@FirstTimeBump I know it won't get used much, we're just hoping to get it sorted beforehand so then the money's spent and we don't need to worry about it.
A next to me is beyond our budget but I've found non branded options that are similar for £100 or less so I m considering getting one as there's not tonnes of space for a full-size cot to fit in our room. so you stopping using the Moses basket after a month?

I'm sure a racing car bed will make up for the eviction from the cot.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 12:57

@1990shopefulftm he would sleep in the Moses basket downstairs supervised but there's no way you could leave him unattended in it. I'd reccomend something like a next to me thought. Trying to fit my arm through the bars to the crib/cot was a pain and I wish I'd invested in one last time. The cotbed is absolutely huge and we have to move the whole room around so it can go partly in one of the alcoves which means I can't have a bed side table and it a pain to get out the bed too but it does the same job as a next to my type so I'm still to decide. We'll be on a budget this time, and I'll be going back to work at 3 months as I won't be entitled to maternity pay or allowance so we're living off savings for a few months so I should be thinking every penny counts.

DressingGown87 · 12/04/2020 13:20

@1990shopefulftm thank you! He’s coming out of ITCU hopefully today and off a ventilator so fingers crossed.

I’m looking at a next to me too. My bedroom is quite big, but my furniture is all fitted. So can’t move it round to accommodate. I’ve started an amazon list, purely out of boredom, and trying to spread the cost more. But don’t think I could commit to buying for a few weeks / months yet. Hope your going ok.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 13:27

@DressingGown87 hopefully that'll be him on the road to recovery and your announcement will be the first in a long line of positives for him x

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 13:30

@DressingGown87 that's a great step in the right direction.
That's a great idea, I think the Amazon babylist does a free gift for you if people buy bits of it. I ve been looking at this online4baby website, it's last year's stock so they don't do much stock of each thing but it's great bargains, I ve seen a nexttome alternative on it.
We moved in to our fixer upper a bit over 2 years ago, it's mostly done but we ve never bothered getting wardrobe's so we can easily do a rearrange if needs be.

I m good thank you, the joint and back pain is a bit frustrating at times but I m very grateful of how well the pregnancy is going. Spoke to my mum yesterday and she was very surprised at my lack of morning sickness as she had it bad with me and my half sister.

UpsyDaisy1234 · 12/04/2020 14:59

DressingGown87 I wish your dad a speedy recovery and him coming off the ventilator means he's on his way to recovery.

@1990shopefulftm With my first baby, i didnt start my shopping till after my 20weeks scan.

Moses baskets are cheaper than cribs but don't last very long, especially if you have a bigger baby (my dc1 seemed squashed in his, almost from birth). We bought a gorgeous moses basket for him which he was in for a grand total of, um, 1 week! He was so long and would hit the sides of the moses basket with his arms and wake himself up (he didn't like to be swaddled so couldn't tuck his arms into a blanket)

As we didn't have a big enough bedroom at the time for a cot bed, we bought a crib but he slept in it for only 6months approx.

With my dc2, we bought a second hand next to me crib ( and gave it a thorough clean), which we bought a new mattress for. She was in it for 4months and it turned out to be an invaluable piece of equipment for those daytime & night breastfeedings in the early days!

My sister moved her baby's cot bed into their big bedroom and took the side off it and had it up against the side of their bed. This worked ok for them, but I would absolutely recommend buying an actual co-sleeper crib if you can (sister were very skint at the time so couldn't afford another expense) as, even from a safety aspect, it would obviously be preferrable.

UpsyDaisy1234 · 12/04/2020 15:12

I forgot to mention that's recommended that babies should be next to you at night and in the same room for night time sleeps until 6 months as its thought to reduce SIDS as they hear you breathing and its supposed to help them regulate theirs.

I also forgot to mention that cot bed can be used from birth to 4years (as it converts into toddler bed). I moved both DS & DD to single beds as 4years. So its worth a buy if you have got the space.

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 15:22

@UpsyDaisy1234 I can find cheaper versions of the next to me that we can afford in the budget, one does fold up so there's potential to move it downstairs.

We are seeing how having one baby goes and I know we got very lucky conceiving in not much time but a second child is something we both hope to have in 2-3 years so we could go for a cot bed for the nursery but if we have another child we d be getting a toddler bed for the box room anyway.

Flora20 · 12/04/2020 17:42

It's been busy on here today! Hope everyone's had a lovely weekend.

I'd recommend just sidecarring the cot to the bed to be honest, it's perfectly safe as long as it's done securely (we used bungee tie things and strapped the frame of the cot to our bed). We had a moses basket that she never slept in so she ended up in our bed,l with a bed guard on until she was about a year old when we finally added the cot on. This time round I'll be doing it from birth, even if baby sleeps in my bed it will be so much easier having a bit more space! I'll have the basket downstairs.

LadyB90 · 12/04/2020 18:04

@FirstTimeBumps thanks for the info!

Hope everyone has had a lovely Easter weekend!

Just a random question, are we supposed to have a full bladder for the scan?

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 18:07

@LadyB yes. Drink a pint of water an hour before. Don't empty. Last time I was told two and was practically bursting and the sonographer told me next time not to "overdo" it 😑 at my six week scan this time I just kept drinking and driving and drinking and was able to go for a wee 15 minutes before and managed to refill back up 🤣 don't know how I'm managing it this time walking to the hospital with no loo to stop at on the way if things become desperate though😳

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 18:21

Drinking and drinking* definitely not drinking and driving pregnant or not 😶

Jaffas22 · 12/04/2020 18:56

Cannot stop crying with relief. Baby is safe and looking healthy ❤️❤️

@Jaffas22 lovely news xx

DressingGown87 · 12/04/2020 22:34

@1990shopefulftm glad you feeling better, hopefully the back pain gets better and not worse as thing process. I’m kind of glad I’ve not had morning sickness too, although the lack of symptoms has drove my anxiety crazy at times.

@firsttimebumps @UpsyDaisy1234 thank you both.

@Jaffas22 lovely news, glad everything went ok.

Rach167 · 13/04/2020 03:09

Hello everyone mind if I join?
This is my first pregnancy, I’m due 29/10/20!
Congratulations to everyone on their pregnancy!

@Jaffas22 Congratulations ! this is really reassuring to me as I am currently going through a slightly similar situation, I’ve been experiencing cramping and bleeding red blood which started just when I wipe but now I have a pad on which is half full (sorry tmi). I have an appointment on Tuesday at the EPAU for a internal ultrasound which the thought of is scary to me but I’m just praying it can show me my baby is safe & healthy.

Jaffas22 · 13/04/2020 07:18

@Rach167 welcome! Your due date is day after me!

So sorry your going though this scary time too, it really is terrifying! I have everything crossed that things are okay and baby is healthy! Thinking of you tomorrow xx

FirstTimeBumps · 13/04/2020 07:37

@Rsch167 hoping everything is okay for you tomorrow x

Lolllyf · 13/04/2020 08:45

@Rach167 welcome! Hoping everything goes ok at your scan.
I don’t think they would need to do an internal scan at this stage, they usually only do that very early on when it’s hard to get images through your abdomen. Either way internal scan is not uncomfortable at all, I almost find the abdominal scan more uncomfortable because of the pushing on your bladder.

@Jaffas22 so glad everything was ok with your scan!

I have my 12 week scan on wed. I have not actually been asked to fill my bladder for any of my scans and it’s been fine!

DressingGown87 · 13/04/2020 08:51

@Rach167 welcome, and hope everything is ok tomorrow.

Ive been asked to empty mine at my last two scans, she said it was too full, and think she was scared I was going to wet myself when putting pressure on.
