I’m so surprised people aren’t seeing their midwifes?! In my area I’ve seen mine twice in person, my consultant appointment was over the phone but I’ve been told my 16 week appointment will be in person. So strange how each trust is so different.

Crispaddict99 · 14/05/2020 21:07

@SMcG1 @HarrietM87 Thanks for replying about the 16 week appointment. I was really hoping to hear the baby's heartbeat for a wee bit extra reassurance. But never mind!

All my appointments are in person. It is strange how differently the trusts are operating. I also find it odd that my partner was allowed to attend my booking appointment and can attend the 16 week appointment but he wasn't allowed at the scan 🤷‍♀️

I'll be taking pregnacare with omega throughout my pregnancy x

Fouryearslater · 14/05/2020 21:09

My booking in was over the phone and 16 week will be too. Not sure about my consultant appointment (not heard about that). I’ll see someone at 20 weeks for the scan and then I don’t think I have anything until 28 weeks onwards which should be in person.

noonaah · 14/05/2020 22:07

I’m the same as you @fouryearslater, my consultant appointment is also over the phone.

Jay0512 · 14/05/2020 22:54

Whoops I just realised I do actually have a 16 week apt, it will be a telephone call too x

LozEliza · 15/05/2020 04:32

My 16 week (although it's actually 15 weeks) appt is in person and I'm not really sure why 🤷🏻‍♀️ it was just booked that way when I saw the mw for my bloods. Seems a bit risky going in person if it's just a chat.

BabyKnighty1 · 15/05/2020 05:50

Has anyone got really bad thirst and dry mouth, 14 weeks and it’s been really bad the past couple of days

overandoverafail · 15/05/2020 07:08

Finally have the NHS 12 week scan today!! Been awake since 5am can't sleep due to nerves! Not sure why as we had a private scan last Friday so DH could be there but the worry doesn't seem to go away when the scan date actually arrives! Hoping all is still well and the screening goes ok!

FireflyGirl · 15/05/2020 07:18

Good luck for today, @overandoverafail. Another chance to see your wiggly bean.

NatalieH2220 · 15/05/2020 07:38

Good luck for your scan today @overandoverafail

It is odd how different areas are doing it differently. I had my booking in over the phone at 9 weeks and now won't have another appointment until 28 weeks. Seems a long time to me for bloods but they've cancelled the 16 week due to COVID.

Pink15 · 15/05/2020 07:54

Bit delayed but my 13 week scan all went well 🥳🥳

I was also told my 16 week will be on the phone as sounds like it's just blood results. Then they also have me my 20 week scan date.

@overandoverafail good luck!!

@BabyKnighty1 yes I've been super thirsty apparently it's normal as blood volume increases!

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/05/2020 08:27

@Pink15 woop! Great news!

My midwife booking in was also on the phone and I think 16 weeks will be too. So I’ve had no blood pressure checks, no urine tests. They did take my blood at the scan for booking bloods as well as screening. I’d rather be seeing someone in person, I don’t think it’s a huge risk and I think a bigger risk that problems potentially won’t be picked up because I’m not seeing someone - I’m really foreseeing a spike in obstetric emergencies/issues this year as women aren’t getting normal adequate care. It was mentioned on my booking in call that I should probably have aspirin throughout for pre-eclampsia risk, she said someone will give you something to read /prescription? when you come in for scan but they didn’t. I’ve text and had no reply (though she’s been otherwise responsive) I might just do it anyway

@BuffaloCauliflower It's strange that our appointment set ups are so different if we're presumably in the same trust since we're both at St Peter's. My booking in appointment was in person and so will my 16 week one. I was also told to take aspirin so picked some up earlier this week.

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/05/2020 08:40

@Addler interesting. I’m seeing midwives via Topaz at Ashford but you’d think the same trust would be doing things the same. They haven’t directly said my 16 weeks will be on the phone I think I am just guessing, maybe it won’t be? Can you buy enough aspirin to take 150mg a day without having to buy more every 3 days without a prescription? Seems a lot but I’d never usually buy it

Addler · 15/05/2020 08:43

@BuffaloCauliflower The box I got will last 3 weeks, not sure how much it was as DP picked it up for me. I have to call my GP for another prescription anyway so will ask for some more

overandoverafail · 15/05/2020 09:01

Scan done! All looks as it should! So exciting

MillieY · 15/05/2020 09:06

Congratulations to all having positive scans recently! 🎉
Anyone got any tips for hip pain when sleeping? Tried various combinations of pillows to keep me on my side but by about 4am I'm in agony and can't sleep. Haven't tried the u shaped pregnancy pillow as it seems a bit OTT but getting desperate!

jeleigh · 15/05/2020 09:17

Hi ladies, so lovely to see all the scan news! Had a few days away and just catching up on them all 😊

Is anyone else not really showing yet? I’m 15+2 and when I wake up you can’t tell at all I’m pregnant, and later in the day I just look bloated. There’s no real “bump” there. I know everyone shows differently but I’m still not eating a great deal as I’m still off a lot of food, so I’m hoping that this won’t be affecting baby’s growth.
Just desperate to have that little bump already!

HarrietM87 · 15/05/2020 09:26

@BuffaloCauliflower that’s not great! I had my blood pressure and urine done at my 12 week scan - there was a little room in the scanning dept. Won’t see a midwife in person until I’m 26 weeks but I guess they might do it at my 20 week scan as my 16 week appt is over the phone again.

I think the main things they’re looking for with those are signs of pre-eclampsia, which becomes an issue later on anyway.

HarrietM87 · 15/05/2020 09:28

@jeleigh is it your first pregnancy? I didn’t have a bump in mine until I was over 20 weeks and I could disguise it with baggy tops until about 30 weeks.

Now with baby 2 I’ve got a the beginnings of a bump but I reckon most people would just think I was fat!

BuffaloCauliflower · 15/05/2020 09:43

@HarrietM87 yeh it’s not ideal. My mum had pre-eclampsia with me and is on BP medication now. I also on the chubbier side (BMI about 28) although I’ve not had high BP in the past- except for anxiety! I will take the aspirin anyway, luckily I’m the sort to take things into my own hands and cause a fuss if worried! I’ve text the midwife again.

@jeleigh I’ve got a slight bit of rounding/gardening low down just above my pubic line, but that’s sort of it for bump (14 weeks) my belly is on the slightly more rounded/squishy end so hard to tell what isn’t my usual belly! But it’s my first too, I’m not anticipating showing properly for a while yet. Tbh that’s fine, the longer I can sleep on my tummy the better!

  • hardening! Not gardening!

jeleigh · 15/05/2020 10:00

@HarrietM87 @BuffaloCauliflower yeah this is my first. I’m just not really showing a lot up top, everything is still pretty just happening down the bottom. So it’s more pouch than anything else. I should probably take it as a blessing too as sleeping on my front is the only thing which has helped me with sickness and heartburn, and I find sleeping on my side so uncomfortable. I should appreciate just the pouch for as long as I can 😂

Hancock2020 · 15/05/2020 10:04

Appointment wise all I have is my 20 week scan booked in. Still waiting to hear from the consultant but I should imagine that will be more towards the end because it was birth difficulty I had before.

My little bump is coming along nicely 🥰 but this is number 3 for me so was expecting to show earlier. The best thing this week is that I cant feel movement yet which is fine it's too early, but what I can feel sometimes is exactly where the baby is lying, this morning it was pushing my tummy forward so hard. Must have been stretching or something. Was a little painful so tried the old tummy tickle and it disappeared again lol
