@ChampooPapi yes I am so grateful to you for all your advice regarding the NIPT all those weeks ago! When I spoke to the midwife on the phone to arrange the consultant appointment she suggested that they don't think it's downs/Edwards/Pataus but could be something else which is why they want to do the amnio. I just feel like any other genetic disorder would be sooooo so rare. I read that downs/Edwards/Pataus add up to 71% of all genetic abnormalities (Down's being the most common at 53%), 12% account for sex chromosome abnormalities and the other 17% is everything else. To have this NIPT which tests for EVERYTHING would cost nearly £2k 😳 but to test for the main 3 plus sex chromosomes would be £395. But will see what they say on Tuesday. It's just so frustrating because anatomically they both look perfect! And a single umbilical artery on its own doesn't cause any issues, and an absent ductus venosus on its own also doesn't cause any issues! It's just the fact one twin has both of these which makes our risk higher! But they are genetically the same... so if one looks perfect surely they're both okay! WAHHH!

@SunnySideUp2020 get to sleep lovely! Not long to go 😊😘 xx

Just thought I'd share where I got that info from... x

@MilsCookie it's an absolute bloody nightmare isn't it, you must be really frustrated as well at this stage, it is a total rollercoaster because it's incredibly upsetting and stressful, depressing and confusing, as well as making one very very angry with the whole situation. If the NHS just used the nipt as routine like they said they would roll out you'd actually have a straight forward decision now and path. Your have confidence and hope moving forward without the amino and just be able to go with the flow of the proceeding pregnancy, 99 percent likely to then birth two healthy babies with no issues at all. You love them already and know your moving forward but this nipt does throw up these myriad of options, but I'm starting to think blow the bloody test. Maybe it's amino or nothing 🤷‍♀️. The test will no doubt say 1 in ten thousand because you babies do not have those disorders and you will still be 'in the dark' about what the hell it's all about. Then they'll be born anyway, either way, so could it actually be really liberating to just say 'fuck it' ? And move forward, without either test, screw the research and late nights agonising, just enjoy the pregnancy and bond and be in love with them and each other. Yes of course see the head honcho and see what he says as well, but you are so far into the pregnancy now, the nipt is for comcerned or often paranoid people in the first trimester (so yes it is a money spinner that is for sure) that do not wish to have a baby born with downsyndrome, yes that's blunt but it's pretty much true. Maybe you just don't need the stress of it and the inevitableness of it all coming clear and you having paid some clinic and still be really baffled by it all, it could be a massive stress lovely for not any kind of conclusion ♥️

www.boots.com/online/pharmacy-services/winter-flu-jab-services

Morning ladies, I've posted the link to book your flu jabs, the slots start around the end of September so get booking! Just select the box that your pregnant and it will take you to a quick online form, you can add a partner too and then he/she will pay on the day. You just put your postcode in and away you go.

Self referring is definitely worth it, I wouldn't wait for your midwife or doctor to sort it out 🙄

ChampooPapi · 21/08/2020 08:12

Obviously yours is free

MilsCookie · 21/08/2020 08:53

Thank you @ChampooPapi - I think that's spot on advice there!! that was kind of the conclusion we came to... that we will love these babies no matter what and the thought of losing them now is too much to bear. The odds are still in our favour that they will be okay (they said we had a 1/10 chance there would be a disorder) so we're clinging on to that 90% and the fact that they both looked perfect at the anomaly scan, AND the fact twin 1 has no markers!! What will be will be.... but it will be good to get a second opinion from the big dog.

Thanks also for the flu jab reminder - gonna definitely get on that today!!

Thinking of you @SunnySideUp2020 xxx

SunnySideUp2020 · 21/08/2020 09:31

All is good 👍
Despite my nausea being shy these days, there is a little bean measuring 7w2 with a nice regular heartbeat of 152 bpm.
The midwife said all looks good for now and it is a few days behind my dates but she said at this stage there is + or - 5 days of accuracy.

We got to hear the heartbeat. First time for us ever and it was very emotional 😢

SunnySideUp2020 · 21/08/2020 09:34

The picture isnt great though 😁

@MilsCookie you've made the same decision that I would have, I think. Those girls are so loved.

In previous pregnancies, we havent even done the basic screening as we always said we'd love the baby whatever and just what would be would be. This time I have done it, but more out of anxiety after losing our girls I think.

@SunnySideUp2020 I'm so happy for you and your healthy little bean Smile

TerribleImagination · 21/08/2020 10:16

Amazing news @SunnySideUp2020 ❤️ Definitely don’t worry about measuring a few days behind, I was the same at my 8 week scan, measured 7+3 but by the 12 week scan she’d caught up by a couple of days! That’s amazing you got to hear the heartbeat too! 😍😍😍

Thanks for the flu jab link @ChampooPapi, I’ll get on that! Speaking of jabs... when did / is everyone having the whooping cough one? Does the midwife have to refer you for that one?

BS9790 · 21/08/2020 11:28

@TerribleImagination, think lots of ladies are being given them at their 20 week scan. My 2 friends both had them whilst sat on the bed in scan room, however I wasn't, midwife said only some sonographers are trained to give it.
After my 20 week scan and didn't recieve it, phoned midwife and she told me to phone my GP to arrange it myself. I had mine at about 22 weeks x

TerribleImagination · 21/08/2020 11:33

@BS9790 Thanks lovey! I’ll ask my midwife and see what she says 👍🏻

BecsterG · 21/08/2020 13:13

Aww congratulations @SunnySideUp2020. Lovely news and so amazing to hear the heartbeat so early on. Hopefully that puts your mind at rest for now.

Ladies I'm so uncomfortable today. This baby is doing somersaults, massive kicks you name it today. He's not normally as active as this during the day. Sitting down is no long comfortable for me.

MilsCookie · 21/08/2020 15:28

That's absolutely brilliant news @SunnySideUp2020! And now you've seen a heartbeat and dates pretty much match you can hopefully relax a little bit as the odds of anything going wrong now are pretty slim. So bloody happy for you!!

Thank you for the kind words @Ejb86 these babies will certainly be very loved no matter what happens!

Sorry to hear you're so uncomfortable @BecsterG - I know I'm not as far along as you but I feel your pain! I have had horrible back pain now for the last 5 weeks and it ends up going into spasms and the only thing that helps is lying down flat on the floor. I was in M&S the other day buying socks for DP and it happened...aaaaaand I'm embarrassed to say I looked around and realised noone was there so I lay on the floor ... right in the middle of m&s Grin how embarrassing!!! Does anyone else get this back pain? I actually think it might be my ribs cos it's on the right side of my ribs but on my back!

BecsterG · 21/08/2020 16:40

Oh gosh @MilsCookie that sounds horrendous! Love the idea of you lying on the floor in M&S though. That made me chuckle.

You may not be as far along as me but you have two in there so I can only imagine.

@SunnySideUp2020 so happy for you guys, and such a relief to log on and read the update too of course! Hearing that heartbeat for the first time is incredibly emotional and just plain incredible 🌈👣 I'll keep you the same shall I for the list then update when you have your twelve week scan? Do you have a date for that one yet? Some time the end of September I suppose it'll be, that will genuinely fly by a bit more now you've had this scan. It's such an endurance test pregnancy it really is sometimes, but you have reached a real milestone at over 7 weeks with excellent chances now you've heard the heartbeat and actually even better chances because of your previous loss, not despite it. This baby is for keeps this time 🥰

Leok83 · 21/08/2020 19:15

@SunnySideUp2020 aw fantastic news!! Delighted it all went well and so lovely to hear a heartbeat!! I haven't heard one yet..don't think they offer that at the epu scan as they never mentioned it so hoping I will at the 11 week private one, it must be so emotional! And it's a bonus that the morning sickness has eased off for you!

ChampooPapi · 22/08/2020 10:14

I can't believe I'm going to be 27 weeks on Tuesday, this it's getting real now!

MilsCookie · 22/08/2020 10:21

Oh wow @ChampooPapi - that time seems to have flown!! I keep thinking the same every week... I'll be 21 weeks on Monday and if my babies do come by 34 weeks like they've told me... that means I only have 13 weeks left!! 😳

SunnySideUp2020 · 22/08/2020 14:28

Thank you ladies for all the kind words 💕😊

@ChampooPapi yes let's keep the same dates and see what happens on 20th September.
And ong can't believe you guys are already so far !!!!! Time just fliiiiies. Same for @MilsCookie
Also i just keep picturing a pregnant woman on the floor at m&s and it makes me smile every time 😆 this is just hilarious and also something i would do!!!

Hopefully time will seem to fly by for me too so i can leave first trimester soo 😁
Nausea is on and off now but overall find it hard to feel good when eating 😪

@Leok83 perhaps the midwife let us hear tbe hb because we said how anxious we were after the mc... and she said it will feel more real !
Also was pleased it was abdominal scan. Felt more like a proper pregnancy appointment instead of having the probe inside 😅

Hope you guys get to hear it soon, it's unforgettable.

BS9790 · 22/08/2020 18:53

Apparently today is national rainbow baby day! 🌈

I've been quite wheezy on and off for the last couple of months, I used to suffer with asthma and my allergies have been quite bad during pregnancy. I'm wondering if I need an inhaler again, but guessing if I phone the gp and say I'm wheezing with a cough they aren't gonna agree to see me! Not sure what to do! Starting to struggle a bit! X

scrumdiddly123 · 23/08/2020 09:29

@SunnySideUp2020 I’ve only just seen your scan update, amazing news! You must be over the moon xx

MrsB16 · 23/08/2020 09:49

@ChampooPapi I’ve just seen your other thread re steriliser.

I’ve bought the new Tommee Tippie electric steam steriliser that sterilises and dryers 6 bottles in 40 minutes. A friend recommended it to me so I haven’t tried it myself yet but she said it’s amazing! It also fits lots of different bottles not just Tommee Tippee and at the moment it comes with 3 free bottles.

It’s currently on sale at £74.99 from their website and I have a voucher code for another 20% off making it £59! The code is Gemma20 (this isn’t me btw just helping a fellow rainbow mum out! This code also works site wide just in case you or anyone else on the thread needs anything else!)

MilsCookie · 23/08/2020 10:17

@MrsB16 @ChampooPapi I love the look of that steriliser, you've tempted me! I'm also looking at the perfect prep machine. Is that what I would need (those two machines) in terms of bottle prep? This is all so new to me so I don't know what to buy but I love a bargain so tempted to get them now with that kind offer code MrsB! I'm aiming to do a mixture of a bottle/breast feeding so definitely need some equipment! Xx

MrsB16 · 23/08/2020 10:57

@MilsCookie I just love a good voucher code! I spend ages trying to find one before I buy anything as I like the satisfaction!!

I haven’t bought the perfect prep yet as I do want to try breastfeeding but won’t hesitate to get it if I can’t. My sister had the older style one when she had a baby 4 years ago and she said it was a lifesaver as the bottles are just ready to go, no waiting around for it to cool or anything so you don’t have to content with making a bottle and having a screaming baby or in your case 2 screaming babies!

I asked someone the other day what was the difference between the old one and the new one (other than the £40 price difference!) and apparently the new one has night settings which means the scream isn’t as bright and it doesn’t beep as loud at night and that’s the only difference. Not sure that’s worth £40 but it might be at 3am!
