I've been looking at maternity clothes today - I got out my old stuff and most of it (mainly trousers) is dire. I have a nice black dress and a few jumpers/tee shirts - but at the moment I can manage in my normal clothes but really need some bottoms.

But some of the stuff (!) even the models look awful in it!

Learned from previous experiences that it's best to invest early (well - if you're like me and get a large bump meaning I'm in mat stuff for ages).

SqidgeBum · 02/05/2020 14:03

@Fredthespider the bleeding hasn't happened again. I rang 111 this morning and spoke to an on call doc who told me to ring again if anything got worse or ring the GP on Monday if the bleeding continued. I think it's my cervical polyps that are causing the bleeding as I have no other concerning symptoms. I am just taking it easy today.

Fredthespider · 02/05/2020 14:06

@SqidgeBum That's reassuring! Hope it doesn't come back :)

HarrietM87 · 02/05/2020 14:07

@Tonicandgin I had a look at mine too. My problem is that the season is totally wrong as my son was due early April, and I didn’t need mat clothes til the January, so it’s all really wintery! When I was looking on H&M for the bras they seemed to have loads of nice clothes and a bigger range than when I was last pregnant.

I still fit in my normal clothes atm but I look fat! I’ve put on half a stone and my skin is awful so the self esteem is not high at the moment! Quite relieved it’s only my poor DH who has to see me!

Tonicandgin · 02/05/2020 14:13

Snap @HarrietM87 I look like I've spent lockdown eating! Which I think is accentuated by my oversized clothes.

I'm so glad I don't have to hide it that well, although my 6 yr old keeps peering at me and kissing my tummy - but knows nothing! (Yet).

I'll be glad when I can make the bump look a bit more obvious, because I can do that pretty easily.

Pink15 · 02/05/2020 14:30

@futuredreams if you're on 5mg folic acid I think that's the high dose and only advised if you have other medical conditions so I'd definitely discuss with your doctor before stopping it. If you don't have other medical conditions it's just 400mcg folic acid and can stop at 12 weeks - but people were debating on here last week whether to just continue it or not!

MrsR87 · 02/05/2020 15:12

@HarrietM87
I’m the same. I just look bigger! I’m in work once a week and obviously FaceTiming friends and family who don’t know yet so I’m paranoid about my ‘bump’. I think my husband thinks he’s being reassuring when he says ‘it’s okay, you can just pass it off as too many lockdown burgers’ lol. Now this is probably true but adding to how massive I already feel lol. I read on some maternity website though that it’s normal for you to look bigger but not have the ‘traditional bump’ until around 16 weeks. That’s what I’m hoping anyway 😂😂😂

HarrietM87 · 02/05/2020 15:46

@MrsR87 yes that’s definitely right with your first. I just looked fat until I got a bump but I was well over 20 weeks. Feel like I will show sooner this time - would rather have a bump than just look podgy 🤣

Jen1311 · 02/05/2020 16:06

Re. Bumps, I’m coming up to 12 weeks now and have a proper Little bump already! This is my third baby (although with an 11 year gap between my youngest to this one) and turns out your body really doesn’t forget! I’ve spent years working on my core muscle strength and it would seem it was all for nothing! Lol Grin I do think it’s mainly my stomach that has been pushed up because of growing uterus but I’m glad I’m working from home because I would struggle to disguise it at work (as well as feeling rough everyday!)

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/05/2020 16:56

@wannabebump I told my mum the minute I saw a line!

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/05/2020 16:59

I definitely have no bump yet. 11 weeks, first baby. I keep feeling like my very lower abdomen is harder but then it changes again. I’ve got a bit of a squishy belly anyway so think I may not show for a while yet. My friend is having her 4th and had a proper bump by 12 weeks so definitely seems to show more with additional pregnancies

SqidgeBum · 02/05/2020 17:20

I am 13+5 on DC2. I am starting to show through a hoodie! I definitely have a bump

SMcG1 · 02/05/2020 17:45

I’m 14+3 and all I have some hardness at the very bottom of my stomach. It is my first though so I think it’s quite common. Today has been a pretty good day for me. I haven’t felt nauseous at all so I’m hoping that’s me over it now. I was speaking to my mum and she said she was sick with my sister up until 6 months so I was worried I would be like that too!

wannabebump · 02/05/2020 17:58

@BuffaloCauliflower my mum would have been far too excited to keep it to herself so I've had to keep it a secret 😂

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/05/2020 18:04

@SMcG1 interesting cause there does seem to be a genetic element. I’ve had a reasonably easy pregnancy as they go, so far anyway 🤞🏻 And my DM did too.

@wannabebump fair, I told a few people early for various reasons and a few more after we had a 10 week early scan. It’s me that’s not great at keeping quiet

Becca65 · 02/05/2020 18:34

I had to tell work really early because I work in radiology, and virus patients were coming thick and fast, a lot of the time without any warning or dr's telling us that was what they were looking for, so we told our parents the day before I went to see my manager. It was only just under 6 weeks, so was feeling a lot of pressure to not have got it wrong! Became obsessed with buying and doing tests, and in the end booked in for a private viability scan.

wannabebump · 02/05/2020 18:49

@BuffaloCauliflower I'm struggling though, really struggling 😂 I think if I was at work it would be different because of the tiredness/sickness but I'm furloughed so haven't had to tell them yet. Next week hopefully! X

HarrietM87 · 02/05/2020 18:56

I haven’t told work yet...will not be welcome news. I think I won’t bother until we’re physically back in the office (or week 25 if it comes to that as I have to let them know by then!). I’m working from home full time and managed to get through the awful morning sickness weeks with only one day off so I don’t think they suspect.

TangBloodyFastic · 02/05/2020 19:26

I'm 11+3 with my first and haven't got any signs of any bump or hardness in my lower stomach, I'm still extremely squidgy Grin
I haven't even weighed myself to see if I've put on any weight because the battery in the scales has died.
Thighs feel to be getting larger which is no surprise as any weight goes to my upper legs first Sad
Trying really hard not to just eat shit but still not got my appetite back. I feel full very quick and still not particularly enjoying anything I eat.. other than salt and vinegar McCoy's and Pringles, the stronger the flavour the better 🤤 trying to curb how many I eat though!!!!!

EBM20 · 02/05/2020 20:12

I haven't told my work yet, I was due to start a new job then we went into lockdown so I cannot start it until they are allowed to re-open, it's a hotel so I don't have much hope of starting the job untill after the baby is born by the looks of things 😔 I plan on telling them when I start but if not I will have to email them and tell them at 25 weeks!

Pink15 · 02/05/2020 21:41

@BuffaloCauliflower I also told my mum and dad as soon as I had the line on the stick 😂 my dad was in shock as he said he didn't really believe it as I hadn't even missed my period yet haha!

Pcosandpregnant · 02/05/2020 22:07

I have such bad gums at the minute! They are red and swollen and I’m so scared I’m going to lose my teeth 😢 I take such good care of my teeth this is a complete shock to me

SqidgeBum · 03/05/2020 07:38

I told my parents at 5 weeks. I knew they could keep it to themselves. I told work the week before lockdown as I am a teacher and couldn't go to school. Also, recruitment in the teaching sector is so bad they need at least 7 months notice to replace me. If I told them at 20 weeks or so, they would literally be without a teacher for my students. My headteacher asked us in january who was leaving the school the following September Confused

SqidgeBum · 03/05/2020 07:42

Also, anyone else suffering with insomnia? I swear I slept for 30 minutes last night. Not ideal when 13 weeks pregnant and also have a 17 month old Angry

Happythecrocodile · 03/05/2020 07:54

I don’t have much of a hard bump, I just look like I’ve eaten too much over lockdown! This is second baby so I wondered if I’d get a bump early but doesn’t seem it so far (11 weeks). TBH I’d rather have a bump than just looking a bit fat!

Ladies who have had their scans now and had been waiting to tell people- how are you telling family & friends? Do they understand why you waited to tell them?
