Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering how everyone's weight gain is going?

I'm not particularly worried but I do feel like I should have put more weight on than I have.

I'm almost 18 weeks and have gained a total of 2lbs. My BMI was 19 pre-pregnancy so just normal. I had no morning sickness what so ever. I'm also a really unhealthy eater which is know is terrible. I basically live off carbs and crap and really struggle with fruit or veg.

I'm sure in a few weeks I'll be worrying that I'm gaining too much!!!

Sweetpea1985 · 22/06/2020 13:20

I weighed myself 2 days ago and I've gained a stone! 😲 was not expecting that!
I'd rather have it that I'm not gaining alot, I dont fancy the prospect of losing all this weight after baby

MrsR87 · 22/06/2020 13:23

My BMI was 22 pre-pregnancy and to be fair over this past year before pregnancy I've gone up about 10 pounds...just because I've relaxed about what I eat and how I look a bit more 😀. Over the past 19 weeks I've put on 3 pounds which is a lot less that I thought! I'm sure some rapid gain is coming my way soon!

Bluebell2020 · 22/06/2020 13:28

I think I need to prepare for it to all pile on at once! By 20 weeks most of my friends had gained at least a stone and some more than a stone but I know you shouldn't compare yourself to anyone else!

I'm just really surprised as I also have such low activity levels! Probably should be happy I'm not gaining much.

Oatmilk1 · 22/06/2020 13:30

During the first trimester I didn't gain any weight at all. I wasn't particularly ill just nauseated. I do think some of it is loss of muscle as well. Since the start of May I have started to gain weight... about 3.5kg.

People gain weight differently.. some gain early and then level off, some gain late. And the scales are notoriously unreliable indicators because they can't differentiate between muscle and fat. Until your midwife is concerned, don't worry about it!

@Sweetpea1985 if this is any use I’ve got this monitor - www.amazon.co.uk/BT-Video-Baby-Monitor-5000/dp/B01MUWU2XY?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 - I was also feeling overwhelmed so just copied a friend. It’s not the newest/most expensive one that BT do but it does the job for us. It has a video and you can move/tilt the camera remotely which is handy. It plays songs and you can talk to the baby but we’ve never used those functions! I just wanted something basic that meant I could see and hear the baby. I didn’t want one that linked up to my phone or anything like that.

FudgeFlies · 22/06/2020 14:24

I’ve also put on over a stone! Was quite a shock!

Sweetpea1985 · 22/06/2020 14:43

Thanks @HarrietM87

I've just had a letter come through to say my work place is closing down and I'm being made redundant. Wonderful 👍

Isthisoveryet · 22/06/2020 14:43

Just need a little vent - found out we’re having a DS this time (already have DD). Over the moon and excited but I’m already sick of people saying ‘you’ve planned that well - one of each!’ And ‘you must be so relieved to have one of each’. People are so strange. I’m biting my lip not to be short in my replies because I know they don’t mean it badly, but we’ve only ever had babies in the hope of healthy children!

SqidgeBum · 22/06/2020 14:56

@Isthisoveryet people say the strangest things to pregnant people. I have had 3 people say 'are you sure it's not twins?'. My MIL has said it 4 times. Talk about making me feel like a whale. I say just bite your tongue for some people and then others who push things too far, give them a bit of a verbal jab.

HarrietM87 · 22/06/2020 15:17

@Isthisoveryet people just want something to say I think. That’s partly why I didn’t find out first time round because whenever you tell people the sex they feel the need to make some boring stereotyped comment! I’m having a girl this time and already have a boy so have had similar. But tbh it’s worse when you get two of the same sex and people react like it’s a bad thing. Especially with two boys it seems 😡. I’ve had 4 miscarriages, 3 before DS and 1 after and couldn’t care less about the sex of the baby as long as they’re healthy!

The other one I love is “was it planned”? Like, are you really asking me if I had unprotected sex by accident?!? 🤣

MillieFTM · 22/06/2020 15:33

Haha yes I've had the "was it planned?!" Why is that even a question?!? People are so strange sometimes!

SqidgeBum · 22/06/2020 15:43

I have already been asked 'so are you going to have a third?'. F off. I havent even had this one.

Also, my MIL told me the day after we said we were having a girl that I have to 'try again' as I will have 2 girls and if I dont have a boy it's the end of DHs family name. I told her to 'take one for the team and go again herself'.

futuredreams · 22/06/2020 15:44

I've been a little concerned over my weight actually. I haven't put on any weight. And since my booking scan I've actually lost a few pounds.

Pinktruffle · 22/06/2020 15:49

@Allstarxo I'm having the same as you colour wise with discharge. I did Google initially but I know it's a dangerous rabbit hole to go down so have just tried to assume it's normal. As you said, there is no odour or pain so I'm thinking it's normal?
I have seen mentioned on here that if you take Pregnacare tablets, it can make your discharge slightly yellower and I am taking those so will put it down to that.

Bluebell2020 · 22/06/2020 15:50

My manager asked me if it was planned!!!! I also asked her If i could speak to her somewhere confidential when i was trying to tell her and in front of the whole office she said "you're not pregnant are you"!!

Not that it would be any of her business either way but I would understand her reaction more if I wasn't married and what not 🙈

Wigglebum87 · 22/06/2020 16:24

Just back from 20 week scan, everything looks good, so relieved Smile baby was laid with hands over head with knees touching elbows!

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/06/2020 17:46

Oh gosh @Sweetpea1985 that’s so stressful. Will you get a payout?

Isthisoveryet · 22/06/2020 17:49

That’s a shame a lot of you are also suffering the ridiculous questions and comments. Now we just have to wait for the ‘is anything happening yet?’ wind up merchants in a few month’s time!

SqidgeBum · 22/06/2020 17:52

'Is anything happening yet?' is nothing compared to the moment your MIL tells you to give her son a 'good shag' and that will 'get things moving'. That, or versions of that, will come in waves in about 20 weeks for many of us.

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/06/2020 17:54

To all the last few pages!

  • Discharge! Soo much and like snot, constant the whole way through but somehow still surprising.
  • Feeling baby move - nothing definite yet, but the odd pop and flutter I sense might be. I’m a FTM and 19+4. I have a definite small bump now though so something is definitely growing in there!
  • Weight gain - 5lbs so far, I started at a BMI of 28 and still am now. But I’m healthy and largely eat a good balanced diet (apart from the few weeks of food aversion I had) so I’m not too worried, especially as this coincided with lockdown and losing my roughly 8000 a day commuting steps.
  • 20 week scan is next Tuesday and can’t come soon enough. Feeling really strongly that I just want my baby here now yet I’m barely half way! I know it’ll go quickly. It’s also looking like I’ll be back at work in August and it’ll be great to get 3 full payslips before maternity leave as I only qualify for SMP (though we can live happily on just DH salary when he’s on full pay, but I’m still hopeful we may be able to buy next year.
  • No one has asked me if we were trying/was it planned, because it so obviously was. I’m 32, got married last year, and have been vocal about wanting children for years now.
Sweetpea1985 · 22/06/2020 17:55

@Buffalocauliflower only about a grand for 4 years service which is awful.

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/06/2020 17:59

@Sweetpea1985 that’s crap I’m sorry. Are you in a tricky industry? How are you placed to be on a single salary, I know that won’t be the same challenge for everyone

Isthisoveryet · 22/06/2020 18:06

@SqidgeBum your MIL sounds like a character Shock

Amiz · 22/06/2020 18:14

So I've had my 20week scan and I'm having a little boy. I'm amazed how average his measurements are everything was plus or minus 2%.
All very exciting. I'd got really anxious about the scan and convinced myself something was going wrong
