Thanks for confirming what I already knew re last date of period. Just getting myself worked up over nothing! 😊

Natopp · 28/04/2020 13:27

@Addler that's just really nasty. She's probably not saying anything as she is worried she'll have to look after the kids!! Awful management. I feel for you. I've been really sicky today and have done my best but just want to head home and call it a day.

Fredthespider · 28/04/2020 13:28

@Natopp my NHS trust have a pregnancy app and on there it says that the screenings need to be done between 11+2 and 14+1 so you have some scope. What makes you think you're a week earlier compared to the date of your last period?

Fredthespider · 28/04/2020 13:30

@Natopp - sorry, I need to refresh before posting!

Pink15 · 28/04/2020 13:52

@BuffaloCauliflower we've been watching that babies documentary on Netflix too! It's quite good definitely a lot to learn 🙈

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 14:40

Anyone else becoming paranoid about eating and what they should and shouldn't? Had a roast beef sandwich (makes a change from ham as I'm getting bored of it) (not off the deli - pre packed like ham would be) then googled it 😭 don't know if I should try and make myself sick or not.

SqidgeBum · 28/04/2020 14:44

Back from the scan. All is good! Baby has 4 limbs and a good heartbeat. I am measuring 13+1 as opposed to 12+3. Very happy and finally calm!

Hancock2020 · 28/04/2020 14:45

What's wrong with roast beef?

Hancock2020 · 28/04/2020 14:45

@SqidgeBum yey 🥳

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 14:48

@SqidgeBum congrats on the scan!

@Hancock2020 well I didn't think anything until I googled it. Listeria seems to be the main concern. Now in a right flap.

seventhrow · 28/04/2020 15:01

@wannabebump surely it's fine as long as it's properly cooked through? Deli roast beef would always be quite cooked, the problem might be with a home cooked joint and it being quite pink in the middle?

Hancock2020 · 28/04/2020 15:01

@wannabebump didn't know that, I wouldn't worry too much I should imagine its if the meat is close to spoiling or not stored at correct temperature then it could cause issues. But I'm no expert

Rainbowafterthestorm · 28/04/2020 15:02

@seventhrow, @BuffaloCauliflower*,**@MrsR87, I'm also due around the 10th November with my first baby. It seems there are quite a few of us. @MrsR87* I’m also from Derbyshire, I haven’t found a private scanning place near me either, but I’m waiting a hoping that the full lockdown lifts and the private scan places start to allow gender scans by the time I’m 16-18weeks. At least my OH can see the little one then. It might not happen, but crossing my fingers all the same.

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 15:05

@seventhrow @Hancock2020 cooked and packaged then bought in a sealed packet, in date and kept sealed and refrigerated. Will mention it at my appointment next week to be sure. Only ate half when it popped into my head. I'm feeling like a right idiot 😖

Natopp · 28/04/2020 15:06

@SqidgeBum yay!!

seventhrow · 28/04/2020 15:06

@Rainbowafterthestorm :-) I'm also hoping that we might be able to have partners in on later scans. Have been telling DH that hopefully he will be let in on the 20week scan. We've got quite a few places near us that do early scans etc (am in London) but would be a big hassle as we don't have a car.. The logistics plus my lack of symptoms to believe anything is actually wrong dissuaded us. My scan is on Thursday. Hugely excited.

Rainbowafterthestorm · 28/04/2020 15:08

@wannabebump, it’s more about pink meat, like a steak or roast joint. My OH has been using a meat thermometer on almost everything these last few weeks, especially BBQ food. I think the nhs website has clear advice on it though, he’s been checking that everytime is cooks. I can’t really face the smell of cooking at the minute (but happy eating a bit). I did manage to bake at the weekend though (much to my OHs delight, as baking is not his forte). I’m 12+1 today has anyone at that point noticed the nausea has come back with a vengeance over the last few days?

seventhrow · 28/04/2020 15:08

@wannabebump ah that's good then! Maybe good to bring it up but it's reassuring that it was sealed and in date. Would be different if you'd eaten it after doing the sniff test haha!!

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 15:10

@Rainbowafterthestorm ah ok. I've not cooked it, it's been cooked and then sold in the supermarket, like where you buy ham and roast beef. I am very conscious of any meat I cook, like chicken, making sure it's ok before serving. I've never been so stressed about food in my life as I have been since I got the BFP!

And yes to the sickness returning... I thought it had really started to go, then it reads it's ugly head again as if to say "just kidding" 😂

MrsR87 · 28/04/2020 15:13

@Rainbowafterthestorm
That's good to know. I will let you know if I manage to find anything! As people have said earlier today, I know we have to keep some perspective and I know we are luckier than millions of women around the world but I still feel a bit sad about the situation at times (and then I feel guilty!)

What I am thankful for though is how this has impacted my work. I am a secondary school teacher and so am now only physically in work once a week and on the other days I am working from home. This means I can go to the toilet when I want (which is all the time) which is impossible when you have 37 kids in your care! I am also eating my lunch at lunchtime instead of 4pm, which is when I usually get it. So, in that respect, I feel incredibly lucky to be afforded the chance to look after myslef and bump properly which I know would 100% not be happening in normal times!

I can't believe how tired I am all the time and again I feel super lucky in terms of work as I am usually at school from around 7.30am-6pm and work in the evenings and weekend too! Currently I am working around 9am-4pm but no evenings or weekends, and I am shattered so goodness knows how I would cope lol. Hats off to anyone currently in this trimester and doing long hours!!!

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 15:13

@seventhrow haha god no, not the sniff test!

Fouryearslater · 28/04/2020 15:21

Also beware of what sites you are googling. Many food warnings won’t be relevant in the uk because of our food standards (like we can eat raw egg because lion stamped chickens are vaccinated against salmonella - and even lesser risk of they are properly free range).

Anothercliche · 28/04/2020 15:22

@wannabebump the worry with pre-cooked, pre-sliced packaged meats is mostly a concern about listeria. So-called "deli" meats are not recommended in pregnancy because listeria can have a serious effect on the baby. However, how many people do you know who have ever had listeria poisoning? I'm guessing not many, if any at all because it's really rare. If you're feeling fine (no poisoning symptoms) then don't worry about it because you don't have listeria and therefore no harm to baby. The recommendations are based on extreme caution (if you're feeling anxious I recommend reading Emily Oster's Expecting Better - this goes into the science a bit more and should give you a good understanding of why these things are not recommended so that you can make informed choices about them). A packaged and in-date roast beef is very very unlikely to cause any harm.

The recommendations for pregnant women are different all over the world, based on different assumptions of levels of risk. Like, we are advised we can eat runny eggs here (due to all our chickens being vaccinated against salmonella), in France and Italy it's still very common for pregnant women to eat soft cheeses and drink small amounts of alcohol, and in Japan lots of pregnant women eat raw fish.

I hope that helps a bit?

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 15:28

Thanks @Anothercliche. How long do I give it to feel ok/unwell? I'm not googling listeria anymore 😢

AnxiousLady1 · 28/04/2020 15:33

@wannabebump I had similar concerns on Sunday after eating something. But after googling listeria and the side effects you would experience, I rationalized it in my head. If it had any effect on you you would know about it within a couple of days and the symptoms are pretty severe I think. And like @anothercliche has said, I certainly haven't heard of many (or any) cases of this happening to pregnant women.
