@Needallthesleep @DPSawMyUsername I have to take half my leave by mid-year so also am going to have some time kicking around doing nothing next month!

DH and I have a list of names but I'm so nervous about deciding on anything or buying anything too early! I still don't totally believe I'm having a baby tbh.

professorastrocat · 14/05/2020 16:22

Hi everyone. That's so annoying about your appointment @DPSawMyUsername !

I'm very glamorous with my old glasses on again as my eyes are being weird with my contacts - I think it's a dry eye pregnancy thing.

Names are so hard! I think we're having another boy as does DP but we find boys names hard! Have you got a shortlist @Needallthesleep ?

Hi everyone! I've just had some maternity leggings arrive from love leggings and they're so nice. Really good quality, true to size (I'm 5"2, ordered petite and I have my first ever pair of properly fitting leggings!! Feeling fancy...) and aren't see through at all. Very reasonable too.

We've always been pretty good with girls names but don't have a single boy one we agree on. Which is unfortunate as I think this might just be one! We're looking at a mountain buggy or a city jogger as we're fairly outdoorsy and want to be able to handle off road and running.

Having said that, all my apps are telling me how much energy I should have no and how important it is to eat healthily. Which is a little galling as I'm shattered after 4 long shifts in a row and sat chain eating wotsits, haribo and toast. Screw em.

Really hoping tonight that I can persuade DH to tell our friends and family. We've been waiting to see them and frankly it just isn't going to happen any time soon. They'd be so excited and I'm desperate to tell them. Cross your fingers for me. I think I basically just want to be able to moan about the nausea to a wider audience too... Grin

BooMamaBear · 14/05/2020 18:03

We're making a shortlist but as usual my DH won't talk seriously about middle names - with DD I just decided what it was going to be when she was handed to me he was a bit pissed coz said we hadn't agreed one I was like OMG I tried to talk to you about it so much Jeff and Bob for a girl weren't sensible suggestions which is what he kept saying when I tried to talk to him about it!! So I gave him plenty of chances to suggest one anyway he likes it now! My DD's middle name is Spanish so I'd like a Spanish middle name for this one but coz of our surname it could do with not having an L in it! Xx

DPSawMyUsername · 14/05/2020 18:10

DP isn't Irish but has heavy roots down the line (and then it's his favourite place ever!) so he's been looking at Irish names. My only stomp is that it's got to be decent to spell, it can't be one of them that has the full alphabet in just to pronounce Gary 😂 But he mention Cian on his list and that sits very nice with me as I have a Cleo and when married our surname will (be double barrelled) begin with a C too. Girls names - not a clue and we both think it'll be a girl too 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hatepickinganame · 14/05/2020 18:56

Ooh weve been talking about names for weeks! Mostly girls names, although i have no clue whats growing in there 😂 nowhere near an actual list though. I cant wait for my mat trousers to arrive now, its hard to even do mine up anymore. As for my hair, i bought box dye last weekend, (im a redhead so easy to do at home) i have inch long roots with plenty of grey... i cant summon the energy to actually do it though 😫

professorastrocat · 14/05/2020 19:30

How funny we all have these instincts of what the sex will be (apart from those of you that know!) is anyone funding out at 20 week scan?

@Bumblebee413 no wonder you are tired after 4 long shifts I don't think the app will have factored that in! 😂 I don't have lots of energy either but I think lockdown is zapping our energy (in a different way to actually rushing around).
I also don't know how you've not told people yet - get your DH persuaded!!

OP posts:
Wise0wl · 14/05/2020 19:44

Yes to finding out at the 20 week scan @professorastrocat (and I've also been scrutinising my scan to try and work it out, but I can't!) I reckon I'm having a boy though, based on no science at all.

How have you all told people in lockdown?

BooMamaBear · 15/05/2020 01:00

All the people I know in RL including me are having girls and one of the October babies threads I'm on has 7 girls and 3 boys so far!
I'm kinda glad I was at a complete loss fir boys names -the only one we both liked was part of our surname too so it would sound pretty silly!
@Hatepickinganame - I wore jeans but looped an elastic band through the hole then fastened this over the button to make them more accommodating before my maternity leggings arrived - it doesn't fit any more but worked as a temporary measure!

professorastrocat · 15/05/2020 08:10

If anyone wants to share a scan pic I like having a fun guess 😊 who was it on here who said they're never wrong at a guess ? 😉

I think my family think a girl would be nice. I don't know this explicitly but they've mentioned a few times and we only have boys across whole family child-wise, no girls so would make sense. Me and DP really don't mind but I don't want any disappointment from anyone else...does that make sense? Perhaps I'm just being hormonal!
Of course really everyone wants a healthy baby and is very happy whatever.

@Wise0wl re telling people, it's been pretty underwhelming texts and FaceTime I'm afraid!

OP posts:
DPSawMyUsername · 15/05/2020 09:11

Telling people - My sister knew from the first positive test. I told people in work really early on so I wasn't asked to do something silly (jobs wise). DP's mum got a scratch off card a week before lockdown (they had already self isolated). His sister got a phone call. My teen, I told her while DP was out shopping - she hadn't got her head round lockdown and wanted to go out with friends. Explained shielding which took the fun out of it all.

We did do the social media announcement at 13 weeks. I let DP post to break up his political rants that cover his FB 😆

I don't speak to my mum so I told her nothing. I am told that she switched her phone off for 2 days after the public announcement though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

professorastrocat · 15/05/2020 11:03

Sorry about your mum @DPSawMyUsername 🙁

OP posts:
BooMamaBear · 15/05/2020 12:11

Sorry about your mum @DPSawMyUsername
My family and close friends know -very close family knew before lockdown so we told them in person couldn't hide it coz I didn't have wine with Sunday lunch and I was struggling with nausea!
I'll announce to other people on social media all being well at 24 weeks!! Xxx

Lola871 · 15/05/2020 12:16

We aren't going to find out and have no inkling either re boy or girl.
We've told most of our family now, and close friends, but aren't really planning on an announcement as such, will just let people find out as they find out!

DPSawMyUsername · 15/05/2020 12:21

@ProfessorAstrocat @BooMamaBear Thank you but it's not a sad thing. You can't hang onto toxic, it's not me or mine that's missing out.

Is anyone doing a gender reveal someway somehow?

Hatepickinganame · 15/05/2020 12:34

So ive left work today with the worst stomach ache. Currently waiting on gp to let me know if its a water infection. No idea what the plan is past that, will anyone see me at nearly 10 weeks for stomach pain?!

Bumblebee413 · 15/05/2020 13:11

An early pregnancy unit should see you @Hatepickinganame I'm so sorry that you're in pain. Fingers crossed it's a UTI and gets sorted out quickly xxx

Hatepickinganame · 15/05/2020 13:59

Gp just called back and i have antibiotics to get so i assume its a uti. Off to pick them up then nap time i think, stressful day! Thanks @bumblebee413 xx

professorastrocat · 15/05/2020 15:37
