It looks great @roro87. I’ve seen a double buggy second hand that I like too but we’re considering moving house from our small London flat so I’d have to store it here (taking up more room in an already crowded place). Tough decisions!

ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 09:26

@chubbyhotchoc so exciting to feel those first movements, I've got a big smile plastered across my face after reading your post. We are well into our pregnancies now ladies 🙌 can't wait to feel my two, I know it'll be very soon now as getting those feels. One has a posterior placenta and one and anterior but with being squashed together I think that it might be a week or two so before I'm sure of those kicks

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 09:28

@excitednerves shout out to the second hand double buggy, I'm definitely going that way. Mine will still cost a fair amount but will be a hell of a lot cheaper then new.

These bloody basinets 🙄 they look cute in them and everything but the d things last all of five months if you have a long baby and then they are redundant !

OP posts:
firstbabybell · 06/06/2020 09:35

@chubbyhotchoc that's so exciting!!! I can't wait to feel baby move. I'm chubby and it's my first so probably after 16 weeks I've read.

If anyone is suffering with back pain I'd really recommend this yoga video. Been doing it a few times a week & the back pain seems to have gone for now. No idea if it's the yoga or just one of those things...

excitednerves · 06/06/2020 09:47

@ChampooPapi yes! I’m after the bugaboo and there’s no way I can buy a new one. Also looking at the Mountain Buggy Duet. I think the bugaboo might have better resale value though and things like the bassinets can be sold when you’ve finished with them.

ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 10:02

@excitednerves the bugaboo is a really good one by all accounts, but I'm definitely going for a mountain buggy duet as it's the slimmest for side by side and it won't fit though my front door or porch otherwise! Or on my local pavements as they are very old-fashioned and not very wide going up the highstreet

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 10:04

@excitednerves bloody things still going to cost like 400 pounds though 🤦 it's a purchase I will not enjoy as I'm literally looking at my perfectly serviceable mountain buggy swift right now with all the accessories preserved upstairs....weep 😂

The world loves a curve ball doesn't it!

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 10:11

@kkr168 exciting about your scan, 16 weeks is a brilliant time to get one, breaks the wait up and the photo will be gorgeous.

@roro87 is it eBay or gumtree? Because a courier will be cheaper then driving whether you arrange it or the seller does. I think Gumtree are doing deliveries on all items due to caronavirus, but worth getting a courier quote.

Mine is 400 too and I think for a fairly immaculate egg and a very new mountain buggy, that is a very fair price.

Message them and check they will except courier, because it really is no different from your collecting it. Definitely don't drive 6 hours!

All the have to do it box it up, it should only cost about 30 pounds to send/receive ☺️

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 10:15

Obviously those prices are for full travel systems.

My swift I brought solo with a broken wheel cost me 15 pounds 🙌 the carrycot I brought separately ended up being 4 times that much!

Sometimes separately buying the components can be good though if you have plenty of time to check eBay and Gumtree, and def if your in a city where these things constantly come up.

Where I am now is an absolute desert compared to Bristol.

Obviously I brought a new car seat but screw doing that again this time, I'm borrowing my friends one as my second. She brought the thing new and hasn't been in any accidents with it, the woman doesn't even drive so I don't think it's had much use!

OP posts:
roro87 · 06/06/2020 10:33

@ChampooPapi I'm buying it off done deal it is a site in Ireland where I live so I'm not sure how much the courier cost would be for such a bulky item but really want to view it first to ensure good condition. I will look into couriers and see how much they are

nearlyamummyof3 · 06/06/2020 10:51

Think I've found my triple buggy!
It's suggested for childminders and nurseries! Very good reviews and can take the toddler bit off once they are walking or in nursery which I really wanted.

Only £650 brand new which I think is good so probably can get it a very good size used. Of treat myself to new.
😊

We are viewing are hopefully new house on Friday and putting an offer in as well so all falling into place - can't wait to start nesting!

@ChampooPapi I got the bioderm cream you recommended and it's amazing so thanks 🙏

Hope everyone is well today 🥰

chubbyhotchoc · 06/06/2020 10:57

These all look like great deals. The only thing that worries me about second hand is what do you do if something goes wrong with it? My silver cross that I bought new, the wheel fell off and I was stuck miles away from home with a three wheel pram. I actually lost the wheel as it fell down a grid. I was able to get it all replaced because of the guarantee but not sure what I'd have done if second hand. I did get an uppababy when she was bigger so I'm hoping to go straight for one of those for this one but they seem to have increased a lot in price since I had one.

Awkes · 06/06/2020 11:00

Congratulations @chubbyhotchoc and @nearlyamummyof3 sounds like it’s all happening! Can’t wait to catch up and feel baby for the first time! I too have a belly already so not sure how long I’ll have to wait as still feeling very much fat rather than pregnant 😂
Has anyone had a hauck? I’m a big walker and heard they’re very good just waiting for shops to open to try before I buy. Also need the spare room emptying 🙄 I’ll be single handedly stocking the charity shops in my area as soon as they open. Dying to get it empty so I can start filling it with baby’s things

roro87 · 06/06/2020 11:05

@chubbyhotchoc I think that is part of the risk you take. My bf is quite handy has fixed my suitcases etc so I'm not as worried by that too much. If it means I can save 900 or so. I was really struggling to justify it but really wanted one this way I get what I want without paying 1300

Got it for 350 in the end

ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 12:06

@nearlyamummyof3 fab, so glad you like it, great for the little ones too and you can use it anywhere and everywhere. Bioderma is 🔥

@chubbyhotchoc all the parts are easily brought and replaced now with any of the Buggies, especially the wheels or inner tubes ect. This is why I love mountain buggy because you can literally replace every single part so easily, from the wheels to the frame, the handle, to tiny screws. Obviously that adds an extra cost but it's nothing compared to the Mark up on these ridiculous items 😂. They have gone up in price the last few years that's for sure, my travel system would be over a grand and a half. But It definitely depends on your budget or if it's a first baby and will get more use, so I totally understand people who buy new.

My partner is incredibly handy though so I'm lucky, when we got our swift with no front wheel for 15 pounds and the frame was all bent where it joined he picked up a new wheel from Phill and Ted's and the surrounding frame for fifty pounds and fitted it all so it basically was brand new again, in fact the wheel was foam filled so it was better then new.

I must admit I am INCAPABLE of doing anything like this. I'm holding my hands up, it is all him. I can't even fold up most of my buggies for months after I get them 🤦

I am not good at any kind of mechanical things. But there are videos on YouTube for all these things.

MummyShark97 · 06/06/2020 12:11

@chubbyhotchoc wow!! that's so amazing... I can't wait to feel movements but really don't know what to expect - can imagine it's one of those 'you know it when it happens' type things???

lovely to hear x

ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 12:15

@roro87 great you got it for that price! I mean you could literally pay for someone to fix it with that saving.

Buggy's just do not 'sell on' that well. They are like cars in that way, once it's used even for a few weeks you are not going to get more then a few hundred pounds for it even if it was VERY expensive. So definitely don't buy one with the outlook you can sell on for much, yes they are sold all the time and I'll be glad to even get a hundred for this duet in a few years once I've used it. But because you often use buggy's for a good few years they become the older model almost immediately. And alot of people who are buying second want either a bargain, or the newist/newish model. So that mid range selling can be hard second hand.

A shiny new buggy is absolutely delicious, so if you've got the budget and don't expect to make much of a return or just want to keep for a few more children then it's absolutely lovely to get a new one for sure. And economic if you are planning of a few kids after this baby.

I got a new silver cross stroller as a treat a few years ago because they are not that pricey and it was brill getting something new. It has now been abused so much though it will definitely end up in a skip rather then on Gumtree though!

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 12:16

Oh that's also true, you could get the second hand travel system as alot of it you use for such a small amount of time.

Then get a new stroller instead

I think alot of women do this as the stroller will last for years and is much easier to travel about with ect

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 12:19

Or alternatively make sure you get a travel system that converts to a really really excited stroller. So no small wheels ladies! They are a NIGHTMARE over anything that isn't pristine tarmac

OP posts:
ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 12:20

*excellent

Not excited!

My phone is excited today ☺️ must be hotchocs feels with the baby movement still 💖

OP posts:
RestorationInsanity · 06/06/2020 12:22

So nice hearing everyone talking about feeling baby move. The NHS start for life info says lots of first time mums don't feel movement until after week 20 but I'd love to feel something before the next scan, just for reassurance.

ChampooPapi · 06/06/2020 12:26

@nearlyamummyof3 🙌 love it. That is absolutely perfect! Your toddler will still be using a stroller for a good while yet, even in a year he'll still need to be pushed sometimes on longer walks and when he's tired

OP posts:
PipTed · 06/06/2020 13:42

On the subject of baby items, those with children already - what are the absolute essentials for us first timers? Obviously travel systems are a must; what about next to me cribs and Moses baskets? Any advice or other essentials?

Feeling overwhelmed with all the stuff out there, but don’t want to waste money on things that we won’t use. 🙈😊

chubbyhotchoc · 06/06/2020 14:01

@PipTed there's two threads running on baby essentials in 'pregnancy' topic if you want to take a look at that. I'm planning on a next to me crib upstairs and letting baby sleep in the pram downstairs in the day or in the sling. I'll get a bigger cot later
