Hi all!

We're doing well, Chester weighed 4lb 9oz and was delivered via c section due to my brain tumour and then went to SBCU for a little over two days.

He's doing well, not taking a full feed just yet and unfortunately he failed his hearing test but they said this is common with premature c section babies and they usually pass after a few days!

I hope you're all well and I hope your little ones are doing well too, motherhood is the most amazing feeling ever 💙

squashie34 · 10/07/2020 09:33

@BabyG08 great news for you!! ☺️😁

I emailed my hospital's maternity department at UHCW again today and got the response that still no visiting for postnatal wards and that it is 'in line with other trusts in the area' not sure how when Warwick hospital down the road is allowing postnatal visitors.

I just can't understand how it's allowed in some places and not others. I need to stop thinking about it because it's getting me worked up 🙄

BabyG08 · 10/07/2020 09:49

@squashie34 fingers crossed that the guidance in your hospital changes before you’re little one comes! 🤞 It is so frustrating isn’t it. When are you due?

Firstmummytobe · 10/07/2020 09:59

I really hope the guidance changes at my hospital in the next 3 days because that’s all I have left😂🙃
I’m 37 weeks today and I can finally say my baby boy is full term!! Counting down the days until Monday I’m more than excited to hold him in my arms💙

Hope everybody has a lovely weekend!!! Xx

WeeScottishWife · 10/07/2020 10:25

It looks like my trust are now allowing partners there for the duration of labour. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though because the wording isn't super clear, but their info page was updated on Wednesday and as far as I can tell that's the bit that changed. 🤞🏻

Superscientist · 10/07/2020 11:35

My trust has just announced that they ar reinstating postnatal midwife visits.
They have 8-8 visiting on the wards for birth partners only but still only for active labour outside of these visiting times.
It looks like restrictions are starting to be lifted.

Flutterbunny · 10/07/2020 12:31

@Chez2306 - Just catching up with this, congratulations, he is adorable!

I just wanted to see if anyone else is still “working” and how they are feeling? I have 11 working days to go and my productivity levels are at 0. I literally just spend hours staring at my screen doing nothing - I feel knackered and I keep getting distracted by baby websites Hmm
Maternity Leave really can’t come soon enough for me!

Superscientist · 10/07/2020 12:43

I have another 4 weeks before mat leave (starting at 39 weeks). My productivity is mixed. Morning I'm quite nauseous and dizzy so keep having to have a lie down (idleness probably contributes!). Some days I end up taking long lunch breaks, I'm generally more productive in the afternoons which has always been typical for me. I find it hard to know where the line is between pregnancy symptoms (I get uncomfortable too and that results in staring at my screen) and general malaise/idleness without throwing in lockdown fatigue into the mix too.

Is there a time of day that you are more likely to be productive? Could you set yourself some small work goals for that time?

Flutterbunny · 10/07/2020 12:53

@Superscientist - Oh wow you are a trooper - I wish I could have held out until 39 weeks so I could take longer off with baby but I know that would have been a real stretch for me! I’m going at 36 weeks!!

You’re right though, it’s hard to know where the pregnancy symptoms stop and the general fatigue/idleness starts!

Like you, I’m more productive in the afternoon so I’ll try to re-jig my working day so I can focus at those times.
It doesn’t help that I’ve lost all of my ‘get up and go’ - I’ve always been so career minded but as soon as I got pregnant that went out the window and now I just can’t wait to be a full-time mum for abit!
I’m sure that may all go out the window once the little one is a few months old though Grin

ml01omm · 10/07/2020 13:16

Those of you in England whose Trusts have opened up visiting/Partner stays again ( so pleased for you!). Did you get notification? or is this via your own stalking of the hospital websites etc?

Superscientist · 10/07/2020 13:24

@Flutterbunny I'm not very good with time on my hands! Work is good for my mental health so I'm trying to keep going as long as a can whilst leaving some time for baby prep. I have annual leave I can take if I don't make it to 39 weeks.

My nct course leader is a midwife at my hospital so she updated our group with the new visitation rules and shared a new Facebook page the maternity department has set up for updates. Updates on that page get shared on our mums nct group by whoever sees it first.

heroineinahalfshell · 10/07/2020 14:56

I'm also working til 39 weeks so still have 20 days to go --- I'm doing it to have more time with the baby but this week has been such a struggle, i can't focus on anything and I've made no progress with my to-do list at all. I've also got an assignment for a professional qualification due before I go off, and I haven't even started it! I don't know how to motivate myself and am so close to saying "f it" and just using my annual leave to go off now. I won't though as there are some critical pieces of work due over the next 3 weeks and noone else to do them.

Has anyone else had a return of painful breasts? I keep getting sharp pains down the sides of my breasts, I'm guessing it's colostrum coming in?

MamaFirst · 10/07/2020 14:57

So exciting to hear restrictions are beginning to be lifted! Most of us I think have a month + to go yet, so maybe by the big day things will be returning to normal 🤞 I'm also interested how we find this out though? Maybe our widwife will let us know nearer to the time?

So I'm wondering about cravings. Are you ladies having much in the way of cravings?

JMill13 · 10/07/2020 15:40

I've still about 5 weeks left of work, thought I'd work as long as possible especially as I've been WFH since March it's kind of easier to keep going, so finishing up at 39 weeks, officially anyway. Only have 12 days left of Annual leave ( we only get 17 days total a year plus all the bank hols) but I used a holiday today, and then it's Bank Holiday Monday & Tuesday here at the start of the week so hoping to get some much needed house things sorted over the long weekend. Finally bit the bullet & ordered a cot last night so hopefully I've not chosen something awful.

@mamafirst I found out about our restrictions being lifted here by following a local MP on Facebook, he updated his status once the NI exec had met and changed the rules.. If you keep an eye on your local hospital, MPs or the government site you should find be kept updated. I've been craving milkybar chocolate recently, so weird. But cereal&milk, Fanta lemon and ice lollies/slushies/fruity ice cold drinks from the very beginning, what about you?

Superscientist · 10/07/2020 15:49

@heroineinahalfshell we must be due around the same time. I'm due on the 17th, last working day is the 7th due to weekend so I'm technically 38+4 on my last day.

I have been wfh too since March, we were just starting to think about buying a second car so I could drive to the train station - oh wasn't happy with the idea of me cycling much longer and it's a 25 minute walk otherwise and that didnt sound appealing as I got further along!

I've not had many cravings. I did keep fancing really dirty food - anything you would chose at 3 am after a good night sort of thing. So I bought a frozen pizza that would suffice and have had the urge since. Ah well!

cannotmakemymindup · 10/07/2020 15:58

@MamaFirst I definitely get cravings still. Sometimes unhealthy like KFC or other times certain flavours. Or even meat. Spicy food is a winner this whole pregnancy! I love my cravings. Grin

I’ve just had an update from my MSP who has spoken with the head of midwifery for my hospital. They are not defining “active labour” as 4-5cm dilated & birthing partners are allowed to attend when you are contracting regularly which was the norm for our area! Birthing partners still have to leave when transferred to the ward but are able to attend at visiting (again this is normal). So basically our area seems to have gone back to normal with all of this! So happy to hear that. I suggest speaking with your MPs ladies for any information, mines has been great!

heroineinahalfshell · 10/07/2020 16:15

@Superscientist ah yes my due date is the 15th, my last day is also the 7th when I'll be 38+6. Then I'm taking 5 days AL and mat leave starts on the 17th - which I wasn't sure they'd allow but they were fine with.

I haven't had any cravings at all except milk and oranges/orange juice! Definitely haven't taken advantage of the excuse for all my unhealthy loves like KFC/bags of crisps the size of my head, lol. I've missed out!

mable88 · 10/07/2020 17:50

Oh congratulations @Chez2306 what an absolutely gorgeous little bundle!

Just did my first perineal massage... Confused I am worried about labour a lot now because I found it horrendous - it must be a lot worse when there’s a baby coming ou!! And also very difficult to do, there’s too much bump in the way!!! Envy

Camia · 10/07/2020 21:35

Well it's looking like we might not have an August baby after all. Doctor today, baby boy is engaged and I'm 1.5cm dilated and 80% effaced. Having a huge amount of Braxton-Hicks and a lot of pressure low down. Doctor says I could easily go in a week or so (though of course no guarantee)

It feels so real now 😬

MamaFirst · 10/07/2020 22:01

I've craved fruit mostly! I definitely have a sweet tooth, so chocolate is a given. The ice lolly craving makes a lot of sense to me though, yum.

@camia oooo that's exciting, how many weeks are you? With my first it took me about five days of slow contractions and dilating before my waters broke, then it quickly became painful! Keeping everything crossed for you. Keep us posted!

Beau2020 · 10/07/2020 22:07

Oh my goodness @Camia how exciting for you!!!

StephD2020 · 10/07/2020 22:36

Just catching up over here - aw @Chez2306 congratulations!! He is absolutely delightful! Great name too 🥰

@superscientist I'm working up to 4 days before my due date so like you, whilst I'm very career minded normally I really just feel like I'm counting down the days right now!

Ah @camia that's so exciting! My little lady is so high up I don't think she's gonna start attempting to make an appearance until Christmas at this rate! 😱 so looking forward to being able to breath again without heartburn in a few weeks! X

Camia · 10/07/2020 23:44

@MamaFirst I'm 36 going off of my August due date. We found out a few weeks back that the place I went originally that dated me has a history of incorrectly pushing people back 1-2 weeks and baby has been measuring big so they're saying I could be more like 37, but who knows.

@Beau2020 We're really excited. And the nerves are hitting (for me at least) but I also just want something to happen and to get him here

@StephD2020 Hopefully soon! The breathing has been nicer since he dropped lol. Though he's got long legs and can still get at my ribs some

Rachyrach1930 · 11/07/2020 08:08

@Chez2306 awww he is gorgeous 😍 congratulations

Not much longer, I had my appointment with my consultant and the plan is for an induction on the 30th July, eek eek. Really feels real now and starting to panic as only few weeks left.. seemed like the longest pregnancy ever, now feels like its going so fast.
Good luck to everyone on their journey.
