Good luck @Kj1010, keep us posted!

@EithneBlue we're going to use reusables too. I filled out the Nappy Lady questionnaire and got a really thorough response so have a few things to try. Will probably order a small newborn set, and then add/try alternatives once we get into the swing of it.

nearlyamummyof3 · 09/06/2020 14:35

Good luck @Kj1010

My friend used reusables and loved them.
I think they might be better for pooey leaks as well! I've tried so many different types on nappies and you still get a lot of pooey leaks with them all 😫😂
I found pampers premium the worst! And just started Amazons own brand and they seem really good plus you can buy in bulk and it's cheaper if you do a subscription!

I've just bought a tub of icecream as I have super nerves for my scan tomorrow plus going to Liverpool the day after for house viewing just all feels like a lot! I feel tired just thinking about it!

@ChampooPapi the snuz pods look lovely! Will you use the sleepy heads inside those then? My first hated the sleepy head for some reason and we lived in one room when we first had him so he was in our bed (and now still is unfortunately!) so want to get into really good habits straight away with the twins 🥰 hopefully can move first into a little bed with a barrier when they come as he will not go in a cot at alll!!! X

110APiccadilly · 09/06/2020 14:45

I've been able to change an old school reusable nappy since I was 12 (big age gap between me and younger sibling!) We're using disposables though - DH really genuinely hates the idea of washables and as he does the washing and I'm willing to accommodate him.

How much do you need a sleeping option for both upstairs and downstairs? Our house has no soundproofing so it's not like I wouldn't hear baby if baby was upstairs and I was downstairs or anything like that. I was just thinking we'd get a Moses basket in our room and baby can sleep there whenever until they get too big. Is that unrealistic?

chubbyhotchoc · 09/06/2020 15:24

@110APiccadilly I think the idea is baby sleeps in the same room as you are to reduce SIDS risk. It's supposed to help regulate their breathing I think.

110APiccadilly · 09/06/2020 15:37

@chubbyhotchoc
Thanks. I knew that for overnight sleeping but hadn't really thought about it during the day (had assumed that if I'm awake then it wouldn't work in quite the same way). But maybe it does?

RestorationInsanity · 09/06/2020 15:46

I have friends who have opted not to follow certain sleeping recommendations for various reasons, but the guidance is definitely that baby should not be left to sleep alone for the first 6 months, day time or night time makes no difference to them.

RestorationInsanity · 09/06/2020 16:09

There are so many guidelines, it's hard to keep track so I just use the NHS site as a one-stop shop!

110APiccadilly · 09/06/2020 16:20

I was given a literal book (NHS Wales) so it's probably in there somewhere, but I haven't read the whole thing yet!

Having flipped through the book, it's pretty good. But as you say, there's just so much information (and while I have a bit of a head start from the younger sibling, I never had to think about things like where they would nap - and some of the guidance has changed since then anyway.)

Kj1010 · 09/06/2020 17:00

@runnergirl123 thankyou scan went well 13 weeks 3 days feel anxious still dunno why though should be excited as there heartbeat etc

NaomiB79 · 09/06/2020 17:16

Hi hope everyone is doing well, lovely to read about those of you who had your scans recently. I had my 16 week midwife check up today (I’m actually 17 + 4) it went well, she checked the heartbeat again which was reassuring after my scare last week. My midwife did it face to face at the medical centre but has said she will do the next one (22 weeks) at my house so that my partner can be involved. I’m really pleased about that as it’s been hard that he can’t come to any scans or appointments with me 😀.

Pinktruffle · 09/06/2020 17:18

@kj1010 I think there is a little bit of that for us all until the baby actually gets here.
You just have to do your best to trust that everything is ok.

Kj1010 · 09/06/2020 18:07

@pinktruffle yes very true going to try my best and relax and enjoy x

RunnerGirl123 · 09/06/2020 18:17

@Kj1010 i still feel like this sometimes, I think it's just natural. You just have to keep trusting all is okay. Really glad it went well!

MummyShark97 · 09/06/2020 19:22

Been nice to read through all of today's messages and see everyone is well, scans/appointments went well Smile

A moses basket came with our pram bundle deal so that's us sorted for the first few weeks at least!

Could hardly believe it but I felt my first movements yesterday evening! Doubted myself several times at first but then had a big swish feeling that was unmistakable, totally surreal but really lovely. I'd had my 16 week appt earlier in the day and the midwife said any time now for movements so maybe it put me on standby!

chubbyhotchoc · 09/06/2020 20:27

I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to navigate our sleeping arrangements. This is mine and dh's first together. He's got three from previously and I think they had a very relaxed approach. All their children went straight into their own rooms. I have one dd from a previous marriage and I was super paranoid, had her in with me for a long time and used a breathing monitor always. He was shocked when I said I wanted a bedside crib and says it's ridiculous. Same with the whole bottle feeding thing. They always made bottles up in advance and stored them in the fridge before blasting them in the microwave.

roro87 · 09/06/2020 21:01

Having really bad period like cramps this evening. sitting on the couch with a hot water bottle hoping it isn't more than that

Awkes · 09/06/2020 21:26

@roro87 I’ve been having similar backache and some cramp but been assured it’s just body stretching so try not to worry!

Amyyy1 · 10/06/2020 01:52

@roro87 I've been getting period cramps and back ache for the past couple of days but from googling it seems pretty normal! If you're worried though you should call your midwife x

peachypetite · 10/06/2020 07:09

I’ve had backache too, seems to be expected at 15 weeks.

PipTed · 10/06/2020 07:18

@roro87 I had the cramps and backache yesterday too. 😊 for me it usually means I need to drink more water (I went on a big walk yesterday so probably needed more than usual). Not sure if that might help you?

PipTed · 10/06/2020 07:23

@MummyShark97 amazing news with the movements! Must be so exciting.

I keep thinking I can feel something when I lay down, but can’t be too sure. Was going to ask my midwife on Friday when I have my 16 weeks call.

Feels almost like random pulsations for me. 🙈

PipTed · 10/06/2020 07:29

@chubbyhotchoc sounds a bit tricky, but couldn’t you explain that advice is changing all the time and, while it might have been OK when his older children were born, it currently strongly leans towards having baby in the same room at first to reduce risk of SIDS etc? Do you have a baby book you can both read so you can talk about the advice it provides, together? We’re first time parents and a book that we both read is really helping us talk about our preferences and shape what kind of parents we’re going to be. 😊

EithneBlue · 10/06/2020 08:19

@chubbyhotchoc - I agree with PipTed - tell him the advice has changed and that you'd like to be doing what is currently best practice (unless he's likely to research how true this is in which case the awkward conversation is the only way to go).

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 09:05

@chubbyhotchoc I totally agree with you on the baby in the room front. As I said before we had no choice to have ours in the bed to begin with. I understand people used to have them in other rooms but I'm even paranoid now he's 9 months if we're downstairs and he's upstairs!
I totally agree with everyone's advice on the baby book - you also get loads of advice when you leave the hospital and videos to watch on sleeping babies.
I do have bottles made up just for the night especially now I'm pregnant because mine still has two throughout the night and I'm a zombie!

My little one has just started crawling as well which is a great way to keep fit! 😫

nearlyamummyof3 · 10/06/2020 09:08

Congrats on the movement @MummyShark97 how exciting!

@roro87 I get a lot of back ache and cramp to - I think some of it is wind as well!

Scan today at 2pm - today is going so slow already! But it's with the doctor so that should be reassuring. Plus only 2 more days till we finally see our new house (hopefully!)
Sending love to everyone 🥰🥰🥰
