Hi all. I wasn't wanted to hijack any threads on hear with specific questions, but wondered if anyone fancied a chat thread for us classed as mature mums to be? Anyone who feels they fit in that box are welcome to join.

I will start. 🌞

I am 41. I have a 10 year old ds and one mmc 3 yrs ago. New partner is reason for the gap.

I was very shocked when I found out as we had assumed that ship had sailed as no joy since mmc. Head was in that camp and was quite a shock to come out of it.

I am 13 weeks based on my scan later Friday. Awaiting NIPT results hopefully today or tomorrow. Been cautious after mmc but hard to not get so attached as the weeks go by.

My first purchase if all ok will be a pregnancy pillow.

Honestly I feel massive already. I am very overweight but was with ds and had a perfect fuss free pregnancy. This time I am so 🤢 and tired and feel just ill from 4pm onwards.

Instead of it easing up, last night I was still feeling 🤢 trying to sleep and was very uncomfortable due to feeling like my womb is massive.

Anyone else feeling like this? Goodness knows how I will be weeks from now. Eeek.

Hi ladies, can I join too please? I'm 40 and currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I've been reading your posts for the last few weeks and getting a lot of reassurance from them. It's such a stressful time! I don't have a bump as yet and no movements either. I know that's pretty normal at this stage especially for FTMs so trying not to worry myself too much. But it's hard. .. Roll on 3 weeks when I have my 20 week scan xx

Sheera1 · 01/06/2020 13:43

@crisp yes welcome. You are just a couple weeks ahead of me (will be 16 weeks on Friday). I think you will start feeling wee movements soon. I have been for a wee while unless it is gas lol. I think as this is 2nd time round I know what they are this time or just have a very active baby.

My "bump" keeps coming and going. I have a big belly normally and tbh I am convinced now that it is linked to bloating and things moving up the way rather than actual baby. X

@Sheera1 I don't recall much about rather NT I don't even think it was mentioned to me, I presume they would only let me know if there was an issue that would need to be investigated further. Am the same as you over think things, hope you're feeling good! When is your due date?

Sheera1 · 01/06/2020 17:00

They would have done it at your 12 week scan but they would have asked you if you wanted screening for DS.

I am due 20th November xx

Hi everyone hope you don't mind me joining I'm 39 and currently 8 weeks pregnant, so what test etc for birth defects has everyone had I must admit I am quite scared because of my age 😔 I am totally wiped out and exhausted the indigestion I have is awful as well 😆 what's everyone's thoughts on being an older parent? I have an 18 year old and 10 year old so big gaps 😐 anyone else done this? Congratulations to everyone 💗

Crispaddict99 · 01/06/2020 17:35

Thanks @Sheera1 Yeah I'll hopefully start to feel something soon. Although I've been pretty gassy so not sure I'll notice the difference! 😂

If you could see my belly right now, you'd think I was 6 months pregnant but I know that by tomorrow morning, it will have almost disappeared. My mum told me to check out Rochelle Humes Instagram. The difference between her 18 weeks and 20 weeks bump. Hopefully that will happen to me soon and then I'll stop worrying so much! xx

PregnantPorcupine · 01/06/2020 17:52

Hi all, could I please join the thread? I'm mature ish (38) and due my first at the end of July (31 weeks tomorrow if I've counted right - keep losing track!). It's all getting a bit real now..

footprintsintheslow · 01/06/2020 18:57

@Crispaddict99 @PregnantPorcupine hi lovelies I'm 40 and have a 20 year old and 2 year old. Lovely to see you here.
I am worried about higher risks because of my age but trying to not dwell on it. My two year old was an easy pregnancy and birth and low risk for all tests so hopefully this will be the same.

Sheera1 · 01/06/2020 20:22

Hi @Clarkel1 and @PregnantPorcupine.

I have a ten year gap. One ds and 15 weeks. I think we all worry about the risks at this age even though tho odds are still pretty low. I had Nuchal Transparency test 2 weeks ago with nhs and still waiting on results (was told 4 weeks). I went for a private NIPT test (aka harmony test) 4 weeks ago and the test has failed twice as not enough fetal DNA. Having a 3rd go on Thursday. NIPT looks at the actual chromosomes in the fetal DNA which float in your blood so is very accurate. NHS one is not. It is more a finger in the air based on some factors and our age bumps up the odds big time. It is expensive though at £400.

@Crispaddict99 I am going to check out those instances bumps. Yes mine us def being full and bloated. I can def feel the baby moving though. Always at the same times. Like a wee bubble bursting on the inside of your tummy or a little nudge. If I press in he/she will often nudge back! 😊❤

@Sheera1 where do you get them? Is it at clinics? I had a high risk come back with my daughter but I was only 29 then so I don't know what will hold out with this one, I was really worried back then but it was ok after in depth scan etc... it's very stressful 😔

EveningReflection · 01/06/2020 21:07

I did a NIPT (the SAFE version which is done in a UK lab, rather than sent abroad) with a local private midwife (found via Google). She came to my home on sunday to take the blood. Cost £345. Im based just south of london, though I think prices are similar across the country.

Ethellsmum · 01/06/2020 22:10

We had a high risk result from our combined screening. In the end we declined any further investigations.
As my due date is getting nearer I’m getting a little bit anxious about it. We had a high risk result in my last pregnancy too.

PregnantPorcupine · 01/06/2020 23:33

We had testing done via "this is my nipt" I think it was around the £400 mark but we had the price reduced a bit as we didn't have the scan (it was the day after my NHS scan anyway) . I lost my first pregnancy in a MMC at just over 11 weeks so was very worried and wanted to do everything possible to check this one would be ok.

footprintsintheslow · 02/06/2020 07:30

I'm in Wales and we get the combined test done and if it's high risk result we get offered the NIPT test next. Not sure if it's different in England and Scotland?

Frazzlerock · 02/06/2020 07:32

Morning all.

Just popping my head in to say hello to the new people.

I have my obstetrician appointment this morning over the phone. No idea what to expect really. It's been a long time since I last spoke to one!

Also, after putting on zero weight my entire 1st trimester (I weigh myself most mornings), I have literally put on 2.5 lb overnight Hmm
I have a wedding dress to get into 4 months after I give birth (was supposed to get married in April but obvs was cancelled), I hope I don't balloon. I put on 3 stone with each of my boys!

AliasGrape · 02/06/2020 08:12

Morning everyone.

That’s exciting about the wedding frazzle, though sorry it was cancelled. I was about 8 weeks pregnant when we got married and very bloated, luckily the dress was very floaty and forgiving!

I’ve just had chocolate for breakfast Blush Not a good start to the day. We’re redecorating downstairs so no furniture in the lounge all in the kitchen so we can’t really move around down there, so last night DH was munching a bar of whole nut and kept offering me some and I was being all saintly and refusing. So he left it next to my bed and it was there winking at me just now whilst I was drinking my tea. Oh dear, salad for the rest of the day!

Frazzlerock · 02/06/2020 08:32

I'm sure chocolate for breakie won't hurt you. I seem to have lost the desire for chocolate which is really weird for me as I eat it every single day usually. Got a whole drawer of bars of choc and I can't seem to bring myself to open it. I'm far from a saintly though, I seem to be living off toast and bread with loads of butter on.

We were so gutted about having to cancel the wedding. It came after we lost our 4th baby too and 4 years of shit landing on us, so it just seemed like the world was against us at the time. But the universe has finally decided to give us a break for once after that thankfully. Long may it continue! Just gives us more time to plan our big day and now we will have a special little guest Grin

Sheera1 · 02/06/2020 09:50

@Frazzlerock we are so separated at birth lol. We were meant to be married this July and it has been cancelled. I will have 7 months to lose weight and fit into my dress. I already had to lose weight to get into it a bit more comfortably. Just hoping insane motivation strikes after the baby is born 🤔😛. @AliasGrape my dress is floaty and forgiving though too so fingers crossed. We have totally ripped up our plans and having a much simpler and cheaper event. Hoping lots of family on hand to help with our newest and littlest guest too.

Weight wise I out on 6 pounds instantly likeneithin a wee or so. It then all came off again. I now seems to fluctuate around 4 pounds throughout the week. I weigh every morning too. Like @frazzle I am off the taste of chocolate too. Chocolate cake is fine but a bar of chocolate is not. I am feeling much less sick these days but still have some food versions.

@Clarkel1 I am in Glasgow and went to Ultrasound Direct. It was £400 with a scan (usually £70). I think Babybond are another? It is a UK London Lab. @PregnantPorcupine my last was an mmc at 12 weeks so I totally understand the worry.
@footprintsintheslow that is great Wales offer it for high risk NT. Totally should before an amnio.

I stupidly went on google to look at research of NIPT tests failed and especially failed twice. Stupid stupid stupid.
Only 1% fails twice.
Reasons are-

  1. High BMI means a lower fetol-placental amount in mums blood (I tick that box)
  2. Blood thinners (I have been taking aspirin)
  3. Too early so not as much fetal blood (my first was 11 weeks so possible but my last one should have been fine)
  4. If it fails twice there is a much higher chance there is a chromosomal anomaly (😭😭😭 yup stupid stupid me googling)
  5. Some people are magic unicorns and the test just doesn't work (I must admit this is a high possibility for me 😊)

Oh wow, yes we are indeed @Sheera1 I'm wondering what we will do with the room full of wedding stuff, which is actually the baby's room, once baby arrives. Everything was ready to go before we cancelled weeks before our big day.

Ooh, its hard not to google isn't it. I think you're a magic unicorn, try and ignore the other info xx

AliasGrape · 02/06/2020 10:37

@Sheera1 I definitely think you’re a magic unicorn 🦄.

Xx

Thanks all. I think so too 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

@Frazzlerock same with the wedding stuff in the spare room which will be the nursery. I have jars and crates and a pallet which is our seating plan. Tee hee. No clue where it will go!

Clarkel1 · 02/06/2020 11:15

Sheera1 · 02/06/2020 11:18

Checking in! Still feeling awful and was sick again this morning! 😨🤢 I've caved and booked a scan for this evening. Was meant to be at the hospital for a consultants appointment tomorrow morning and was expecting them to listen in on the baby but I received a call this morning saying the appointment would now be done over the phone (not convinced this isn't error and I will only be speaking to a midwife....) Anyhow, Amy anxiety that things are still all ok isn't going to last out until July 10th (anomaly scan date). So I've managed to get a private scan for this evening. I have ptsd from previous scans but on balance think this is probably the better option. At least the scan place has said DH can come in!!
