Another new thread for the Nov mums to continue our discussion. It’s nearly time for our dating scans!

People with kids - what are your feelings on using your existing children in the announcement?! I can’t decide if it’s cute or cringe! There’s a nice little sweatshirt in John Lewis that says “brother” on it so I was contemplating getting it for my son and then putting a pic of him wearing it up casually on our family WhatsApp group. Might be too subtle for some of them!

SqidgeBum · 16/04/2020 19:53

@HarrietM87 we just plan on telling DHs extended family over facebook chat, although my parents will be telling their siblings themselves as there are so many of them. To be honest, I am part of a huge irish family.Another baby is really not a big deal. For social media my plan is to just have a t shirt that says 'I am going to be a big sister' alongside the scan picture and put that on facebook. We keep all pics of our DD off social media, so there wont actually be a picture of her.

HarrietM87 · 16/04/2020 19:58

Also big Irish family here, but DS is the first grandchild on both sides and there’s only been one other on DH’s side since so it’s still an event! There’s nothing of DS on social media so it’s just how we tell wider extended family over WhatsApp really. Too many to call individually!

MissingMo · 16/04/2020 20:26

@eleanorsos I am going to wait to tell people in person but I feel fairly relaxed about people knowing and in no rush to tell anyone who doesn't know already!

Workingmama1 · 16/04/2020 20:29

Didn't get good news at my scan this afternoon unfortunately. Looked like it hadn't grown since last week and no heartbeat visible, so they have confirmed a miscarriage. Measuring about 6 weeks when I am nearly 9.
She didn't want to say for sure but said it could have been twins!
The clinic were really good and rang the hospital who have said to keep my appointment for next week where they will confirm and discuss options with me if nothing happens in the meantime.
It's a kind of relief to be out of limbo but now I need to properly face into what is happening 😥 its still a bit of a waiting game but at least I now know the final outcome x

@workingmama1
I'm so sorry to read this. How are you holding up? Have you got support? Just completely rotten.

NoseringGirl · 16/04/2020 20:49

I'm so sorry @Workingmama1 sending you lots of love and I hope you've got some good support around you Thanks

seventhrow · 16/04/2020 20:50

@Natopp - if you get IBS at all or get pregnancy tummy aches from all your insides rearranging then do consider the liquid options. The tablets are very hard on your digestive system - turn your poo black and solid as rocks (sorry tmi). Also have a strange side effect of metallic taste in your mouth - my husband said it was like kissing a battery. The liquid forms are much more gentle on the stomach and do the same job. I think they are slightly more expensive than the base iron price of the tablets so the NHS prescribes the tablets (interestingly whenever I've got tablets the pharmacist has sold them at the packet price rather than prescription price as they are very cheap). Pretty certain the human body finds it easier to absorb the iron from the liquid. (I get anaemia way too regularly...)

So sorry to hear that @Workingmama1 Sad be kind to yourself x

Hancock2020 · 16/04/2020 21:06

Does anyone know when our sense of smell will return to normal, having the nose of a bloodhound is being a curse, a LOT of smells are turning my stomach and I can smell everything! 😷🙊

Natopp · 16/04/2020 21:07

@seventhrow sorry just seen your reply thank you so much!! I think by the sounds of it the liquid form would suit me much more so I may forget this prescription and order my own (spatone) off of amazon! Think it's a tenner for 42 packets which is doable. Can't stand metallic tastes so liquid iron in orange juice will have to suffice! Thanks again.

@Workingmama1 I'm so sorry to hear this.

AnxiousLady1 · 16/04/2020 21:08

@Workingmama1 Really sorry to hear this. Please take care of yourself. xx

futuredreams · 16/04/2020 21:11

Sakura54 · 16/04/2020 21:14

@Workingmama1 sorry to hear. I wish you the best.

@excitednerves gosh that must have been scary! Do they think it will happen again? I also had a preemie but only just...nowhere near as early as yours. I have a horrible feeling it’s going to happen again, meaning another EMCS and small baby. Tbh I was thinking I’d be the 1st in this thread to have their baby lol.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 16/04/2020 21:28

@Workingmama1 I am so sorry x

@Sakura54 mine is 1030. Does anyone know how long it is likely to take? I have to have my bloods/urine done at the same time. I’m wondering if I should take the morning off work. I can get away with being away from my desk for an hour or two, but not much longer.

mrs2468 · 16/04/2020 21:35

@Workingmama1 I’m sorry for your loss. I miscarried two days ago at 9 weeks. Resting is all I’m doing. Not sure when or if I’ll feel normal again but talking about it seems to help x

Pcosandpregnant · 16/04/2020 21:41

@Workingmama1 I am so sorry. Look after yourself xx

ACatCalledLola · 16/04/2020 21:45

excitednerves · 16/04/2020 21:49

@Workingmama1 I’m so so sorry to hear this. Flowers

@Sakura54 yes, fully expecting another preemie. I don’t want to add to anyone’s worries but it’s a known issue for me.

Having one preemie doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have another though. My mum had my brother 6 weeks early and I was 2 weeks late and had to be induced, so there’s proof it can go either way.

If you know why it happened the first time (and most people don’t) I think it can help predict your chances of it happening again.

LozEliza · 16/04/2020 21:51

@bluebell94 @anxiouslady1 thanks I'll wait until the post on Monday then give them a call if I still haven't received anything! Hate the fact I'll be 11 weeks next Tuesday potentially without a scan date and time booked in 😥!

This thread is moving so fast wow can't keep up!

So sorry to hear your sad news @workingmama1 thinking of you Thanks
