I've just had my 20 week scan appointment through this evening and it's on Father's Day, which seems extra special as we will hopefully find out the gender that day, but also so sad that DH still won't be able to come in with me.

CoBell · 06/06/2020 20:24

Good Evening all, I hope you are all doing well! I had a private scan today at Window to the Womb as they are doing the gender as part of the scan again! My 20 week scan is booked for 22nd June but I really wanted my husband to be able to be there when we find out the gender. Scan went perfectly, all is looking good and we are expecting a little girl! SmileSmile

Pink15 · 06/06/2020 21:51

@SMcG1 I might try it as also worried about tearing but the idea of it does gross me out a bit lol. My friend said it was painful the massage 😖

SMcG1 · 06/06/2020 22:30

@Pink15 when I first heard that it was a massage I thought that can’t be bad until I looked up how you do it!

futuredreams · 07/06/2020 00:11

My 20 week scan is on the 25th. I'll be 21.5 weeks and won't have even seen a midwife in person until then. Not even a phone appointment at 16 weeks ...Is that not a bit strange? Nobody has talked to me about birthing plan. Maybe that comes later. Wish my scan was on my 20 weeks so I could relax a bit more. X

FlashesOfRage · 07/06/2020 01:31

@Hancock2020 What’s going on with your lady bits!? Grin I’m finding my bits just feel engorged all the time and kind of heavy, just feels weird.

My 20wk scan is on June 15th and I am sooooo excited/anxious lol
Can’t wait to find out the sexes for sure but also scared because it is the anomaly scan afterall!

NatalieH2220 · 07/06/2020 06:42

@futuredreams It's the same here. There was the booking in appointment with the midwife (over the phone) at the very start and next appointment is at 28 weeks now! I've booked a couple of additional private scans this time for reassurance just to help break it up a little.

SMcG1 · 07/06/2020 07:40

My midwife told me my next appointment will be at 22 weeks but everyone on here seems to be later. Does it just depend what trust you are with?

16more · 07/06/2020 07:55

Hi everyone just jumping on this thread now. I'm 18 weeks and have low papp a. Feeling really anxious and disappointed that we can't see midwives till 28 weeks. When my leaflet came through about having low papp a it talks about being measured regularly and 4 extra scans needed. I'll only get 1 extra scan and obviously no measuring. Gutted about not hearing heart beat as well. Did some googling last night and found you can get a single private midwife appointment for £160 Is it mad that I'm considering that??

Crispaddict99 · 07/06/2020 08:23

@SMcG1 My next midwife appointment is at 22 weeks as well. I'm in Scotland. I think it does depend on which trust you come under. Most people are a lot later than that x

SMcG1 · 07/06/2020 08:50

@Crispaddict99 I’m also in Scotland so maybe they just do it earlier here

SqidgeBum · 07/06/2020 08:54

In my trust if you are on your first baby you see the midwife at 24 weeks and again at 28 weeks. If you are on subsequent babies its 28 weeks only for a low risk pregnancy.

Redbellblue · 07/06/2020 08:59

Hi all,

Hope its OK to join! I'm 16+3, I have a private scan next week to find out the gender and my 20 week scan is the first week of July 😊 I'm also low PAPP-A and will have some extra scans which is comforting.

Anyone else experiencing a lot of hip and lower back pain? It seems to be early morning I feel it and it doesn't matter which way I turn it doesn't go away until I get up. I though I had a couple more months before experiencing anything like this!

Murphy1999 · 07/06/2020 09:04

My 22 weeks appointment is on my 22 week mark and I'm also Scotland

Hancock2020 · 07/06/2020 10:05

@FlashesOfRage mine just feel so swollen! It's so hard to explain, sore and swollen, to the point of I cant wipe any more I just have to gently dab dry 🙊 and when I pee it feels like theres loads of downward bearing pressure.
I've just finished a course of amoxicillin as docs thought maybe a uti but I feel like I should go back (for the 4th time now!) I just worry they are going to start getting pissed off with me because they cant find anything wrong but it's not in my head, unless it's literally just pregnancy. But I dont remember being this uncomfortable with my other pregnancies!

Pink15 · 07/06/2020 10:30

@16more it might be cheaper to book a private scan than a private midwife appointment? The window to the womb scans are around £60. They let you listen to the heart beat and I've seen some people get the heart beat recorded and put inside a teddy bear and when you squeeze you hear it 😋

16more · 07/06/2020 10:49

@Pink15 that's a much better idea thank you. Looks like it'll be about £100 cheaper to do that. Has anyone done this recently at window to the womb and know if partners are allowed too?

Hancock2020 · 07/06/2020 10:51

Yes they are allowing partners in at window to the womb

FilthyforFirth · 07/06/2020 10:51

My 20 week scan is July 13th so not last for a change! Unsure about booking a private scan beforehand.

I will be having a hospital birth. Had an elective csection with first as he was breach. Really not sure this time round. Last pregnancy so would like to try a natural birth but terrified of tearing/doing permanent damage.

LozEliza · 07/06/2020 11:27

Does anyone else's stomach make a lot of gurgling noises when baby starts moving around? I randomly start feeling taps/muscle twinges and then my stomach will start gurgling as well as though the movement of the baby is pushing around air bubbles. I definitely don't think it's wind I'm feeling cause it's a different sensation and in a different place.

MrsR87 · 07/06/2020 12:46

Hi all

Looking for some advice on tights. The reviews I’ve read on many maternity tights are pretty poor and they seem very expensive. I’m just wondering whether going up to the next size in regular tights would work?

I’m freaking out because I’ve been told by my work (secondary school) that when I’m in every day with the year 10s, I’ve got to wear a clean outfit every day. Not a problem usually, as I have so many...but already none of them fit! Currently I have one pair of trousers...I spent 4 hours looking online and essentially apparently, all pregnant women can wear to smart places is black trousers! I don’t want to buy more of what I have! So I bought a pencil skirt and I already have a few suitable dresses, so now I’m hopefully good to go.

However, when I wear a dress or a skirt I prefer to wear tights, so any advice is welcome! Thanks

Beccarans89 · 07/06/2020 13:11

@MrsR87 I haven't tried them myself but my friend is pregnant and really rated the H&M maternity tights, have you looked at those? Not sure on price but she was really happy with the fit. If not, I'm sure sizing up would work to allow for bump. 😊

Pink15 · 07/06/2020 14:25

@MrsR87 I have Dorothy Perkins maternity tights and not much bigger than normal tights to be honest but they do have 2 seams down the front rather than 1 for grow room. Tights sizing is always difficult as they are more about length of leg rather than waist size. In hind sight I probably would have been better just getting maternity leggings under my dresses

Pink15 · 07/06/2020 14:26

The quality of DP are good though I got the thicker denier

Hancock2020 · 07/06/2020 14:40

Try snag tights
