@FirstTimeBumps I think having c section in my head as plan C so I m acknowledging it as a possibility is a great way to look at it thank you:)
I m not sure I would be that calm.
plan A for me is midwife unit with gas and air and maybe a water birth, I can't think straight at all on a low dose of codeine so want to avoid pethedine or morphine if I can.

I m married to an optimist, he's coped quite well in the past when I ve been in a lot of pain so I m hoping he ll be quite calm.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 08:16

@1990shopefulftm I actually found writing plans for all three outcomes worked well. Have a Google of gentle csection techniques. I asked for the curtain to be dropped when they yanked baby out. I wanted OH to announce if baby was a boy or a girl. I requested delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin and if it wasn't possible for me to do then OH to do it. I was too sickly and shaky off the anesthetic so my OH ended up with the baby up his top for the next 50 minutes 🤣

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 08:26

@FirstTimeBumps I m not sure about the curtain dropping part but I look it up :) I m set on delayed cord clamping for definite, DH isn't comfortable with cutting the cord himself which I understand, going to try to find him a baggy t-shirt for skin to skin so we can both do it if possible.
I don't think I could wait to find out if it was a boy or girl for that long, I m hoping to find out at the 20 week scan and come up with a clever idea of how to tell DH.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 08:29

@1990shopefulftm they don't drop it low enough so you can see your insides haha but just so you can see baby asap. I wanted to find out last time but OH didn't. He said find out and just don't tell me but I couldn't do it so went along with it. He wants to do same this time. I cant promise that at the 29 week scan if I'm by myself that I'm going to say no when they ask me if I want to find out. Will keep it an absolute secret though and not even tell him I found out

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 08:32

@FirstTimeBumps I know I d crack quite quickly and tell him what it was.

tryingtryinggone · 12/04/2020 09:05

@FirstTimeBumps sorry to jump on but can you be specific about the government advice that Norwich aren’t following? That’s where I am and as a first time mum I already have no idea what to expect so it’s good to be clued up on what I can (and can’t!) expect from the hospital 😊
I had my 12 week scan on Wednesday which given the circumstances all went well but still so nervous about the whole pregnancy

FirstSurprise001 · 12/04/2020 09:10

Hello ladies! New to Mumsnet but thought with it being my first I’d better subscribe to learn some new things and get over the lockdown blues with some baby talk!

Me and my partner are expecting our first, due 23/10. 12 week scan on Tuesday 14th and like many of you worrying as he’s not allowed in! How have you all found the sonographers at your 12 weeks so far? I’m hoping it all doesn’t feel rushed!

The baby was a complete surprise after being rushed to hospital when I collapsed at home with kidney pain. Turns out it was a nasty kidney infection with the added bonus of a 3 week baby in there! So you could say knowing for so long, getting to 12 weeks finally has been a killer 😂

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 09:15

@tryingtryinggone apologies. I've just rechecked the source before giving the wrong info. It was Northwick Park blocking all birth partner's where NHS have advised allowing women to keep at least one. Oxfordshire I believe are stopping the combined test using the nuchal measurements at the 12 week scan and I stead offering the quad test which doesn't give the same details as the one done at 12 weeks. Sorry x

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 09:17

@FirstSurprise001 hello! Congratulations on your suprise. I think a few have there scans this week. I've got mine Wednesday x

tryingtryinggone · 12/04/2020 09:18

@FirstTimeBumps pheeew! Haha 😊

tryingtryinggone · 12/04/2020 09:22

@FirstSurprise001 I had my scan on Wednesday. The sonographer was fantastic. As soon as I got in he said he understood that it was not ideal not having my partner there so they’ve relaxed their rules somewhat and I could take a couple of videos on my phone. They also removed the charge for pictures so they were free. Baby was being an absolute monkey and he was so patient getting me to move around, go to the toilet, trying different positions to get the information he needed so he was scanning for a whole half an hour which was amazing as I could see baby dancing away in there the whole time! Only downside was my stomach felt so bruised the next day! It was such a shame my husband couldn’t come but the most important thing is that our baby is healthy. I would have really struggled without him if it was bad news I think

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 09:32

@tryingtryinggone that sounds like a really good experience. Our trusts have out online they won't allow videos or video calling 😑

" We have received a number of enquirers from women asking if they can record their scans on a smart phone or arrange for a video call with their birth partner due to the restrictions in place not permitting them to attend in person.

We completely understand why this is important but unfortunately we can not give permission for this as we are required to follow the Society of Radiographers and British Medical Ultrasound Society Guidance which states;"

And then goes on to give reasoning including it being a medical scan, distracting the sonographer, confidentiality etc etc.

My OH is coming down to the hospital with me and taking our LB for a walk around the park whilst he waits. It's an early appointment so hopefully won't be waiting long. The bad news part worried me as well tbh.

LadyB90 · 12/04/2020 10:48

@FirstTimeBumps
I'm in Oxfordshire, I didn't realise it was only them not doing the nuchal measurements I thought it was everywhere so that's kind of annoying! They told me it was to make everything quicker. They also told me no recording allowed. It's all so confusing to me as a first timer! Hoping it will all become a bit clearer at my scan on Thursday.

Welcome @FirstSurprise001 and congratulations!

DressingGown87 · 12/04/2020 11:10

Happy EAster to everyone!! Atleast we can eat the eggs, without worrying too much about the waistline, although I’ve got one egg, which is probably the smallest egg ever 😂

@roarfeckingroar aww a little bump!

@Jaffas22 good luck for your scan today, let us know how it goes.

@1990shopefulftm you sound so prepared. Im hoping to ask my consultant at 16weeks for a bit of guidance. As I’m high risk, can I not do Midwife unit? Will I need a c-section to remove a cyst. I’ve also read on my hospital notes, that I’m high risk of premature birth. Which has freaked me out.

I’m also desperate to find out the sex.

@FirstSurprise001 Congratulations and welcome! We share a due date, and scan date, and a surprise baby. Hope your kidneys are better now. Don’t worry about feeling anxious, I’m the same.

@tryingtryinggone that’s sounds like an amazing scan experience, and that they where very sympathetic to the current circumstances.

How many of us have scans this week? I’m so confused with the days, I’m scared I’m going to forget what day it is..

tryingtryinggone · 12/04/2020 11:17

@FirstTimeBumps he did say he would tell me when I could start filming as he needed to concentrate first and do his bit and then he’d let me. In reality the baby was a monkey so after about 10 minutes he told me I might as well film now as he wasn’t getting anywhere! Haha

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 11:20

@DressingGown87 Since I've not seen anyone in person I was going to check later on exactly what the rules are for the midwife units, the last stats I can find only 18% of mums had babies there.

There's not much hospital info about the birth centre guidelines but as far as I understand you can't be there if you need some types of extra monitoring and it suggests it's possible if you had a "normal pregnancy" which doesn't really tell you much but unfortunately I think you have to be on the ward if you need a c section or induction.

There's a couple of episodes of the maternity ward with premature babies , one had a 25 week old baby in the NICU and it all worked out of them. High risk doesn't definitely mean it's going to happen but hopefully you can get plenty of info from your consultant.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 11:29

@LadyB90 there was another thread on the forums where someone is actually trying to swap hospitals due to it. The NHS said it should still go ahead unless they can give good reason why they shouldn't. Have you had your scan already? I know the other person has written to PALS to query it too

LadyB90 · 12/04/2020 11:33

@FirstTimeBumps
Oh really? That's a bit worrying! My scan is this week Thursday.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 11:33

Just found out my hospital aren't even allowing people to buy scan pics 😑

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 11:36

@LadyB90 get onto maternity action and enquire what your rights are and then call them and push for it. Have a look through the forums on here. The title of the thread is "anyone else been told you won't get nuchal scan/combined test"

roarfeckingroar · 12/04/2020 11:47

@FirstTimeBumps me too! I'm usually pretty small and slim so it's really obvious and it'll be quite a shock when we can emerge 😁

@FirstSurprise001 congrats! I really enjoyed my scan, the sonographer was brilliant. I had the usual nuchal tests, all fine thankfully. Best of luck on Tuesday.

DressingGown87 · 12/04/2020 12:08

@1990shopefulftm I’m going to catch up on that program when I’ve had my scan. I know one of the midwives at RPH, she saw me at the hospital and said to ring her if I needed anything. I’m hoping they can make it as straight forward as possible. It’s just on my private notes, saying something about high risk of premature labour due to a abnormalities with the cervix.

My twin (Ex) step children, where born at 26weeks. And they where fine, apart from a few development issues, and minor health problems. Suppose it’s just going to be a huge unknown for now.

Hoping my scan is ok on Tuesday, then I can tell my dad. He’s currently in hospital with COVID.

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 12:19

@DressingGown87 Might be worth giving the midwife a call after the bank holiday weekend, if they're written it as a risk then they should at least be able to tell you how they'd manage that.

I'm trying to see things as that baby might have a condition even if they are born exactly on their due date and will deal with it when it happens. I've no clue if my dyspraxia and dyslexia are due to me being a couple of weeks early as it could also be genetic and i do sometimes worry about baby getting them and asthma from us but having lived with them, i m in a good situation to know how to help them.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, i m sure telling him will be really good news for him to hear.

1990shopefulftm · 12/04/2020 12:22

Originally I wanted to wait until after 20 weeks to start buying things for baby but if the lockdown carries on a while longer, it's tempting to be getting things after 12 weeks to keep occupied.

The room that we're using for the nursery could do with plastering but i could find somewhere to put bits that aren't furniture before that's sorted. I'm thinking starting a bit earlier could save money on bits.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 12:32

@1990shopefulftm you won't use it for the first six months (the nursery) so don't stress but if you've got time to burn go for it. We used the cot as a storage space for clean clothes that never ever got put away. I'm waiting on the arrival of a red racing car bed for #1 so.i can evict him from the cot. We had a Moses basket and swimming crib last time in our room but he had to be in the Moses basket (intended for the living room) for the first four weeks because his little legs kept falling to the side and sticking out the bars because he was breech. Then when they finally came down and he went into his swinging crib it lasted all for 4/6 weeks before he started rolling and we had to put him in the cotbed. I was going to order a next to me but half tempted to save my money and just side car the cotbed to put bed from day one.
