Ladies, quick question as I've never experienced that (and not sure if it's pregnancy-related?). I woke up this morning feeling extremely weak, the sort of extreme fatigue feeling that you get if your sugar levels really drop. It then turned into dizziness and I felt too weak to get out of bed until DH brought me a cup of tea with sugar and yes, you've guessed that one right, my ultimate favourite jam & cheddar on toast 😂 It then went away after about 10 mins and I'm feeling ok today. Is this actually linked to pregnancy, did any of you experience something similar?

AnxiousLady1 · 06/05/2020 15:37

@MrsMGE I thought the last time you mentioned jam and cheddar together it was a typo 😂

I had mornings where I definitely felt super quesy if I didn't eat before getting out of the bed. I kept biscuits next to the bed and would nibble those as soon as I woke. Or DH would get me some tea and toast. I gather dizziness/light headedness is pretty common in pregnancy and I've had it at points, but can't recall for sure whether it was first thing in the morning. Would make sense though if you are suddenly getting up from a period of rest.

SammiLou2312 · 06/05/2020 16:12

@MrsMGE I suffered quite badly with dizzy spells during first trimester. Still get the odd moments at almost 21 weeks. Midwife told me it was a mixture of low blood pressure and low sugar levels, especially when trying to get up quickly, climbing the stairs or getting out of bed on a morning. Like others have suggested, a drink and something to eat can help. I was living on ginger biscuits during 1st trimester to deal with nausea so usually had a pack of these next to my bed lol x

SammiLou2312 · 06/05/2020 16:16

@AnxiousLady1 I had a book called Your New Pregnancy Bible recommended to me and have really found it interesting to read. It's good to dip in and out of and covers from preconception to early days following birth. might be worth a look x

MrsMGE · 06/05/2020 17:23

Haha @AnxiousLady1 your post cracked me up 😂 No, definitely not a typo, it's my go to meal!

@SammiLou2312 Thanks, lovely, it's probably because I got up to go to the toilet first, maybe too fast, and it's floored me. I never normally feel so weak, it got me very confused!

@AnxiousLady1 Whatever you do, don't buy Clemmie Hooper's pregnancy books, I found them shallow and pretentious, so many eye rolls whilst reading 😂

AnxiousLady1 · 06/05/2020 17:31

@MrsMGE I love cheese with chilli jam, so to be fair the idea isn't totally random I guess 😂

Interesting on the book! Is that the author of How to Grow a Baby and Push it Out? Incidentally my MIL wanted to buy that for me as soon as we told her we were expecting. I politely declined, but only based on the title.

I was doing some research yesterday and What to Expect seems a bit American. Ultimately want something that will give a general idea of what to expect in a non-threatening way, so I don't resort to googling everything and freaking myself out further!

AnxiousLady1 · 06/05/2020 17:31

@SammiLou2312 Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look into that one 😀

MrsMGE · 06/05/2020 17:37

That's it @AnxiousLady1, I have this book, wouldn't buy it again. Plus she turned out to be quite a nasty individual, didn't she slag off her own husband online under a nickname, I'm sure there was a hoo-hah about this in the press not long ago?

Anon20something · 06/05/2020 17:41

I had Clemmie’s book last time round. There was some interesting bits but nothing you wouldn’t find online! And loads of it was a bit pretentious and looking back if i read it now I wouldn’t be best pleased at the way its very ‘perfect pregnancy’ aimed. Much preferred my hypnobirthing one which was just as informative, and starting it again now post loss I find it really relatable and reassuring as well as it openly talks about things not always going to plan and how to cope etc. And yes, I followed her on Instagram... it was a right hoo-ha! She’s made other accounts criticising her kids and all sorts! Very odd!

Knotemma · 06/05/2020 17:42

@AnxiousLady1 I've got the what to expect app and find the info very American and all a bit too cutesy for my liking. "How to grow a baby and push it out" is the most off-putting title! Not surprised you declined. I've got to admit I'm loving YouTube as a resource at the minute, less pregnancy and more labor and postpartum. I am making sure to avoid any negative/horror story style titles though. Yes things can go wrong in labor, but no one needs to be scared by people. I'm really hoping for a birth with minimal medical intervention, so looking into hypnobirthing, breathing techniques etc too. I'm such a planner, my poor DH keeps wandering through the living room while I'm watching stuff, he must think I'm off my head!

AnxiousLady1 · 06/05/2020 17:52

Very intrigued by all this Hoo-Ha business! 😂

I've made a note to look into the Hypnobirthing recommendations on here, but will hold off until after 20 weeks for that one.

@Knotemma I'm a planner too. But there's also a part of me that doesn't want to get too ahead of myself just yet. But then again, reading Harry Potter books as a form of keeping myself calm in lockdown probably isn't the best way of mentally prepping for pregnancy! 😂😂

Knotemma · 06/05/2020 18:02

@AnxiousLady1 reading the Harry Potter books sounds like perfect pregnancy planning to me! I've just kind of fallen into research in the last 2 or 3 weeks. I think because we want to cloth nappy and I'm very focused on breastfeeding, there are quite a few things that we could do with being prepared for. But I've just let myself watch/read/do what feels comfortable. 4 weeks ago no way would I have been ready to sit down and watch videos like 10 things your labor and delivery nurse wants you to know (Nurse Zabe on YouTube, genuinely brilliant, funny sweet and positive. Yes American, but tries to look at things internationally when she can). I didn't put a time limit on when I was or wasn't going to do stuff, because I then think I'd have felt pressured, this way for me it's been able to flow more naturally

MOGMOGMOG85 · 06/05/2020 19:28

My scan went well! I'm measuring 4 days ahead which is impossible because I didn't have sex until 2 days after conception in that case... but anyway what amazing news. I was shaking when she located the pregnancy (which was immediately - so different to last time)!!

Feeling a bit crampy now after the ultrasound, has anyone else had this?

:) thank you to everyone for all your endless support during that difficult time before I knew there was anything there xxx

@MOGMOGMOG85 really pleased for you, good news! I was bruised after one scan last time and a bit crampy, sometimes they push quite hard! X

@Mogmogmog85 that's great news! I was told that dating can be up to 5 days either way before about 12 weeks, because they're so curled up! So pleased that the scan went well for you

MrsMGE · 06/05/2020 20:04

@AnxiousLady1 I think @Anon20something made a great point re this book being "picture perfect" about the pregnancy. That would annoy the hell out of me now! So Clemmie who is a midwife was slaghing off her husband anonymously and defending herself on an online forum where she was criticised by some users. She also used thinly veiled racist digs, apparently. In summary, not the kind of midwife whose advice you want to read, she has a nasty streak. The super-Clemmie managed to "push out" two sets of perfect twins, urgh, well done you, eyeroll!

@MOGMOGMOG85 Congratulations, lovely! I'm so happy for you ❤️ Put your feet up now 😊

SammiLou2312 · 06/05/2020 20:05

Brilliant news @MOGMOGMOG85 so happy for you x

MrsMGE · 06/05/2020 20:06

@AnxiousLady1 Forgot to add, Zoe Clark-Coates writes excellent books, there's a whole series starting from books about baby loss, grief guides and then I believe she has an upcoming book about pregnancy after loss. She may have already released it actually, I'll have a look myself.

AnxiousLady1 · 06/05/2020 20:13

@MOGMOGMOG85 Fantastic news!!! So pleased for you. Be sure to relax and bask in the good news for the rest of the evening.

I've definitely been crampy after scans. But that said I was crampy off and on whole way through first trimester. I get crampy feelings now too but think it's just normal stretching. I rolled over to my other side in bed last night and the ligament pull I felt when I did they was almost enough to make me yelp. Usually I only get that (little milder) if I sneeze or cough. Or retch as it goes.😬

@MrsMGE Okay Clemmie really doesnt sound like someone to take advice from. 😂 I'd be interested in that other book of it's released!

tmc14 · 06/05/2020 20:18

@MOGMOGMOG85 ah I'm so pleased for you! Perfect! My first was the same, they were sure of my dates and I told them it would have to be an immaculate conception! ha. Hope you get at least a couple of days of feeling positive now xxx I did feel crampy at the weekend after my scan, I put it down to them prodding so much, and also being so desperate for a wee through it that it caused me pain!

@Knotemma I was very similar to you in my first pregnancy wanting as little intervention as possible, which is why I did a lot of yoga and hypnobirthing. But as I said upthread, I also found it invaluable when things didn't go to plan at all. I won't bore (or scare) you with my birth story, but hypnobirthing allowed me to stay in my bubble the entire time, I had a very traumatic birth on just gas and air and didn't really engage with the pain at all. What was also really important was my husband was a really strong advocate, he knew exactly what I wanted/didn't want, so even when I ended up on a labour ward, I still had low lights, my music and affirmations playing, and one person in the room at a time. I also found the staff really respectful of my wishes. I don't recommend much as everyone is different but hypnobirthing (and pelvic floor exercises!) to me were the two most important things I did.

Knotemma · 06/05/2020 20:43

@tmc14 I'm glad that it helped you have a more positive experience. That's all I'm hoping for. I'm going into this understanding that things don't go to plan, I might need intervention, I might need medication etc. But if I can be prepared and ready to advocate for myself I feel like that will give me the tools I need to cope with that, if that makes sense. I'd love to be able to do all natural, but I'm ok with the fact that might not happen

tmc14 · 06/05/2020 20:52

@Knotemma That's all you can really do. But also, I wanted a home birth for my first, which didn't happen, but it really annoyed me when some people were really patronising about the fact I hoped for that, as if of course it wasn't going to happen. But two women (out of 8) in my hypnobirthing group did get a home birth, and more than half of women who want a home birth for their first baby manage one. And even if you go into hospital, it can still be really hands off. I was just unlucky, with a lazy, giant headed baby Grin Although I know I'm going straight to labour ward this time, and they don't want me to go over 40 weeks, I'm still hoping for the nicest experience I can get, with as little intervention as I can manage within the constraints of being high risk. Better to aim for the ideal, then you've got a hope of getting it!

tmc14 · 06/05/2020 20:59

@knotemma that was a bit rambling and probably didn't make sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is, there is no reason why you won't get a hands off, totally lovely, non medical birth, as lots of people do! You just don't hear about it as much I think. So it's much better to aim for that and work backwards if needed. There's no reason at this point why you wouldn't get the birth you want. And I think hypnobirthing really helps you to stay in the place you need to be to minimise the chances of intervention, and you 'wobble' less and don't doubt yourself and your body's capabilities.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 06/05/2020 21:00

Ok, now I'm definitely pregnant I've remembered that I have 3 large fibroids (5-7cm) that I was aware of before but sort of forgot about as my main concern was getting pregnant. Now I am pregnant, I've suddenly remembered that the not-so-little bastards can cause problems - mainly degeneration pain which is apparently quite likely with large ones in the second trimester, and apparently something akin to appendicitis and way worse than labour... does anyone on here have experience of pregnancy with fibroids by any chance? xx
