Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

That is fab @onlyreadingneverposting8.

I feel you on the scans. After my mmc scan I couldn't look at scan pics on fbook or on tv shows without crying for ages. I am so nervous everyone I get too.

My blood redraw means another scan and like you DP gets to come. Other than the devastating MMC scan he has never been to one. Hoping all is well for us both and DP's get a lovely look this time.

You and I have our anomaly scans on the same day. I am actually 21 weeks when they do it so a bit pissed off really that all my appointments are a week behind. Especially when we are higher risk and time is actually important. My 16 week appointment is just over the phone too (or rather my 17 week appointment).

That is 💩 you are still being sick. My horrid day long nausea stopped a few days ago. Still get a bit right before mealtimes but it passes when I eat. Still lots of food aversions.
Hope you have a lovely scan experience tonight. Xx

@Sheera1 you're 4 days ahead of me - or what my due date should have been by my lmp rather than scan! I am jealous of those four days!

@Frazzlerock how did the consultant appointment go?

Frazzlerock · 02/06/2020 16:28

My anomaly is on the 10th July too! I'll be one day over 20 weeks.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I'm not surprised you booked a scan, we are trying to get one for 16 weeks but my consultant is ignoring me after saying she would try (or rather her secretary is) so I think we will book a private one.

Consultant was just formalities really. He didn't mention my age, which I thought he would do. He spoke to me about my underactive thyroid and said mine is well below the max so all good for now and will be retested when I go for my 20 week scan, then again at 28 weeks.
He said, given my previous c-sections, the safest option for me would be another c-section as my uterus would be too weak to try vaginally, even after 11 years. He did say my options can be discussed at 34 weeks but I will go for the rooftop option. I just want my baby out safely, none of this "I need to be earth mother". Just get him or her out alive please!

That was it really. Oh and he was 50 minutes late with no mention of his tardiness Hmm

Clarkel1 · 02/06/2020 16:54

@Sheera1 so what does the test involve? Is it invasive?

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 02/06/2020 17:24

@Frazzlerock bad he was late with no apology!! I don't mind waiting but a polite apology should be offered. Good to hear he didn't mention your age - Tbf even my GP after my last baby (I was nearly 41) said it really isn't uncommon anymore. Totally agree re the c section - baby safe, mum safe - all that matters!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 02/06/2020 19:29

Little update from scan! All going well - measuring right for dates - Tummy dead on and head 2/3 days ahead. So so relieved! Until tomorrow...when the anxiety kicks back in! 🤦🏽‍♀️

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 02/06/2020 19:30

Oh and sonographer thinks girl!

Frazzlerock · 02/06/2020 20:17

Great news @onlyreadingneverposting8 🙌

What made the sonographer think girl? Do you think they knew? Or a guess?

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 02/06/2020 20:27

@Frazzlerock we thought girl anyway tbh and I asked if could he have a go at looking as I'm 15 weeks - promised not to hold him to it given it's a bit early! There was no evidence of penis!

Sheera1 · 02/06/2020 20:48

Wooooo a wee pink one. I think I guessed pink? That is a lovely relief for you onlyreading. Can't believe the consultant was so late and not even an acknowledgement. 🙄

Lots of news for you me and Frazzle on the 10th July. How funny we are all same date. I think I can't really remember my due date anymore. It keeps changing. LMP it is 16weeks on Thursday but measuring a few days behind.

@Clairyd121 the NIPT is just two vials of blood taken. No biggie and you get a lovely scan too. X

I guessed girl too!Grin

Welcome to all the new ladies :)

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/06/2020 06:28

Yep! Everyone was right! I had a feeling girl - just the way I've felt.

Funny we are all July 10th - did the NHS say "let's get the oldies in on the 10th"? 🤣

PregnantPorcupine · 03/06/2020 07:45

Aw, that's lovely @onlyreadingneverposting8. Mines a girl too ("or a boy with a very small willy" - in the words of the doctor 😂).

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/06/2020 08:10

@PregnantPorcupine I want your doctor! 🤣 They sound like they have a good sense of humour and I think that's really important!

Counting down to start waiting for the consultant to ring today - anytime between 9 & 5 - the stress of making sure I'm by my phone constantly it going to be enormous! I'm so bad for putting it down and leaving the room without it! And it always rings when I do that!!!

Frazzlerock · 03/06/2020 09:14

Morning all.

@onlyreadingneverposting8 haha it is funny that we're all on one day.
I hope you don't have to wait too long for the phone call. I have my phone connected to my watch so I feel my watch buzzing when my phone rings. It helps enormously!

I really need to sort out a private scan, I keep convincing myself that our baby is dead. I keep lying down and concentrating REALLY hard to see if I can feel any movements but I get nothing. He/she was so active in my scans that I cannot believe that I can't feel something the size of a orange moving around. I realise it is early and most women don't feel anything until about 20 odd weeks, but this is my 3rd pregnancy where I've reached nearly 15 weeks, surely I should feel something?
Maybe I should stop being so impatient, but it will be the only way I will feel comfortable that things are okay and I'm tired of all this worry.
I will book it today. Then it'll be the countdown to scan worry! Maybe I'm better off not knowing!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/06/2020 09:50

@Frazzlerock I haven't get movement yet! I am exactly the same...so much easier to be a little more reassured 20 weeks plus with definite movement!!

The consultant has rung and confirmed what I thought...I should have been face to face as I need clexane. So she's sending me out an appointment to come into the clinic! Bloods were good though - don't need iron! Relief on that front as it makes me nauseous and upsets my stomach (I think I'm the only person it doesn't give constipation) They gave me the fumerate preparation once, which is meant to be more gentle and within 2 hours I was violently sick and couldn't get off the toilet!! And I'm still nauseous anyway!

Frazzlerock · 03/06/2020 10:03

It's reassuring to know you're not feeling movements either @onlyreadingneverposting8 It's such a limbo time isn't it. I just wish so much that recurrent MMC hadn't made me a bundle of nerves. I just want to enjoy this pregnancy as it is my last.

So is the clexane just because of age? Is that what was explained to me before? I may have got that wrong! I only ask as my consultant didn't mention it.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/06/2020 11:24

@Frazzlerock feel the same way re mc! I've had 5 altogether 3 straightforward and 2 mmc. And this is definitely my last - I've asked my tubes be tied if I have a c section. I can't go through more mc at my age!

Clexane is given to prevent DVT on a points system. I score for age, parity (number of babies), family history and gross varicose veins (love that description!!)

Frazzlerock · 03/06/2020 11:35

Ah yes, I remember now re clexane.

I'm tempted to ask for tubes to be tied when I have this one cut out of me. There is no way in hell we can go through another loss, that's why I'm so para about this one. I should be confident that we have passed our 'danger zone' of 9 weeks but still.

Right, tel me if this is bonkers or normal. I've just been quoted £150 for a scan at a well recommended place about 20 mins from me. Several people on my local FB group recommended them as I didn't want to use one of those shop front style scanning places that are popping up all over the place.
But £150!?
She has said
"We check baby is completely healthy and growing and you get a full written scan report and also small video clips sent to your phone and you can find out gender (its sex FFS!) if you wish, we charge according to how far pregnant you are and what we check"

Juts seems a lot, no? I thought they were more £70/£80?

Frazzlerock · 03/06/2020 11:44

I've just spoken to DP and he said go for it, so I guess we will. Eeek!

PregnantPorcupine · 03/06/2020 12:06

@Frazzelrock - I paid £65 for a "quickassure" scan (the most basic one they offer I think) from Ultrasound Direct so you can get the cheaper but it depends how much detail you want I guess.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 03/06/2020 12:29

@Frazzlerock I paid £55 last night but I've been there before and it was £79 last time. I think the range £55 - £90 would be reasonable - £150 seems a lot. Private anomaly scans are more but that's understandable as they are more in-depth.

Frazzlerock · 03/06/2020 13:26

Oh well. We've committed now. She seems pretty legit to me. Just hope we get the result we want and don't have to walk away with awful news and a big dent in our purses.

MD78 · 03/06/2020 13:39

I am 42 , my twins are due in August. Very excited since I don't have any children

PregnantPorcupine · 03/06/2020 13:55

Congratulations @MD78!

@mine was the absolute basic scan so I'm sure you get a lot more for that money.
