Early pregnancy worries

Hi all, I got my first BFP with first baby on Saturday and am roughly 5 weeks pregnant... my question is has anyone else experienced little to no symptoms at this early stage? Yesterday I felt exhausted, headache and slightly hung over.. I am going to the loo a lot and have had some mild cramping at the start of the week but today I feel nothing. It has made me feel quite anxious today as a lot of people keep telling me sickness etc is a sign of strong hormones . Anyone else had similar experiences?

Yes, completely. I’m only 7+5 but have been the same since I found out at 4+1 (plus sore breasts). My cramping went away after week 6 I think. Just had a private early scan yesterday and all is well with heartbeat spotted!

YahBasic · 15/05/2020 20:04

I’m 10 weeks tomorrow and had no symptoms whatsoever until nearly 7 weeks.

Northernsoul90 · 15/05/2020 20:05

Thank you for your reply it’s a very anxious time being newly pregnant I didn’t expect to worry so much so it’s nice to know someone else hasn’t started with sickness. It’s the fact that I had symptoms yesterday but nothing today that has made me nervous. I need to try and relax!

My symptoms disappeared at 5 weeks, to the point where I went for a scan at EPU as I was convinced if miscarried again! Everything was fine, pregnancy symptoms returned with a vengeance at 12.5 weeks! I'm now almost 16 weeks! I have felt every anxiety under the sun through this pregnancy, made worse by a bad bleed between 9-12 weeks so I really feel your worries!
My advice would be not to judge your pregnancy by the strength or lack of symptoms as you'll drive yourself crazy 😊 if you have any concerns at all, call your midwife or the EPU! They've always been super helpful and reassuring for me xxx

Northernsoul90 · 15/05/2020 20:11

Thank you for replying that’s reassuring to hear Smile glad to hear everything was okay for you!! Smile I need to try and relax and enjoy but as I’m sure you know it’s easier said than done! xxxxx

Same! I'm about 5 weeks, my first time. My boobs aren't sore, no morning sickness. I have a few other symptoms but pretty minor - fast heart rate, greasy skin, sometimes a little lower backache or the odd twinge. I'd love to have morning sickness! I just tell myself that everyone is different and experiences different symptoms at different times. 🤞

Katbaby · 15/05/2020 21:17

Hi Im approx 8 weeks pregnant and just to reassure you I had no nausea or sickness until around middle of week 6, and same with nipple soreness. I found myself wishing I had sickness to reassure myself and now kicking myself as I'm sick every morning as a minimum and often multiple times in the day or dry retching whenever my stomach becomes empty!

My only symptom at 5 weeks were Tiredness and lower backache

Xx

Northernsoul90 · 15/05/2020 21:45

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m sorry that you are so sick my sister has had hyperemesis in both her pregnancies and it is horrendous. I feel a lot better after hearing other women have experienced the same thing xxxx

my symptoms didnt kick in at all until 6 weeks. i was cycling, walking 8+ miles at 4/5 weeks, then suddenly at 6 wks i was SO sick. couldnt get out of bed for dizziness. ended up losing 7kg and becoming dangerously dehydrated within that next month. if u do suffer from sickness make sure u seek help if its effecting how u function. i didnt seek help until dealing with it for 4 weeks by which time i was very ill just from dehydration. look after urself and rest up, the symptoms will be here soon enough. xx

ablisha · 15/05/2020 22:30

@northernsoul90 I'm 16+4 and the only symptoms I've ever had were sore boobs for about 2 weeks at 6 weeks and tiredness at week 13. I did also have bad skin from week 7 but other than that, no nausea or sickness etc. Everyone is different! It really panicked me early on but everything has come back fine so far!

Northernsoul90 · 15/05/2020 23:00

Thank you for your reply! I’m quite an anxious person anyway so it’s hard to try and not to over think things! Reading others experiences helps Smile

Hello ladies, I have a BFP yesterday and this is my first pregnancy. I have had tummy aches and an upset tummy - has anyone else had this? I also have a lower back ache.

BabyDancer · 16/05/2020 15:19

I was the same - I was running 10ks and felt great until around 7 weeks. That's when the nausea and tiredness kicked in and it stayed that way until around 14 weeks. I'm feeling a lot better now at 16 weeks. Don't worry OP - it's perfectly normal xx

bluebell94 · 16/05/2020 15:21

I'm also quite an anxious person and pregnancy has massively exaggerated that - I had no symptoms whatsoever except occasionally tiredness and dizziness. I booked a private scan at 6+6 because I was absolutely convinced something was wrong but it was all fine! I'm 14 weeks now and have had very minimal symptoms and no nausea at all. I'm finding it easier to relax as time goes on but your worries are completely normal! Try and relax and enjoy it as much as you can, my midwife said to me some people are just lucky and never get nasty symptoms. Best of luck xx

Northernsoul90 · 16/05/2020 15:22

Hi! Congratulations! I haven’t had an upset stomach as such but did have some lower back pain and definitely cramping over the past week (I’m currently 5weeks +2 according to an app I have) so far I haven’t had any nausea, some days I have felt exhausted and others I haven’t, peeing a lot and boobs are slightly sore. Also had cramping as mentioned but that’s seems to have eased xxxxxx

Thank you @BabyDancer and @bluebell94! bluebell94 would you recommend the private early scans? I definitely feel better knowing I’m not alone in my experiences... I think it makes it worse when people are constantly asking if I feel sick so it makes you feel as though something is wrong because you don’t yet! Feeling a lot more relaxed today and less anxious xxxx

MayBug2020 · 16/05/2020 16:08

@northensoul90
Thank you for your reply. My app says I am 6+5 but I am not sure as I only had one period before coming off my pill so don’t know my cycle length - thinking I could be more like 5 weeks.

I too am wondering if I should have an early rating scan and also to reassure me as I am quite a worrier. Trying to tel myself just relax and let your body do it’s thing but it’s hard when it’s all so knew. Xxx

BabyDancer · 16/05/2020 16:23

I'm glad you're feeling less anxious today OP! Personally, I wouldn't get an early scan unless you absolutely needed the reassurance. If it's got to the point where you can't concentrate on work or family life etc then it may help. I had to have an early NHS scan at 7 weeks but realistically, I was still worried about miscarriage afterwards. You can't see much at those early scans either so it's nowhere near as nice as seeing the baby at 12 weeks. I think it's natural to worry. The problem is that you may leave your reassurance scan and all is well but still miscarry the next day. If I were you I would probably hold off and if you've got the budget for a private scan then get one at 15/16 weeks so that your partner can actually see your little one as a more fully formed baby xx

bluebell94 · 16/05/2020 16:50

Private scans aren't the cheapest so it depends - I think mine was £79 from window to the womb and they have clinics all over. For me it definitely was as I was so convinced something must be wrong as I felt absolutely fine and scared myself with reading about missed miscarriages etc (which are a lot rarer than I was convincing myself thankfully) so seeing a heartbeat was so reassuring and it did help me to relax and start believing it a bit more xx

MayBug2020 · 16/05/2020 16:54

@bluebell94 that is the company that came up for me. I am in two minds about having one. Will try and leave it a few weeks and see how I go but I am the same as you. It’s hard with your first as you don’t know what is normal and not x

Northernsoul90 · 16/05/2020 17:16

Yes I feel the same @MayBug2020 I have a company called Precious Glimpse near me and their early scans are £50 so might be worth seeing if they have a place near you. I will probably wait until at least 8 weeks though if I do decide to have one xx

sarahc336 · 16/05/2020 17:18

Sickness doesn't often kick in until after week 6 anyway Smile your still very early on for symptoms, plenty of time for them to start yet xx

Scubalubs87 · 16/05/2020 17:23

Hi Op, I’m currently 23 weeks with my second. I have never been sick in either pregnancy. I had a bit of nausea this time round but that didn’t kick in until 6-7 weeks. During early pregnancy I really struggle with anxiety and I was especially bad with my first. I too used to be really stressed over a lack of symptoms but everyone’s body reacts differently - I’ve just been lucky!
I find this part of pregnancy much easier. I look and feel pregnant and I can feel baby moving. I feel my anxiety becomes less all consuming once these things kick in.

MayBug2020 · 16/05/2020 17:30

@Northernsoul90 yes I agree - it seems we could be very close on where we are in this journey :) is this your first? Xx
