How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

@2020Aug Omg is this the eventbrite one? I don't want to zoom 😭😭😭

Luna321 · 12/05/2020 15:56

Those online classes sound really good! We did the free ones first time and they were good but it was still awkward even then! Everyone was quite nervous, my husband and I are quite reserved and we were the most chatty I'd say! We didn't switch numbers, I really wish we had because a lot of us would have appreciated the support in the early days. It took me a while to get out and make proper mum friends. Funnily enough though I've bumped into most of them through local baby and toddler groups since and we're still in contact 2 years later.

Luna321 · 12/05/2020 16:07

@Beth804 I think if schools are not providing Ppe and not insisting on social distancing then you can really go in. I'm really laid back about getting ill but even now I'm being so cautious. At our school we're setting tasks on teams which is working really well, admittedly it works better for the older ones (I'm year 3) but our whole school is using it y1-yr6 and everyone seems happy. We are not doing live lessons thankfully as I wouldn't be able to with my 3yr old about and would even find it stressful to record stuff everyday and upload. I think unions are advising against that too. I'm not returning till after my maternity leave now which is on one hand really sad but on the other is a relief.

2020Aug · 12/05/2020 19:50

@Oldestchild90s no this was NCT. I have also signed up to the eventbrite one too.

StephD2020 · 12/05/2020 19:59

We start our bump and baby classes on 1 June so great to hear the positive feedback from you guys. We are really looking forward to them as I am a FTM and would really love to get to know some new mums in the local area, especially as we are moving at the same time.

Sorry to hear that for some of you the sickness has returned. I didnt suffer from any of that so thought I'd got away lightly. However this little lady seems to have other ideas. The main one being her trying to see just how hard she can kick me from the inside out! It's quite unbelievable (and sometimes borderline painful!). I'm 28+2 now so to be expected I suppose but I definitely think she's gonna be a tomboy rather than a little girly girl! Also starting to worry about just how big she is in there! 😱 x

Has anyone had round ligament pain or stretching pain that has been complete agony?! Just returned back from the hospital after they told me to go in for monitoring. I developed the worst pain on my right hand side about 4pm and I couldn't even catch my breath it hurt so much, couldn't walk without being hunched over and it was making me scream. The only thing that made it remotely better was lying on my left side. My partner phoned the hospital and they told me to go straight in so they could monitor and see if I was having contractions in early labour and could barely walk down the corridor. Anyway on the monitor for 20 minutes and she wouldn't stop wriggling (of course, when I'd been unsure of her movements!) but there were no uterine contractions except a couple that were small so were likely to be Braxton hicks. The pain was also constant and wasn't coming in waves like contractions. So the hospital said it's very likely to be round ligament stretching pain- but I thought that when you got this it was only for around a few minutes, but I had it for hours?!

This is also a sign I definitely need to pack my hospital bag this week, I was thinking god only knows what my partner will bring in if he has to pack it whilst I'm in hospital 🤣

Lolxx · 12/05/2020 21:07

@squashie34 I have had this quite regularly. I get it at my ab muscles & it’s as if they are being pulled apart (I struggle to get a full breath too) & the only thing that helps is lying in the fetal position or having a bath! I also woke up throughout the night with this stretching stitch like pain at each groin which was agony!

squashie34 · 12/05/2020 21:30

@Lolxx thanks for that, definitely going to try a bath next time! How long do your pains last, for a couple of hours sometimes? It's worried me about labour now and how low my pain threshold must be if I felt like I was in agony and it's just stretching pains! 😳 the woman in reception even said to me 'good luck' as I went in because I think she thought I was going in to have the baby because of the pain on my face and being doubled over! What is actual labour going to be like!! 😅 although the midwife did say to me that at least in labour there's gaps between contraction pain where as this was just constant!

Lolxx · 12/05/2020 21:37

@squashie34 the first time I got it I was only around 16 weeks & in work & had to phone the maternity unit & go over, I had it for a couple of hours though by the end it was more just when I moved rather than constant, they gave me paracetamol which did help too. I’ve been having it on & off for days, sometimes it lasts for up to 30 mins, other times it can be hours! It is so sore & uncomfortable but a bath & paracetamol did help & just trying to get into a comfortable position helped too.

squashie34 · 12/05/2020 21:50

@Lolxx you poor thing having this on and off every day, I really feel for you! Paracetamol on standby.

On the plus side, I've told my partner it's likely our longer walk today bought it on as it's over exerted me 🤭 so hopefully we can go back to our shorter waddle now without him trying to drag us further 🙄

Lolxx · 12/05/2020 22:09

@squashie34 I’m trying to look at it positively & say that at least my wee man is growing haha! Yeah that won’t be helping, I’d be using any excuse to get out of big long walks the now!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Oldestchild90s · 12/05/2020 22:26

@squashie34 @Lolxx i've been getting this pain too!!! Seems to be only when i'm laying in bed though and it gets so bad i need to turn over but the pain stays for a while afterwards! The pain starts at the bottom of the sternum then works its was around my ribs but it's honestly the worst i've felt so far 😭 i think i may try a hot water bottle on my side or a nice bath as the Paracetamol doesn't touch it?

Lolxx · 12/05/2020 22:33

@Oldestchild90s that sounds a bit like trapped wind as well, try having a cup of hot water - like boiled & cooled down, I add some honey & lemon for flavour & that really helps! The struggle of being pregnant is real, there’s so many aches & pains to worry us all!!

Beth804 · 13/05/2020 13:10

Hope you're feeling better girls, Ithat pain sounds horrendous! had quite bad round ligament pain early on but not had it for a while fingers crossed!

@Luna321 @squashie34 I bit the bullet and asked my head about going back to work - thankfully she was lovely and said she definitely wasn't expecting me back in. Phew!

StephD2020 · 13/05/2020 14:00

I can't remember who on here was moving pre lockdown but any of you now on the move since they released the restrictions?

We went and visited our new house this morning with the decorator - absolutely can't wait to get started and get in! 😁

JMill13 · 13/05/2020 15:14

Hey ladies! Just checking in as I've just had my 25 week appointment. Still nothing quite like hearing that little crazy heartbeat is there?

squashie34 · 13/05/2020 16:35

@Beth804 phew that's great news, at least you don't have to worry now! 😅 Our head asked us to send her our views about reopening for the risk assessment so I have emailed saying I'm not comfortable with going back and did she know of any updated guidance for pregnant women - I'm hoping she says not to come in but worst comes to worst I'll start maternity early! Our head believes it's a farce schools are going back anyway.

StephD2020 · 13/05/2020 18:35

Aw that's nice @JMill13 I've got my 28 week appt on Monday and will be my first midwife appt since week 16!

I just had a look on the RCOG website but they don't appear to have updated their guidance yet so looks like we'll have to wait for that. Here's hoping that those of you working in schools will be protected and at most will be allowed to just deal with the online stuff.

So here's something controversial.... I'm considering a home birth.... anyone else considering the same? X

JMill13 · 13/05/2020 19:17

@stephd2020 serious? That's a long time without an appointment, is that normal or just because of covid?

I keep thinking home birth, you know. Just because they've moved me hospitals and I don't like the new one, hoping things will change so I can swap back as it's still the staff from the original hospital that are seeing me at the minute. My friends cousin had a home birth a few years back and swore it was the best thing she did.

StephD2020 · 13/05/2020 19:34

@JMill13 yea serious! I have only seen my midwife once in my whole pregnancy. I got a random for my booking in appt, have had my 12 and 20 week scans and then met my midwife for the first time at 16 weeks. Got some other random midwife again on Monday (not my allocated one) so just feeling like I'm being pushed from pillar to post really. Hence considering booking a home birth with a private midwife.

It's a lot of money but starting to feel quite anxious now considering the lack of contact (and I'm 29 weeks this weekend) so at least if I pay to have two allocated midwives and a home birth I'm guaranteed to get them and they are also doing face to face appts too. I suppose the lack of continuity of care is down to covid but I do genuinely feel like I've been forgotten at the moment. 😞

JMill13 · 13/05/2020 20:41

@stephd2020 that's crazy that you've not been seen. In all honesty I couldn't actually tell who my midwife is. Each community appointment I've had so far I've seen 3 different midwives and obviously scan appointments you don't even really see a midwife so it's all up in the air here too.

Are they still doing home births in all this mess?

2020Aug · 13/05/2020 20:58

My hospital have now started doing home births again since last week. I'm not planning one, mainly because I'm quite a drive from the hospital and therefore worry if something went wrong I'm quite far away.
I take it as a good sign though they've started them again as clearly in my area midwife and ambulance availability have improved. It gives me hope things might be better in August!

squashie34 · 13/05/2020 21:01

That's great news that home births are starting to get up and running again for you ladies who want them! I went to the hospital today for bloods and all the different maternity departments are now back in their normal homes so it does seem that they're getting back to a bit more of normality.. fingers crossed this means birth partners there for the duration soon too! 🤞 and not a second peak 🙄

mable88 · 13/05/2020 21:03

That’s reassuring that some hospitals are allowing home births again, things are starting to shift then. Fingers crossed we don’t have a second peak and go back into lockdown... Confused

My achievement for today is finally capturing a kick from little madam on camera Grin took a fair few attempts, lots of deleted goes which was just me filming my stomach for no apparent reason!!

StephD2020 · 13/05/2020 21:08

@jmill13 I haven't been too bothered about it thus far as I've had a completely smooth sailing pregnancy so no need to see anyone to be fair. But now we are getting closer to 37 weeks I'm starting to think more about the birth and what it will be like. DH seems ok with me getting the low down on the homebirth so will see what info I can get over the next few days!

@2020Aug that's good news they are restarting near you - can I ask where you are based? It defo signals good things for availability for sure.

@squashie34 this news of normality makes me feel good! I so hope things return to more of a normal state byAugust!! X
