How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

That's really useful to know @falkor32 I didn't know the pathways had changed! But makes sense I guess to limit contact if it isn't necessary I guess 😊 Do you get a 32 week scan in your area then?! That's lovely to get an extra one! Just the 12 and 20 week scans here for us, but I need another at 34 weeks as I had a low lying placenta when I went for the 20 weeks scan.

Regarding the 4D scan, they might not do an actual 4D one for you but maybe they could do the ones where they scan you normally and then have a sneak peak in 4D so you can at least see? That's what window to the womb did for our 16 week gender scan- although like a PP said they don't quite look cute and cuddly.. my OH said she looked like a goat 😳

falkor32 · 23/04/2020 09:22

@squashie34 the pathway etc. has changed for where I'm based not sure if this is going to to be the same everywhere. By my trust offer as standard 36 week growth scans. Thankfully I'm low risk but if the 36 week scans were indefinitelycancelled going forward due to coronavirus, then anyone not low risk would still get their 36 week scan. Hope that helps.

JMill13 · 23/04/2020 09:41

@WorriedButterfly oh hey Birth day twin lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was beginning to drive myself crazy worrying that something was wrong. If it wasn't for the whole wide awake, peeing every hour, being murdered by heartburn, bump thing I'd swear I wasn't pregnant. Maybe it's the calm before the storm and we'll be getting kicked to bits in a week or so.

@Nfblues sorry about the house! We were looking to buy just before all of this. First time ever trying to find a house hoping to get it sorted before baby came and then the Universe had other ideas. Hopefully it works out better after all of this. First little while baby won't really need a nursery so hopefully that eases your mind a wee bit. As for the garden photoshoot I think that's a fab idea. Sod the neighbours.

@Beau2020 whopping cough jab isn't that bad, it did hurt me as it went in but more of a bad sting than hurt. The arm does hurt for a few days after though, which makes sleeping super fun.

me and my bfs anniversary was on Friday there and before all this we had been planning to spend the weekend at a spa hotel with the dog, they have these lodge things by the lough that allow dogs but then all this happened, we'd also been planning a baby moon somewhere hot for 4 or 5 days sunshine together in like May or June before baby but no such luck.

@squashie34 I had to delete Twitter a while back for a few days for this reason. I was becoming obsessive and getting panicky about, couple days break, no news on the TV and it really helped. I now avoid as much news as possible.

Welcome to all the newbies. Nice to meet you all! I hope everyone is doing well.

@Rachyrach1930 I have no experience of 4D scans but my friend had one last year and absolutely loved it. The 4D scan photos freak me out so wasn't planning on getting one but I was going to go get a private scan done so that my OH could see the baby but read on the window to the womb website they're only doing medically necessary scans for now to keep everyone safe, worth a try though.

Superscientist · 23/04/2020 10:12

I've resigned myself that I won't be returning to my office before my mat leave starts. My company started pulling vulnerable people out of the office about 10 days before the lockdown and as I commute by public transport even if they reopen the office I think I will be kept as a home worker, they are quite cautious.

My nausea has returned too, pretty sure it is due to the acid reflux. Food is fine but any drinks are agony even sips of water. I've just had a text from my gp surgery to say the consultant has written to them to prescribe some medication to help as otc isn't doing much.
How have you gone about getting your mat1b form? I was going to ask at my obstetrics appointment on Friday but I had it by phone instead and forgot to ask.
I've still not bought anything, I really should start but I am trying to minimise the number of people coming to the door.

KittyKat2020 · 23/04/2020 10:22

I’m due 19th August and having a boy 💙
It’s rubbish that this is our first and my OH hasn’t been able to go to the scans due to the coronavirus lockdown. My baby shower might even be cancelled so I’m really struggling with it all

squashie34 · 23/04/2020 10:43

@Superscientist I had my 25 week midwife appointment over the phone yesterday and she said that they're trying not to post Mat1b forms out due to fraud risk so to collect at the 28 midwife appointment which is in person, but to contact work to make sure they didn't urgently need it. Maybe speak to your Hr?

Superscientist · 23/04/2020 10:47

Thanks! I have emailed hr today to give my mat leave start date and gave them a heads up that I don't know when I will be able to get the form due to the current circumstances.

JMill13 · 23/04/2020 11:41

@superscientist I think it's the heartburn making me sick too. I've been worse this week than I was in the first trimester. Thankfully I can still eat and drink though that's all thanks to the gavascon I've been guzzling. Also been living on ice lollys which help a lot.

JMill13 · 23/04/2020 12:29

Hey ladies!

Just wanted to let you know, there's a baby sale on at Boots at the minute for anyone wanting to get stocked up on some essentials.

Rachyrach1930 · 23/04/2020 13:14

Thank you all for the advice and comments. Hopefully fingers crossed life as we know it will get back to normal one day! Grin I managed to get my MATB1 from my midwife few weeks ago so my work are ok with dates etc... I'm still working from home which is positive as keeping my mind occupied. Feels like the longest pregnancy ever lol. Have got lots of the stuff already due to having a daughter aged 4 but will still be wanting to buy some new stuff when baby arrives... fingers crossed only a few more weeks 🤞 take care everyone x

Luna321 · 23/04/2020 16:08

I'm hoping to get my matb1 form at either my 25 or 28 week app. I haven't heard anything so assume they haven't been cancelled but we will see.
I'm working from home at the moment too. I work in a school so to socially distance from 31 children is near impossible. I'm really anxious about schools reopening and being put in the position where I have to decide whether to return or not. So that's the main reason I have been checking the news a fair bit. Have stopped watching the daily updates at 5pm tho they were getting on my nerves 🤣

Luna321 · 23/04/2020 16:09

I agree about this feeling like the longest pregnancy ever. It's dragging so badly 😩 and up to the lockdown it had gone so quick.

squashie34 · 23/04/2020 16:32

@Luna321 I'm also a teacher too and worried about this when the schools are told to go back! How can you explain to 4 year olds about staying 2m apart?! However I have a 12 week isolation letter from the go which takes me to mid June, and we finish at the beginning of July! Did they send you home before lockdown began? If so they might let you continue to work from home!

Oh and I love your username, it's what we are going to call our little girl.. Luna 😃

ChristinaTZ · 23/04/2020 19:36

Hi everyone! I'm also expecting my first baby girl and due in August.

These are really strange times and I'm feeling really nervous of all the different changes happening with the antenatal care over the last few weeks and what might be changing in the next few weeks.

My mum was suppose to come over and help as this is my first but with everything happening now, it looks like I might have to do it alone! Which makes me very scared of what to expect.

Also, reading this thread has also made me realise that I'm thoroughly unprepared for my baby's arrival as I haven't got anything yet!

I hope things get better over the next few weeks before our babies arrive!

Luna321 · 23/04/2020 19:37

@squashie34

Yeah I haven't been in since they announced that pregnant woman were part of the vulnerable group. I didn't get a letter- was yours unrelated to your pregnancy?
I teach a little bit older 8 yr olds but even still we're in such a small classroom. We have half our staff off due to under lying conditions or pregnancy so I'm not sure how they are going to pick who comes back and who doesn't. I've heard some people (not who i work with) are taking early maternity leave which really doesn't seem fair to me. I can see a lot of our parents unwilling to send their children back until they consider it safe so I highly doubt we will have full classes anyway.
It's the not knowing that worries me.

I haven't got too much to buy really as I've kept most things from my first but I managed to get a sleepyhead in really good condition today. Still would like to get an Elvie pump and a sling/carrier too but will save that for next month- trying to space out all these purchases!

squashie34 · 23/04/2020 20:46

@Luna321 well I have mild asthma but it's usually well controlled so I think it's having asthma and being pregnant together that makes me have the letter. Definitely wouldn't qualify without being pregnant. I know in the nhs there's something about ladies over 28 weeks pregnant not being able to be on the front line so may apply to teaching too which I imagine you will be by the time schools go back?

2020Aug · 23/04/2020 20:56

@Jj2431 I am getting a lot of rib pain, midwife thinks it is stretching as it feels muscular. My husband has been rubbing them which makes a big difference and eases them, and I can't sit in the same position too long.

@Nfblues I was thinking of getting some photos in the garden, it makes me sad I will barely have any pregnancy photos.

I've got a window to the womb near me but they have stopped all 4D scans unfortunately, they are only doing one type of scan they are calling something like a fetal check.

2020Aug · 23/04/2020 21:05

@squashie34 I have ashtma but was told it was to do with the strength of your inhalers as to whether you fall within the shielded group, mine is mild so I don't. Although two family members were sent letters then it was confirmed after it was an error!

I work in the civil service and they have said they doubt they will see me back in the office now before I go on mat leave, fortunately I can work at home easily. It will be a shame not being able to see my team before I go as they were so excited I was pregnant, but baby comes first.

Hayb24 · 23/04/2020 21:13

I'm due 5th Aug & having a little girl 💕

Having insomnia & rib pain at the mo but other than that everything is going great in the pregnancy. Lots of movement, especially early hours of the morning when I am trying to sleep 😂

I can't help but feel scared due to this pandemic, I left my house the other day for a little walk with my partner after being inside for 35 days. It's just such a scary time.
At my 20 week scan they told me I have a low lying placenta so will need another scan at 35 weeks to see if it has changed as if not I will need a c section so absolutely terrified if I need one (really don't like hospitals at the best of times let alone with everything going on and not having my partner there the majority of time as I will be in for longer).
My 25 week midwife appointment was supposed to be today but was changed to a quick telephone consultation which was weird but was fine.

Hope everyone is keeping well Smile

mable88 · 23/04/2020 21:15

@Luna321 @squashie34 Another preggo teacher here! I’ve been off since before schools were closed too, so didn’t get to say bye to my class - didn’t know at home time on what turned out to be my last day that I wouldn’t be in the day after. It’s so stressful isn’t it not knowing when school will reopen - if it isn’t until September then we’ll be on mat leave anyway but if they reopen before it will be awful as we probably still won’t be allowed in or at least shouldn't be going in. I’d be devastated to miss the end of the year with my class but equally baby has to come first and as you’ve already said, there’s no way to safely socially distance in school - my classroom certainly isn’t big enough to spread 30 kids out 2m apart!!

Luna321 · 23/04/2020 21:23

@squashie34 yeah you're right I think I probably will be 28 weeks by the time lockdown ends. Will just have to wait and see, there's no point worrying about it.

Luna321 · 23/04/2020 21:29

@mable88 Yeah I work part time so I was due to go in on the Wednesday after the announcement about adding pregnant ladies to the group. But got told the night before not to come in. My class didn't even know I was pregnant so I had to ask someone else to tell them that and also that I wouldn't be in. It's very hard, a part of me feels so guilty not being there to help out but then like you say you have to put yourself and the baby first. We have online learning set up so I'm
in regular contact with my class on there which is nice.

2020Aug · 23/04/2020 21:41

@Hayb24 my baby seems most active early hours too, think I got woken up by huge kick the other night 😂.

Hope the placanta moves up, fingers crossed for you. My daily walks keep me sane, I look forward to it all day!

Nellie3 · 23/04/2020 21:48

@Mabel88 and Luna, I am a teacher too, could have written your posts 😅 it's a horrible thought that we might not be able to 'finish' the year. I've been gutted that I couldn't explain to my class why I'm not there and didn't get to say bye to them. They also don't know I am pregnant, nor do the parents. I've been in contact online etc but its not the same 😣 xx
