@nearlyamummyof3 thanks! Hope your scan goes well!!

@PipTed thanks!

peachypetite · 10/06/2020 10:21

This will be my first baby and I’m honestly starting to feel totally overwhelmed by everything, is this normal? I am definitely the kind of person who plans everything and I’m really worried about how life changing it’s going to be, how I will cope, how I’ll manage going back to work etc, even looking at all the baby stuff online is like a different world and so much choice eg prams car seats etc etc.

lionsmum · 10/06/2020 10:30

@nearlyamummyof3 good luck with your scan today, will be thinking of you and hope everything is ok with both your boys💙

chubbyhotchoc · 10/06/2020 10:32

@nearlyamummyof3 @EithneBlue @PipTed
I have given him info and I think he is starting to get it. I guess it's hard when you have three healthy kids and never had an issue but everything is always fine until it isn't iyswim?! Worse comes to worse I'll get the midwife to talk give him a dressing down lol. I seem to remember they come out to check on sleeping arrangements before the birth. Not sure if they still do. Whatever happens baby will be with me like it or lump it I'd just prefer not to have a battle on my hands

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 10:36

Thanks @lionsmum

@peachypetite that's totally normal, but don't worry as soon as they are here it will all fall into place. They will guide you through and you will get into your own routine with them. I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 7 months with my first! (Crazy to think how now as I have all the symptoms. But I had none then and he was tucked right away - and I had had irregular periods my life)
But you do just manage and find a way! Your own family way 😊😊😊

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 10:37

@chubbyhotchoc yes they do, and they come and check after as well. It will be your community midwife team - it might be worth giving them a ring for some reading material?

chubbyhotchoc · 10/06/2020 10:40

@nearlyamummyof3 I will ask when I say the midwife next. Good idea! With the bottles I'll get a perfect prep. He'll prob like that as he loves gadgets lol

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 10:41

@peachypetite the support you get is unbelievable as well! We had absolutely nothing luckily in a better place now but there is so much advice out there.
Maybe give your community midwives a call as well and just have a chat? I know it's extra hard with no antenatal classes etc so might be worth talking to them about any worries 🥰🥰🥰

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 10:42

@chubbyhotchoc is that the Tommee Tippee one? We had one and it broke but I'm definitely getting a new for the twins so helpful!

chubbyhotchoc · 10/06/2020 10:47

@nearlyamummyof3 yes. I did have one last time but sold it because when I first switched to formula my dd had ready pour milk rather than powdered. Once she'd had that she refused the powdered but the prep machine seemed really good and easy to use. Having to buy the ready pour was really expensive. This one won't be getting the option I'm afraid. You can get the machines second hand and buy a new filter. I might get a second hand one for upstairs

RestorationInsanity · 10/06/2020 11:05

@roro87 as so many of the others have said I've been having cramps/backache on and off too. I tend to find I have a few good days of not feeling much of anything, then a day or two where everything seems to ache or feel really uncomfortable. I wonder if its growth spurts, or something running out of room so suddenly everything has to stretch and move again before settling. It is scary though!

@peachypetite you're not alone. I have surprised myself that I've not felt as overwhelmed as I thought I might. DH and I have split up the research (he's on prams and car seats, I'm on reusable nappies, and we're sharing sleeping arrangements) as we're both big planners but I'm trying to ignore my brain when it starts panicking about what I'll do during the summer holidays when our child is at school if we're both at work. I think having assumed we would have an exceptionally planned pregnancy, if we had one at all (donor egg IVF is months and months in the planning) having a shock pregnancy really reset my expectations.

MummyShark97 · 10/06/2020 11:05

@peachypetite I know exactly what you mean! I'm so over the moon to be having a baby but I really do get overwhelmed sometimes, recognising this will be so life changing. Even choosing when to go on mat leave or thinking about a birth plan has given me really intense moments! I think it's all just part of the process and we are missing out on some extra care we'd usually have access to.

roro87 · 10/06/2020 11:09

I think it is due to the lack of water yesterday I had been really busy and think i let myself get dehydrated. They aren't too bad today thankfully. Thanks everyone for the reassurance. It could also be the baby moving up I had to go to my doctor anyway this morning to get my urine checked and heard the baby's heart beat so feel better about it

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 11:09

@chubbyhotchoc the ready to pour is a life saver sometimes but so expensive! We buy it when we go the in-laws and it's a treat not to be making bottles 😂 I always found he had a runny tummy on it though!

Funnily enough my sister in law just told me she's getting us a perfect prep 😊😊

Teaandbiscuits123 · 10/06/2020 12:10

@RestorationInsanity I’m really starting to think that they do have growth spurts! I also have a few good days (have energy, craving fruit, no horrid symptoms) and then a few days where I’m super tired, headaches, craving carbs and feeling tight and stretched round the belly!

chubbyhotchoc · 10/06/2020 12:18

@nearlyamummyof3 they do something to it that kind of caramelises it and makes it a lot richer and sweeter. I tasted it when dd was refusing the powdered and I could totally see her point lol

RestorationInsanity · 10/06/2020 12:35

@Teaandbiscuits123 yes that sounds exactly the same as me! A relief to know I'm not alone there.

I just bought my first thing for baby! A kit to make a felt woodland animal garland!

Teaandbiscuits123 · 10/06/2020 12:52

@RestorationInsanity me too! That sounds gorgeous! My mum is making me a felt bird mobile (each bird is stuffed with lavender!) very cute ❤️

I haven’t actually made any baby purchases yet but I just had a big Asos delivery of maternity clothes! I hope some of them work!

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 13:10

@RestorationInsanity that's so exciting!

An hour countdown to my scan - I've been reluctant to buy twin stuff as it's been such a worry especially with the TTS it's sounds awful but I'm just trying not to preempt anything. If that makes any sense!

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 13:12

I'm hoping it will be better in Liverpool as the midwife here is quite dismissive and morbid and has told how high risk I am of miscarrying which is super scary. She also couldn't understand why I was worried when I first found out I had TTS I was practically crying which I think is normal!!!

EithneBlue · 10/06/2020 13:54

@peachypetite - completely normal. Or at least, if it's not completely normal, you and I are both abnormal ;-)
I am actually a bit of a type A control freak list maker (what is odd about this is that I am also extremely messy and hate housework) but have broken my list down into sections - at the moment my focus is nappies and associated changing products: research how they work, what additional products are needed, purchase and adjust the budget accordingly. Everything else is sitting on the back burner - when the nappies are sorted, I will choose a different category and start again.
Have you looked at booking an NCT class to give you a bit of confidence and some local connections?

ChampooPapi · 10/06/2020 14:01

@nearlyamummyof3 thinking of you, update us when you can lovely on how everything is 💜

@nearlyamummyof3 all fingers and toes crossed for you here.

RunnerGirl123 · 10/06/2020 14:10

Thinking of you @nearlyamummyof3! Hope you enjoy seeing the boys!

Pinktruffle · 10/06/2020 14:12

I'm in 2 minds about doing NCT. I'm not local to the area I live in and don't have many friends here so I think that would be the main reason for me doing it - though NCT isn't offered where I live so I would be going the next city over but it's only about 20 mins away. The price really puts me off. £190 for 10 hours seems really steep and though I am paid a decent wage, my maternity pay will be poop so I feel like I would be wiser to save the money/spend it on baby stuff and maybe do some classes with the baby and hope to make friends there? I'm guessing that will be a more difficult situation in which to make friends
