Another new thread for the Nov mums to continue our discussion. It’s nearly time for our dating scans!

@Pink15 if you appointment is at your local hospital, I’d get the number for the switch board online and ring and asked to be put through to antenatal care (scan appointments). If it’s a letter from your midwife, maybe ring your gp reception and ask for your local midwifery based number. I think that depends on your area though.

@WildflowerPetals I’m 11 weeks with my 1st and DH can’t come to our scan on the 28th. I’m also not allowed to film it. I’m absolutely gutted as me and DH live apart as he works away so I barely get to see him as it is. I’m just more concerned if it’s bad news and I don’t have him there for support

Pcosandpregnant · 17/04/2020 11:30

@Natopp it’s so weird isn’t it? Pregnancy really sends your body crazy

WildflowerPetals · 17/04/2020 11:36

@jeleigh I’m sorry to hear that, it must be extra hard on you both Sad That’s a concern of mine as well, at the minute everything seems fine but we obviously can’t be 100% until the first scan x

SqidgeBum · 17/04/2020 11:39

For anyone who has found out that they can/cannot take a video of their scan, how did you find that out? I have checked my hospitals website but cant see anything about videos of scans

I don't know if rules have changed but when I had dd 2 years ago dh couldn't be at the scan and I was told I wasn't able to take a video.

I was given 3 free pictures at my scan on Wednesday though.

jeleigh · 17/04/2020 11:50

@SqidgeBum I find out via a Facebook page which was made for the maternity ward I’ve chosen to give birth at. I think a few hospitals have them, they’re called Maternity Voices Partnership. Might be worth having a look to see if yours has one as that’s where I’m getting all my up to date info from at the moment.

Pink15 · 17/04/2020 11:52

@Rainbowafterthestorm thanks - I've just spoken to the antenatal booking team. Most unhelpful! They told me she thinks my appointment will be on phone even though my letter still says in person. I questioned when would I have the bloods and urine but she didn't know. I said to her I don't feel comfortable that my appointment has been changed to phone as I called them! I said I wanted some official confirmation as I don't want to miss my appointment! She was like maybe you will get a text... At this rate I'll be doing my booking appointment in the hospital car park on the phone just incase I do need to go in Hmm

Luckyme30 · 17/04/2020 12:05

I’ve just come back from my dating scan :) 12 weeks exactly so it only puts me forwards 2 days :)

She couldn’t get the nuchal measurements as baby was being too laid back and just would not budge!!!

Slightly worried now but she’s said I’m low risk :p

SqidgeBum · 17/04/2020 12:11

I just messaged my hospital on facebook (they seem to have a dedicated advice person) and someone answered me very promptly to say the videoing of scans goes against 'sonographer professional guidelines' so I wont be able to get a video of it for DH. A bit disappointed, and not really sure what the harm in a video of your own babys scan would cause, but the NHS love a policy, so not much can be done. Scan pictures will have to do.

Hancock2020 · 17/04/2020 12:12

Ok so I told my mum her Reed diffuser is making me feel really sick so I moved it, so she puts it back, so i hide it, she puts it back. WTF is wrong with her?!?!?!? She KNOWS it makes me feel physically sick!

Luckyme30 · 17/04/2020 12:17

Btw when I went for my scan today there were men all waiting outside! They are not allowing them in and there was a sign outside the ultrasound department to say that no partners are allowed past that point so I would say at the moment partners are a definite no no!

FireflyGirl · 17/04/2020 12:20

@Hancock2020 have you confronted her? DM I am throwing your stupid f*king stinky sticks out the f*king window moving your diffusers because the smell makes me feel ill. Why do you keep moving them back?

KatieGlo · 17/04/2020 12:21

AIBU - I've told my DH to stay at home (working) rather than drive me to the 12 week scan where he can't come in anyway. Seems crazy to lose 2/3 hrs pay to not see a baby... would rather him take those 2/3 hours off when he can actually be involved, otherwise would rather him keep earning a wage!

Sakura54 · 17/04/2020 12:22

I got a lot of stretch marks growing up. DM has none so when she saw my thighs as a little girl, she got shocked and told me to go to the GP! I thought it was inevitable to get them in pregnancy, but luckily I didn’t get much of a bump at all. In regards to what was discussed yesterday, being slim doesn’t mean you’ll show earlier. I’m probably of similar build to @sqidgebum....petite.

@Pink15 mine tried to call me 30 mins before my appt time, but I missed the call and was practically at the hospital, so they had no choice but to see me. It’s better to do the booking face to face and get all your checks out the way. Plus you get your maternity book.

@Luckyme30 that’s great your scan went well. Were you not able to change hospital in the end?

@KatieGlo YANBU, but it’s cute that he wants to take you. Do you think he’s worried or just wants to show support?

Hancock2020 · 17/04/2020 12:26

@FireflyGirl 🤣 love it.
No, I'm one of these people that just wants a quiet life and to be left alone tbh. And she'd only give me the "well it is MY house" line 🙄 she does give a damn about anybody else

wannabebump · 17/04/2020 12:26

@WildflowerPetals I'm in the same boat - scan is on Wednesday and been told DH can't go as well. I'm gutted for him not being there to see the baby/hear the heartbeat (fingers crossed all being well). I'm not so worried about the support as I had to go through and ectopic last year when we were apart and we were ok.

The MW did tell me to phone the day before just to double check, but I don't see it changing. Private scans in some places are still allowing a plus one in, so we'll book a gender scan for 16 weeks so we can do that together

Hope you're keeping well x

Luckyme30 · 17/04/2020 12:42

@Sakura54 I wouldn’t have been able to change hospitals in enough time - as it turns out they were happy to do the nuchal measurements and I signed all the paperwork but baby was too lazy and just wanted to sleep (she wasn’t worried) so said she just couldn’t get the measurements.

We tried to get baby to move (lifting legs and bum etc but just not enough)

Looks like I might try and get a private scan but they did try and get the measurements.

I’m waiting for a call from their consultant too for a few things so going to stick it out with this hospital but have said to midwife if I’m not happy with level of care I will move and she was happy with that so going to see how things progress :)

Pink15 · 17/04/2020 12:51

@Sakura54 that's ridiculous! Do they expect us to be psychic. Glad they still let you in for the appointment!

Workingmama1 · 17/04/2020 12:51

Thank you ladies for your kind words.

I'll be leaving this thread but wanted to wish you all a healthy and special pregnancy, even in these uncertain times xx

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/04/2020 13:18

Thank you @Workingmama1 - look after yourself x

My midwife specifically said I could take a voice memo of the heartbeat for my husband at the scan. Not sure what the situation is regarding videos though.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/04/2020 13:22

In fact, have just checked the MVP for my hospital (Chelsea and Westminster) and they are apparently encouraging the use of tablets and phones in antenatal appointments, including scans. 😃

canueve · 17/04/2020 13:22

Finally got my letter, it's in a different town - 30 min away, but it will be nice to get out of the house for a bit.
As they are following my LPD it would be me at 12+3 but my private scan put me back so I'll be 11+2 which I am hoping is ideal and not too soon.

It says here no recording of any kind and that I am allowed to bring someone, but I doubt it.
My husband is coming anyway just in case there's any bad news.

Fouryearslater · 17/04/2020 13:28

@FilthyforFirth I’m a couple of days behind you at 8 weeks today. I hope you can find a solution for the HG. I’m on a right combo of drugs, but I’m human and functioning so I need to persuade my GP to continue to prescribe what the hospital gave me.

Was relieved at my scan to find there was only one baby 😅 I did wonder if my sickness was increased so much because there were two in there! Girl maybe?! Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what comes in November!
