My scan is Thursday to. Super anxious about it 😔 can't shake the fear that there is something wrong with either of them.

Anon20something · 08/05/2020 22:10

@Sunflower1608 sending lots of love, I know what it’s like. I hope (and do believe!) that everything will be okay xx

footprintsintheslow · 09/05/2020 07:16

Can I tentatively join here everyone. I've been here before then went back to sister thread.

Basically I lost my daughter at 20 weeks in October and then had a miscarriage at 7 weeks in February.

Good strong positive test this morning with a due date (let's see) of 16th Jan.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 09/05/2020 15:16

@footprintsintheslow welcome! I do recognise your name from previous thread. Congratulations on your bfp, and good luck in the coming weeks - we all know how nerve-racking the first weeks are xxx

TunnocksTcake · 09/05/2020 17:06

@Anon20something @Sunflower1608 ooh lots of scans next week, there are a group of us going on Monday I think. I have been worrying about movements too, some days they are so strong and unmistakable and others they are very intermittent and just like the waves and rolls not little taps.

I'm very glad to be only 2 days away now and feel that is a manageable amount of time to get through before we know for sure if everything's ok. I know on the day I will be a mess but dh has taken the whole day off work so he can keep me busy til 3:00- damn afternoon scans!

I've reached 20 weeks today, almost disbelieving that I have got this far to be honest but I'm so happy to have made it halfway 😊 feels like a big milestone and it's reassuring my body can carry a baby for so long. Fingers crossed we will make it full term and finally get our rainbows

ravenwheeler · 09/05/2020 18:13

Okay if I join? I had an (M)MC in February at 11 weeks, super strong positive test two days ago at 4+2.

Knotemma · 10/05/2020 08:57

@footprintsintheslow @ravenwheeler welcome and gentle congratulations to you both. You've come to the right place for support, hand holding and an outside perspective to get you out of your own heads! It's a nice mix of venting, scan anxiety and positive news!

Littlegoth · 10/05/2020 09:57

Good news on my scan yesterday, we are having a boy. Still can’t get used to scans bringing good news. Spent some time this morning putting stuff in my online basket which is lovely.

Scan itself was really well managed. I’ve had my hospital changed but it was easy to find and one in one out policy made it less stressful. Good luck to everyone else xx

footprintsintheslow · 10/05/2020 09:59

Thanks for the welcomes and hello fellow newbie @ravenwheeler.

I recognise you too @MOGMOGMOG85 I remember you getting your bfp and leaving us for here. So glad you are still here!

I wanted to ask about taking aspirin.

After the last miscarriage my midwife said "unofficially you should take an aspirin every day during your next pregnancy. Don't say I said but just do it".

My friend said it's baby aspirin that I need so I bought these before lockdown but now I'm scared to take them. What do other people here do?

Also I'm taking Pregnacare original every day but is that a high enough folic acid dose. When people say high dose what does that mean?

Littlegoth · 10/05/2020 09:59

@TunnocksTcake good luck! Mine was in the afternoon too and I can’t remember anything from yesterday morning I was so stressed x

Littlegoth · 10/05/2020 10:10

@footprintsintheslow I take 150mg aspirin every day and will need to whether pregnant or not but this is because I have been diagnosed with APS. This pregnancy game less than a month after diagnosis so we didn’t wait around! I can’t speak for other medical conditions but even before diagnosis it was suggested to me that I might want to take 75mg. It’s because if you do have an undiagnosed clotting condition this can affect implantation or cause tiny clots in the placenta. I would advise you to speak to your GP either way but most I have spoken to weren’t pro or against either way.

Studies show aspirin is more effective at night - the reasons aren’t clear though. I take mine at 9pm following consultant advice.

I also had 5mg folic acid prescribed as my BMI was over 35 at my first miscarriage - I did lose (a tiny bit of) weight after this which took me below the 35 threshold, but continued with the higher dose as on the advice of my GP ‘it wouldn’t hurt’.

Wishing you luck xx

Littlegoth · 10/05/2020 10:10

Came, not game

AnxiousLady1 · 10/05/2020 10:17

@Littlegoth congratulations on the scan and your little boy! You must he relieved to have that hurdle out of the way and be able to more comfortably move into the planning/shopping stage. Xx

Knotemma · 10/05/2020 10:41

@Littlegoth that's brilliant news over the moon that your little boy is looking well! Now for the fun bit... Shopping! X

Littlegoth · 10/05/2020 11:07

😃

footprintsintheslow · 10/05/2020 12:05

Thanks for the advice @Littlegoth and congratulations on the positive scan.

Were you allowed any one with you in the scan?

Avocuddles · 10/05/2020 12:38

Hi all, lots of posts to catch up on!

Firstly welcome to the new faces on here, really glad you've found our wonderfully friendly and supportive board, it really has been a godsend for so many of us to have somewhere to share the rollercoaster of pregnancy after loss with others who truly understand.

@ravenwheeler strong positive is a good start, hopefully the coming weeks will be kind to you.

@footprintsintheslow it's great to have you back. Hopefully we will both be in the third time lucky club....
Re aspirin and high dose folic acid it is worth speaking to your GP as for some women aspirin in particular is not advised in the early weeks as it may actually increase their risk. I have a history of deep vein thrombosis so am on 150mg aspirin daily which I take with my evening meal, along with blood thinner injections every morning. I've been on this regime for both of my unsuccessful pregnancies as well as the current one and whilst hopefully it is keeping me and baby well, it's not been without it's downsides as I've had nosebleeds, bleeding gums and bruising, all of which are made worse by the meds. I'd suggest that you speak to a doctor first rather than just start taking aspirin just to make sure that they think that it's appropriate for you.....
Re high dose folic acid, it's usually prescribed for larger ladies (BMI 30+) and sometimes older mums, in particular those over 40. Again there's no harm is asking whether they think it will be a good idea, but the pregnacare tablets will have the full recommended daily allowance so should in most instances be more than sufficient. The pregnacare max ones are particularly good because the folic acid is delivered in folate form which is more easily absorbed by the body, but they are also the most expensive.....

@Littlegoth congrats on the scan and finding out that you're having a little boy! Mine is tomorrow and I'm feeling pretty anxious about it (@Sunflower1608 I know how you feel, I've been distant the past few days as the nerves keep building....)
Hopefully I will have some good news to report tomorrow, I guess in the next 24 hours I'll know one way or the other.... I'm not at my usual (huge city centre) hospital but at a smaller one in another town which only deals with outpatients so should be far less risky. I'll be back to the main hospital for my next consultant appointment all being well - has your hospital for the birth been changed or just for other appointments? Will you have any more scans now or is that it?

@Anon20something lovely bump photo and great that you're feeling wiggles. I'm still not feeling regular ones but have regular 'is that baby or gas' moments.....I can't wait to feel definite kicks to reassure me that there's definitely someone in there.

@Knotemma you look fantastic and the jeans look great and very comfy!

@TunnocksTcake good luck to you for tomorrow!
The halfway point is a huge milestone, hoping it might be the point as which we can start to actually believe there might be a baby coming into our lives.....

@AnxiousLady1 @MOGMOGMOG85 @Whiffle77 @Rachael321 @MrsMGE (and everyone else) I hope you're all having a relaxing weekend

Hi ladies, can I join?? I'm 8+2 with my 3rd pg .... had 2 mc’s last year so absolutely terrified this one will go the same way. Have a private scan booked for next Sunday as the EPU are trying to “reduce footfall through the hospital” ....

Haven't told anyone we're pg again so would love somewhere to talk about it all!!

TunnocksTcake · 10/05/2020 17:43

Welcome to all the newbies, I hope you're in here for the long haul and you all get your rainbows. It has been a god send for me at times of high anxiety. I'm afraid @footprintsintheslow I can't advise re higher dose folic or aspirin, but I would definitely speak to a dr. I know how it feels to want to do everything possible to give yourself a better chance this time but it may do more harm than good if you don't actually need it.

@Littlegoth congratulations on a positive scan, I hope to be joining you in the excited buying camp tomorrow.

Good luck for tomorrow @Avocuddles and I think there are a few others having scans tomorrow too, best of luck to you all. As you say this time tomorrow we will know either way. I'm feeling surprisingly calm this evening, but I doubt I will sleep. Annoyingly I have to wait until 3:00 which will be agony!

Nothing has changed for us re hospitals but ours was a big city centre one anyway. I know the smaller birthing units now aren't allowing overnight stays so if you go there for birth and it goes into the night you will be taken to the larger hospital now, seems a bit pointless really. I was put off going there anyway as if anything bad happens/ you need a c section you go in an ambulance but dh has to follow in the car... that would just be awful plus traffic between the two is shocking so would rather be at the hospital from the start just in case. Luckily the maternity dept has its own entrance so there's a fairly low chance of infection.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 10/05/2020 18:42

Best of luck @Avocuddles and @TunnocksTcake for your scans tomorrow xxx

@TJ88123 welcome and congratulations on your bfp. I really hope your scan goes well next week - I know the wait can be agony. xxx

MysteriousSheep · 10/05/2020 18:54

Another welcome to all the newbies on the thread. I don’t post loads, but I check in most days and have found it a really helpful and supportive space to share experiences, it’s definitely helped me through the awful first trimester (not quite through yet!).
I’ve also got a scan this week - it’s my 12 week scan on Thursday. I am a bit more hopeful now that it won’t be another mmc for me, as I can feel my uterus growing and just am (today at least) hopeful that baby is alive. However, I have basically moved on from worrying about mmc to worrying that baby will have a neural tube defect or something!
I love reading the posts from you lot who are further ahead, great so many have reached the ‘half way’ milestone, hoping for lovely straightforward scans for everybody this week.

TJ88123 · 10/05/2020 19:09

Ah that's great, thanks for the welcome!

I can not free my experience re the aspirin - I went to a private consultant after MMC #2 last year & he wasn't even remotely interested but said as I was leaving (after the 10 min appt) "oh, next time try baby aspirin once a day. Start it after ovulation as it can mess with ovulation" so I've been taking aspirin for the past 6/7 weeks. Both my pregnancies failed at about the 8 week mark (where I am now) so maybe the scan next week will tell me if the aspirin worked Hmm I'm also on 5mg folic acid, though am quite small (52kg) but it's cus I was low when they tested a couple years ago.

Hope you're all keeping well xx

TJ88123 · 10/05/2020 19:10

offer my experience

AnxiousLady1 · 10/05/2020 19:30

@avocuddles and @TunnocksTcake Best of luck with your scan tomorrow! xx

footprintsintheslow · 10/05/2020 19:39

Re: aspirin
Has anyone read this book in the picture. It was recommended on the sister thread and there is a chapter on taking aspirin. Very interesting and I'm carrying on to finish the book even though I've moved to this thread.

Seems a bit morbid I know but it's so interesting and the end bit is all about moving forward and coping with pregnancy after loss.
