@Hancock2020 sorry just catching up with the feed. We have ordered out furniture from silver cross, we got the Notting hill cot & draws as we have fitted wardrobes in our other spare room which we have made space for baby... they are due to arrive end of the month.. although we have ordered online we have seen them in store prior to lockdown and they looked good quality 🙂

Hancock2020 · 13/06/2020 17:47

So went shopping lol, sorted bottles and steriliser and got another bargain on my changing bag £50 bag for £15 😁👍 need as many bargains as I can get lol

SqidgeBum · 13/06/2020 18:18

2nd time parents who bottle fed, what do you think about reusing bottles? My DD is 19 months, and only stopped having bottles about 2 months ago. I still have the size 1 teats. I have always sterilised the bottles. Do you think it's ok to use these bottles with the new DC, or get new ones?

Hancock2020 · 13/06/2020 18:50

When I had my second I reused.
Cant this time round with 12 years in between lol.
As long as they arent in bad condition as in deep scratches etc, just get new teats, and sanitize.

OurLittlePumpkin · 13/06/2020 19:17

@hancock2020 where would you recommend finding bargains? I haven't really started to look but would appreciate a few tips/websites that you've found useful!!

I'm now wallowing in the bath using some of my new lovely oils. Heaven!! I can really start to see why a water birth is a good idea 😂

NatalieH2220 · 13/06/2020 19:25

@SqidgeBum I'll be reusing the bottles if BF doesn't work out again and just buying new teats for them.

Hancock2020 · 13/06/2020 19:27

Well I used facebook market place for my pram if you're not needing brand new you can save about 50% or more. My pram should be about £800 brand new, even second hand they are £350 but I managed to pick it up for £100 just by watching facebook all the time.
My changing bag was a happy accident in boots lol, someone had moved the bag onto a shelf saying reduced to £17 and it was the last one, but when they scanned it the price was way more so I queried it. The manager agreed to honour the price I thought it was because it was the last one, then with my boots card got it down to £14.
But like I say if you dont mind second hand for stuff facebook marketplace is the BEST.
The monitor I want is £150 new or £30 on facebook.
It all depends on what you want.
The bottles I bought was the dr browns starter set so has 5 bottles, teats, bottle brush tongs and steriliser and that was only £50, you normally pay at least £20 just for the steriliser. And that's for a new set not second hand, also in boots.
I've always been quite a bargain hunter as I've never been blessed with lots of money lol.

I think like @Hancock2020 says local sites like Facebook ones are good because you can check stuff out in person and if you can collect you don’t pay postage. But saying that I’ve also got loads on eBay in the past.

There’s also a lot of stuff that they market for babies that you don’t necessarily need, or you could wait until the baby is here before buying if you find you do need it. Stuff that loads of people buy that we never had or needed includes: changing bag (used a backpack which was easier as we carried him in the sling a lot), nappy bin (we had a normal lidded bin and took smelly ones straight outside), rocking/swinging/vibrating chair (just had a basic bouncer), nursery furniture (normal chest of drawers), bottles/breast pump/sterilising equipment (ended up ebf so didn’t need any of that, could easily have bought it later if I’d needed it).

Hi all, I’m just after a bit of advice please. I’ve just bought a couple of bargains from Gumtree - a maxi cosi car seat and base for £25 and a chicco next to me crib for £80, both are in excellent condition so I’ve snapped them up but then I’m second guessing whether this is ok or not? I know the importance of using a new cot mattress etc and it will just be the crib base il be using not the sheets that are being sold with it. What’s your thoughts on this? Any advice is appreciated!Smile

MrsR87 · 13/06/2020 21:34

@CoBell

For me the crib is okay as long as you get a new mattress and sheets. However. I would say the car seat is a big no no. You have no idea if it’s been involved in an accident and if it has, it will not be safe! It’s the one thing I think you should always buy new.

SqidgeBum · 13/06/2020 21:36

I agree it would be ok with the crib once you change the mattress and sheets, but I would never buy a car seat second hand as you dont know if it has been in a car accident. I would always buy car seats new.

CoBell · 13/06/2020 21:39

@MrsR87 @SqidgeBum thanks both, I did think that, I think I just saw it and got a bit carried away! Thank you for your advice.

MrsR87 · 13/06/2020 21:52

@CoBell

No worries. Better to realise now. I think you’d be thinking about it if you hadn’t asked 😀

Oatmilk1 · 13/06/2020 22:02

@CoBell

Maybe the carseat base is still useful for you though - these are often sold separately from the seat itself and I think are not the part that needs replacing if in an accident. (??)

I may be completely wrong here as I havent looked into car seats much but I noticed the bases could be expensive so you may still have gotten a bargain!

CoBell · 13/06/2020 22:11

@Oatmilk1, thank you for your comment. I’ll have to have a read up about it Smile

LozEliza · 14/06/2020 06:50

Not sure if anyone is on the look out for leggings but H&M are doing 25% off an item of choice for members so I just ordered myself some of their maternity leggings for £7.50

Hancock2020 · 14/06/2020 09:05

Had such a terrible nights sleep last night, couldn't settle because of my scan today, and I was constantly going to the bathroom. Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight.

Pink15 · 14/06/2020 09:21

@Hancock2020 good luck!! Is it a private gender scan?

Hancock2020 · 14/06/2020 09:31

@Pink15 it is yes, I'm so excited! And it'll be the first time dh has seen baby since the 8 week private scan we had where it was just a blob lol so it'll be lovely for him as well otherwise he'd miss them all, even though I've got to have a load extra scans

wannabebump · 14/06/2020 09:45

@Hancock2020 good luck with the scan today

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/06/2020 09:48

Hi all! Just checking in, I somehow lost grip on this thread!

@Hancock2020 exciting! Hope it goes well Smile I asked DH if he’d want to do an extra scan as he hasn’t seen baby since 10 week private scan, but he said no, save the money! He says he’s already bonded so doesn’t need a scan. Have you got a preference for the sex?

We’re not doing a nursery, we’re basically having two rooms for us and baby. Baby will be in our room, spare king size bed will stay in the other room if DH needs to escape. Will get some extra drawers that match the Ikea range we already have and split across both rooms so it’s all the same should we move things around. Expecting baby to be in with us for at least a year so don’t see the point of losing the spare bed that’s more needed. I’m also mildly hopeful we still might be able to buy next year so we’ll see.

My 16 week appointment ended up being accidentally in person as I was in seeing the mental health midwife (I have a serious history but been well for the best part of a decade, they’re great in my area so just being careful) and she said I’ll just do it now. Was so good to hear the heartbeat! My blood text for baby’s blood type came back inconclusive though (Im A-) so having the anti-D anyway.

I’m 18 weeks now but still not feeling anything. I know 20 weeks is the average for FTMs but I’d really like to feel something now. Any other FTMs feeling anything?

We bought a travel system yesterday though. Bit keen but the one we liked was going to sell out and is old stock so won’t be replaced, so we just went for it. 3 weeks till anomaly scan and I can’t wait.

SqidgeBum · 14/06/2020 09:54

Good luck with the scan @Hancock2020. I have my scan on tuesday and I think I am already nervous. I am feeling very stressed this morning and cant put my finger on why. I noticed a lot of movement on Thursday and not much since. Having another kid really distracts me and I dont notice anything throughout the day. On DD I watched for every movement. I am worried about lack of movement already! This was a constant worry for me with DD.

Hancock2020 · 14/06/2020 10:13

I would love a little girl again but DH would like a boy, but as long as its healthy 🥰

Hancock2020 · 14/06/2020 12:00

It's a girl! 🥰

Clove20 · 14/06/2020 12:31

Congratulations @Hancock2020!!!
