@Clo1997cc ah lovely! 💖 Yes we will find out the gender too, My gut feeling is a boy!

FilthyforFirth · 08/06/2020 13:29

Haha I knew that I was twinned with someone with pink in their username but there are quite a few in this thread and I couldnt remember which one!

Excellent news @Pinktruffle. Are you planning a scan beforehand or no? I am unsure. DH would rather wait until the 20 week one as he thinks he might be able to come by mid July.

I am more and more thinking about a section. I know what to expect, and my recovery was really good actually.

Pinktruffle · 08/06/2020 13:51

In my letter for my 20 week scan it specifically said I had to come alone so we have booked a private scan because DH was pretty upset about it. We have a scan booked for next Tuesday, 2 days short of 17 weeks.

Hancock2020 · 08/06/2020 14:02

Its just a little cleaning job, nice mon to fri 8 till 4. But stupidly earning the same money as I was working 50-60hours a week doing 12 hours a day. I even told them I'm pregnant and it wasnt an issue

Pinktruffle · 08/06/2020 14:23

Congratulations @Hancock2020, I'm happy for you and it's fab that you get the same money for way less hours :)

wannabebump · 08/06/2020 15:38

Congrats @Hancock2020 that's great news.

Sorry for not replying to all the scan replies when I asked the Q - not been on since. I'm the 29th so some scan buddies in there! Someone also asked about next midwife appointment? Mines is at 22 weeks but I'm also in Scotland same as @Crispaddict99.

My 20 week scan letter also says to go alone and I don't think it'll change by the time the appointment arrives. X

It is nice to hear that so many of you have arranged private scans. I live in Wales so all the private scan places are closed and we are still only meant to travel 5 miles from home. I am having some extra scans because I have a rare bone disorder so they want to check the baby is growing ok, I had one at 16 weeks which they let me record which I really appreciated. My husband is really sad he won't get to go to any of the scans but I don't think there is anything we can do.

Has anyone seen/tried Secret Savious band to avoid/reduce stretch marks? secretsaviours.com/pages/effective-stretch-mark-prevention It looks interesting but is pretty expensive so don't know if it will be worth it. I'm already massive at 17 weeks, I've been growing half an inch every week since 12 weeks now at 36 inches so judging by that I'm going to have an enormous bump so I guess I'll get bad stretch marks if I don't try something.

@Hancock2020 Congratluations on your new job, that must have taken the pressure off!

Hancock2020 · 08/06/2020 15:48

@Caldey11 yes it has, like I say I'm glad we didn't withdraw from the mortgage now, it's cheaper than renting by about £300 a month. And I still get furlough pay from old place until 31st July and redundancy on top so we will be fine, it gives DH more time to get a job as well knowing there is some money coming in. Even though its bruised his ego, we just had an argument about his ego 🙄 because he's been In a mard with me about getting this job.

Wise0wl · 08/06/2020 16:14

Great news @Hancock2020!

I’m really pleased that people have had good experiences of Window to the Womb, I’ve booked to go there with DH on Saturday so he can experience a scan (and if baby’s playing ball we can find out what we’re having!)

HarrietM87 · 08/06/2020 16:23

@Caldey11 I’ve posted about this before on this thread - you can’t do anything to prevent stretch marks and none of the commercial stuff works. See here for an explanation of why not: www.babycentre.co.uk/x563006/how-can-i-prevent-stretch-marks

The NHS website says the same thing. It drives me mad seeing companies trying to profit from vulnerable pregnant women!

Whether you get them or not is genetic. Did you get them when you went through puberty? Did your mum get them? The only way to minimise them is to minimise your weight gain, but obviously within healthy limits for the baby.

Personally I had loads in puberty so expected them in my first pregnancy. I didn’t actually get any until I went overdue so if he’d been born on time I probably would have managed to avoid them! They were very red (I’m v pale) but have faded now and are almost invisible.

BeMorePacific · 08/06/2020 16:28

@Caldey11 unfortunately it’s seems to be luck of the draw. My sister has 2 children and no stretch marks, she didn’t use any oils/creams.
I used them all in my 1st pregnancy and I have lots of them. I’ve never had SM’s before. But it honestly doesn’t bother me.

MrsR87 · 08/06/2020 16:52

Thanks for all the tights recommendations guys, I’ll have a google later.
@Hancock2020 Great news about your job, so pleased for you 🥰

OurLittlePumpkin · 08/06/2020 17:10

@Hancock2020 congrats what a relief!!

FlashesOfRage · 08/06/2020 18:36

@OurLittlePumpkin

I’ve got a retroverted uterus too, about 25% of women have it and normally in pregnancy the uterus rises automatically as it grows and takes on a normal anterior (forward) position by 14-16wks 👍

Incarcerated uterus is super rare and occurs something like 1 in 3000 pregnancies, if you had one you would most likely know because it tends to cause serious urinary retention! Your urethra basically gets squished shut and that’s how most women with the problem get found 👍

As you can see I did a whole lot of research because I was super worried it would happen to me lol 😆

You can ask the sonographer at your next appointment to confirm the position for you, I did at my 12 week scan and she thought I was bonkers to have worried about such a rare thing but I was glad because she confirmed the position and showed me on the screen 👌

There is another sort of indicator you could go by, if you were developing an incarcerated uterus your cervix would be miles up and towards the front of your body. When the uterus is in the right position during pregnancy your cervix will be high but very far towards the back of your body xxx hope this helps 😘

OurLittlePumpkin · 09/06/2020 09:04

@FlashesOfRage thanks for this. Nice to know someone else on here has one too!

CoBell · 09/06/2020 09:53

@FlashesOfRage, thank you for that information. SmileThis is something that I found out I had too at an early scan which had to be done internal.

OurLittlePumpkin · 09/06/2020 10:01

@cobell I had an internal scan at 13 weeks and anticipating one at 20 too. Wasn't as bad as I thought, think I was so excited to just see my baby I didn't really think it over at the time!

Addler · 09/06/2020 10:05

I'm the same, actually quite liked having an internal as it meant I got really nice images!

OurLittlePumpkin · 09/06/2020 11:36

@Addler yes the images from internal scan are fabulous so that's a big positive.

Today's craving - babybel and cold cuts of turkey and pork. I've had 4 babybels already and wrap the meat round them.... 🤣

Can't believe I'm going into week 18 on Thursday 😱

FilthyforFirth · 09/06/2020 12:49

Well at 15+6 it has finally happened. Been admitted to hospital for my HG. Will be getting iv drugs for the next 24 hours. I am in a private room and everything is super clean and all staff wearing masks etc. I thankfully dont have to keep mine on when I am in here on my own.

I am not looking forward to the canula but hoping once it starts I can get some sleep. Havent slept more than a few hours each night due to the nausea so utterly shattered.

Very fed up in general. November seems to far away.

Murphy1999 · 09/06/2020 13:00

@FilthyforFirth sorry to hear that, I hope your feeling Better soon x

CoBell · 09/06/2020 13:06

@OurLittlePumpkin, babybels wrapped in turkey sounds delightful!

@Addler I had an internal scan at 10 weeks and yes the images were so clear! I was fine with an external scan at 12 weeks and I’ve just recently had an 18 week gender scan which was also fine external so I’m hoping my tilt is beginning to sort itself out as the baby is growing bigger! Smile It’s nice to know there’s a few of us on here as I didn’t even know it was a thing!

USER18888 · 09/06/2020 13:21

Hi Guys, new to thread. I'm due 25 November so 16 weeks now. First baby and best news in these strange times! Grin
Has anyone actually met their midwife yet? I have an appointment tomorrow and they are yet to confirm if its via telephone or in person.

Addler · 09/06/2020 13:37

@FilthyforFirth oh you poor thing. I hope you feel a lot better once you get some fluids in you and can test properly, it sounds awful. You must be so tired and fed up.

@cobell I didn't know I had it until I was early 20s and read it on a discharge report after I was admitted to hospital with ovarian cyst pain. Unfortunately I'm also large of belly (not pregnancy related) so two things that made my 12 week scan difficult to do externally! Hopefully my 20 week scan is easier.

I'm not sure if mine has tilted forward yet as I've been getting horrible back pain which basically means unless I spend most of my day sitting or lying down I have to drag myself around the house holding on to furniture. It's like my legs just won't work. I've been referred to a gynae physio so holding out for that!

SqidgeBum · 09/06/2020 13:38

@FilthyforFirth I am so glad they are finally doing something! Its been ridiculously long for you.

@USER18888 I havent met my specific midwife. I have met midwives at my booking in bloods, and I met one at my 16 week appointment, but my actual midwife is shielding, but she is also a maternity cover, so I will have the original midwife back before I am due. Its a complete faff haha. I just say hi to whoever happens to be there or call me. At the end of the day, you dont see your midwife for the birth anyway.
