@Jaffas22 You can start having a look as early you want. It will help you to know exactly which brand, type and features you'd like. Make sure you read reviews by other mums on each one.

During my 1st pregnancy, I had already written a complete list of things we needed by just two days after my 12weeks scan. Lol. We were really excited. But we didn't rush to buy things though as we wanted to decide and make sure we really liked what before we bought them, also we were planning a house move then.

I had my baby's pram delivered by week 34 just in case. MiL threw a fit over bad luck having a pram in the house before first baby is born but seriously, you need them ready, and we lived 2 hours away from family then so we kept them at my parents inlaw's.

If you have room for things, and aren't superstisious. I don't see the problem with buying things early. If anything, it is handy to spread the cost!. Also means you can practice using them, setting up and folding away etc. Or you can buy just carseat before baby is born as you need that to come out of hospital & buy the pram after. Most companies can deliver in a couple of days, max a week or just go for a next day delivery.

I bought a complete travel system then which i'd recommend (Pram + Carseat+ Pushchair + Accessories).

roarfeckingroar · 19/04/2020 23:02

@ShoMo what a lovely sonographer! Congratulations on your baby, let's hope she/he remains chilled once born .

@EmmaA96 wow! Did you suspect at all? That's awesome!

I'm 15 weeks exactly today and feeling well but still pretty knackered and a bit dizzy today. I don't think I'm showing yet, just slightly bloated, and I really want to feel my baby or see her again! I'm tempted to book a private scan; there are loads still open around here (London) and I could find out the sex on the pretence that it's all so DP can see the babyGrinbut that sort of feels like cheating. My 20 week scan isn't for 5 weeks and 5 days it feels like an age.

UpsyDaisy1234 · 19/04/2020 23:28

@AventureAhead Glad to hear that your scan went well.

@1990shopefulftm It's totally alright to feel anxious be a scan or just about anything during pregnancy. I am nervous for my scan on tuesday too but like @Mc3209 said, it's natural. Crossing my fingers for us 🤞

@DressingGown87 That's such a beautiful view. Nice to get some fresh air.

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 08:53

@DressingGown87 thank you:) yes DH has been great with making sure I don't go hungry and am comfortable.
Yes prams are overwhelming, wish it was just picking a colour, would be so much easier.
@UpsyDaisy1234 thank you, hope yours goes well too. I ll let everyone know afterwards, at least it's in the morning so hopefully won't be in the waiting room long.

DressingGown87 · 20/04/2020 09:18

@1990shopefulftm I know picking a colour would be easy. I’m leaning towards a bugaboo, and having the carry cot for down stairs, visiting friends etc (as it will be nearly Christmas) and then a next to me upstairs. Which hopefully will be good for country walks too. Be so much easier just to speak to someone. Hope it’s quick tomorrow. You going Antental afterwards for your bloods?

@UpsyDaisy1234 I was amazed at coming across what must have been 60+ deers in a field! Love country walks.

@roarfeckingroar hey! How are you? You going to find out the gender, you got any idea? I have my next scan in 3 weeks and it feels ages away. But hopefully Time passes quickly.

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 09:31

@DressingGown87 yes they ve said to get bloods done afterwards but not where to get them done, I m sure they ll explain tommorow, I m fine with getting bloods done and normally let students do it if they ask.

Yeah, we know we d like a navy or black pram that's not too heavy and preferably under £400 but otherwise no idea and we re near a woods so we d like decent wheels on it.
I found similar things to nexttomes that are about £90 so thinking of getting one of those as they fold up which will be good for downstairs as well.

DressingGown87 · 20/04/2020 09:38

@1990shopefulftm Antenatal is on the left hand side as you walk in maternity, and ultrasound is just down the corridor from that.
The guild wheel is pretty flat, but the walks off that are quite a tough terrain. My sisters both said I could have their prams. But going off their lifestyle I think the wheels would just fall off 🙈 plus I have steps up to my house, which is going to be a nightmare. That’s a good price. I need one which is tall, as my bed is a high divan. Shame we have just lost mamas and papas and mothercare!

roarfeckingroar · 20/04/2020 09:41

Hey @DressingGown87 I'm keen to find out the sex, DP less so, and I can do so at a private clinic from next week so I'm a bit torn! How are you doing? Which scan do you have in three weeks?

Prams, why are there so many types of prams??!! Just why?! I want something lightweight so we can get out and about a lot, I walk everywhere in London with the odd train. Not sure where to start to be honest.

It's so exciting to think that this Christmas our babies will be here. I think we will host so both sides of the family can visit. DP has offered to cook everything but, erm, I will be heavily supervising and doing important bits like veg and gravy, hopefully with a decent glass of wine in hand.

WaveStreet · 20/04/2020 09:54

@DressingGown87 thats a lovely place to stumble across! Glad you are feeling up to walking again. In terms of prams I'm thinking similar set up to you, nexttome in the bedroom and daytime naps in the carrycot and wil look for one that's approved for overnight sleeping just in case. I also know i want something with the option of both parent facing and world facing pushchair so can adapt as they get older.

@1990shopefulftm @UpsyDaisy1234 im with you on the scan anxiety too, mines on Wednesday. Hope both of yours go well tomorrow.

@roarfeckingroar i feel like i will want to 'cheat' in a few weeks too so DH can see baby but i cant wait to find out the sex! You said she in your message - is that your gut feeling?

WaveStreet · 20/04/2020 09:57

@roarfeckingroar my DH wants to host Christmas too, no way! If he cooks we won't be eating til boxing day hes so slow in the kitchen! I don't think I could deal with the stress of it 🤣

Glooorb · 20/04/2020 10:32

@roarfeckingroar which are the private scan clinics that will allow partners to come into the scan? I'm in Surrey and the private clinics around here will not let my husband in (they say they just align with NHS guidelines) and so he had to miss out on the 12 week scan last week and he was gutted.

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 10:35

@DressingGown87 yes it is a shame, nearest shop with baby things is Bolton now I think which is a bit of a trek. Pretty certain we ll be getting the pram online.

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 10:37

@WaveStreet hope it goes well for you too :)

DressingGown87 · 20/04/2020 11:04

@roarfeckingroar I have a scan at 16weeks, I asked if they will tell me the gender and they said they would if they can see. I’ve got a gut feeling it’s a girl.

@wavestreet I know prams are a minefield, luckily I have a big car (unlucky when I can’t park it) 😂 so boot space isn’t an issue. I think I will visit friends houses a lot, none of which are in walking distance. So would like something I can use at peoples house for the baby to sleep in. I know I can’t believe we are dropping the C word in April this year, usually it would be banned until Atleast November 🙈 that’s funny about the hubby 😂

@1990shopefulftm I know it’s such a shame. I want to be able to push it I think. The last place I will be wanting to be going is Manchester!

@Glooorb Do you have a window to the womb clinic near you, my friend went there and she was allowed her DP with her

Freddie1987 · 20/04/2020 11:10

I feel like we're all in the same mindset at the moment, I've tried to start researching prams and get massively overwhelmed and switch off ConfusedFeel like it would be easier to be able to actually visit a shop, try some out and make a decision there and then rather than having to trust in your decision online! But maybe that's just my FTM indecisiveness. I've been checking out the Snuzpods for bedside cribs which seem pretty good, I guess something like that would be fine for the start then you can worry about a cot in a few months?! Or even a traditional Moses basket, there's some really beautiful ones out there and they're a lot cheaper than the bedside ones...but is the benefit of having the baby right by your side much better e.g nighttime feeds?

What's everyone's opinions on Sleepyheads for daytime naps? I've had a few friends swear by them but I've read they're not medically approved?

Lolllyf · 20/04/2020 11:17

@Glooorb Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street allows partner to come in. I was there this morning, had 12 week scan as part of Non invasive test (Harmony) that I had paid for and included 10 week and 12 week scan. I went to the nhs one too last week as wanted to make sure I didn’t get lost in system.

Very glad I went today, the scan was incredibly detailed and my partner could come with.
Maybe just phone around all places in London and see!

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 11:21

@Freddie1987 I think the lullaby trust say the sids risk is higher with sleepyheads and such.

roarfeckingroar · 20/04/2020 11:54

@WaveStreet I'm convinced it's a girl based on absolutely nothing but a very strong feeling! DP is a willing but not a skilled cook. I think I'll do the planning and the important bits that have to be right. After pregnancy and COVID I'm happy to just focus on wine .

@Glooorb yes I'm pretty sure partners are allowed but will double check. I'm not great at patience!

roarfeckingroar · 20/04/2020 11:55

@Lolllyf I went there for a private scan at 9 weeks and it was fabulous. Really clear picture, heard the heartbeat, we were sent lots of pictures and videos - just wonderful.

WaveStreet · 20/04/2020 12:26

@DressingGown87 space is one less thing to worry about then but doesn't help you narrow your search down! Can't wait until we can go out to a shop and have a browse though, I'm sure that'll rule some in or out straight away.

@Freddie1987 i thought i saw someone on another thread recently say they couldn't get any bedside cribs as their bed was too high. I might look at second hand as there are so many out there and all the fabrics can be washed and buy a new mattress, its only for the first six months or so. I dont think i will buy a sleepyhead as i know people have said their baby will only settle in it, which is fine while we can keep an eye during the day but i dont want to be desperate enough at night to want to use it.

@roarfeckingroar I'm sure your gut is a good indicator! I remember someones scan on here looking very girly to me, could well have been yours given you're a few weeks ahead of the rest of us. I think by christmas we will definitely be deservinga large wine and lots of people willing to take baby off our hands for a cuddle.

DressingGown87 · 20/04/2020 13:41

@Freddie1987 does seem like we are In the same mindset at the minute, with prams. But like you I want to visit a shop. I’ve look at the snuzpods, and next to mes too.

@WaveStreet I know I hope it’s around June, I’m worried about stock levels and lead times on things will be effected. I saw the thread about the bed height too, tried looking online this morning at some heights, to see if mine was suitable. It’s a high bed, it was good with step kids as the night time wandering, wasn’t able to jump in 😂

@Lolllyf congratulations on your scan!

Has anyone purchased any books yet? I had some in my amazon basket, which have vanished! Can’t remember what they are?

Flora20 · 20/04/2020 13:53

With prams I think if you can it's best to have a test drive in person - I know at the moment that's obviously not going to happen but hopefully before October?! I've pushed so many (friends, family) that look great but are horrible to push, some of them are seriously like tanks! We've got a 3 wheeler as it's more manoeuvrable, and cosatto because so many other brands are boring colours! I would recommend a sling though - we could have got by without our pram but not at all without our sling/carrier!

@Freddie1987 Go with the Lullaby Trust recommendations - the sleepyheads etc have clear links with SIDS and really shouldn't be sold.

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 13:58

@DressingGown87 I read the modern midwives guide to birth and pregnancy and beyond recently and it was great, was published this year so felt very up to date and was very informative. I got the Kindle version of it

roarfeckingroar · 20/04/2020 16:19

@WaveStreet I think it was me! Yes for Christmas I'll dress the baby up as a cute little pudding and pass her around family while I drink wine. I'm not really an alcoholic, but work today + months off... it would be lovely to get a day off!!

1990shopefulftm · 20/04/2020 17:02

anyone else think they're getting baby brain? My dyspraxia and dyslexia certainly feels harder to deal with recently, I'm doing a degree with OU and trying to finish the year off before I get into third trimester because I'm imagining I ll be pretty big and uncomfortable at that point but it's been a challenge.
