My mom was the same @WiseOwl. She also knits a lot so I had loads of blankets. However the most useful present I got was a snow suit. I used it every day. I am happy I am having this baby in the same month of the year as my first. I have all those wintery bits.

MrsR87 · 03/06/2020 11:44

I am holding off of buying things until I can visit the shops. As others have said as I am a FTM, I really want to see things like a pram and car seat berofre I buy them as I literally have zero clue!

However, judging from the mad queues I have seen on social media and the news, I think I'll wait a few weeks!

I don't want to but anything until my 20 weeks scan anyway.

FilthyforFirth · 03/06/2020 11:56

I'm the same, also waiting until after 20 week scan. This is my second so jave things like moses basket, sleepy head and furniture. Going to redo DS room and give the baby his stuff as it looks brand new still.

Also hoping to do it in person if possible. New car and car seat are top of the list!

Well no news on work yet, but here's my bargain purchase! I'm really pleased with it 😍

16w appointment this morning, waste of time! I'd been asked to go in by the receptionist when I'd booked it but when I got there midwife said it should have been over the phone. Did my BP just because I was there and that was it, booked in for 25 weeks. I wasn't expecting a lot from today but even if it'd been a phone call I think it'd have lasted 30 seconds! 'Your bloods were fine I'll book you in for 25 weeks'
Ah well, scan is the next thing to look forward to in just less than 3 weeks...

Hancock2020 · 03/06/2020 14:31

For heavens sake is my company going to leave it until 5PM to tell me!?!?!
I'm going nuts! This is just CRUEL!

Natalie6543321 · 03/06/2020 15:10

@bluebell94
My 16 week appointment was over the phone, and was the same, just bloods are fine and that's it.
I have my 24 week appointment but have told that will be over the phone too... don't know when I am going to actually see my midwife!!

Hancock2020 · 03/06/2020 15:10

Redundant

Hancock2020 · 03/06/2020 17:02

If anyone has any ideas on how I can get some (safe) temp work so I can at least claim maternity allowance because I wont even get maternity pay I'd be grateful 🥺💔

NatalieH2220 · 03/06/2020 20:01

@Hancock2020 So sorry to hear this! I don't know a huge amount about it but if you can't get SMP you may still be able to get maternity allowance. I hope you manage to find something else soon

Peeeas · 03/06/2020 20:04

Been lurking as my due date is 9 Nov - reassuring to see others coping with lockdown pregnancy.

@Hancock2020 how many weeks do you think you're short re maternity allowance? If you were going to qualify for SMP then maybe not that many? Any chance your notice period will push you to about 25 weeks or so (so that your current employer would have to pay SMP)?

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/06/2020 20:23

So sorry @Hancock2020 Sad were you working for a while before this? Maternity allowance is calculated on having worked 26 weeks over the 66 weeks before baby is due, so quite a long period. Any chance you fit that?

Upalln1ght · 03/06/2020 20:27

@Hancock2020 so sorry to hear this.
I lost my income due to the pandemic having a huge affect on the industry I work in. I understand it's devastating and I really hope you're OK.

Have you checked the Maternity allowance calculator on Govt website? You could still be entitled to Mat allowance as you don't have to have a current employer to receive it. Fingers crossed this is something that can help you.

HarrietM87 · 03/06/2020 20:35

@Hancock2020 as pps have said you will likely be eligible for maternity allowance at least. Our son’s nanny left us in December (her choice - she was moving away) and found out she was pregnant in Jan. I’ve recently sent her all her old payslips so she can claim maternity allowance even though she wasn’t employed by us (or anyone) during her pregnancy.

Hancock2020 · 03/06/2020 20:43

Thanks all for the maternity allowance advice, I've got DH checking it out because I cant think straight.
I'm only 15 weeks so am 10 weeks short for smp. But it's a kick in the teeth, I was with the company for 3 1/2 years.
