Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

@fool11 ah okay. I'm in Sevenoaks so 30 mins in the other direction

AncientandPregnant · 08/06/2020 06:51

Can I join? @PregnantPorcupine pointed me in the direction of this thread.

I’m accidentally pregnant and nearly 42. It’s very early days as I’m somewhere around 6-7 weeks and due end January. By the time this baby is due I will be 42 and a half and my DH will be 49.

We have three kids already who will be 14, 12 and 8 when the baby is due.

I’ve never been so scared in my life. Three years ago I ruptured a disc in my back leading to agony, an air ambulance evacuation from a small Greek island and emergency spinal surgery. Ever since then I’ve had back pain and Sciatic never damage. Carry my handbag wrong can send my back out so what’s pregnancy going to do? I feel very, very old!

On the other hand I adore babies and my older kids found out and are over the moon.

I’d love a support group who are a similar age.

I’m London based.

footprintsintheslow · 08/06/2020 07:37

What a shock @PregnantPorcupine nice to meet you though. I'm feeling my age too at 40. I'm far more exhausted than I've ever felt in my life.

I'm in South Wales.

Frazzlerock · 08/06/2020 08:37

Morning all.

Welcome @AncientandPregnant

Nothing to report from camp Frazzle. Just had a chilled weekend crocheting more of the blanket which is slowly coming along nicely. Although it's a bit more holey than I had hoped, but not bad for a first project.

I weighed myself this morning. 4.5lbs up from last week's shock discovery of a 2lbs of whatever it was I was stressing about Shock I guess this is it now. Time to accept and embrace the weight gain. I'm not even eating that much more than usual. But not doing any exercise at all and I usually run a lot so it's no surprise really. Hopefully it'll fall off quickly like it did with the boys, even though I'm a million years older.

How's everyone doing? Good weekend?

Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 09:43

@AncientandPregnant I'm the same I had disco suregery 5 years show and also panicking about how my back will take the weight of a baby doesn't help that I'm 39 now also, so I'm really worried ... I'm hoping if I rest an awful lot then I won't be too bad but I'm really really scared x

Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 09:44

@AncientandPregnant disc surgery not disco 😂 I also have awful sciatic pain and scar tissue pain the presses on the nerve ... hopefully we will be fine x

AncientandPregnant · 08/06/2020 09:54

Thanks for the welcomes. I am still getting my head round everything but starting to feel a little excited.

@Clarkel1 that sounds exactly like my back issues. How many weeks are you now? Have you had any issues? Do you wear a support band.

Frazzlerock · 08/06/2020 10:16

I don't envy you with the back issues @AncientandPregnant I get a sore lower back without existing issues. Maybe something to discuss with your GP or midwife when you see her? Perhaps some physio may help even slightly while you're pregnant?

I've just had an email from my recurrent MC team and have finally been offered another scan. I didn't tell them we gave up waiting and had a private one! It's on 17th June so it will be a week and a half after my private scan. I feel awful taking up an NHS scan but I really want to take it. Is that bad? I just feel it will break up the weeks to 20 week a bit more.
What do you think? Am I a bad person?

PregnantPorcupine · 08/06/2020 11:16

Hi all, and welcome @AncientandPregnant Smile

@Frazzlerock - not a bad person at all! The NHS scan is just what you should be having. The private one is an added extra, it's not one or the other.

My weekend was nice.. Managed to get in a little bit of gardening before the obligatory extended afternoon nap 😴. Also finally decided on a doula - it's a big commitment for us, both financially and in terms of trusting someone we've only met over zoom, so I feel better now the decision is made. She seems lovely so🤞

Sheera1 · 08/06/2020 11:39

Hi @AncientandPregnant lovely to here from you. I hope all the pregnancy growth hormones will actually help your back rather than the opposite. Thinking positively for you.

@Frazzlerock that is great on the scan. They should be scanning you giving your haematoma (if that is the right word) so deffo take it and don't feel bad. The private one was good and peace of mind but the NHS are the primary carers and need to do their job.

I have gained about 5 pounds overall. Mainly eating crap to survive but has been fluctuating a pound up and down for a few weeks and no more.

@PregnantPorcupine oh a doula sounds fab.

In my news after two texts unanswered by my midwife and I tried calling her to no response I called the main midwife team as still don't have my NT combined results (almost 4 weeks).

I have come back low risk at 1:2653.

I think that is good?? Still worrying a wee bit. What did everyone else have? We only screen for downs in Scotland not the other chromosomal ones.

NIPT 3rd try should come back this week. I think it will fail again and will just need to be satisfied with the nhs low risk.

@Frazzlerock like you I feel it is yonks till 20 week scan (or rather my 21 week scan as everything is behind)

OP posts:
Frazzlerock · 08/06/2020 11:45

@Sheera1 finally yo got your NT result! That is a great result! I think anything more than 1:250 or 300 is considered high risk so you are well out of that. I really hope your 3rd go at NIPT comes back so you can have more peace of mind but I would accept that as a great result. Did they say anything about the NT measurement when you had your scan? I can't remember if you said already.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/06/2020 12:17

@Sheerer1 that's a fantastic result! Really you can stop worrying! Your baby has a 0.0377% chance of trisomy. Or putting it another way a 99.9623% or not having trisomy.

Sheera1 · 08/06/2020 13:08

Ooh I like it when you put it that way @onlyreadingneverposting8

Thanks @Frazzlerock! I am starting to feel a little relief.

They didn't tell me my NT but after they did it I had the notes whole waiting for consultant and had a look and it said 1.7mm at 12 +6.

I think that is a normal measurement?

What are we like eh? 10 years ago I didn't question anything. X

OP posts:
Frazzlerock · 08/06/2020 13:14

@Sheera1 1.7 is well below max, which I think is 3.5mm. I think ours was around the same and our Harmony score was 1:10,000 - our NT was much higher but still low so I bet you'd get a similar result with Harmony.

Frazzlerock · 08/06/2020 13:14

I mean NIPT - I'm sure you knew what I meant!

Sheera1 · 08/06/2020 13:51

Lol. That is reassuring and yes sound alike my NIPT might have been similar. If it has failed again this week I think I will just take the refund and be happy with that though the extra peace of mind would be lovely. Xx

OP posts:
Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 14:24

@Sheera1 are you sure they don't screen for the other things in Scotland, that's worrying 😞I thought they did.
@AncientandPregnant I am 9 weeks been ok so far but I know what's on the way 😞

Sheera1 · 08/06/2020 17:12

Hi c @Clarkel1 checked my ready steady baby book and yup only downs in Scotland. Not great really. She only gave me the one result today too which was the 1:2653. Hoping the NIPT comes back as it does the other two chromosomal syndromes.

They will do an in depth anomaly scan which is good I guess. X

OP posts:
Clarkel1 · 08/06/2020 18:32

@Sheera1 I had a look at the clinics and they say none of them are offering the moor in Glasgow just now 😞

stairgates · 09/06/2020 08:35

Sheera 1.7mm is a perfect size :) I think all your numbers are looking excellent!

Sheera1 · 09/06/2020 14:12

Ta Stairgate. Feeling better about it today. I think I got myself worked up that the nhs ones weren't accurate and so initially was still a bit worried. I wouldn't question it at all if I as younger so it sure why I am.

Anyone getting overwhelmed and seduced by all the millions of baby products out there??

I shouldn't even be buying a thing just now but I found a Babybjorn bouncer really cheap on marketplace and the lovely lady is giving me her noses basket and stand for free that she hasn't used. She is moving to Oz so clearing out.

Might take her Next to be crib too as think that is the one I want and would buy 2nd hand anyway.

What do people think of the sleepyhead? Even 2nd hand they are like £80. For a pillow???

Anyone have one and can say what is so good about it? I quite like this alternative thing in the attached pic. I can get one for £30 new.

So bedazzled with everything! Anyone else?

Decided my must have are

Babybjorn babycarrier
Some kind of next to bed crib thing
Video and movement monitor

Hey @Sheera1 The Lullaby Trust don't recommend pillows like this. This document is quite helpful. It's a product guide with items they recommend and don't recommend
www.lullabytrust.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/The-Lullaby-Trust-Product-Guide-Web.pdf

Bear in mind I'm massively paranoid these days and probably would have considered a Sleepyhead when I had my boys xx

fool11 · 09/06/2020 15:14

Ladies, are you going for vaginal delivery/induction or were you offered a c section due to age? I'm down as high risk, due to age 45, ivf and first baby born small, so they want the baby out by 38/39w at the latest (have scans every 2w as it's there was a big drop in growth in last 4w). They 've mentioned the induction but currently only doing the mechanical balloon induction in my hospital, would need to stay overnight, they would brake my waters in the morning, wait for 4h and then do a drip if things don't progress. I read that 1 in 3 inductions end up in emerg. c section, so not sure i want to go through whole induction process and then have to have a c section anyway..hoping to have a sweep at 38w and really hope it will work (it did with my first). Really don't want to stay in hopsital for long. If sweep doesn't work just thinking whether i should just go straight for planned c section, without the whole induction palava...any of you in a similar position? just really confused and not sure what would be the best..

stairgates · 09/06/2020 15:20

39 week sweep planned for me. 2 babies back I had an induction that ended in c/s, my last baby was no induction and natural delivery but with epidural, Im trying to avoid the epidural this time. If the sweep worked for you last time then I would give that a go first, its hard to know what to do for the best isnt it:)
