@Beau2020 in fact, I was breathing and bending over at the check in desk in the maternity dept and a woman in the queue even said good luck as she thought I was having baby 😆😆

annie1994 · 04/07/2020 10:00

Hello! Was anyone else told they had a low lying placenta at their 20 week scan? I’ve got my 32 week scan on Tuesday and I know most of the time the placenta naturally moves up as your uterus gets bigger but just wondering if anyone had any idea of what happens if it’s still low-lying? I’m guessing a caesarean would be needed Confused. I haven’t had any bleeding at all so hopefully it has moved up!!

So excited to finally see baby again and know how he’s growing Grin my midwife didn’t even do a fundal measurement at 28 weeks so I’m a bit uptight about how he’s growing!!!

Beau2020 · 04/07/2020 10:04

@squashie34 oh my goodness!! That's so scary you ended up on triage. I almost did the same thing myself last night but my mom was like just rest take a bath you'll be fine and turns out she was right!

Mummapenguin20 · 04/07/2020 10:41

@cannotmakemymindup he put on 100g in 3 weeks but they couldnt measure his head this time so im guessing these are inaccurate meassurments. The thought of induction terrifies me ive only ever heard horror stories and i normally labour so well alone. 3 more weeks tho and i could well have a bubba to snuggle x

Firstmummytobe · 04/07/2020 11:17

@Mummapenguin20 what sorts of horror stories??? I’m getting induced in 9 days😩😩😩

Mummapenguin20 · 04/07/2020 11:58

Lovely i dont wanna worry you reading your story your so strong, i have been told if they can start you with a pessary its fine but the drip is one constant contraction 😕 im a natural worrier and just worry it wont work for me and ill end up with a c section anyway witch im dead against having two children at home i wanna be back on my feet asap lol x

Firstmummytobe · 04/07/2020 13:24

@Mummapenguin20 I’m having the 24 hour pessary, and they said the success rate is really good!! But I know there is always a chance for an emergency c-section although I’ve prepared myself for this anyway as I know in his condition he could get really agitated, but I have no choice other than to be induced with how unwell he is. I mean I guess we Just gotta take It how it comes, he’s got to get here some way or another so I’ll just have to deal with it. As long as I can have as much pain relief on offer that is🤣
If he’s anything like his dad he will be an awkward little bugger😂😂😂

To be honest everyone will have different opinions, but as little man will be in hospital for a few weeks and it’s mine and Luke’s annivarsary middle of July, I must say I cannot wait to have a big pink gin after everything I’ve been through the last few months!! This is gonna be an exciting few weeks for all of us😁😁

JMill13 · 04/07/2020 14:42

@firstmummytobe right there with you on the gin. Absolutely dying for one. Seeing everyone's photos over lockdown of their nice drinks has been killer 😂. I had a half a corona a few weeks ago because I was proper craving it and honestly nicest beer I've ever had.

Ladies, my OH's family have to decided to throw me a "not a babyshower" at the end of July. Basically having an afternoon tea style garden party with just his family and mine, no mum-to-be games, sashes etc. just a nice little pre-baby family get together. My question is what the hell do I wear? I'll be 36 weeks by then, so want to look nice but not too over dressed. Been looking online and can't for the life of me find a nice maternity dress, so many of them have ruffles, high necks, are super long (I'm only 5"3), long sleeves etc. The really nice ones aren't maternity but would that work if I went a size or 2 up? Anyone point me in the direction of something nice, please?

Havlerr · 04/07/2020 15:06

@Firstmummytobe what a roller coaster you’ve had! I’m glad you’ve got a solid plan now so that’s great, hope all goes well. How crazy that it’s so soon that you’ll meet your little boy!! I’m a paediatric nurse and previously worked on NICU, he’ll be in safe hands after birth don’t you worry 💕

@JMill13 have you had a look on ASOS and boohoo? Those are my top two recommendations for maternity occasion style dresses. I have a few normal smock type dresses at home that are in a bigger size than I was pre pregnancy but they don’t fit anymore so I wouldn’t risk that! Especially around the boob area unless yours are behaving more than mine - mine don’t seem to stop growing!

The appointments really seem to vary from place to place. I’m in the south west and had my 34 week appointment this week which was face to face - my first face to face one in ages. She also booked my next two appointments (36 weeks and 38 weeks) which are also face to face. Seems ridiculous that others don’t have this!!Shock

Beau2020 · 04/07/2020 15:11

Aww @JMill13 that's a lovely idea! I completely feel you on that. There's no nice maternity clothes anywhere! My OH got one made for me as there's literally nothing nice out there and I must say he did a pretty good job with the outfit, I was so cool and chilled in it but felt nice at the same time

JMill13 · 04/07/2020 15:47

@havlerr asos and Boohoo have been my go too, though so many of the maternity dresses look like they just sewn a set of curtains together and called it a dress. I think it's hard to know what will be nice because of the models wearing fake bumps as well. Hahah thankfully my boobs seem to be behaving I'm still wearing my pre-preg bras though ordered some nursing bras in the same size and they're massive so not sure really what to do on that front.

@beau2020 ooh getting one made is such a lovely idea. I actually bought an oversized Metallica tshirt dress the other week in a size L (I'm a size 8-10) and it's genuinely like a normal every day tshirt on me. Will likely drown me after pregnancy. I now have a business idea for the future at least 😂 never been one for wanting to break into fashion but the lack of decent maternity clothes for anyone thats not a proper girly girl, frilly, summer person is shocking.

WeeScottishWife · 04/07/2020 16:48

@JMill13 they can be more expensive, but have you looked at Jojo Maman Bebe? I'm also 5'3 & I have one long dress that my mum gave me as a present, then I more recently bought a shorter one myself. I'm normally a waist size 10 (sometimes have to get a larger size on top for boob space, but these are very accommodating). & most of their stuff is maternity & nursing in one, so it'll last once the baby arrives too.

Hello ladies! Who else is packing their hospital bag this weekend?! A few of us from my NCT are. Just a question, I know I need to pack maternity pads and breast pads, and bought some packs from Boots, but how many do I actually need to take to hospital?! I’m going to have a huge suitcase at this rate!!

Mummapenguin20 · 04/07/2020 17:17

@MaisieMolly ive packed ten of each hun x

JMill13 · 04/07/2020 17:29

@weescottishwife ooh no never even heard of there if I'm honest. That dress is lovely. I'll go have a wee look see what I can find. Thank you.

squashie34 · 04/07/2020 17:59

@annie1994 I had a low lying placenta at my 20 weeks scan and by 28 weeks it had moved so every chance it could happen!

If it stays the same, you will most likely be offered a Csection!

ASOS have lovely maternity dresses, and also seraphine if you are willing to pay a bit more £££

heroineinahalfshell · 04/07/2020 19:43

Definitely check out Jojo, I've got 2 dresses from there that are maternity/nursing. I also find that a lot of my normal summer stuff (maxi dresses and jumpsuits) still fits because of elasticated/empire waists. So you could see if you have anything in your wardrobe already that fits?

@MaisieMolly I've literally just packed my hospital bag. I put in 20 maternity pads (because I'm a heavy bleeder during my periods so I fully expect post-birth to be carnage), and 6 breast pads (taking 3 bras so 1 set per bra).

heroineinahalfshell · 04/07/2020 19:46

Is anyone planning to use a car seat and just strap it in with a seat belt rather than an isofix base? We got a Maxi Cosi Pebble Pro, which you're supposed to be able to strap, but we've just put it in the car and it doesn't seem safe at all. It doesn't move forward but it does move sideways quite a bit when strapped in. I'm thinking we must have done it wrong but we can't see anything on the instructions. Any ideas?

Newmama29 · 04/07/2020 20:04

@heroineinahalfshell I got the venicci travel system with the car seat & my plan was just to seatbelt it in as I didn’t want to pay £130 for the isofix to only be used 6 months! I haven’t even looked at it in the car yet (it’s all with my mum cause I’m superstitious 😂)

Havlerr · 04/07/2020 20:48

@MaisieMolly I packed one pack of the boots thick maternity pads (10 in one pack I believe) and 3 sets of reusable breast pads. I packed three bras so I figured 3 would be enough.

@heroineinahalfshell we got the isofix as we got the bundle as a bargain but I recall my friends son has a car seat with a belt and it isn’t as sturdy. It’s still perfectly safe of course but isofix really bolts it down. I would definitely make sure you watch some YouTube videos or something first though just because there’s a bigger margin for error with using a seatbelt. Our car seat (cybex Aton I think) has side impact things which open up and make any side impact softer on the car seat so maybe check if you have those also?

MamaFirst · 04/07/2020 21:55

I love the isofix, it does feel safer but its also just sooo convenient just popping them in and out. The bases in my opinion, are safe to buy second hand if you wanted to save paying out for a brand new one. They have a colour coded light on them that would stop working if there was a problem with it.

Firstmummytobe · 04/07/2020 22:22

@Newmama29 which Venicci pram and car seat did you get?
I’ll leave the link below to the one we got which includes the isofix base!

www.pramworld.co.uk/venicci-vento-travel-system-black-chassis-denim-grey

Firstmummytobe · 04/07/2020 22:26

@Newmama29 and also, it is compatible with other car seats so as your baby grows to a toddler and will still need a seat in the car, them car seat can clip Into the isofix too to make it a lot more secure 😊
Obviously everybody has a different opinion but in my opinion using a seatbelt is very dangerous and I would not feel safe with my child being strapped in this way and would highly recommend isofix, but it’s your choice if you feel safe doing so that’s perfectly fine!!

Newmama29 · 04/07/2020 22:36

@Firstmummytobe I got the new tinum, the isofix wasn’t in the package unfortunately 👎🏼 I want to get the joie with the 360 degree isofix base when their around 3-6 months so don’t want to spend the money on the Venicci isofix to replace it so soon! Especially considering how much they might not even be in a car at that stage. Although if I try it all out & feel it’s not stable I’ll buy it & sell it on

Luna321 · 04/07/2020 22:37

We've also got the Venicci travel system here and love it, used it till my son was about 2.5yrs. Also used the carry cot part in the lounge for naps in the day. So planning on doing the same this time. My next job is to get it all out and give it a good clean and check over!
I know they are expensive but I would highly recommend getting an iso fix base for the car seat. It's sooo much more convenient to pop them in and out if the car that way rather than strapping them in each time.
