Hi ladies, I hope you’re all okay. I’ve spent a few days away from the site as I was starting to get so anxious about my scan on Tuesday. Feeling a lot more positive despite nausea and tiredness hitting me like a brick today.

On the topic of food, does anyone know if you can get helping with eating and nutrition whilst pregnant? I’ve gone off a lot of foods, I’m vegetarian and I’ve gone off a lot of meat substitutes as well. But even before I was pregnant I didn’t really eat a lot. I was used to having breakfast at work then a small dinner or snack when I got home from work and that would be it.
I know this isn’t enough food, and I’m worried my eating habits will potentially harm my baby, but sometimes I just physically can not eat a lot, and there’s not even a lot I do want to eat right now.
If I speak to a midwife do you think they can offer me some help? Or is there somewhere else I can look to getting help with nutrition?

Hancock2020 · 26/04/2020 18:20

Should I be concerned that I've stopped gaining weight?
For the first few weeks I gained 5lbs then 2 weeks ago lost 1lbs and hasnt changed since then, surely I should be gaining?

Anothercliche · 26/04/2020 18:35

@jeleigh you could ask the midwife for a referral to the dietitians, but it's unlikely they'd be able to see you right now with all the covid-19 stuff - a lot have been redeployed to ITU to help with tube feeding. If you pm me I might be able to give you some tips? The baby is really effective at taking what it needs, so I'd be a bit less concerned about the baby, and more concerned about your own stores.

@Hancock2020 it's not unusual to gain nothing in the first trimester or even lose weight. I wouldn't worry - the initial gain was probably water for increased blood volume. Baby is very very tiny right now and weighs barely anything.

Chuckem15 · 26/04/2020 18:37

Thanks @Anothercliche Yeah I was surprised when my bloods came back normal a week or so ago as really thought I was likely to be iron deficient. Thanks for the info re calcium and iron as I've been taking my multivits with iron at the same time as a calcium tablet (been taking since vegan/veggie) so might start taking them at different times. Also heard vitamin C helps absorption so tend to have an orange/ tangerine at the same time. I'm very much still into meat alternatives and luckily DH found Quorn nuggets in sainsburys but that was it on the Quorn front. Anyone else into the frozen Itsu range at Waitrose? They do veggie boa buns that you can microwave in 40 seconds! And dumplings you can fry up pretty quickly. So good with salty salty soy. Prob do meat ones too I just haven't done the shopping in a while

jeleigh · 26/04/2020 18:42

@Anothercliche thank you, providing all is good at my scan i’ll pop you over a message. I’ve got to see a consultant anyway in a couple of weeks so I might mention it to them whilst I’m there?
I actually completely forgot that I probably wouldn’t be able to see anyone because of CV! Baby brain hitting me already 😐

Anothercliche · 26/04/2020 18:52

@Chuckem15 yes vitamin c does help absorption of iron, so if you're eating meat or pulses high in iron (like lentils) then teaming it with tomatoes or peppers etc will help uptake. With liquid iron a small glass of orange juice, or eating almost any fruit (except bananas) will help. (Kiwis are particularly good, 1 kiwi = all the daily vitamin c you need in one go). Also itsy dumplings - yum yum yum!!

@jeleigh ask me anytime I'll be happy to help Smile

Anothercliche · 26/04/2020 18:53

*itsu ha!

Fouryearslater · 26/04/2020 19:37

@Hancock2020 I’ve lost KGs! I did last time too. I wouldn’t worry. Baby is tiny.

I haven’t taken my Ondansetron today and the laxatives the OOH GP prescribed haven’t done a jot. I feel rough as. It’s so miserable feeling like this (and I’m aware I’m not alone, but still raving in my pity party). I’m sat looking at another half glass of the stuff and I just know I’m going to puke it back up. But I have to try.

Supposed to be back at work tomorrow 😔

Spoons1987 · 26/04/2020 21:07

Just wanted to join the pity party. I’d forgotten how awful this stage of pregnancy is. I feel bad for even saying this, but my excitement has completely gone and I just feel really down and lethargic about the whole idea of a baby. I’m feeling like a bad mum to my daughter because I’m so useless at the minute, and I’m starting to worry that I’ve actually just become lazy?! And then wondering what on earth I was thinking in wanting another child to be a lazy mum to?

I think I remember all these feelings from the first time round, and it passed. But it really is so horrible feeling this sluggish and sick. Sending lots of empathy to anyone else feeling a bit flat!

Spoons1987 · 26/04/2020 21:09

@Fouryearslater I think I’ve seen it suggested somewhere upthread, but suppositories really are wonderful things. Worth a try if the lactulose doesn’t work and they don’t rely on you keeping the contents of your stomach down!

excitednerves · 26/04/2020 21:56

@spoons1987 I’ve kind of been the same. I have a 9 month old and some days I’ve been so exhausted I’m just supervising him rather than playing. Some nights if he’s not sleeping well I’ve wondered how on earth im going to cope with a newborn as well.

We will all be amazing mums though! When these new babies arrive we’ll make it work and love will get us through the tough days. Roll on getting our scans and the end of the first trimester!

excitednerves · 26/04/2020 21:59

Anyone having vivid dreams? Not sure if I’m just overtired but I’ve been having the clearest, mist realistic dreams the past few nights. Not always nice ones but I wake up feeling as if it was real.

Fouryearslater · 26/04/2020 22:04

@Spoons1987 pity party for two!

I googled suppositories and read mixed things on them being suitable in pregnancy. Will ask gp tomorrow.

I’m definitely being an absent parent too 😔 have all the guilt.

Fouryearslater · 26/04/2020 22:05

@excitednerves yes to the dreams! To the extent I’ve fallen out with my neighbour for something he did in my dream (not really but I woke feeling really resentful!)

Hancock2020 · 26/04/2020 22:09

@excitednerves yes I've been having dreams of the erotic nature Blush then waking up feeling really ready to go Wink

excitednerves · 27/04/2020 00:55

@Fouryearslater @Hancock2020 m so glad it’s not just me! Such a weird symptom / side effect.

wannabebump · 27/04/2020 09:01

I was having wild dreams - so realistic, convinced they could be true! They've subsided a bit now (I'm 12 weeks) but the excess saliva? OMG, it's gross 🤢

AnxiousLady1 · 27/04/2020 09:22

@wannabebump I didn't realise all the drooling on my pillow was a symptom of the excess saliva! Read that over the weekend.

wannabebump · 27/04/2020 09:27

@AnxiousLady1 I've had a for a while and finally googled it (fellow anxious lady trying to stay away from google!) last night and couldn't believe it's a real thing! I'm fine in the morning but as the day goes on it gets worse, come tea time I can't stand it! Hopefully will start subsiding soon for the 2 of us x

BabyKnighty1 · 27/04/2020 09:44

I’ve had a really dry mouth and huge thirst! Sucks at night time as it makes me go toilet all the time

wannabebump · 27/04/2020 10:08

@BabyKnighty1 I feel you with the multiple toilet trips a night! X

60sPony · 27/04/2020 10:20

@Spoons1987 I think it’s tough looking after a toddler at the moment as it is hard to stay motivated with no where to go when feeling knackered/poorly. Think if there was the usual groups/ swimming/ football etc for distraction it would be much easier.

Natopp · 27/04/2020 10:52

I'm a nanny for a nearly 7 year old and a just turned 2 year old. I'm suffering with real fatigue and just have no energy. I also feel like I am just supervising and not playing with the kids. It's too difficult and I am not physically able to get on the floor and play a game or run round the garden with them. Feel terrible but I have to look after myself. At least I'm showing up for work every day!!

TangBloodyFastic · 27/04/2020 11:34

Morning all!
Just come out of my scan and all is looking good, we seem to have a healthy baby 🥰
Measuring ahead too which I didn't expect and the lady said it was always good to see good growth 💪🏻Grin
Nausea has subsided which is great.
Hope everyone else is going well and anyone with scans today get the same lovely news i have just received
Feeling very grateful ☺️

Hancock2020 · 27/04/2020 11:38
