@Jhampson01 no you're not unreasonable. I feel the same way and so does DH. We have been together for 11 years and so have talked about this moment for ages now. We had so many plans like a baby moon to Spain, telling our friends and family in person, spending weekends wandering round shops looking at all things baby.

Was so excited about NCT classes too, as we live away from the majority of our closest loved ones and it would have been great to get to know more people. Now we have to rely on online courses which isn't the same but still could work nicely.

I feel guilty in some ways for feeling like this as it seems selfish, and I know people are experiencing a lot worse. But I keep reminding myself that it's my pregnancy and I'm allowed to feel a bit rubbish from time to time because of covid and what it's stopped myself and everyone else doing.

Hopefully November will bring a bit more normality for us so we can all celebrate with loved ones over the holidays!

wannabebump · 18/06/2020 09:23

@OurLittlePumpkin I do 😀 it's not our family car though, it's just my wheels for commuting and doing the shop really. There's a seperate thread on MN and there's some good pointers on there 🙂 also, have a look at Fiat Forum x

The right pram so massively depends on your lifestyle so I recommend asking people who are similar to you what they use and why it’s good! We don’t have a car so don’t have to worry about fitting it in the boot etc but I can imagine having to build it up each time could get annoying! I was obsessed with getting one that folded small and in the end we never fold it - it just sits in our hallway. I am really happy with it though because it’s light and narrow so great for public transport (we live in London).

Congrats on the recent scans - mine is tomorrow!

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/06/2020 09:25

@OurLittlePumpkin would it not make most sense to buy a bigger car? Unless you live in central London and very rarely use the car, you’ll outgrow the Fiat in no time. A 3 door with a baby isn’t great either, tricky to get them in and out

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/06/2020 09:26

@HarrietM87 exciting! I can’t wait for mine now, 12 more days. Just praying everything’s ok.

HarrietM87 · 18/06/2020 09:27

Re covid ruining our pregnancies, I think it’s been rubbish but I’m really hoping things will be ok by next year and we can at least have lovely maternity leaves. I have quite a few friends who gave birth at the start of/during lockdown so while they got all the pregnancy yoga etc they haven’t been able to introduce their babies to family or friends which is horrible. If I had to choose I’d rather our situation with at least some hope of normality once the babies are here 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

If anyone does want more detailed (and slightly OTT but very infomative) informative on carseats, there is a car seat Facebook page called 'car seat advice UK'. Its very difficult to post there as it's so busy and they take about 2 weeks to get to you post if you submit it, but there are thousands of posts you can search through to find information. I used it to pick my new carseat for my 18 month old during lockdown.

OurLittlePumpkin · 18/06/2020 09:30

@wannabebump my hubby works in London so he's never needed his own wheels and I have a short commute so it was ideal for us when I bought it. Thanks I'll check out some more posts.

@buffalocauliflower this is another thought I've had, I'm just trying to workout costs. I've done a quick quote on webuyanycar and it's worth more than I thought. I'm still paying it back on a loan so I wouldn't get the full amount it's worth as I'd have to pay back the loan first. So I need to see how much I'd have in order to buy a new one/well a used bigger one!!
So much to think about 😂 we will definitely grow out of it and my hubby is over 6ft so it's not ideal!! It comes down to money I guess.

OurLittlePumpkin · 18/06/2020 09:32

Yes congrats on all the scan results!!! So many baby girls ❤️ wonderful news.

I still have a strong feeling ours is a baby boy. Don't ask why, just do!!

Mine is in 11 days and it's all I can think about.

wannabebump · 18/06/2020 09:36

@OurLittlePumpkin we're sticking with ours, at least in the short term. Financially, it doesn't make sense for us just now x

OurLittlePumpkin · 18/06/2020 09:40

@wannabebump that's good to know as we realistically will stick too, at least for the first year. I've read lots of articles and forums where it works well for people and they haven't had any problems so hopefully it's OK!! We really don't use the car too much anyway it's just for shopping and visiting home - worst case we can rent a car for longer journeys or just upgrade when it's financially viable x

Fouryearslater · 18/06/2020 09:45

Another car seat pointer, if you’re not buying a travel system, I’d highly recommend investing in a spinning seat now (or as a next seat if you do have a travel system). Babies might be compliant in going in, but toddlers aren’t 😂 once they get heavier it’s much easier not having to twist to get them in the seat.

FudgeFlies · 18/06/2020 09:47

@Jhampson01 I was also wondering about the mat b1 form - anyone else got theirs yet?

Jhampson01 · 18/06/2020 09:47

@HarrietM87 @ourlittlepumpkin It does make me feel a little better to know I'm not the only having these feelings. But you're right there are many people in much worse situations. We'll just keep our fingers crossed that the next 4 months bring more chances to do things we can't right now and we can enjoy a lovely mat leave.

I had the same feeling about having a girl....=I was just certain she was going to be a girl...couldn't explain it, it was just an overwhelming feeling. Best of luck with your scan!

SqidgeBum · 18/06/2020 09:56

Oh ye I second the idea of a 360 car seat if you dont need a travel system car seat. I thought I would use the car seat in the buggy a lot but my DD slept better when she was lying down so I used to just transfer her into the flat pram. You can get good 360 car seats that rear face from birth to age 4. They are so handy!!

HarrietM87 · 18/06/2020 10:12

Agreed re spinning car seat! My mum and in laws both have Joie ones for my son (mum has a non isofix - I think it’s called Every Stage, in laws have the 360) and they’re brilliant - birth to age 7 I think and you can rear face to age 4.

We got a free maxi cosi pebble when we bought our pram and it was handy to be able to clip it on as we used taxis a lot when he was small enough to fit into it. Again really depends whether you have a car and how you use it! They’re not meant to be in carseats for more than 30mins as newborns and more than 2hrs once they’re older, so I suspect for many people the ability to wheel the car seat around is less important than you might think.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/06/2020 10:26

@OurLittlePumpkin we buy any car will pay you less than other places, they want to make a profit when they sell on, so I wouldn’t necessarily go with them. Could you part exchange it? Or sell yourself through autotrader?

NS34 · 18/06/2020 10:27

@SnowFan I am also expecting my first on 10 November and have my 20 week scan next Thursday. We are in Scotland too, close to Dundee, the only relatively local place to us for prams is Smyths but I don't think they have a huge selection so we may need to travel further to look at some. I have a few friends with young kids so hoping to get some advice from them too

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/06/2020 10:29

And yes, we’ve gone for a travel system so have the small car seat, but I don’t imagine we’ll ever put it on the pram chassis even though we can. Not good for them to be sitting in the car too long. Though the 30 minutes bit does slightly stress me out, DH sister is 45-50 mins away and we go there fairly regularly, his parents are 40 mins ish away too. Do I need to stop and get baby out half way?

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/06/2020 10:31

I think we’ll look at the swivel seats when they move out of the small one

OurLittlePumpkin · 18/06/2020 10:42

@buffalocauliflower I've missed the chance to part exchange with the company I bought it from as my 4 years plan is up so now I just pay the balance through a loan. I will take a look at auto trader thank you for the suggestion x

Murphy1999 · 18/06/2020 10:52

My midwife told me that I'll get my mat b1 form at my 22 week check up (Scotland)

Also anyone on dispensable aspirin ?

OurLittlePumpkin · 18/06/2020 10:57

Any online shoppers John Lewis has a great sale on atm inc. brands like Sleepyhead, bugaboo, tommee tippee, baby joules etc xx

SqidgeBum · 18/06/2020 11:04

@BuffaloCauliflower my inlaws are 45 mind away and we just drove straight up. We kept the trips to a minimum for the first 8 weeks, so maybe once every 3 weeks and then they visited us, just so it wasnt a regular thing for her to be in the car seat for very long. I used the flat pram when walking around shops so she wasnt in the car seat for long there either. Every now and again going over the 30 mins is fine once you lay the baby somewhere flat when you get to your destination, but I wouldn't make it a regular thing.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/06/2020 11:15

@Sqidgebum thanks that’s reassuring. I don’t think we’ll be going anywhere before Christmas, so baby will be 6ish weeks depending on when they arrive. They can come see us just fine, and tbh I’d like to keep visitors to a minimum in the early weeks, even without Covid!
