Wow EJB what a story! No waiting, quick labour, everything smooth what wonderful news! Welcome to this world, Joel! Can't believe it's really happening and we are really having babies after so much worries.

Hi to everybody who joined and had positive scans. It's so nice that we have women in alll stages of pregnancy here!

Hello everyone.

I haven't posted for AGES but am delighted to see all the news of safe arrivals, good scans and new joiners to the thread. I note that I am now one 0f the old timers on the thread which is an odd (but good) feeling. Now 24 weeks. Had excellent anomoly scan at 22 weeks although there were two problems unrelated to the baby:-

  1. Baby still had its legs crossed so we STILL don't know what it is
  2. I have been diagnosed with a rare placenta problem which means that going into labour if not in hospital already is potentially fatal for the baby (and me).

I have another scan at 32 weeks with Professor Nicolaides at the Fetal Medicine Centre and, if the problem remaisn (there is a small chance it might resolve itself) then I will have to have a c-section at c35 weeks and possibly be hospitalised for the 2/3 weeks before.

As you can imagine I am slightly gloomy at the propsect of Xmas in hospital........

Janus · 11/10/2007 11:51

Ejb, fantastic news and welcome to little Joel, hope you are all well.
Hi Ronshar, have you decided not to ask for a scan? You could always ask and just see what they say? However, feeling positive is probably much better, note to self, must feel positive at all times !
Victor, spending Xmas in hospital it not a great prospect, sorry you have to face that. BUT, if it would help you worry less (and of course prevent anything horrific happening) then it has to be worth and just think of next year, Christmas with your little one! That should keep you going!
Hope everyone else is healthy and well.

daisyandbabybootoo · 11/10/2007 11:54

Well Done ejb, what a fab birth story, and a lovely name.

See you over on the success after MC thread

congratualtions

hi to all the newbies and I hope everyone is well.

Glimmer · 11/10/2007 11:55

Hi VV -- good to hear from you and sorry for the distress the complications cause you. Obviously, it's not ideal to have to go to the hospital over the holidays but what a blessing that it was diagnosed, so that it can be dealt with. It seems you are in good hands. To which hospital will you go? Obviously we hold our thumbs that it will resolve itself and it won't be necessray, but hey, whatever it takes to get the LO out there healthy and well will do!

flosspot · 11/10/2007 12:14

That sucks the big one VV- but surely better to be safe than sorry, and am confident that it will all be worth it for the result. Just make sure that nice Mr Nikolaides-from-the-telly sorts you out with t'interweb!!!!

And many congrats EJB.....I so want your delivery!!!

HAving sucky day- woke up with a cold, which does nothing for nausea, and DH shouted at me and hung up the phone. I'm now sulking and- irrational I know- worrying am going to lose pip (variation on the 'bean' theme...he/she/they not big enought to be bean yet!)

VictorVictoria · 11/10/2007 12:20

I feel extremely lucky tbat it was diagnosed and just hope that had I been less fortunate and able to go to the Fetal Medicine Centre for scans, it would have been diagnosed anyway.

Its really scary - some of the blood vessels from the umbilical coer are outside the umbilical cord and running over my cervix. If I go into labour then the blood vessels burst, the baby (and I) heammorage (spelling?) and the baby almost certainly dies if I am not in hospital. Hence they need to do a csection as soon as they think the baby can come out relatively safely.

I will be in St Mary's Paddington, in the Lindo Wing (upside is that BUPA will pay!)

feedmenow · 11/10/2007 12:57

Oh, Victor, what a shame. But as the others have said, if it is for the sake of a healthy mum and babe, then so be it. But I wonder, if it came down to being hospitalised I assume it would be from a "she needs to rest and not exert herself" point of view, maybe you would be allowed home for christmas day itself? Just a thought, but hopefully the problem will resolve itself and you won't need to worry anyway!
Mind you, maybe it would be nice to be able to truly relax on Christmas day and not have to worry about a single thing

spugs · 11/10/2007 13:11

EJB - congrats on the safe arrival of your little one

VV - sorry to hear about the stay in hospital, but as long as you and bubs are ok.

ronshar · 11/10/2007 14:15

Sorry to drag down such a positive morning but I am slopping back to MC thread.
I have been bleeding red blood all day so far.
EPU wont scan until 6 weeks so at least that answers my question.
If by some miracle this isnt another MC then I shall be back soon.

Thank you all for a lovely welcome though.

flosspot · 11/10/2007 14:34

Ronshar- keeping everything crossed and sending you big hugs.

ronshar · 11/10/2007 14:38

Thankyou Floss. Sorry to haunt you in every thread.

daisyandbabybootoo · 11/10/2007 16:22

VV sorry i didn't comment on your post earlier...i just posted my congrats to ejb without reading anything else

sorry to hear about your impending hospital stay, but its good that they caught it so know what's going on. to think that in Scotland you don't get a 20 wk scan

fingers crossed though that it resolves itself before 32 weeks.

daisyandbabybootoo · 11/10/2007 16:23

ronshar....sorry to hear this

MrsMcJnr · 11/10/2007 16:43

VV ? old timer indeed so pleased baby is fine, that must have made you ecstatic. It clearly wants to surprise you with its sex. That placenta thing sounds scary ? it?s not called placenta ac-something is it?! That must be a real shock for you hon, everything crossed that it rectifies itself. Try not to think about Christmas in hospital, if it?s a planned C-section, they?ll be able to time it for you xx From your description, I think a mother on Special Delivery had exactly the issue you have ? she and her baby were fine but she did have a section as soon as her contractions started, luckily, she was in hospital when that happened.

Huge hugs for you Flosspot x

Ronshar ? no hon! hoping and praying that it is not a MC and just something that has happened. There are lots of ladies who?ve bleed heavily throughout ? Greedy for one and she is now a week overdue (or not ? we haven?t heard from her today ) Stay strong and rest xxxx

positive · 11/10/2007 17:36

hi everyone,

sorry havent been around for a few days, just had a quick skim over all the news will read it properly when I get time.

ejb congrats,
ellieg and missworry, glad that your scans went well, its so good to see lo.
everyone else, hi, hope you are all keeping well.

good vibes and positive thoughts

Glimmer · 11/10/2007 17:53

Ronshar -- I have been bleeding a lot in early pregnancy, too. The blood was bright red and there all day, but only in small quantities. I hope you are wrong and little bean will hang on. I bled for three solid weeks. MrsMcJ will remeber, because we met on the limbo thread....

ladylush · 11/10/2007 21:58

Ronshar - really feel for you but it's a good sign if you're not feeling pain. Usually it is bleeding and pain that is a greater concern. Is there another epu you could travel to? Have you looked at the epu website - gives addresses of hospitals who have a dept. Some will accept self-referrals. Where do you live?

ronshar · 11/10/2007 22:17

Thank you ladies.
All the support and good vibes has made me cry more again.
I'm not sure what is going on really. I havent passed anything other than red blood. There has been a few tiny bits of the usual AF stuff.
I have been feeling very sorry for myself this evening. Even DH asked me what wrong!!! Very perceptive of him!
I was going to ask if any one on here had lots of bleeding that didnt turn out to be MC?
My last MC in March was just very light bleeding for a week followed by scan and ERPC. So no real idea if this is the beginning.

ronshar · 11/10/2007 22:18

Ladylush I live in West sussex. My local hospital is normally pretty good. The nurse wasnt being unkind just realistic. She did say if I make it to 6 weeks then GP will arrange scan.

ladylush · 11/10/2007 22:54

Damn, was going to suggest Kings College in Denmark Hill Camberwell (South London)but it will be a trek for you. They have a walk-in epu mon-fri (you don't need an appt.)and if you get there at 8.30 you will defo be seen and I have never had to beg to be scanned. St. Thomas's,SE1 also have one which is open longer hours but I think you have to ring for an appt. Might be easier for you to get there by train? Is Brighton likely to have something?

I know everyone views these things differently. For me, it was important to be scanned asap so that I knew what I was dealing with. Other women prefer to wait it out (what will be will be etc.). Do what feels best. By the way, lots of women bring their kids along to the epu - I took ds with me twice.

Really hoping everything is ok. Dunno if it's reassuring to say (or bloody annoying) but Kerry Katona had a big bleed to the point where she announced a m/c, then found baby was ok. She is the most recent example I could think of. Apologies if that's a highly irritating example. Maybe Mrs McJnr's one was better
