@newmama29 have been having this issue myself. I've seen a few really nice ones on Silkfred though, so maybe worth a look. So much flowers on maternity wear everywhere and I hate it, a lot of it reminds me of summer wedding guest which is a bit meh. A lot of dresses I've ordered have been really unflattering as well. Tempted to look into starting a business solely for maternity wear that's modelled by actual pregnant people instead of foam bumps stuck on models.

Newmama29 · 08/07/2020 23:18

@JMill13 funnily enough I have just ordered a few from silk Fred just now lol! I’ve also had a look at SHEIN, the quality isn’t amazing but I have a few dresses from there that have been really flattering & cute! I’m with you on the maternity wear. I find it very “mumsy”, I know we’re gonna be mums but I’m only 25 & still want to dress like that to a certain extent 🙈 I hate flowery/flowy things & find that most maternity wear is that or just plain maxi/midi dresses!

KittyKat2020 · 09/07/2020 00:04

@squashie34 I’m okay to be honest, a bit concerned when she gave me all the facts and figures of stuff that could go wrong but I know that’s worst case scenario. Frightening but I’ve just got to get my head round it all, I’m worried about the recovery too

@KittyKat2020

Saw the midwife today and as the little terror is still breech I’m booked in for a cesarian on 12th August. So that’s my birth plan out the window, time to re pack and re write lol
@kittykat2020

How many weeks are you?

We had a private scan done on Tuesday night.

I'm 33 weeks and she's turned breech.
DD 22/08/2020

Should I be worried? I've started to do some
Leaning forward inversions etc xx

Have you done all this?

JMill13 · 09/07/2020 08:15

@newmama29 ooh I never thought of Shein. Have never ordered from them so didn't even know they did maternity wear, is there delivery times okay? With you on the mumsie thing. I'm only 30 so not ready to make that leap just yet either. I'm more grungy/rocky than flowery and frilly so I wouldn't be overly comfortable. Thankfully for the most part my pre-pregnancy clothes still fit, except dresses and jeans so daily life has been easy enough so far.

Newmama29 · 09/07/2020 08:26

@JMill13 their sizes are temperamental but I always read the reviews to see what others buying have said. They deliver in about a week so not super quick but not too long either

Beau2020 · 09/07/2020 08:39

@KittyKat2020 & @Lottie37

Don't be too worried! My baby was breech too and she turned at 33 weeks. I did a video on some positions I was in every single day, which I'm convinced helped her to to turn

Can't believe I'm now in the 9th month and can officially say 9 months pregnant!! Feels like 9 years lol

KittyKat2020 · 09/07/2020 08:45

@Beau2020 not worried about him turning because I know he won’t now. I’m 34 weeks and his too big to fit in my pelvis now it’s just one of those things. His tried I’ve felt him headbutt down there a few times. It is what it is, I’m not going to do the exercises as I just don’t feel the need, what will be will be.

@KittyKat2020 how big is he?

At 33 weeks 3 days my daughter is just touching 5lbs xx

Beau2020 · 09/07/2020 09:49

Ok, no worries it was just a suggestion @KittyKat2020 Smile

nells3 · 09/07/2020 10:02

Good luck to all those having ELCS- it must feel so exciting and strange knowing what day you will meet your baby. I've heard very positive things from people who have had the procedure recently too.

I don't THINK this topic has been covered already- apologies if it has. Is anyone trying perineal massage? I spoke to the midwife about it and she said it makes a big difference and as midwives they can tell if someone has done it or not.

I tried it for the first time yesterday (after a bath, been doing relaxing breathing etc), and I found it vile! I felt like I was going to throw up and was all shaky after! TMI but I think what I found gross about it was actually the feeling on my fingers of having them 'inside' (have never been a fan haha). I've heard of products like the aniball (aniball.uk/), does anyone have any thoughts on this? They are bloomin expensive but I don't think I can cope with the fingers!! Being pregnant is so dignified Grin xx

Beau2020 · 09/07/2020 10:32

@nells3 No way! I might look into this. Aww bless you that I made you feel sick though 😫

Beau2020 · 09/07/2020 10:33

It* not I

squashie34 · 09/07/2020 10:39

@nells3 I started perineal massage at 34 weeks (although I've stopped now I know I'm having a section because who wants to just do that for the fun of it 😳). I found it disgusting too, and also didn't know if I was even doing it right! I was going to buy an Anibal once I found out if I was having a section/vaginal delivery this week and use it from 37 weeks. I haven't read too many reviews that aren't from their website or endorsed, but thought even if it did nothing else it would stop me having to use my fingers 😂

Two friends who have recently given birth have sworn by the perineal massage so I guess the concept does work!

Newmama29 · 09/07/2020 10:42

@nells3 I have bought the expert midwife perineal massage oil to try. I’m only 33 weeks so they say to wait until 34 weeks to do it so I haven’t actually tried it yet. The thought really freaks me out though! My DP has kindly offered so I think I may need to take him up on that cause the thought of doing it myself really bothers me 🙈 however, I am desperate to do it as it really does have a strong success rate with preventing tearing & in the long run that’s got to be worse, right? 🤷🏼‍♀️

squashie34 · 09/07/2020 10:48

@Newmama29 it's an absolute bugger to reach by yourself- especially when you aren't allowed to lie flat down on your back! 😆 I sort of propped my birthing ball up against a wall and sat down with my back leant on it with my knees up and apart in front of the mirror like a smear and took my hand round the side rather than over my bump.

If my partner had walked into that sight I'm pretty sure he would be filing for divorce based on grounds of ptsd 😂 much better to get your OH to do it, I just felt weird about the idea of him doing it.

Oldestchild90s · 09/07/2020 10:49

@nells3 Not going to beat around the bush i got my fiancé to do it 😂 as you can imagine he is loving it more than me.. 🤦🏼‍♀️

It's very uncomfortable and i have read mixed reviews but i thought to myself if it works then great!

nells3 · 09/07/2020 10:55

@squashie34 @Newmama29 haha i'm glad I'm not the only one finding it gross and difficult! LOL at your partner getting PTSD- I locked the door and warned him not to try to come in.

@squashie34 I know what you mean about the reviews for aniball, they all seem to be sponsored or sound kind of fake? I've seen some threads on here about it and people have had positive experiences, I just don't know if I can justify £60 on something that may or may not work and I might struggle to use. My mum had awful tears when she had me, so much so they the midwives wanted her to have a section for her second baby so I think that's worrying me. It's good you don't need to worry about this side of things now you know you're having a section.

Newmama29 · 09/07/2020 10:56

@squashie34 yeah I don’t think I could manage it on my own logistically even if it didn’t bother me lol! I do feel weird about my DP doing it but I’ve figured we’re about to go through the highs & lows of childbirth & new parenthood so might as well get another uncomfortable moment out the way whilst we’re at it lol 😂

KittyKat2020 · 09/07/2020 11:01

@Lottie37 at 34 weeks he is 8 pound so definitely not small

WeeScottishWife · 09/07/2020 11:01

My hospital trust in London (I've moved now) were doing online antenatal classes, and the midwives recommended the Epi-no over the Aniball; they said the Epi-no had been developed slightly differently and had some different features that they felt made it safer & more effective. Something like a pressure gauge, maybe? I've not looked into them so don't know the details of each brand.

squashie34 · 09/07/2020 11:12

@nells3 that sounds nasty, your poor mum! 😨 I think these days there's a lot more known about the 'breathing baby down' once it has crowned and not pushing so I wonder if that decreases the cases of 3rd or 4th degree tearing? You can also write in your birth plan that when baby crowns you would like the midwife to place a warm flannel on your perineum which I think stimulates blood flow there and makes it easier to stretch (think of warming up a muscle we can stretch it further)

Worth considering both of these alongside the perineal massage?

I think the downside to an anibal/epino could be that if you try it and can't inflate the balloon much (it's meant to go to 30cm! 😳) it could really knock your confidence and make you even more nervous.
