@wannabebump

I just found this on the NHS website:

Meat and poultry
What you can eat

meats such as chicken, pork and beef, as long as they're well-cooked with no trace of pink or blood; be especially careful with poultry, pork, sausages and burgers
cold, pre-packed meats such as ham and corned beef

What to be careful with

cold cured meats, such as salami, pepperoni, chorizo and prosciutto (unless cooked thoroughly)

What to avoid

raw or undercooked meat
liver and liver products
all types of pâté, including vegetarian pâté
game meats such as goose, partridge or pheasant

So it seems in terms ok the UK, you should be fine with prepacked ham and beef. I have certainly been eating them in the past few weeks. We are lucky that the food safety standards in this country are very high, so things that you might be advised not to eat in other countries, even like America, may be okay.

MrsR87 · 28/04/2020 15:41

I've just read the whole article and it's actually really informative. It lists what you can and can't eat by category, so quite helpful. Happy to share the link, but not sure if that's allowed ?!?!

Anothercliche · 28/04/2020 15:42

@wannabebump there's really not much you can do now so I would try to put it out of your mind (as hard as that might sound). The chances of you contracting listeriosis are extremely tiny from packaged meat in this country. I have personally never come across anyone who has contracted it, let alone any pregnant women. And there are pregnant women who don't know they are pregnant and continue eating all sorts and baby is fine. In other countries where hygiene and food safety is non-existent they eat all sorts and their babies are fine. Read the book I recommended - it explains it much more eloquently.

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 15:47

Thanks all for the reassurance 😘 I'm such a stress head x

@MrsR87 I read that page too...very reassuring x

Spoons1987 · 28/04/2020 15:48

Just seconding what @Anothercliche has said. You’re probably at greater risk of harm from walking downstairs in the morning, but you wouldn’t think twice about it. In the very very rare case that you did contract listeria, it isn’t even a ‘given’ that baby would contract it too. If in 72 hours you’re feeling fine then I would have thought you’re all clear, but I hope by that point you’ve forgotten about it and are enjoying a full roast beef sandwich!

It’s people who accidentally eat raw chicken or rely on the sniff test who need to worry a bit about listeria. Even then, it’s a very small risk.

Rainbowafterthestorm · 28/04/2020 15:55

@MrsR87, this is bizarre. I’m a secondary school teacher and equally feel as lucky. I’m still working fairly long hours as I’m currently acting head of department (due to illness of the hod) but in fairness, it’s just nice to be in my comfy clothes and eat when I want.
I had a scare bleed at 8 weeks and had to go on my own to A+E then the epau, i left my OH in the car as I was petrified (I had a miscarriage in Jan). In all honestly going to the scan on my own was fine, the midwives/sonographer are going above and beyond. But at the same time I feel for my OH, it’s his first too, and I worry about bonding. I know he’ll be a fab daddy, but he’s just not had the same chances (to meet him or her as me). When is your scan? (Sorry if you’ve already said-this thread is taking me ages to catch up), mines this Monday coming.

Pcosandpregnant · 28/04/2020 15:56

I’ve finally got my booking appointment! Tomorrow at 10+1 weeks. Feels a bit more real now.

MrsR87 · 28/04/2020 16:02

@Rainbowafterthestorm

Even weirder, I am a HoD too! Although a little long in the tooth with it now as I've been HoD since 2013 so I am lucky to have a lot of experience and previous bits and bobs to rely on to keep the work load down where possible :)

Oh wow, that sounds so scary, I'm glad you're okay!

My scan was yesterday, it was so lovely...it was really early so when I got back to set my lessons for the day, I was on cloud nine and couldn't focus lol!

Already got the 20 week scan booked for June, so looking forward to that.

Hancock2020 · 28/04/2020 16:44

@MrsR87 cant believe you've already got a date for your 20 week scan! I'm 10 weeks and still haven't got a date for my 12 week scan

Hancock2020 · 28/04/2020 16:53

Oh for heavens sake mother! No I'm not being lazy! I'm back in Pjs in bed because I dont feel good, including a headache, so you ruffling my head did
NOT help, i'm not just being damn lazy! Argh leave me alone!!!

LozEliza · 28/04/2020 16:58

@SqidgeBum thank you! Everyone in the family has said the same about the Z above baby! I think it's the arm lol

@BuffaloCauliflower @HarrietM87
thank you xxx

HarrietM87 · 28/04/2020 16:58

@Hancock2020 I think you should follow up with them - there’s not much time! (I’m sure you are doing).

At my hospital it’s standard to book in for your 20 week scan at your 12 week scan as it’s all done by the same fetal medicine team so guess I’ll get mine next week. My 16 week midwife appt is over the phone so I won’t even see a midwife until I’m 26 weeks which seems mad.

MrsR87 · 28/04/2020 17:24

@Hancock2020
I know, I was surprised. To be fair, I called about 5 weeks ago to inform my doctor’s I was pregnant and they have me my first midwife appointment at the hospital for last Friday! It seemed ages away but when I was there they gave me my first scan appointment for yesterday (3 days later) and then yesterday they booked me in for the next scan. I think once you’ve had your first point of contact, things get speedier from there. Fingers crossed x

jeleigh · 28/04/2020 17:39

Hi ladies. What a stressful day! Just thought I would update you all, little one is absolutely fine. All those weeks of bloody stressing 😂
However I do have a cyst on my ovaries which has been the cause of my sickness, pains and my brain not realising I’m actually pregnant! And I also got told I have an anterior placenta so I may not feel baby move until a few weeks later than normal?
Anyone had any experience with either? Apparently both are nothing to be worried about but now I need to have a closer eye kept on me.

HarrietM87 · 28/04/2020 17:47

@jeleigh I had a cyst in my last pregnancy and it went away by itself between the 12 and 20 week scan and caused no issues. They said if it didn’t I might have had to have extra scans to check on it - if it gets really big I think can be an issue but that’s rare.

And my best friend had an anterior placenta. She felt movements at 21 weeks so a bit later but it wasn’t extreme. Also her baby was back to back which I think is common with anterior placentas but again she still had a natural birth, the first phase just took a bit longer. Glad that all is ok with the baby - congrats!

jeleigh · 28/04/2020 18:04

@HarrietM87 thank you.
I’m seeing a consultant anyway in a couple of weeks so I think they’re going to do another scan. I was kinda hoping there was a reason I was still feeling so sick when I’m 13 weeks and now I know but I’m just hoping it goes away as i’ll just be worrying about it.

futuredreams · 28/04/2020 18:16

Just out of interest. Someone mentioned about when they saw their GP to tell them they were pregnant to get referral for hospital. How many weeks were you when you went and said to your GP? I only ask because my GP was shocked to see me so soon at 5/6 weeks. Said most women wait until they are 9 weeks before going in. I just found that very odd.

Fouryearslater · 28/04/2020 18:23

I had an anterior placenta with my first. No complications but it was possibly a little longer before I felt a definite movement. He was also back to back (and star gazing - basically awkward before he was even born!).

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/04/2020 18:30

Glad to hear everything’s ok @jeleigh Smile

MrsR87 · 28/04/2020 18:32

@futuredreams

I think that’s my post! I didn’t see a GP, just called and they referred me straight to the maternity unit. I guess it depends on which date you go from. When I called, I said was was about 4-5 weeks pregnant as I worked out from my ovulation and when we’d actually tried that that was when we’d conceived. But if you go by the official dates that they use of using your period I would have been just over 6 weeks pregnant.

futuredreams · 28/04/2020 18:38

@mrsr87. Thanks! Sorry I read the posts then I go back to reply and loose where I was Confused yeh I just felt a bit silly going at 6ish weeks because of what she said about some women waiting to 9 weeks. I guess it's to see if pregnancy sticks around but after doing this three times in two years I know when it's staying. That's why I went. Plus I knew GP wouldn't refer me to hospital until I'd had an early scan. And EPU wouldn't have seen me without having spoken to GP lol it's a vicious cycle. Self referring sounds much better. I don't think we can do that in NI. I'd love to be wrong tho if anyone knows otherwise.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/04/2020 18:48

@futuredreams in my first pregnancy I went to the GP at 5 weeks and they said to self refer to midwife unit after 6 weeks pregnant - though I didn’t make it that far. This time I just self referred as I now know that’s the process and didn’t bother with the GP at all. I think the process varies hugely between areas.

TangBloodyFastic · 28/04/2020 19:04

Lovely scan pic @jeleigh
I've been told I've got anterior placenta too. I wasn't sure what that meant so asked and she just said that it meant I wouldn't movements until later. She said usually after 20weeks
She didn't mention more likely to be back to back so unsure about that. I hope not!

I did read it can move though throughout the pregnancy and it was nothing to be concerned about Smile

MrsR87 · 28/04/2020 19:04

@futuredreams I wasn’t made to feel silly or anything, in fact the receptionist was lovely saying how nice it must be to have a nice bit of news in the current climate. (It was the first week of lockdown). The reason I called the doctors was I literally had no clue what to do! Ha ha

TangBloodyFastic · 28/04/2020 19:04

Wouldn't feel*
