Mine is very active too, especially in the evenings and when I first get into bed. My first was pretty active and he's just a 'normal' 4.5yr old! I don't think it has any bearing on how they'll be on the outside

Mc3209 · 01/08/2020 09:57

Mine is generally quite active, but he definitely has 'snoozy' spells. Yesterday was a quiet day and I was just starting to worry, but he picked up/turned by the evening and was more wriggly.
I would be interested to know too if the activity in the belly translates into temperament when born!

DressingGown87 · 01/08/2020 11:00

@Sls668 she has quiet days and busy days, I assume the busy days are when she is moving position or having a growth spurt. She may be a wild child though!

Flora20 · 01/08/2020 13:25

Mine is pretty much on the move constantly, most of the movements are visible now so my bump is constantly twitching and jolting around 😂

BS9790 · 01/08/2020 19:15

I have quiet days and busier days with movement. More quiet ones than busy, finding it quite stressful!

roarfeckingroarr · 01/08/2020 20:22

Mine feels like it's having little spasms recently. Apparently it's normal but it feels like about 10-15 seconds of rapid movement / twitching.

Mc3209 · 01/08/2020 23:17

@BS9790 today was another quieter day for me. It's unsettling, so I completely understand how you feel. All the kicks I do feel are right down and in my bladder, so I am thinking he is just in a funky position.

@roarfeckingroarr I haven't felt that yet, but I've heard that's normal.

I have felt baby hickups though, makes me smile every time.

Mc3209 · 01/08/2020 23:18

*hiccups of course

1990shopefulftm · 02/08/2020 10:37

Had a 4d scan this morning, he was a bit cheeky with his feet near his face but managed to convince him to move them for a bit. Don't get bump measured until my 28 week appointment this week so had no idea what his size is till now.

The scan had his weight measurement as 50th percentile exactly, which was reassuring. I know it's irrational but the thought of having a 9/10lb scares me more even though many people do it so at the moment to be looking at around the 7lb 8oz mark as an estimate is great.

I d definitely recommend having one if anyone has been thinking about it as we got to see much more of him than at the 20 week scan and it's very reassuring to have measurements checked and see how their organs are doing.

@1990shopefulftm How adorable! He's looking super cosy in there Halo

So, I've managed to come down with a rotten summer cold. Anybody have any advice on what I can safely take in pregnancy? I did take two paracetamol earlier but my nose hasn't stopped running since 4am and I am feeling absolutely wiped. Confused

Mc3209 · 02/08/2020 13:02

@1990shopefulftm he looks super comfy! Happy to hear all is well.

@KitKatKit my sympathies. Headcolds are not pretty. I suspect salt spray, vapour rub and plenty of chicken soup is the mainstay. This is a good website to check medicines in pregnancy: www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/

But always check with the pharmacist just in case.

KitKatKit · 02/08/2020 14:40

@Mc3209 Thanks for the link and tips, and especially reminding me about Vicks vapour rub! Yes I'm going to make a pot of soup now and then get back to bed.

Hope everyone else is having a better Sunday than me 😀

1990shopefulftm · 02/08/2020 15:06

@KitKatKit i've found salt spray has helped with my nose before, if you want something that tastes like lemsip since it's not pregnancy safe, some places sell like a lemon flavoured paracetamol powder which is safe to take.

GhostWorld · 03/08/2020 11:52

I had my 28 week midwife appointment today and she mentioned that I might like to see if I can express any milk (just hand express) using a milk syringe to freeze any milk for day 3 as apparently the baby is particularly hungry then and I may not have a full flow at that point. Has anyone else (who is planning on breast feeding if possible) thought about trying this? My main concern is actually freezer space Grin but also I feel a bit like I have no idea what I'm doing haha

Mc3209 · 03/08/2020 16:19

@GhostWorld I've heard of that, and was vaguely planning on doing that when the time comes. Got no clue of the logistics though, and my boobs are not leaky at all so far, so I actually doubt I will be able to get much out of them before the labour... Let me know how you get on!

Flora20 · 03/08/2020 20:13

@GhostWorld From what I've seen on this previously it's usually something that's recommended for prem babies, not heard anyone recommend it in general before. Have a look at the milk meg page on Facebook though, there should be lots of info on there. My milk came in around the end of day 3 last time, before then their stomachs are so tiny that they don't need much anyway. I'd try expressing some colostrum into an egg cup then collecting it in a syringe if you do give it a go.

My 2 year old is happily drinking all mine at the moment so don't think I'll be collecting any!

DressingGown87 · 03/08/2020 21:43

@1990shopefulftm love the scan pic! So glad he moved his hands to show you his face. I agree they are so worth the price.

@KitKatKit hope your feeling better. I’ve felt run down, but I think it’s just the stress and upheaval. Hope your bathroom and work is nearly done, and the plastic death trap has been removed off the stairs.

Can someone give me some clarity on movement pattens, or just tell me I’m thinking too much into it. Are patterns, My baby moves:

  1. precisely at 8am, 1pm, 4pm, etc
  2. around 8-9am, 11-12am, 3-4pm etc
  3. my baby moves early morning, lunch time, when the chase is on itv and before I go to bed.

Just so I know what’s a pattern... stupid question I know.

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 03/08/2020 21:50

@DressingGown87 my pattern is more like your third version: I feel him first thing in the morning, then he is quite active after lunch, and evening is a wriggle time. I definitely don't keep it to specific times, just vague times of the day. That's how I've been doing it.

KitKatKit · 03/08/2020 22:01

@DressingGown87 Thank you, I felt so much more human today. I think I was run down after combination of a busy few days following 2.5 weeks of renovations! Thankfully it's all done now and my night time bathroom trips are safely five steps away rather than down the plastic deathtrap stairs! How's yours coming along? Hope you're hanging in there!

WRT to movements, I'm 29 weeks and still not really "counting" kicks. My "pattern" is definitely more like your option 3 and basically what @Mc3209 said! I normally feel movement in the morning when I wake up, sometimes after lunch (but not always), and then once I'm in bed. I definitely feel less pronounced kicks these days and more general movement, but I think that's because he's getting bigger and also possibly facing my back (and I have a posterior placenta, which I think is cushioning a lot of the movement).

SJR86 · 03/08/2020 22:05

@DressingGown87 I would say that all of those are patterns!
Mine doesn't seem to have settled down into an established pattern yet, but I notice more movement in the evening, occasionally first thing in the morning and after I've eaten.
As long as I've felt it move once a day I'm fairly happy as the placenta high anterior and will still be muffling movement at times - it's so hard not to read too much into it isn't it!

DressingGown87 · 03/08/2020 22:17

@mc3209 @kitkatkit @sjr86 Thank you all, put my mind at rest! I would say mine is also version 3, but it’s so generalised, I didn’t know if I had to be more certain. Usually when I when I wake up, lunch time, The Chase 😂, and teatime / bedtime (Overthinking), and reading too much into it.

@kitkatkit mine is the same more movement than kicks, but I’m posterior too. I’m glad you don’t have to trail downstairs now. Hope it’s looking great! I’ve 98% finished the bathroom just some minor finishes this week, guest room are done, ceilings are finished and the Nursey is waiting furniture. Tomorrow I can finally get my house straight and everything in it’s home. Then Wednesday I’m having a professional full day clean of all carpets, dust removal, moving all furniture (as dust gets everywhere), and I can finally relax. Glad your feeling better now. I’m WFH 10-12 hours day too now which isn’t practical or helping, but it’s a busy few weeks before I finish for MAT.

KitKatKit · 04/08/2020 08:21

@DressingGown87 Your movements sound like the rest of us Grin I'm glad you asked the question though, it's put my own mind at ease too.

Wow, sounds like a lot is finally wrapping up in your house, how exciting! The full house clean sounds the best though haha. My usual fortnightly cleaning lady hasn't been coming since March but she's resuming from tomorrow so looks like both of us will benefit from shiny clean houses!

On a serious note, do look after yourself and make sure you're getting some downtime. I know there's so much that seems like it needs doing in such a short space of time, but don't forget about you and get as much rest as you can! Not long to go until they're all here...

Sls668 · 04/08/2020 09:13

What has/is everyone doing regarding antenatal classes/research? I really wanted to do the NHS classes but don’t think they’ll run and I’m not looking to do NCT but I really want to do, it at least, read something to help prepare for the birth.
I really don’t want to do a zoom meeting, would prefer just to watch YouTube videos/read if they’re the only options

SJR86 · 04/08/2020 09:34

@Sls668 I spoke to my midwife at my 28week appointment and our NHS trust have recorded some antenatal videos which she has sent me.

We have signed up for NCT, as much for building a local support network of new parents as anything else as we are both relatively new to the area we live in. It was still going to be face to face when we signed up but now will be online.

I'm also thinking of signing up for an online hypnobirthing course, has anyone found or started one they would recommend?

GhostWorld · 04/08/2020 09:38

@DressingGown87 Yep the 3rd option sounds more like mine! If I'm feeling worried I'll start counting the kicks and then I'll notice more of a pattern, like I usually eat breakfast around 10 and about 45 minutes later there will be a lot of movement. In general though I'm not counting!

@Sls668 I've done a couple of online classes (free ones) that are zoom meetings and they haven't been so bad, bit awkward to begin with but I didn't have my camera on anyway (mainly because I was in my PJs with no make up and cavewoman hair. Someone above recommended The Maternity Collective, which are offering 2 months of free access to their classes which are prerecorded and not interactive.. I found them on Instagram and got access that way
