@Happythecrocodile we told everyone bar parents and siblings after the scan. We just told them over the phone or over video call. We did get our daughter a little 'I am going to be a big sister' t shirt for the video chats which was cute. Nobody seemed annoyed that we didnt tell them before then. It's very normal for people to wait til the scan. My cousin yesterday announced she is 13 weeks pregnant with twins. They only told their parents 4 days ago. To me, and most people it seems, it's very normal and sensible to wait til the scan to tell people.

Happythecrocodile · 03/05/2020 08:48

@sqidgebum that’s reassuring, although we haven’t even told parents & siblings yet- literally no one knows. With my little boy we told them at around 7 weeks as we had a family holiday. I got pregnant late last year and was planning to tell them at 6.5 weeks but I had a mc before that, so this time we wanted to wait. I’m a bit worried they might ask why we waited so long to tell them in which case I’ll tell them about the mc but I don’t really want to tell them at the same time as it’s meant to be happy news!
I got my son a ‘big bro’ t shirt too Grin

SqidgeBum · 03/05/2020 09:33

If they ask why you waited, all you have to say is 'we wanted to make sure everything was ok' . That's it. Its up to you when you share the news and I dont think people should really have an issue with waiting til 12 weeks ish. Everyone knows up to 12 weeks many things can happen. I imagine your family will just be so happy they wont think of being annoyed because you didnt tell them earlier.

I'm 13 and 3.... This is my first pregnancy to God knows what size I'm going to be in subsequent pregnancies 😂 I feel like I'm getting bigger and bigger everyday!

@Charlottethevet I’m 13+3 today and have the tiniest hint of a pouch lol can’t wait to get a nice little bump showing!!Grin has anyone else been struggling with sore hips when trying to sleep on their sides? I find I am tossing and turning all night to trying to get comfortable.

SqidgeBum · 03/05/2020 10:31

@CoBell I would recommend sleeping with a plump pillow between your legs. I am nearly at that point too. In a few weeks investing in a pregnancy pillow might be a good call. Mine was amazing on my last pregnancy, although by 35 weeks my husband had been thrown out of the bed as it and I were so big lol

novicettc · 03/05/2020 10:39

@Happythecrocodile we waited till after our scan to tell parents and pretty much everyone else!! Its my first pregnancy and wanted as much reassurance as possible, plus lockdown made it v easy to hide!! Was amazing telling them without it still being in the 'early days' phase, but that's a personal decision and I totally understand why people tell earlier too. They were delighted to be able to share the news with their siblings and friends too. Given what's going on it has been a boost for them all to get such good news, they didnt question the timing of us telling them at all!

Can anyone who has been pregnant before recommend a good pregnancy pillow? So many on the market I'm confused!

CoBell · 03/05/2020 10:40

@SqidgeBum ah good idea. I will try that tonight, thank you :) I had looked online at the pregnancy pillows and they are huge aren’t they! Lol could be a good investment though so I will bear that in mind! Thank you Smile

MrsR87 · 03/05/2020 10:53

I’ve just Bly told two close friends over the phone. I really want to tell our family face to face as I always had a plan in my head as to how I was going to do it. Going to give it a few more weeks and then I’ll have to admit defeat and do a video call! That’s if I can persuade my mum to get video calling back her phone, which is what I’ve been trying to do since the start on lockdown 😟

Hancock2020 · 03/05/2020 11:11

The only person in my family that doesnt know in my family is my dad, I'm dreading telling him so am waiting until the scan, (which I STILL have no idea when that is!)
I also need to tell my kids, I dont know how they will react, they live with my ex so I've given him a heads up that I will be telling them In a couple of weeks.
My family situation is quite awkward tbh

ACatCalledLola · 03/05/2020 11:32

@Charlottethevet great bump. Mine is a similar size at 13+4. I’m on no.3 but I’ve been big with each pregnancy!

Becca65 · 03/05/2020 11:43

I've had really bad insomnia too. Probably a good job I'm not at work - i'd be a liability! Just been coming downstairs and having a snack for a break from getting stressed about not sleeping, it sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't X

Hancock2020 · 03/05/2020 12:43

Just changed the bed, now I'm out of breath lol 😥

HarrietM87 · 03/05/2020 13:36

Wow @Charlottethevet that is impressive! You look great! I’m 13 weeks today, second baby and there’s no bump, just a podgy tummy! Still in my jeans but they are high waisted ones so I suspect are holding me in a bit. When I wake up in the mornings I can feel the solid lump of baby on my left side (because I sleep on my left) so I know it’s in there 🤣

LozEliza · 03/05/2020 13:56

Jealous that some people are getting bumps already! I'm 13 weeks today and it's definitely all sticking out a bit more but nothing noticeable especially because I'm wearing lounge wear or pyjamas 100% of the time! I've been feeling extra tired and getting back ache so I think the baby is growing again.

We didn't tell family this time until 12 weeks as we had a mc before. They weren't annoyed at all just super happy and I think relieved we'd passed the most risky stage. I'm not announcing to the world or anything like that though until further down the line. I don't feel the need to tell work either as they can't see me at the moment except from the neck up on Zoom!

I did have insomnia but I've noticed the past week I've been more tired so I have been sleeping through except getting up once for a wee.

Happythecrocodile · 03/05/2020 14:09

Thanks everyone, you’re right I think they’ll just be happy and excited rather than bothered about why I didn’t tell them before, I don’t know why I’m letting their reaction worry me. And it has been super easy to keep it a secret in lockdown which has helped! I wanted to tell them face to face but I think after my scan we’ll just FaceTime them with my son in his ‘big bro’ top and take it from there. Just got to wait 1 more week for my scan now 🤞

@Charlottethevet what a beautiful bump!

Addler · 03/05/2020 15:45

It's DP's birthday in a couple of days and I found a place near us that's still allowing partners in to scans so I booked one for today as a surprise. Sappy old thing cried when he saw the building Grin

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/05/2020 16:41

Aww that’s lovely @Addler Smile

Pink15 · 03/05/2020 16:57

@Addler aww so cute 🥰

@Charlottethevet wow I'm jealous of your bump haha! I want one! My stomach in the mornings looks the same but by the evening just looks very bloated so hard to tell what is what

FlashesOfRage · 03/05/2020 17:50

@LozEliza

Bit late to the party! But I just wanted to say about the fetal heart rate; my clinic specifically don’t measure it (the consultant said he doesn’t need to measure to confidently judge it as healthy) and said they avoid it because women can get themselves in such a pickle over whether it’s too low, too high etc and what that might indicate based on googling once they get home.

I was actually glad about that because I know 100% I’d have been checking the values against scientific papers and assessing my miscarriage risk myself like an idiot 🙈🤣

Hancock2020 · 03/05/2020 18:06

I cant cope with this ms any more! It's all day! I cant eat anything without feeling sick, I cant smell anything without feeling sick! Its driving me nuts!!

futuredreams · 03/05/2020 18:07

@flashesOfRage I'm glad you said actually because any scans I've had I've never been offered a heart rate. But I would have loved to hear it just but I've never been offered that either. If things go to plan I'm going to maybe ask at my 16 week private scan just to hear it. ☺️

FlashesOfRage · 03/05/2020 18:12

@Charlottethevet

Eek! You look so cute!!! 😍 What a lovely bump you’ve got x

FlashesOfRage · 03/05/2020 18:14

@CoBell

Yes yes to sore hips side sleeping already! I bought a giant pregnancy pillow off Amazon by a UK brand called Byre 👍 it’s great but I’m a fidget so it will take some getting used to

FlashesOfRage · 03/05/2020 18:19

@Hancock2020

I’m so sorry things are so tough for you right now 💐 I’ve only started to be much better this week so I am sorry you are still suffering, it’s ok to throw a tantrum or two and have a big cry!!! I did quite a few times recently lol 😂

I’m also really sorry to hear that your family situation is not ideal and you’re worried about announcing to some 💐 xxx
