*annoyingly

HarrietM87 · 17/04/2020 10:19

@BuffaloCauliflower your sis could have got the stretch mark propensity from your dad I guess - it’s not something that only comes from your mum. Good bump support is helpful for your back and hips so I’d recommend that anyway, but I doubt it would affect the elasticity of your skin. It’s just pot luck. But if you do get them it’s nothing to worry about. And sounds like you’ve got a good chance you won’t if you haven’t had any before (I got them on boobs and hips in puberty) and your mum avoided them too.

ACatCalledLola · 17/04/2020 10:19

@Jaffas22 my edd is the 7th November but I’ll be having an elective section at 39 weeks so that’s 31st October. There will be babies on here born from October or earlier right through to December I expect.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/04/2020 10:21

Thanks @Rainbowafterthestorm

@SqidgeBum I am also bio oiling religiously now. I have found that it improves the appearance of stretch marks in the past. I guess (as much as possible) controlling weight gain will also help. I only have stretch marks on my thighs, from when I put on a lot of weight in my late teens (went from a size 6 to size 12 relatively quickly at university, I blame the pizza and beer).

Pink15 · 17/04/2020 10:25

@Tonicandgin yes I had a very vivid dream of lots of snakes being in our garden like hundreds of them and I thought it was because our grass was too long!! I'm going to make sure my husband keeps on top of it now 😂😂

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/04/2020 10:25

@HarrietM87 hmm. We have different Dads. Hers did have some stretch marks if I recall. He was also tall, so is she. I am short and so are my mum and dad - Less opportunity for stretching! Might text my Dad and ask about his stretchmarks 😂 but yes I’ve never had any, but I also didn’t grow much as a teen. Never had a growth spurt in height or boobs, just for gradually bigger over about 5 years. Time will tell I guess!

SqidgeBum · 17/04/2020 10:26

I have heard stretch marks are genetic, and my mom has loads of them after 2 kids. I was fully expecting to have them but they never appeared. However, I did weigh myself as I was in labour and then the day after I had DD, and I dropped 1 stone 3lbs literally overnight and I only gained 5lbs on top of that throughout my whole pregnancy, so weight wise i didnt go up much. However, my bump was massive compared to the size of me! (I am 5 foot nothing and a size 8). I was that person that people asked at 6 months if I was due soon

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/04/2020 10:28

@Tonicandgin (great name btw) yes it might well be genetic. Time will tell I guess. But I’ve also never grown at speed before!

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/04/2020 10:35

Can anyone tell me what sort of family health history questions are asked at booking in? I’ve only been in contact with my dad for a short time so don’t have as good a knowledge of his side of the family as my Mum’s. I want to check if I need to ask him anything

MissingMo · 17/04/2020 10:35

@Tonicandgin vivid dreams definitely. They're always very scary or sad ones too. Keep dreaming of being stuck somewhere and not being able to get home.

MissingMo · 17/04/2020 10:37

@BuffaloCauliflower I was asked about diseases mainly like diabetes, hearing problems or sight problems, family history of DVT. If you arent sure of the answer I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a worry just easier if they have a bit of a warning to assess risk

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/04/2020 10:41

@MissingMo thanks I don’t think there are any of those

ParisInTheSpringtime · 17/04/2020 10:51

@BuffaloCauliflower I was asked about all of the above, and also whether any of the family had high blood pressure. It was much less detailed than I was expecting to be honest.

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/04/2020 10:53

@ParisInTheSpringtime good to know, thank you. My mum does. My booking in isn’t for 2 more weeks, at 11+2, so quite late

Pcosandpregnant · 17/04/2020 10:53

Is anyone else constantly bloated? Up into a few days ago I would wake up fine and be bloated by the evening but now I seem to wake up bloated and just get more and more during the day Grin

MoreGinPlease2020 · 17/04/2020 10:54

@tonicandgin I'm having vivid dreams too which is starting to scare my fiancé a bit as I have been known to start sleepwalking when I get really stressed / excited about things. He hasn't had the joy of experiencing that yet but is convinced I'm going to fall down the stairs if I start wandering around!

Rainbowafterthestorm · 17/04/2020 10:57

@missingmo ours was more immediate family specific so
You and partner
Your parents and your siblings
Your partners parents and your partners siblings
We were asked about diabetes, blood pressure problems, Dvt, heart problems.
It might be worth having your partner in the background of the call to double check his side, the midwife spoke to mine for a while. :)

Natopp · 17/04/2020 11:01

@Pcosandpregnant yep bloated as soon as I eat my first meal of the day through to going to sleep. I'm 10+1 & feel as though I look about 4 months. It is uncomfortable but I have found peppermint tea has helped a lot.

MissingMo · 17/04/2020 11:01

@Rainbowafterthestorm I remember them asking about twins as well. I dont have on my side but my partner has twin nieces and twin cousins.

Pink15 · 17/04/2020 11:05

@BuffaloCauliflower my booking will be when I'm 10+6 so also very late - doesn't look like my 12 week scan will be any time soon as they only book it at booking :( someone told me that the hospital are reducing the number of scan slots to make sure they're more spread out so less women waiting around and time to clean etc in between but does mean the scans are being pushed back :(

WildflowerPetals · 17/04/2020 11:05

Hi all! Not been on here for a while so it’ll take me ages to catch up. Sorry if this has already been mentioned but is anyone pregnant with their first baby and not allowed their partner at the 12 week scan? My scan is next Wednesday (it will be our first scan) and it looks like DH won’t be able to attend - we’re both gutted Sad x

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/04/2020 11:11

@Pink15 I’ve helpfully already got my scan date, I had that letter before my booking appointment, it’s at 12+5. Can you query your scan with them? It might be too late to pick up problems if left too long.

@WildflowerPetals also pregnant with first baby, currently 9+2, and haven’t been told directly DH can’t come to the scan but I think it looks very likely. We’re sad about it but honestly I’m just grateful we even live in a time and place where we get scans and antenatal healthcare at all, we’re very lucky, and not being at the scan won’t take away any of DHs happiness about the baby coming or bonding when the time comes

Pink15 · 17/04/2020 11:13

@BuffaloCauliflower on the letter it says please give us a call on the above number to change your appointment and then there are no numbers above! So don't even know how I'd contact them 😭

HarrietM87 · 17/04/2020 11:17

@WildflowerPetals I think it’s standard now. Hopefully by the time of the 20 week scan they’ll be able to come. Ask them if you can take a video of it - then you can both watch it back later (I think this is potentially better than having them there as they don’t normally allow videos and it’s so nice to have one that you can both watch and rewatch).

WildflowerPetals · 17/04/2020 11:22

@BuffaloCauliflower I obviously feel very grateful for being able to have a scan but I’m just sad we won’t be able to experience seeing the baby for the first time together.

@HarrietM87 I’m going to ask if I can FaceTime him or take a video, I’m just worried they won’t allow that either.
