@Pinktruffle I said I wouldn't find out second time but caved! There seems to be a general shortage on newborn clothing online at the minute but the unisex stuff is even harder to find! I still think a surprise is lovely though even if I haven't had the patience to do it myself.

lionsmum · 12/06/2020 18:17

I think we are going to find out with this one. I have my consultant 16 week scan a week on Monday so will see if she's able to tell me then😊 with our first we didn't find out so have lots of white/grey/yellow baby clothes which will be handy either way!

@roro87 we are like you, have one almost definite girl name but about 7 boy names on the list!😅

RunnerGirl123 · 12/06/2020 18:36

Yeah definitely feeling more positive today. We've taken a wait and see approach, that's all we can do. I can't bear to think about other options right now, I'd rather do all I can for this baby.

Thanks again everyone! You're all so lovely, and I really appreciate your kind words, thoughts and wishes for me, OH and baby. I've never been part of a thread on a forum where everyone is so supportive of each other, and I think we're all truly lucky to have each other during these unfamiliar circumstances in lockdown.

ChampooPapi · 12/06/2020 19:52

@RunnerGirl123 just all the love to you and your partner. It really is a wait and see situation which although is going to be difficult, I can garentee we will all be here every day until you get to the next stage. That is the good thing about these threads, someone is always awake or here , even when others can't be or are taking a break. There is strength in our numbers and we are all willing for everything to work out for you both, but you can come here to vent as well whenever you need to, that will always be well received as well! We love a good vent us pregnant women ☺️

Can I ask, those of you that have babies/children already (or just have any experience of babies!) is it right that initially, you put them to bed with the right amount of layers on for the warmth of the room, and don't use any coverings at all? I like the idea of getting the sleeping bags, but most say they're not suitable until baby is a bit bigger as they might slip down in them. I literally know nothing!

Amyyy1 · 12/06/2020 20:35

@RestorationInsanity I'd like to know this too! I am clueless with everything x

roro87 · 12/06/2020 20:37

@RestorationInsanity I know absolutely nothing either so can't wait to see the answers

Babyhope98 · 12/06/2020 20:52

Hi ladies I keep getting a throbbing like headache that happens when I stand up and goes when I sit down. Has anyone else experienced this. It doesn’t happen every time just sometimes.

chubbyhotchoc · 12/06/2020 20:55

I used zip up swaddles similar to these www.lovetodream.co.uk with a couple of cellular blankets. It was winter then too so there was no way she wasn't having blankets over her. I did have a breathing monitor too so that stopped me worrying too much about sids

Pe4nutsmum · 12/06/2020 21:00

@ChampooPapi, hi hope your well, I just bought the swaddle growbag from John Lewis. It arrived today.

I love grow bags.

Omg I’ve spent the past hour with shooting pains on and off which I’ve googled and seems to be called lightning crotch? It’s horrible, really makes me wince. Anyone else experienced that? @Babyhope98 I’ve been suffering a lot with headaches and did get that when I stood up.

NatalieH2220 · 12/06/2020 21:27

@RestorationInsanity My son was born in March and he used to sleep in a vest, sleepsuit and cellular blanket. I'm planning to do similar this time around with a November baby. I have come across some sleeping bags suitable from birth which either didn't exist or I didn't come across last time so will be looking into those this time as blankets do make me nervous. We started using sleeping bags from a few months old and loved them.

ChampooPapi · 12/06/2020 21:58

Yes you can definitely use sleeping bags from birth ladies who are wondering or worrying about them. I have one that actually stops at the waist that is pretty brilliant, so like a skirt with the bottom sewn up. It was from little green sheep but a friend gave it to me years ago and I've yet to find another.

A 'Gro chart' will give you am idea about layers and what tog to put them in, as long as you have a room thermometer (gro egg). You don't need to use their bags though obviously, the chart is just very useful I find for deciding on how much to dress them in. Less is more with babies, being to warm is not good for them at all!

@Pe4nutsmum I love this! I want it immediately of course! 😍😍

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 12/06/2020 22:00

Such a useful chart , just states the bag tog needed plus whatever you need underneath.

Can I also preach the virtues of a muslin sleeping bag for summer or holidays, they are excellent when it's hot. They can just sleep naked underneath of needed.

I will be getting a grosnug
gro.co.uk/product/gro-snug/
There's a little demo video on the homepage

ChampooPapi · 12/06/2020 22:07

Is does mean if you like a cool room even in winter, you don't have to have the heating pumping away all night to maintain a certain temperature. Our winter's don't even get that cold most of the time so the room is unlikely to go much under 14 degrees. Even then as long as they are in the correct bag tog and sleepsuit+best they will be toasty.

Depends on your preference as to how warm you like to keep the house over night of course.

I personally never have the heating on in the night time so having the thermometer was very reassuring to see when waking for a feed, like of it dropped a few degrees I always had an extra cellular blanket to add over the bag to hand as well

@peachypetite I do get shooting pains sometimes too, I had that more in the first trimester. I think it just a grow spurt and it’s pressing on nerves..

Pinktruffle · 13/06/2020 00:07

@peachypetitea I've been a sufferer of lightining crotch too!

Snowwhite2020 · 13/06/2020 03:41

Hey ladies 🙋🏻‍♀️ Awake in the middle of the night tonight for absolutely no reason (pregnancy yay) and catching up with the thread! Love all the tips and ideas for baby things. Very useful as a FTM! Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 13/06/2020 03:52

@nearlyamummyof3 congrats that all went well with the procedure you went through. That must have been very stressful for you but it sounds like you were so strong and so happy to hear all is going well with your two babies!

@RunnerGirl123 I’m really sorry to hear you have had such an stressful week. I think a wait and see approach sounds very sensible and hopefully they will have good news for you at the 20 week scan.

Waves to everyone else on this lovely thread!

As for me- still throwing up and actually threw up blood this week, so it looks like it may be HG (hyperemesis) after all. All has been well with the baby though- it’s just my body that’s taking a battering! But all
Good otherwise and even though still very sick, am feeling pretty bright otherwise. I also managed some chips from McDonald’s today and kept them down- what a treat!!

@ChampooPapi approaching the half way mark- it’s not too far off now!!

confused107 · 13/06/2020 06:52

Hello everyone. Long time lurker hoping on if that's ok? I recognise a couple of names from previous IVF threads (how lovely to see you on here!). It's been so informative reading this tread, and I'm so sorry to hear of the tough week that @RunnerGirl123 and @nearlyamummyof3 have had and glad you have all found this lovely place

I am 15 weeks pregnant. Had my consultant appointment yesterday and the consultant said that as I'm over 35, first baby and IVF then I am at risk of a smaller baby so has booked me in for an extra scan at 32 weeks. At my 12 (well 13) week scan baby was in the wrong position for to measure the NT so I also had the quad blood test yesterday so now awaiting the results. 20 week scan is booked for July 16th, which is my 39th Birthday! We have decided to find out the sex, so will book a private scan at the local 'meet your miracle' who were so good at a early reassurance scan so that we can find out together. Currently undecided when to do this, but will probably wait until after the 20 week scan so we know all is ok first. If we can resist!

After a long and stressful journey getting here, and weeks of fear of getting excited in case it goes wrong (which it of course still can) it's finally starting to feel real for us, and I was starting to feel a bit weird as I feel like I know you all but I haven't said hello 👋

I'm actually considering my first pregnancy purchase today, a pregnancy pillow as for some reason I keep rolling onto my stomach as night. Does anyone have any recommendations for one I can get online?

kkr168 · 13/06/2020 07:28

@confused107 I went for this one, it is huge but lovely to snuggle in to....

It was horrible and was on an off for quite a while. I’m going to make a list of things to discuss with midwife next week especially as I haven’t been given a set appointment, just they will call at some point during the week.
