@NaomiB79 if it helps we could post what we eat here? Some accountability can help

RestorationInsanity · 02/06/2020 10:51

I hope this doesn't make anyone feel bad (it is not intended to) but I'm worrying the other way as I lost a kilo and a half and haven't put any back on and will be 14 weeks on Friday. I spoke to friends who've had babies, and those who gained lots, average or not much said they were never weighed beyond their booking appt so felt that the midwives obviously didn't put much store in it unless they had other health issues. So I think we should just all do our best to be healthy and not worry about the odd treats, or the scales, and just know that our bodies are doing a great and difficult job of growing our babies!

PipTed · 02/06/2020 10:52

@EithneBlue thank you. I’m trying to be laid back about it, but I can’t deny my shock at the scales.

Mmm Prosecco in the garden, sounds lovely!

@EBM20 sorry you are still being sick! But I’m so jealous you have a pool!!! On hot days that must be a godsend!

chubbyhotchoc · 02/06/2020 10:54

@RestorationInsanity I think you have to do what's right for you. I know I will be very depressed if I gain four stone and that's not good for my mental health. I gain very easily so I can't afford to just worry about it later. I need to eat a healthy amount for baby but not so much that I leave myself with a huge unnecessary gain.

magvdamme · 02/06/2020 11:01

Hey ladies just thought I'd share on here. Just managed to get some bargain maternity clothes on boohoo and Dorothy Perkins all in the sale!!

NaomiB79 · 02/06/2020 11:09

@PipTed Thanks for sending the calculators I will use them to keep a better track of what I’m gaining.

RestorationInsanity · 02/06/2020 11:11

@chubbyhotchoc oh absolutely! I just meant that if someone feels they are doing the right things, and gaining more than they thought they might, or not as much, that they shouldn't panic that there's something wrong. Obviously anyone who feels they could make changes to not gain as much and wants to do so definitely should, just as they would if they weren't pregnant.

Icantthinkofanickname123456 · 02/06/2020 11:36

@EithneBlue A friend of mine gave me a bottle of alcohol free prosecco on Saturday - highly recommended. Made by Belle & Co. and you can have more than a tiny glass in the sun when its alcohol free and lower calories too (plus its only £5 for the bottle)!

PipTed · 02/06/2020 11:44

@NaomiB79 no problem. 😊

EithneBlue · 02/06/2020 11:45

@Icantthinkofanickname123456

Oh, I am drinking plenty of alcohol free stuff. But it was nice to have the tiny treat of something 'real' ;-)

PipTed · 02/06/2020 11:57

@EithneBlue I know what you mean about the real stuff!

I’m holding out until I’m gasping for alcohol and I’m going to treat myself to an aperol spritz, will probs use alcohol free fizz, but I think the aperol itself will do the trick!

RestorationInsanity · 02/06/2020 12:11

Am I the only one who has totally gone off alcohol? I can't stand the smell even when DH just has one beer! It seems to be really strong!

RestorationInsanity · 02/06/2020 12:11

I am doing wondrous things with sparkling water though 😂

peachypetite · 02/06/2020 12:13

Not just you, I’ve replaced wine and gin with milkshakes!

RestorationInsanity · 02/06/2020 12:14

I'm secretly looking to the drop in temp the next couple of days as I've got a Velvetiser and really fancy a hot chocolate!

EBM20 · 02/06/2020 12:37

I've been loving the koperburg alcohol free but limiting myself to 1 a day, I only really have them on the weekend. I was I'd in the shop for them and they pointed out that on the back it says contains less than 0.05% alcohol

EBM20 · 02/06/2020 12:40

Has anyone cut out caffeine? At the start I cut it out completely and drank caffeine free coffee but then I started to get headaches and the chemist recommended to try have 1 caffeinated drink a day and its kept headaches at bay!

Pinktruffle · 02/06/2020 12:49

@RestorationInsanity I love my Velvetiser! You can use them to make milkshakes too you know? I have a ton of sachets to use (and I'm not exaggerating, I have about 50 sachets in the drawer) but I've totally gone off chocolate. I hope it all survives the summer!

Pinktruffle · 02/06/2020 12:51

@EBM20 I've cut it out, I did get some caffeine free teabags but drinking tea really triggered my morning sickness so I've not had it since about week 5

Bobbieblu · 02/06/2020 12:54

Just looked up what a velvetiser is and they look incredible! Might be my winter treat to myself...

Pinktruffle · 02/06/2020 13:03

You won't regret it @Bobbieblu, I love mine and it looks so stylish in the kitchen

firstbabybell · 02/06/2020 13:11

@naomiB79 sorry bit late to the party on the weight gain issue. Thanks for raising this though.

I am also worried about the rate at which I am gaining weight. And I carry it mostly on my upper body so it's very obvious on my face & arms etc. I also have a couple of stretch marks on my love handles already.

I also feel like I don't deserve to have put as much on as I actually have so I wonder if all the extra progesterone had worsened things?

I am hoping it does not continue at a pound a week as I cannot gain 40 pounds. I absolutely refuse to! 😭

RestorationInsanity · 02/06/2020 13:19

Totally agree @Bobbieblu if you get one you'll never look back!

How do you make milkshakes @Pinktruffle? Do you add it to ice after it's finished mixing?

chubbyhotchoc · 02/06/2020 13:48

@EBM20 I don't drink tea or coffee but have a crazy addiction to pepsi max. I couldn't drink it at all through to week ten which was really weird but now I'm feeling better I'm back on it again but trying to restrict it

Pinktruffle · 02/06/2020 13:51

@Restorationinsanity Have a look at this

blog.hotelchocolat.com/how-to-make-luxury-chocolate-milkshakes-at-home/

I usually add more milk to the glass than they instruct just because of personal preference
