lead camp. I know that they're desperately excited to be grandparents, but early on we only talked about pregnancy on my terms. I couldn't cope with talking about a baby, I talked about the pregnancy. Now that I'm a lot more relaxed and out rainbow is nearly here that has changed quite a lot and they are a lot more open about how they're feeling etc.

I'm sorry to hear that your parents have been difficult. I know that there's an emotional toll on them too, but you're the one who needs and deserves the support right now.

Over the moon that your scan went well, congratulations on your baby girl, it's lovely news!

AnxiousLady1 · 04/08/2020 11:38

@Knotemma Another one here that was very much in the "pregnancy" camp discussions rather than "baby" discussions until recent weeks. I still have that fear of "tempting fate" every time I buy something or allow myself to think positively. But for the sake of this baby I'm trying to be excited for them and embrace things as much as I can. I feel I owe that to them. My poor mum has had to very much reign in all of her excitement and be guided by how I am. I'm lucky in that my SIL is due her first around same time, which takes any heat from the MIL off me. But that in itself comes with it's own stresses as throughout I've felt mental pressure of "what if something goes wrong with ours".

footprintsintheslow · 04/08/2020 16:19

I've decided to let myself get excited today. I was contacted by the recurrent miscarriage clinic a few days ago and they got me in to see a new consultant at a different hospital. She was wonderful and really anything could've been better than my last one.

Anyway she said she'd take over my care and to cancel my other appointments with the other one. She even went over the post mortem with me for my daughter as I was still in the dark about aspects.

She asked if I knew that I had missing blood results and of course I didn't know. So she's repeated those for me. I already feel listened to and looked after. She has photos up of all 'her' babies which gives the impression she actually cares. My other consultant obviously didn't care less.

My other exciting news is that I'll be giving birth in a brand new hospital that is still being built. I'm actually excited now.

AnxiousLady1 · 04/08/2020 19:01

@footprintsintheslow That's brilliant that you have been moved to a much better consultant. It will make so much difference to how you feel throughout this pregnancy I'd imagine. To have someone who really does seem to be invested in their patients, as this consultant seems to be. Great that you are allowing yourself to feel excited. And the new hospital sounds like a decent added bonus. Xx

Avocuddles · 04/08/2020 20:36

Evening all!

@footprintsintheslow so glad you're feeling so much more positive. Your new consultant sounds great, as does the prospect of being in a brand new hospital.

@Knotemma I still really struggle to comprehend that we might be bringing a baby home quite soon, I have to keep repeating the 'today I'm pregnant' mantra even though I'm now 32 weeks!

@JuniperAndRose am so glad your scan went well and was a positive experience. My parents are of the 'polite chit chat over a cup of tea' variety too when it comes to my pregnancy losses though nowhere the extent of yours. Im the case of my mum and dad I don't think it's that they don't care, just that it's not something they themselves ever experienced and they don't really know what to say. I think they're excited by the thought of the baby but not super gushing over it, possibly because they can see that I myself am also pretty nervous about everything. I hope your parents start to show you a little more empathy and can start to share in your happy news.
It's not ridiculous to think you're tempting fate, I feel that way every day and whilst part of me loves seeing the nursery now set up in our spare room, another part of me feels very nervous each time I go in there. I'm also not comfortable committing to a name for our daughter yet as again feel like it's somehow tempting fate to do so even though I know that ultimately it makes no difference!

@Shefliesonherownwings I hope your appointment tomorrow goes well, rubbish admin seems to be a very standard nhs thing!

@SunStruck thanks for asking after me! Your bump looks gorgeous, we really are in a very similar camp as I'm also here after 2 losses at the age of 36. I'm ok thanks, eating little and often seems to be the way forward to avoid the chronic chest pains and relieve the discomfort. I'm only short (just over five foot) which the midwife reckons really isn't helping my symptoms - everything is squashed up in my short torso, it's a delight when the baby is pushing on both your stomach and bladder at the same time!
Re mat leave I'm taking 9 months then my husband is taking 3 months. My maternity package isn't too bad, I get paid relatively well for the first 6 months then statutory pay for the other 3. I'm finishing work at 38 weeks so 5 and a half weeks to go.....

@SammiLou2312 so exciting that you're on mat leave now! I'm also struggling with sleep but my issues are generally bladder based - I seem to need a wee every 90 minutes in the night without fail. Your constipation issues sound awful, touch wood it's something I've never experienced, I hope your midwife can suggest something that will help out.

Updating my weeks again....

@SammiLou2312 I feel your pain re the iron tablets and gd. I have lactulose prescribes, but I’ve only used it twice as it was a bit too effective! I’m down for 2 doses a day but not risking that!

Knotemma · 05/08/2020 08:22

Another week gone and the final countdown at work, 8 days left! Can't believe how quickly time is moving still.

I had a very pregnant afternoon yesterday, baby was properly head down and uncomfortable and I had a proper waddle going! I went out for tea with my mum and one of her friends though and it was lovely, we did eat out to help out at a local pub, everything was very well organized and felt very safe. It was good to do something more "normal" again.

Feeling very agitated this morning though, just wound up and no clue why. The cat is driving me insane, which also doesn't help. She's been screeching since half 7, but doesn't want attention.... So she can bloody stay downstairs out of my way 😂

Another week for me too! And one week off viability which feels so so huge. I can't believe it. Baby has become so wriggly this week, I've dared to make an appointment to go and look at prams so will start buying things soon too.

Can't believe you are nearly on mat leave @knotemma, so close! Im counting down mine now I have agreed a date. @littlegoth not far for you at all, 5 weeks will fly!

We've also been trying to go out for dinner a lot, as we will miss that a lot once baby comes. We are just back from a short break to which did us the world of good.

Sorry about your parents @JuniperAndRose that must be upsetting. My parents seem to be completely uninterested in my pregnancy which has surprised me a lot. At first my DH thought it was because they were being cautious for me, but this far on im not sure what it is. I'm trying not to think about it too much but hope things improve once baby is here.

Great bump pic @sunstruck not long for you to go either! Can't believe we are getting close to actual babies appearing on this thread, amazing.

Updating my weeks. Spent last night getting checked out for braxton hicks that were every 10 minutes and pelvic pressure/back pain. Thankfully all seems OK. Little bit anxious and worn out today though.

@Knotemma I finish next Friday too. Can’t wait, I’m huge and tired 😄

@Treaclepie19 I was in yesterday for reduced movement, as soon as they hooked to to the monitor he started having a dance party in my tummy! Almost there. Got a feeling these will be stressful weeks so looking forward to some downtime and a bit of mindfulness.

@Whiffle77 another milestone coming up, congratulations x
